[Q]A few questions about flashing my HTC Flyer - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Hi everyone,
Just picked up a US Wifi HTC Flyer (Best buy version, not sure if there are any others. I've looked around the forums and have come up with a few questions I hope you experts can help me with..
1) From what I see, EVO View and Flyer roms are not interchangeable. I also see some roms for Flyer that say 3G/WIFI and some that just say WIFI. Since I have the wifi model, does that mean I can use either one and it will be fine? Or I have to stick to the ones made specifically for wifi?
2) I looked at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194709
My hboot does not match those on the guide (previous owner must have done an OTA upgrade). I looked at post #2 of that thread but there are no hboot #s for the wifi model. What can I do about this? Do I go ahead and follow the guide? Do I have to downgrade?
3) If I have to downgrade (looked at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428104), how do I know which RUU file to download?
I appreciate your time and I hope someone can help me. Thank you in advance!

View and flyer are not interchangeable. You can flash all flyer roms WiFi and 3g as long as it is same version meaning gingerbread or honeycomb. What is your current hboot version, are you running honeycomb? I have the best buy gb ruu on my drop box, if you want I will post link.

I downloaded this RUU
http://www.filefactory.com/file/c0a...9BU_3809.05.04.10_M_release_191425_signed.exe
The tablet's on 3.2.1.. that's Honeycomb correct?
The hboot version is 1.11.0011.

Correct gb ruu and the downgrade link you posted was correct procedure
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using xda premium

How about the regular S-OFF guide? Do I follow it even though my hboot doesn't match it?

When you follow the downgrade proceedure and run the ruu you hboot will change. The gb hboot is listed and will be compatible
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using xda premium

Ah, understood. I will try it. Thanks for the help!

I followed the guide completely but when I ran the RUU file, my flyer is stuck on HTC (black with grey letters) screen. It's been about twenty minutes now. Is this normal?

Sorry I missed your comment. Did this square itself off for you? My crap laptop takes forever when I try to run a ruu exe
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using xda premium

Yeah it worked after I did a factory reset on the tablet and tried again. I was following this guide though (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358758) and when I tried to use the big file update, it was sitting for about an hour and no change. Same for when I tried to fastboot the "light" file. My hboot wouldn't look for the PG41IMG zip file either. Is something wrong? When I had an android phone, it would always automatically start looking for a PG/PD file when I was in hboot. I put it in the root of my SD card and the flyer doesn't try to look for it at all.

put it on external sd

Yeah, I literally pulled my micro SD out of the tablet and put it into the root of that SD manually.

[Q] Help with relocked flyer - security warning when trying to downgrade to GB

Hi,
I'm not very savvy with these things but carefully worked through Paul's original upgrade to HC successfully. I now want to downgrade to GB to install globatron's HC, but despite reading everything multiple times and thinking I was clear, something has gone wrong. I had just reached the first stage ready to flash the RUU and I have got a relocked - security warning message. I'd charged my flyer fully before starting this, but now the flyer won't turn off or charge, and it's nearly out of battery. I've searched the forums and tried everything I could find but it's still like this, and now it's started turning itself on and off to the bootloader again and again.
One post said I need the unlock.bin but I don't know what that is or where to find it. If anyone has any ideas I'd really, really appreciate the help.
since posting I've found the unlock.bin and can activate it through adb, but I'm not getting enough time before the flyer powers off again to follow it through - get the padlock screen, can't get further.
So all you did was re lock? If so hold volume down and power till in hboot. Then sellect fastboot then power off and charge your device for a while.
The unlock.bin is what you used originally to unlock bootloader from HTC dev.
Once you are good and charged you can run the ruu to return to gingerbread.

Thank you. Because I've now slightly lost my nerve...to recap, I have downloaded the GB RUU - can I just run this from my desktop, then use revolutionary to get s-off, then follow guide to upgrade to honeycomb as per globatron's instructions?
Yes, get into fastboot and run ruu. If you run into an error that says main version is older you may have a couple additional steps.
What version flyer are you?

[Q] [ask]flyer just wont boot after flashing

hey,i actually want to post this question on lee droid thread but im unable to reply in the thread so i post it here. i just bouht a used flyer its been rooted an used leedroid GB.since i want to use HC i just use the information on leedroid thread in xda to update it.i loaded the 534 mb rom to sdcard, put it in the recovery, backup it and install zip from sd card.but after 2 hours it wont boot after its succes to install.icant restore and stuck in recovery.im still able to charge though, what to do?
If you are asking why you could not flash Rom directly over gb ROM, it is because of different hboot. Does not matter how long you wait for it to boot. Flash gb version of Lee droid then read threads in development for obtaining soff hc
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using xda premium
could you explain what soff hc is?
Missed the part that implied you purchased the flyer pre rooted
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19607802
Read, read, read
Oh and hold volume down and power till you boot into hboot. Select fast boot and power off, then charge. Don't try anything crazy if you are not sure how much battery life you have left

so if im correct this is the solution?
Instructions Part 2
The large download is a stock HoneyComb 3.55.405.1 for 3G and 3.55.1114.31 for WIFI with the following changes:
Rooted
Busybox
Secure flag turned off on the boot image
Stock recovery replaced by CWM
Beginner procedure: If you are a novice using windows
Download the appropriate RUU file:
Code:
3G RUU_3G_B09.zip
after this i would be able to install any hc costum rom,am i correct?
Correct. Since you should already be s off gingerbread, because you are running leedroid so I would assume, you can use that method then try hc roms
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using xda premium
thanks,so i dont need to flash the leedroid gb rom and go straight to stock HoneyComb 3.55.405.1 for 3G.then after that i could go to leedroid hc.will try this and thanks for helping me
Provided your battery has ample charge, yes
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using xda premium
thank you very much.i'll try it after charging my flyer.will update the news in this thread.hope you dont get bored with my noob question haha
No worries

ok,i did and its booted up into leedroid hc 4.0 using this methode.
If you intend to immediately install a custom HC ROM:
3G-Wifi: f1a04839f7b187887c77b4ab552cc2fb HC-3G-light.zip
Wifi only: 3c3cf126250ba5c9d996262acc334942 PG41IMG-WIFI-light-B10.zip
Install the custom RUU
the i using this one:
Method 2: Using bootloader - NOTE I strongly recommend using method 1.
Rename the downloaded file PG41IMG.zip
Transfer the file to the root of your SD card
Reboot to hboot, which will detect and install the update.
Note it will require two passes to complete the upgrade due to hboot change
If you used the full upgrade file (BIG download) you are finished, enjoy.
If you used the light image now restore your nandroid backup or flash your custom ROM now - then you are finished.
thank you man

Stuck in bootloop on Flyer - globatron help

Since I can't post in threads in the development forum yet I thought this may be the best place to try to get help. So here goes.
I downgraded my Flyer to GB via globatrons No HTC Unlock method successfully. I then ran revolutionary successfully to get S-Off and ignored the CWM install like noted in the S-Off HC thread. I then ran through the S-Off HC upgrade with the custom rom with the intent of flashing gumby63's Desensified rom. I flashed the custom RUU and it failed with the error 90 the first time and then the second time it worked like noted. when I rebooted it got stuck in a bootloop. I can access recovery and I currently have it turned off.
What would be the next step?
I have the desensified rom on the sd card already.
If it is of any importance the hboot is: 6.11.1111
Best Buy wifi flyer
Thank you
Flash the rom

*need assistance*

Peace ALL,
Hopefully the development in this forum is not dead. I have a problem: My View will not boot-->it gets to the white HTC screen, then will shut off then go back to the white HTC screen. Ive contacted HTC, which will do a repair, but this will be the 2nd time I have sent it to HTC (of no fault of my own---meaning I didnt incorrectly try to root or apply a mod)
BACKGROUND
I bought my View off Amazon (Big mistake, I know). It originally had a charging problem so I sent it to HTC and they fixed it. When they sent it back they put HC on it---> which I didnt like. So I unlocked the bootloader thru HTC's website and followed Globatron's method of down-grading to GB. It worked and everything was fine. That was 3 months ago and I use my View everyday--mostly as an E-reader. Flash forward to 2 days ago. All of a sudden after downloading TubeMate & IceFilms on my View it started acting crazy. So I rebooted it--thistime however it would not proceed from the white HTC screen mentioned above. Thinking that I had bricked my View I was able to boot into FastBoot Mode, however when I tried to go into recovery I got a screen with a phone and red triangle. I followed the directions on this site: http://androidadvices.com/fix-soft-brick-htc-view-evo-4g-ota-firmware-update/ and the recovery was copied to my View---but I still cant get into it.
can someone link me to a thread that might be of assistance in trying to get my View back on its feet? I dont want to send it to HTC.--I am :
*HBOOT 1.13.0000
*S-ON
Any help would be greatly appreciated

So does that mean I need to ROOT the device?
You would have to follow this thread

But what are you going to try once you have recovery?

I did...it didnt work---but I'm just wondering--I just pulled out the SD card to check its contents and found that there is no CWM on it---so I placed a copy on the root of SD card. Do you think I should proceed as though I was flashing a custom ROM?--Since most ROM's are for ROOT only--> should I just go ahead and ROOT device?
...Geez...This is depressing---Im literally STUCK. Its crazy tho cause I can get to the FastBoot menu
this forum isn't dead, there just aren't 1000 people who post every 5 minutes...someone will be able to help you, and if not in this thread, give a nudge to Globatron in his thread...there are still helpful people around (sorry i can't help)

I hope someone will be able to help me too---in the meantime I am goin to be looking to buy another View (cause i already know once I send this View into HTC they will put HC on it and I dont feel like going thru the long process of downgrading back to GB--> I'd rather spend $300 then go thru that again)

More details here. So you are getting into hboot then selecting bootloader and you are not getting into Fastboot?
Well...I'm getting into HBoot and I'm able to get into FastBoot.. I just can't use any of the actions in FastBoot.. like recovery or factory reset

try to get into fastboot then run the RUU for stock gingerbread (assuming you are on gb) and hopefully that fixes it
Hmmm...Globatron did a thread on downgrading HC to GB (for S-on) and I tried to use that particular RUU. My PC and Tablet 'acted' like it was goin to take but after 20 mins and my Tablet screen not goin thru the normal changes I unhooked USB. For some reason I believe there is a step I'm missing in order to make the RUU take.

Yes--> the stock RUU that Globatron used in the procedure to downgrade from HC to GB. The only thing is its not working when I try to flash it via FastBoot. Again for some reason something is blocking my phone from accepting it.. it could be that prior to my View acting up I didn't (most likely have USB debugging activated)...hence the reason my phone is not takin RUU

I am at a lose.
So you had a non rooted s on gb base without USB debugging enabled. It won't boot and won't allow you to factory reset.
I got nothing

*WOW*...I guess its dead then--QUESTION: Above, in my opening post I had stated that initially there was a problem with the View that I had purchased off of Amazon so I had to send it in. When they sent it back it had HC on it, so I had to follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414137 to get back to GB. To my understanding, that procedure was NOT for ROOTED devices (hence why I have S-ON)--however to do the procedure i had to use CWM (which I thought was only for ROOTED devices). Do you think the procedure that Globatron used was a TEMP-ROOT of some sort to get the device back to stock GB?

[Q] Stuck on HTC loading screen after trying gingerbread downgrade, any ideas?

Hi all,
I was trying to downgrade my HTC Flyer (3G and WiFi EU version, HTC_001) to gingerbread. Everything seemed to work as instructed but I'm now stuck on the white loading screen with the HTC logo on it, and can neither boot or communicate with the device.
For the downgrade I followed the instructions on this thread really carefully:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428104
I was using the 2.23.405.3 RUU.
To begin with, I'd upgraded to honeycomb by following Paul's guide, that had all been working fine for the last 6 months or so.
I've managed to power down the flyer through the adb fastboot, but that's as far as I can get. I'm not very experienced with this, so if anyone can make some suggestions on steps I could take to get my flyer working again I'd really appreciate it.
Many thanks,
Andii
Get into hboot and tell me your hboot version and if it says unlocked. I think you followed the wrong procedure and likely have hc hboot with gb system or something like that
Hi,
Thank you for replying. My Hboot is 6.11.1111
Does it say unlocked at the top or s off
Sent from my HTCEVOV4G using xda premium
I don't know, because it won't turn on now...
when I went through the process of the downgrade, at one point it gave me an instruction which involved locking. The command prompt said it was "already locked".
If it is not charging you will have to try to charge the battery independent of your flyer. There are some threads showing how to do this. Google it. I think you were soff hc and you flashed gb. The ruu can not overwrite the soff hboot so you are left with miss match parts thus no charge
Sent from my HTCEVOV4G using xda premium
Thanks so much for your help. I've found some of those threads; I've gotta say, It looks pretty complex and I think taking it apart is way beyond my capacity to sort. Rather regretting getting into this now, lesson learned! Is there no other option? If I send it off, obviously my warranty is voided, but will they repair it (at my cost of course)?
I'll read the charging threads thoroughly, but am really anxious about the process.
They should be able to repair it easily

Greets,
I've more or less exactly the same problem. I was on some Leedroid Custom HC version. For upgrading to a newer Leedroid Version I was downgrading back to Gingerbread using globatrons Downgrade Thread.
Worked fine until first reboot.
First I used RUU_Flyer_TMO_DE_2.27.111.1 (cause I have a 3G/Wifi T-Mobile branded device)
and later I tried again via this RUU_Flyer_HTC_WWE_2.23.405.3 (Stock version?!)
Still not working.
Here some details:
I still can access this revolutionary Bootloader (Vol Down + Power) and I think fastboot commands are still useable.
Here's what is written there
FLYER PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBoot Version is 6.11.1111
MICROP-0950
RADIO-3809.07.04.06_M
eMMC-boot
You have an idea how to fix it?
Thanks in advance !

Hej,
I used the downgrade procedure from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18508210&postcount=1 starting from "Downgrade".
I didn't create a goldcard, I was "just" using the RUUs mentioned in my last post.
Thx!
Your hboot said s off. To me that means you had s off hc which could not be downgraded using the method you tried. You likely have hc hboot and gb system. Go to easy s off hc thread and look at post 3. Download the correct downgrade package, 3G or wifi, follow instructions. Then flash gb ruu or gb rom

Hey Mcord,
thank you very much for your help, worked fine for me!
Now I just set up the gingerbread base (in S-OFF) on which I can install my ROM, didn't I?
It's written in the post that I can use the base for installing a HC Custom ROM (which was my intention) - can I just drop the Leedroid-ROM-ZIP on my SDcard and install it right away via the Bootloader?
Thanks again!
You have me all confused now. You were on hc with s off, why were you looking to go back to gingerbread? You could of just flashed the rom. Now you are on gb s off. To be able to flash hc roms use light package in op of same thread to get back to hc s off then flash lee rom.
What made you think you had to go back to gingerbread
I read somewhere in here http://www.modaco.com/topic/345950-...g-honeycomb-on-your-flyer-the-complete-guide/ that you need to go back to Gingerbread before installing another HC custom release. I was wondering a bit myself, though.
In Leedroid FAQ also globatron's instructions (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19607802&postcount=1) are linked at the Install FAQ. So I was just working off the instructions. First time flashing to Honeycomb was also more or less like this - I was on some GB version and I had to downgrade to a lesser version number of GB before actually going to Leedroids HC release; so this time I was not questioning myself for a sense behind it ^^
With light package I guess you mean the Instructions Part 2 in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19607802&postcount=1 this thread?
3 has the light updates meant to be used if you intend on flashing a rom immediately. You got confused a bit with s off and htc dev unlock. You were s off and free to flash roms
