Peace ALL,
Hopefully the development in this forum is not dead. I have a problem: My View will not boot-->it gets to the white HTC screen, then will shut off then go back to the white HTC screen. Ive contacted HTC, which will do a repair, but this will be the 2nd time I have sent it to HTC (of no fault of my own---meaning I didnt incorrectly try to root or apply a mod)
BACKGROUND
I bought my View off Amazon (Big mistake, I know). It originally had a charging problem so I sent it to HTC and they fixed it. When they sent it back they put HC on it---> which I didnt like. So I unlocked the bootloader thru HTC's website and followed Globatron's method of down-grading to GB. It worked and everything was fine. That was 3 months ago and I use my View everyday--mostly as an E-reader. Flash forward to 2 days ago. All of a sudden after downloading TubeMate & IceFilms on my View it started acting crazy. So I rebooted it--thistime however it would not proceed from the white HTC screen mentioned above. Thinking that I had bricked my View I was able to boot into FastBoot Mode, however when I tried to go into recovery I got a screen with a phone and red triangle. I followed the directions on this site: http://androidadvices.com/fix-soft-brick-htc-view-evo-4g-ota-firmware-update/ and the recovery was copied to my View---but I still cant get into it.
can someone link me to a thread that might be of assistance in trying to get my View back on its feet? I dont want to send it to HTC.--I am :
*HBOOT 1.13.0000
*S-ON
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Peace mcord,
So does that mean I need to ROOT the device?
You would have to follow this thread

But what are you going to try once you have recovery?

I did...it didnt work---but I'm just wondering--I just pulled out the SD card to check its contents and found that there is no CWM on it---so I placed a copy on the root of SD card. Do you think I should proceed as though I was flashing a custom ROM?--Since most ROM's are for ROOT only--> should I just go ahead and ROOT device?
...Geez...This is depressing---Im literally STUCK. Its crazy tho cause I can get to the FastBoot menu

I hope someone will be able to help me too---in the meantime I am goin to be looking to buy another View (cause i already know once I send this View into HTC they will put HC on it and I dont feel like going thru the long process of downgrading back to GB--> I'd rather spend $300 then go thru that again)

More details here. So you are getting into hboot then selecting bootloader and you are not getting into Fastboot?
Well...I'm getting into HBoot and I'm able to get into FastBoot.. I just can't use any of the actions in FastBoot.. like recovery or factory reset

try to get into fastboot then run the RUU for stock gingerbread (assuming you are on gb) and hopefully that fixes it
Hmmm...Globatron did a thread on downgrading HC to GB (for S-on) and I tried to use that particular RUU. My PC and Tablet 'acted' like it was goin to take but after 20 mins and my Tablet screen not goin thru the normal changes I unhooked USB. For some reason I believe there is a step I'm missing in order to make the RUU take.

Yes--> the stock RUU that Globatron used in the procedure to downgrade from HC to GB. The only thing is its not working when I try to flash it via FastBoot. Again for some reason something is blocking my phone from accepting it.. it could be that prior to my View acting up I didn't (most likely have USB debugging activated)...hence the reason my phone is not takin RUU

So you had a non rooted s on gb base without USB debugging enabled. It won't boot and won't allow you to factory reset.

*WOW*...I guess its dead then--QUESTION: Above, in my opening post I had stated that initially there was a problem with the View that I had purchased off of Amazon so I had to send it in. When they sent it back it had HC on it, so I had to follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414137 to get back to GB. To my understanding, that procedure was NOT for ROOTED devices (hence why I have S-ON)--however to do the procedure i had to use CWM (which I thought was only for ROOTED devices). Do you think the procedure that Globatron used was a TEMP-ROOT of some sort to get the device back to stock GB?

Recently acquired a Rezound in unknown, but not working condition. Previous owner said he tried to put a ROM on it, and it didn't work. He said it worked prior to the failed mod, and he's not a stranger, so I believe him.
All the original packaging and hardware are here. I don't think there is any hardware damage, everything looks visually ok. Does not appear to be the original SD card, it's only 8 gb.
The battery has power, and when I turn it on, I get the white HTC screen for at least 20 minutes.
I'm not a complete noob, I have successfully done a lot of mods to my old Eris, but this Rezound is a different animal. How do I proceed?
I tried to fix this earlier, and had to set it aside. Now I'm trying again.
Boot into hboot (google it if you don't know) and tell us the hboot version. If you can see the white htc screen the phone software can be fixed relatively painlessly.

Did you wipe data a few times before installing CleanROM?
"A few times"? No. I just did it once.
Update:
I added the GB firmware update, and followed the instructions for Method 4 at:
http://www.scottsroms.com/content.php/153-Rezound-CleanROM-Developer-Edition-1-4-is-now-out!
I downloaded his files, including the PH98IMG.zip, and also flashed that per the instructions.
Do I need to wipe multiple times?
as a heads up, I did get a warning in the Fastboot that said the battery voltage was low. Could that be the source of my headaches?
Personally the best thing to do IMHO is to flash the RUU and start over. See if that boots. If it doesn't then you have a other problems.
Also. If you try reflashing in recovery wipe data, boot and system.
Flash that Rom, gb patch, then reboot to bootloader and flash the ph98img.

Yes where Scott says full RUU. Follow that to a T.
It really sounds like a kernel issues, but to be on the safe side. Sometimes you just have to ruu regardless cause something got messed up that wiping in recovery can't fix.
If it boots after RUU, reunlock, s-off and be a happy camper. If you get it to boot after ruu and need more help just PM me or repost in this thread.
You seem to be pretty good at searching. All the info you need is on these forums.

Bricked- A device state in which you can NOT get to bootloader, Recovery or standard installed OS.

So, I have gone through the whole process of rooting my phone, unlocking it. I have TWRP on it, Titanium backup (thankfully), Goo Manager. It is S-on. I have 2.09 Hboot. My TWRP-jewel is 2.5.0.0. Ok, now onto my question, I am trying to get CM-10 to load but it doesn't go any further than the load screen. No matter what I try. I have even tried switching to JellyBAM but all to no avail. Can someone offer me tips as to what I may have done or be doing wrong? Thanks in advance
[Q] trying to put CM10 on my rooted phone
Forgive me if I put this in the wrong group, but I feel this is probably the right one for it. I have Hboot 2.09. I have TWRP. I have S-on. I want to put CM10 with Gapps onto my phone but every way I have tried, CM10 just sits there and loops around, the longest being an hour. I figured some time was possible, but come on. Over on Google+, people are telling me to flash this and flash that, fastboot this or that. I have no idea what they are trying to say to me. I am loving learning all of this but I need a little more explanation than just flash something. I realize that flash has something to do with commands. I am running windows 8 if that helps on my laptop. My TWRP version is 2.5.0.0. I don't know if my phone has gone through the latest update or not. Thanks for any help you can give me!
You have to install the kernel separately from the ROM since you're S-on. Click the link in my sig for more info.
You most likely have the newest touch panel driver, so you can only use ROM's based off the latest OTA, software version 3.16. Your touchscreen won't work otherwise. You can gain S-off and downgrade your touch panel driver, at which point you can run AOSP ROM's like CM.

First of all you might be on the newest touch panel driver, and that's the first thing that gets you in trouble because aosp roms don't work with that, as of now, it might work later... Who knows... Secondly you need to flash the boot.img separately thru fastboot because your are s-on and on 2.09... To make your life easier try to get s-off either thru facepalm or dirty racun... That way you can flash any rom and also downgrade your touch panel driver to get aosp working on your phone... If you flash viper rom it has a senseless option so you can use nova and get stability and some sort of aosp look... Good luck!

Yes, S-off is the way to go if you want to run CM. Otherwise, try meanbean or viper or sharkie or any other sense based Rom. They should work fine.

ADB commands must be issued when the phone is mounted as media share not as fastboot. Connect your phone as if you were transferring files between it and your pc.

I went thru a process that with the steps combined with htcdev site got me to say unlock my bootloader. I used hoot 2.09 and I was supposed to flash this pimg175 zip to i guess install a recovery. Well that won't work at all... I cant get my s on switched to s off and so i am stuck with according to the hoot screen a tampered, unlocked with s on, unrooted phone. I am so confused with all the steps and files I had to download, rename and save to various folders that I gave up. With my phone at its current state what do I do next? I deleted all the files from the day I unlocked it but if you can explain to me... And explain like if I was a five year old cuz I'm that dumbfounded on this subject... But if u can maybe walk me thru the rest of the process or walk me thru a undoing of what I done so far. I'm lisa. My email is [email protected]

Can't he just do a factory reset and then boot to one of the custom recoveries and re-flash the latest OTA?

No op's links have broken software...I have the needed files on my dropbox and media fire account...and no all factory reset does is wipe all data and setting for ROM...and may cause custom ROMs to not boot...ota is only achievable if on stock ROM and there is an update...however I have all those proper files too

Got it.
One last question, though, since I'm not that savvy...

...I didn't upgrade to the latest OTA from a previous OTA---I was on the Global Leak---and I installed the ROM found here with absolutely no problems after manually upgrading the firmware to the latest, which is what the OP is on. Fwiw, that ROM still appears to be available via the link in Post 1 of that thread.

that isnt a pure stock ota bud...thats a rom made with includes from it and rooted
This might sound stupid, but your objective here really is to get stockish, correct? With your HBoot you could use this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2260154
Just make sure to flash boot.img afterwards via fastboot. This is as close to pure stock (only root added) as you can get without S-Off or other trickery. It should suffice for the requirements of the OP.

I've been trying to deal with this problem over in the liquidsmooth thread, but it's clear now that my problems are not related specifically to the rom and that thread isn't really the place for it.
I've lost all cell connectivity. Calls, texts, data, everything. The liquid rom had been working for me for over a week. I've reverted to previous roms both with new flashes and using restore files. I've tried a different recovery. Every time, it acts like I don't have a sim card.
I was suspecting that my sim might be bad, but back on the liquidsmooth thread, it was suggested that I need to RUU back to stock and start over. I'd be willing to do that except the only way suggested was really complicated. I'm S-on and it included ubuntu and the wire trick to get s-off, which I'm hesitant to do. I searched and found another thread with instructions to run an RUU while still s-on, and it seems like it would have worked except that my hboot is newer than the RUU used, and I've been unable to find a newer one.
I tried flashing the stock rom above and flashing the stock recovery that I had from when I first rooted several months ago. It still thinks I don't have a sim card, but otherwise it booted fine until I re-locked to bootloader. Then it wouldn't boot anymore. I guess it still knows that those versions of hboot, the recovery, and the rom don't quite go together.
Is there an RUU that will work with hboot 2.28 to "un-root" my phone without downloading a second operating system and performing surgery on my phone? Are the correct stock rom and recovery out there that I can flash and re-lock? Is there a way to know if that is actually the problem if if it is just my sim card? Are there any other ideas to get my phone functioning again?
Please help!

There is no RUU for your hboot, need to s-off...
If your SIM is bad, get a new one from Verizon.
Also, is the battery cover on?

On that note... Are using a stock battery cover? Some aftermarket ones are questionable at best. Also, try another SIM, Verizon will replace it free.

I tried using a friend's good sim card and it didn't work. Yes, I'm using the stock battery cover. I guess I'll have to do s-off so I can RUU back to stock.
Ugh . . . This has become so much more than I ever intended to get myself into

You didn't answer my question, is it on the phone while you're testing your connection. Dumb question I know, antenna's are in it though and I've caught people leaving it off and not getting a signal then wondering why...

Sorry, I missed that part of the question. We did it pretty quick, but I think I did put the battery cover. Also, it's not just getting no signal, there is an icon in the notification bar and a big message on the lock screen says I have no sim card at all. That has never happened before, even with the battery cover off. As I look back I realize I failed to mention that important detail. I guess it still couldn't hurt to try a brand new sim card before taking the plunge into s-off. Even if that isn't the problem, at least I'll know for sure, and as you pointed out, its easy and free.
Hello all, and thank you for taking your time to attempt to help me with my problem.
I could not find a solution even after hours of researching and trial and error, so please forgive me if this happens to be one of those problems that are seemingly impossible to solve, when the actual solution is really quite simple! I'm hoping it is at the very least...
A few days ago I received an HTC Evo 3d from a family member.
I'm certain that the phone was completely stock, never rooted, no custom ROMs ---- just an ordinary HTC 3vo.
So I decide that I'm going to go ahead and find the steps necessary in order to flash a custom ROM, and I believe I did with this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438
I followed the guide, and eventually got to "***Step3: Perform JuopunutBear (wire trick) to get S-OFF status" where I had a little difficulty with the timing of the taps on the SD card. At one point I removed the battery from my phone because I thought it was stuck on the screen with the green arrow pointing downward, and after trying to reboot I found that the same JuopunutBear screen with the green arrow was still there.
I removed the battery once more, but this time when booting I held the volume down button to initiate bootloader. That went successfully, and so after trying the methods I found at http://unlimited.io/jbtroubleshooting.htm to remove this screen, I figured that I might try and flash a ROM from recovery and maybe that would fix it?xD My logic proved only half correct because even after formatting data/cache/dalvik, and then flashing a few different ROMs (not in the order of course) to see if any of them would allow the phone to boot up completely into OS, the phone is now stuck in a bootloop :'(
If I didn't provide enough information in the above description then I'd be glad to give any more details.
My bootloader reads like this:
- Juopunutbear -
SHOOTER XC SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.57.5757
eMMC-boot

^ Never noticed that the date is inaccurate before typing all of this out! Not sure that has anything to do with my problem here, but still interesting..
Thank you again for taking your time to help me.
This phone has given me trouble since it was first given to me lol.
The first issue before rooting or anything was with the inability to use wifi!
I ended up having to buy service for the phone to even register my Gmail account..
You're in good shape
With s off you can recover easily.
The question is what do you want to run?
If you're going to stay ics sense, then you'll just need to format all partitions except sd and flash a Rom
If you want to run a jb Rom, you need to downgrade your hboot to the jbear 1.50

Thank you for the reply
I'll try flashing different sense ROMs specifically,
and see if it will boot all the way through to the home screen.
Have you installed a recovery?
I suggest 4ext
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
I have installed a recovery, and it just happens to be 4ext!
I've been installing my ROMs by toggling usb storage in recovery, placing the ROM on the root of my microSD, and after disconnecting from usb storage I proceed to flash the chosen ROM, provided I've already wiped everything.
My trouble usually comes afterward when the ROM has completed it's installation and I go to reboot. Every time I've tried so far I've encountered a bootloop :/ But we'll see this time!
Gotcha
You'll get it sorted
What Rom are you trying now?
Sometimes you need to flash the boot.IMG after the Rom, but that usually only happens if youre s on.
If it still bootloops I would try this next:
Boot to recovery
Wipe all partitions
Reboot recovery
Wipe all partitions again
Flash Rom
Reboot phone
If all else fails you can run the ruu (will return u to stock Rom and recovery) and you will keep s off but will need to install recovery again.

I chose Team d3rp - Lights Out just to see if it would work, and to my surprise it did!!!
I wiped everything but my sd manually once,
and after flashing the ROM, the aroma installer gave the option to wipe again so I did.
After a suspenseful minute or two during the reboot, I finally got everything set up!
I can't thank you enough..!!
I'm not sure if I should make another thread or not, but the only problem I see now is with the wifi.
I have it connected to my network, and it's showing full signal,
but I can't access the internet and 3g doesn't even pick up when wifi is on.
If needed I'll make another thread, but I figured I would ask just in case!
I appreciate all the help so far.
Try a reboot or different kernel...don't know why it doesn't work

Hello, a couple of days ago I received an HTC Evo 3D, but I don't like the stock HTC rom, so I decided to use NonSense (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1507616). I updated firmware, and installed CWM 6.0, wiped partitions and installed that ROM. But now i got a bootloop :/ .
Bootloader is unlocked..

S-off, I think it has to be s-on, hboot 1.53.0007, i'm currently trying to use RUU get back to stock, RUU says :
from image version 3.28.401.1 to 3.28.631.1
But it fails because of model id.
Bootloader is currently relocked.

You can only flash sense based ROMs with that h-boot. Since you're s-off just downgrade your h-boot to 1.49.0007 or 1.49.1107 and you can flash anything you want

Oh crap, made a mistake, I have s-on.
Then you can only flash sense based ROMs. Try Cool ICS, it's great. Or do s-off ?

You need 4ext recovery and smartflash enabled because Cool uses custom kernel

I tried with CWM, and after a successful flash and boot, I flashed boot.img via fastboot, seems to be working, thank you!
You're welcome
