Gang,
I seem to have an issue going between ROMs, and getting different results from GPS sources when connected to my home router's WIFI... on 3G, locations work perfectly, shows right where I am on maps, Facebook, etc... but when I re-enable WIFI, it re-locks me in at my former address roughly 30 miles away, right to the location in the home where I kept the phone - ONLY when I force Beautiful Widgets to "GPS Mode" will it properly see where I am, but the other apps like maps and Facebook still show my previous location - we've pinpointed this down to a router issue, as two different phones on different ROMs using the SAME wireless router produced the SAME result - 30 miles away - but some ROMs act completely normal... coming from a bone stock I777 Galaxy S2 AT&T which worked normally to the Phone Bricker ROM. On Phone Bricker, it WILL NOT show the proper location.... my friend has a AT&T Infuse running Zeus ROM, build 6 shows the same incorrect result on WIFI, but turn WIFI off using 3G locations work normally... I'm completely mystified...
I've also got a Kindle Fire that's been rooted running CM7 that connects to the SAME WIFI router - but shows the PROPER location!???!?!?!!?? Uhhh... help?!
Edit: the title should have mentioned ANYTHING GPS-related - not just Beautiful Widgets - all shows the wrong location from my phone with a custom ROM using WIFI; the stock ROM using WIFI was fine... ?!?!?

Has anyone else had issues with your tab finding your location via wifi? It finds it on some networks (like my home and a hotel I was in a week ago), but unable on others (mainly at my workplace and my in-laws house). I didn't notice it until I flashed new TW roms. Google maps says location unavailable, Beautiful Widgets stays on last known location, etc.
Could this be a wifi network issue or a tab issue?
Edit: I flashed back to my original stock backup and I still couldn't get a location. I;m at work, where is hasnt been able to find my location.

Most likely your work's wifi network is far enough from the street that it isn't in Google's database.
Same for the inlaws. In their case - is there Street View coverage in their area? If not, it's far less likely that wifi APs in that area will be in Google's database, as the Street View trucks are the main way they build the DB.
Ah. That makes sense as both are rural and my home is not. I didn't realize that was google's work. Figured the location was through the isp or something.
So I've got my Ray for a few months now, but ever since I have problems with the WIFI and GPS connections.
GPS:
I used to use Navigon on my Acer Liquid, but that app doesn't work anymore unless there's an active data connection and I don't have a data plan. Now I use CoPilot Live Premium 8.xxxx. App itself works well, but the GPS signal get's lost every few minutes and I have the feeling this is getting worse. Especially in cities it's posible I have to wait for like 15 minutes to have a signal and after that the signal gets lost every 2 minutes or so. Is this just due to a poor GPS receiver in the Ray or what?
WIFI:
I can connect to my router (WPA2-Personal AES) but only for 2 minutes. After that, the icon in the status bar shows that my Ray is still connected to the router, but there is no internet connection anymore, eg in the market pages keep on loading most of the times without saying the connection is lost or so and I have to turn off WIFI and turn it on again after a minute to have it working again for 2 minutes -_- If I do this a lot, it even kicks my computers of my network and I have to reboot my router
I hear there a quite a few problems with the WIFI in kernel related situations and it's often solved by using a custom ROM, but I would like to stay on stock ROM.
What could be causing this? The router, the WIFI security...? I didn't have the chance to test it on another router, maybe tomorrow.
Any help would be appreciated!
For the wifi, if you could test it on another network, we could know if the problem comes from your phone.
For the GPS, if your phone is rooted, I suggest you this application, with every Android phone I have I use it, and I have a some-seconds signal acquisition. It may fix your problem, but I don't understand its origin.

Thanks for the app tip, I will try it!
Try sygic for navigation. It's free and for now it worked with no problems for me.
I have some problems with wifi too. At home i can connect to the router freely, when using my laptop as router it shuts the laptop down, at friends it restarts his router it almost looks like Ray is to aggressive when connecting.
I looked into the problem again today and finally, I got it working.
The things I did:
1) Router firmware update (Dlink DIR-615)
2) Removed Ray's DHCP settings from the router and added them back manually so it never expires.
(Up till this point I still had the same issues.)
3) Changed the WIFI mode from N and G mixed to N only
=> PROBLEM FIXED
There seem to be a lot Xperia users (especially Arc) with my kind of WIFI problems. This thread was very helpful:

I opened this before the help thread existed and just wanted to share my solution
I don't have GPS problem as it connects within 1 min without AGPS support...
But i do face wifi problem especially when downloading larger files >100mb.. It constantly gets disconnected...
The wifi disconnection is genuinely present when i am downloading torrent files... It just kills the connection then connects again... I literally can't download any torrent files especially larger ones like movies etc...didn't have this issue when i had HTC sensation...

I suggest trying what I did, or reading the thread I linked for other suggestions
Btw, Sygic (GPS app) is only free for 30 days.
Hi, I have problem with Wifi too, but another one. Now, I have this custom rom - CM9 FXP 119 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285977
But wifi isnt working - I can see wifi to connect, but when I hit connect, nothing happens. I have this problem in many custm roms (Jj's, MIUI). I really dont know what to do.. I tried reflash rom, reflash kernel, but nothing helps. Please, help me
I have same problem with wifi. It's connect tot wifi network and in a few seconds iti disappear de wifi and unable to autentifications to wifi. I have RayOniumICS.v5 Rev1 rom and Aire kernel.
So I picked up a Prime today (running 4.0.3), and I'm having a weird issue... I can connect just fine to wifi, everything works properly, except two things:
- My wifi icon is gray. Always. Regardless of where I am, the network I'm connected to, etc.
- Talk doesn't connect. The error is "Connection interrupted -- status updates temporarily unavailable"
I have cleared Market and Talk data. I have removed and re-added my Google account. I don't have PDANet or any other tethering software. I've checked my wifi connection to make sure there is no proxy or anything. My speed is just fine! I've disabled/reenabled Background Sync. Syncs on the Google account work just fine.
I'm at a loss here... HALP?
I'm having this problem too.. did you ever find a solution? anybody else?
Mine does that when Im too far away from the router but it goes blue when i get closer.

I ended up turning off wifi, deleting the files in /system/etc/wifi, and rebooting. Had to re setup my wifi connections, but somehow in restoring a backup (or the ICS upgrade) the saved profiles must have gotten corrupted...

I'm having a similar problem. My icon starts out blue and everything works fine, but then after letting it sit for a while, my icon turns greay. Have not been able to figure it out yet. Pretty frustrating to set your tablet down and 15 minutes later have it stop getting notifications because it's disconnected itself or whatever it is when the icon turns grey.
I have my wifi settings set to always remain on while sleeping.

I tried but didn't work. I think we had different issues. It didn't sound like you could get a connection at all, while I get a connection that goes bad after the tablet has been idle for a while. Turning off/on wifi allows me to reconnect.
My android devices do this typically due to the firewall settings on whatever I am connected to, my wireless at work or example.
TF201 | XDA Premium
That is my assumption as well. I have the same issue but i figured it out. Its all you r wireless settings on the router. I have changed the broadcasting channel and since no more gray antennas. Its all i guess channel interference.

Yeah, different issue. I actually had no problems ever connecting, it just wouldn't sync properly with Google's servers...

I've had that happen before, but in this case it was a constant 100% of the time thing, regardless of firewalls/connection/etc. Just something weird with the wifi profile on the device. I'm more convinced it had to do with restoring HC data after being upgraded to ICS.

I always wondered why my cell phone did the same thing, and in my searches, gray just means that it's not connected to Google's sync service. Now, while I agree with that to an extent.... I too have noticed on my cell phone and Prime (when tethered to my cell), that if either end is gray, I have non-functioning internet. This even happens if I have full bars and HSPA for my data connection. I personally have never noticed this on any of the 3 wireless home routers that I've connected to, however.

Same experience here. Grey typically means you have internet but no google services, but on my prime grey means no internet at all.
I've managed to get my wifi connection stable by using an app in the market called Wifi Keep Alive. I'm not sure if this app has any impact on battery draw in sleep mode, but I didn't notice much of a change after installing it. I left my Prime on all night last night which has always caused the grey icon, but my icon was still blue this morning and internet was functioning
So I was trying to browse internet at a McD restaurant the other day and couldn't get my prime to redirect to McD splashscreen. Tried various browsers......opera, dolphin, stock, chrome and none of them would redirect. Used wifi tool and confirmed an ip address had been issued but the wifi fan would just stay grey. Dhcp settings checked, must admit I haven't tried another mcD location but just wanted to confirm whether others in Oz are able to bring up the sign in splashscreen with their primes running latest stock ICS.
Two Thoughts....If the McD's router is using the AD-HOC mode, you need the fix that's shown in the forum (or wait for update 19/20 - it's supposed to be in there)
2nd, At times, the only way I can get my Prime to work with Wifi is to reboot the router....Wifi Analyzer shows the signal there, but even shutting the Prime down, and restarting, wont work.....then I reboot the router and everything is fine.
I have no idea of what modes the Free Wifi Hotspots use
Thanks, now that you mention it I did already change the wpa_supplicant file some months ago as mentioned in this forum, I wonder if thats what is causing connex issues with mcD`s. Will try with original nxt time.
Hi,
I had no problem whatsoever with my network since 2 days ago when I flashed my dlink dir-300 with dd-wrt.
Since then, I started having problems using my banking app (it gets stuck sometimes during account data retrieval) and more consistently the XDA app fails to retrieve data most of the times.
The rest seems to be ok (on browsers I did not notice connection problems), even though the wifi signal (icon) appears to be quite low even when I am a few meters from the router, while all my other devices (laptop, iphone, blackberry) are working fine.
So, I would need some help to troubleshoot the problem, for example how to check where it gets stuck in the XDA app could help to understand where the problem happens.
I think I set the router with the same values it had before, and I had more trouble with previous FW, so I won't go back there, but I could still try to change some setting if there is some "known" wifi issue with Android devices.
I have a Nexus S with Cybergr v11 ROM and Matrix v19.5 kernel. I repeat, now all other devices are working fine, and this phone was working fine until I flashed the router, so it must be most likely a bad combination of wifi settings (I tried a lot of them already) and Android.
