I know there was a reported issue last week with gmail that was a back end issue and since been resolved (I thought?), but on my ATP, very frequently now when I open gmail, it will dump back out to the home launcher on its own after a few seconds. No FC that I can tell.
And it seems like if I open it back up and try to select a message when this happens, it will happen every time unless I open up recent tasks and swipe away gmail. But it crops back up shortly, so it's getting very frustrating. Anyone else seeing this or know what to do?
Thanks.

Yeah I'm having the same issue and not just gmail. Hopefully they'll issue a fix

hi all I am posting this as an "official" question in this section because it's a known issue and it's not been resolved. this issue was briefly (and by that I mean "very few replies") discussed in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1055407
I am wondering if anyone has come up with a solution or some more hints.
to sum things up:
- in a threaded sms conversation, upon sending AND receiving a message the small contact pictures (both yours and your interlocutors') flash one time (like if they were reloading: you can briefly see the grey android default "no picture" icon meanwhile). this didnt happen on elder builds, and when it happens the phone lags.
- it can happen from time to time that after this strange reloading the pictures won't load anymore and immediately after this, the app will loose sync with contact names too: you'll end with phone numbers anymore like if you had an empty phonebook.
I have found the culprit to be not the messaging app but the contacts app. when this happen, i "just" need to go back to home and tap the contacts app. sometimes it just displays a black screen, sometimes i get a FC message about com.android.process.acore. after pressing the FC button the app will restart and both contacts and messaging will return working normally (although still with the weird reloading thingy).
as far as things go it seems that
- hard resetting / wiping data does not help
- removing and re-adding the google account sync does not help
- it happens on 354 too
- not all users (very few, it seems) are affected by this
- there is no weird backup & restore voodoo procedure implied in the affected streaks
the small amount of users affected by this issue leads me to think we are, in some way, doing something wrong. any help would be greatly appreciated really. thanks in advance folks.

I've the same prob. i was thinking it maybe from my rom (simple streak 1.2) but looks like its not.
yeah it seems to be an issue related to android 2.2.2 (I didn't have this problem on stock 318 rom). I have done some more tries yesterday but I didn't come up with a solution. I even tried to desync google account, remove all contacts etc, and create a new test contact with random picture, well as soon as I insert the picture the problem reappears.
I forgot to mention it in the op but go sms pro seems unaffected.
Contacts app in StreakDroid 1.9.1 does this as well.
I'm going to try and roll back contacts.apk, contactsprovider.apk and mms.apk from stock 318. I have checked the filesizes and they actually are slightly different.
well tbh I am 99.9% confident I will end up having to reflash my phone but oh well..
i'll report back!
EDIT: so here's the news. replacing apps didnt work. ROM 360 is still affected by the issue.
back to the drawing board...
I read through and I couldn't find any thread posted about this but hopefully someone knows how to fix this...
My TP is barely a week old, and it's force closing the browser at least several times a day. Is anyone else having this problem/anyone found a fix?
Ya. Glad you mentioned this. I have been trying to find a post about this.
Also my browser fails to sync.
here's hoping whatever OTA update asus is working on will address this.. since i guess not too many others are experiencing this problem

I disagree. I think MANY people are experiencing this, but just "living with it" in terms of synching, that the other post complained of, you need to:
If you're getting the exclamation mark do the following. Untick Browser Sync on your GN and close the browser.
Go to Google Dashboard (google.com/dashboard)
Scroll down to Chrome and 'Stop sync and delete Data'. Fresh the window after a few minutes to make sure it says there is not data/empty.
Go to Chrome and login for sync. Wait a few minutes then go back to Google Dashboard. See if the sync got picked up.
If so, go back to Browser Sync and tick the box. Open op the browser app and there should be a pop up that shows your Gmail account is logging in/syncing and the folders should appear slowly.
Hello,
Is anyone else having issues with Gmail crashing?
I can get it to crash by looking at "all mail" and then scrolling down.
On my galaxy nexus this scrolling goes back to the server and loads more messages. On my prime it just crashes and goes completely black or crashes to the home screen. I have to then force stop Gmail in order to get it to load again.
I'm having the exact same problem with my prime. I'm guessing it had to do with some other app that is running because if i restart my prime, it doesn't happen again for a while. I've searched and haven't found any others having this problem though.
I also experience some "back to homescreen" while messing in Gmail. I just cleared the data/cache to see if it will help.
I am having these troubles, too. Have anybodies problems been solved (perhaps with the new Firmwares that were put out by Asus - I am still on 9.4.2.11 as I am based in Austria) ?
The .15 update has made it so that I do not crash any longer while scrolling.
Although, sometimes when I scroll down it just sits there....loading conversations....
I still experience gmail crash... I run WW .14. I hope .15 will fix it when it will be available.
Mine crashes as well on the lastest OTA firmware. I don't think I even need to scroll to crash to homescreen. I think it does it even when I just click on an email occasionally.
Gmail crashes soooo often for me. It's driving me batty. Any ideas on how to fix it yet?

Have you cleared the cache and data?

In the few cases I've seen mentioned, whether that even helps temporarily is debatable. In my case it didn't help at all, so I just set up the "EMail" app to get my GMail instead of the GMail app.
yes i have tried that mltiple times, removed the gmail widget since i saw some mention that it could be causing the problems. no luck. removed other widgets one at a time as well. removing beautiful widgets seems to help with the home screen "crash" I was experiencing a lot, but does nothing to fix gmail
I guess I'll have to set up another email app or use a browser, but damn! neither are great fixes (
I just started using the ASUS Email app. That seems to work fine, including the widgets.
This is BS
Come on, Asus, this is Gmail, not some goofy homegrown app or a game or something. And this has been going on for a while. It is not something that just started. I swear Asus has their priorities up their ass sometimes.
I have the same problem ever since the last OTA update. The gmail app is virtually unusable, also get a similar problem with Maps crashing out when searching for places but I guess that's for a different thread.
Tried many things one of which, removing the Beautiful Widgets home screen weather/clock widget, solved a different problem where all the icons would disappear from the home screens.
It's a real shame 'cos I've had none of the hardware problems other people have had, but the flaky apps/browser/ICS are really making this tablet very difficult to use as an everyday device. Maybe it's time to unlock and try Virtuous ROM.
Maybe it's related to this:
http://www.androidcentral.com/google-acknowledges-gmail-app-may-be-flickering-says-fix-way
Acer Iconia A500 -- received stock ICS update a week ago and since then Gmail app has been playing up like all of you guys -- random crashes, flickering, freezes etc.
Very frustrating because that's the most used app on my tab. Now I have to revert to using native email app which kinda suck.
I have used handscent sms and quikpic for over a year now on previous phones without issue. However now on my GS3, I have gotten random pictures that will not load. The preview picture is in the handscent window, but when pressed they say "load failed". If I save the file to my sd card and then open it in quikpic it will open without issue. Anyone else had anything like this happen? Any fixes? Doesn't happen every time but it sure is annoying.
Happens every time with GO SMS here. Gallery opens them up fine for the time being.
So I emailed the people at Quickpic and they looked at my logs and determined the issue was with a security bug in handcent. I sent that information over to handcent. they emailed me back and said they had an update coming in the next day that should fix the problem.

Go SMS hasn't been updated in over a month and just went on their site to look for any updates. A few SGS3 users on their report issues like this and LED. Hopefully theirs a new one coming out soon, it used to be once a week.
well sounds like handcent will be working this out soon. so you may want to switch over.
Curious is anyone else having issues with their Google Chrome Browser? I have reset my phone multiple times and it is still happening, so not sure if it is a device issue or Software.
When I open up Google Chrome the first time it will go to the Home Page. Then if I do something else like send a text message or view email, then come back to Google and open it by tapping the Google Icon, the screen will go black and you can see the Web Browser URL. If I hit refresh or tap multiple times in the middle of the screen then the Google web browser will show up again.
I have closed out of all my other applications thinking it was memory, be even after doing this it still does the same thing. When I go back to see what apps are open, nothing is there other than the Chrome browser. I have done a rest multiple times by pushing the small button next to the SIM Card and even done two Master Resets and the issue still occurs.
Do I consider my phone faulty due to this? It is sort of annoying, because this seems to have just started happening.

Don't worry, there's a deadly bug in new Chrome 32.0.1799.99 build.
In this case it doesn't help to delete cache, dalvik, data, mine was force-closing multiple times.
Just downgrade to 31.0.1650.59 and everything will be O.K.

You'll have to dig one up by googling, or you can install Chrome Beta and see if it's fixed.
