ICS and Openzone - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I recently updated my phone to ICS and now I am having issues with BT Open one and Fon.
On this phone using GB I turned on my wifi, opened the browser (Dolphin HD) and it kicked me to the log in page whenever I was at work and it was fine. However now I don't get redirected. Instead I get 'webpage not available' in Dolphin, and a lengthy 'DNS lookup failed' message in Chrome. Stock browser is also displaying 'webpage not available'.
I am showing 3 or 4/4 bars on the wifi icon and in wireless settings it says BT Fon connected. But Openzone (which is the only other in range) does exactly the same thing.
I tried calling BT but they don't do tech support for specific devices. She did say, however, that the DNS needs to be set to automatic to redirect to the landing page. I'm not very good with networks and their features so I am stumped here.
I've tried to be as thorough as possible. Does anyone have any advice to point me in the right direction please?

[Q] No Data Connection in 2.1

Yesterday, I successfully updated to android 2.1. I have confirmed that the APN information is correct and that there is sufficient network coverage. I have activated data in the settings - yet I cannot seem to get a data connection. Unless I activate WIFI, neither facebook nor mail will update, and I also cannot open websites in several browsers (opera, fennec, standard browser, dolphin).
I also don't get an icon for 3g or hsdpa connection.
Anyone having the same problem? Or even better... a solution?
Best,
-Mike

I would say it's your carriers networks are down. I had a similar problem but the 3G symbol was there and it just would download anything. I then disabled juice defender and it works perfectly.
If you are running the nordic kit this seems to be a fairly common problem. One of the guys over at phandroid fixed this by going to the SIM Toolkit and downloading settings, but I did not have this option. I was able to get it working temporarily by fiddling with the APN settings, but then like you it just failed to work any more.
I have flashed back to 1.6 and am now going to update with generic uk firmware.
So - I tried the Sony Ericsson option in the settings (topmost menu entry) to automatically download settings, I tried setting them manually, I tried auto-configuring via the apn-options... nothing worked...
then, suddenly, without having changed anything - I get a 3G signal. Seems to have sorted itself out for whatever reason. Will update in case anything changes.

[Q] "Web page not available"

I have a peculiar problem and i guess, from google search results, that many others have similar problem.
I am using Samsung Galaxy S 2 mobile phone.
Of late, the default Browser application on my samsung galaxy s2 just keeps coming up with the standard "Web page not available" page when I try to connect to any website.
I generally use default browser to access the web and this used to work perfectly. Of late it has developed this problem. I then tried Dolphine, Miren, Skyfire and this also did the same!
All other applications are fine and can connect to the internet perfectly well. Only In browser, which was downloaded prior to this problem, works fine.
So it seems like something is amiss with my settings / files that the default Browser, Dolphin and Skyfire use.
Any ideas?
You can also reach me on [email protected].
Hoping that someone here would be able to resolve this issue.

I had this problem. Browser worked fine on 3G and would not work on wi-fi even though all apps worked. I fixed this by deleting the Proxy setting - Wi-Fi settings > menu Advanced > Proxy and clear the field. Works OK now.
thanks for response, but it does not solve my problem.
i hope any senior member would come forward on this problem.
Hi, i got the same problem, is Access Point Names problem. Please go Settings->Wireless and network->Mobile Networks->Access Point Names->and choose the DIGI/CELCOM/MAXIS internet. * choose according what telco you using.
solved: use packet data
Hi- Samsung Galaxy S2 with same problem. Also could not attach pictures to text messages, and phone stuck on "downloading" a message of type "multimedia message notification"; both of which may be related issues?
This helped me: make sure "use packet data" is checked at:
settings\wireless and network\mobile networks
(It may have been cancelled by letting my battery die?)

Galaxy S2 Data connectivity problem

Hello everyone! I've encountered a substantial problem with my galaxy s2 and I would like your help, if possible.
This problem is related to the mobile network. Each time I try to connect to a website I get some kind of error, from 'Data connectivity problem' to 'Server failed to communicate' and even the traditional 'Web page not available'.
Note: There are a couple of websites that seem to work, such as: m.orange, m.facebook.com and m.yahoo.com.
At this point I would like to mention that Wi-Fi works as intended, with no problems whatsoever.
As for the mobile network, I believe I have the right settings resembled in the APN settings. Data connection is turned on, and I have tried both GSM and 3G. I have also tried different internet browsers, such as Opera, with the same result: only m.orange, m.facebook and m.yahoo seem to work.
It is quite frustrating at times not to have access to a mobile network. I would like to add that this problem remains to any apps that need a network connection in order to run. Therefore, I cannot run anything (Android Market, Google Maps, Youtube app, etc etc).
Thank you for your time. Please advise!
First of all, double check APN settings, see if your provider has an app in the market, or sometimes you can send an SMS and they'll sms you settings.
Secondly, try another modem, you may have a weak modem, before doing this download speedtest and check your connection speed and post that up. To see hows well it's connecting.
Thirdly, check your operators website to make sure they are not having network difficulties in your area.
Is their a setting that turns standard web pages off because that's what it looks like .
jje
Visit the webpage of your service provider. Usually on their support page you can have their data/mms settings sent to you by sms which then will be "auto-installed" on your phone. Good luck!

[Q] weird wifi issues with android! (play store & whatsapp)

right, this one is a weird one, and i just cant figure it out!
i have 2 android devices at home; a Nexus One and a HTC One S. both exhibit the same issue
in short, when I'm connected to wifi at home, i'm unable to use Google Play or send pictures in whatsapp. gPlay says no network or network timeout when opening the Play app, and whatsapp will just sit there trying to send a photo (the little grey clock icon).
when i'm on any other wifi network; home, friends or parents house, or use the vodafone (UK) network they both work.
to make it weirder, i can push install apps via the Play Store via a PC browser when i'm on wifi, i just cant use the Play app on the phone.
so, it seems like something specific to my ISP/home network right?
so far, this is what i've done to try and fix the issue...and the outcome (works = apps function as expected. fails = i continue to experience issues):
- enable Internet Passthrough via USB cable on the phone (uses laptop network connection). this works. Eliminates router issues?
- configure infrastructure wifi with windows7 Internet Connection Sharing and connect phone to this new wifi network. this fails.
- tried another AP from work (Cisco 1130AG - we use these at work where i am able to sucessfully connect). This fails. Eliminates potential wifi chipset compatibility issues?
- full wipe of HOS phone. this fails.
- used google to find many reports of similar issues, but seem to be the opposite of me; they sugest wifi as a solution, with broken APN settings, or to clear cache of the 'google play store' app on the device experiencing issues.
- opened firewall ports on router (TCP/UDP 5228 according to the google play FAQ), also stuck phone in DMZ. this fails
- firmware and full factory reset on router. fails.
it's been going on for so long that i cant remember when it started (a number of months). i've changed ROMs on my HOS phone and that has no effect either. i dont recall having issues relating to anything specific; one day it just started happening and not worked since.
have i missed anything, and can anyone think of any more ideas? is this something i'm just going to have to live with? does google have any human contact support method for this?

No public wifi connection

So guys,
I don't know if everyone knows "fon", but it is a global wifi conection.
It has a public wifi network and we have to login to it by browser.
The problem is that on the Oneplus X the login screen doesn't even appear. If i try automatic login by the app i lose the wifi connection.
Anyone has the same problem?
Any thoughts?
Cheers
I've tried wifi connections via Starbucks and Transit (MTA Wifi) as well as my school wifi and they all require opening a browser to login, They worked fine for me. But I can't seem to detect my Gym's wifi, idk if it's my phone thats not detecting it or that the wifi isn't even there since I didn't have a buddy to confirm whether or not it was available. But the other scenarios worked fine.

nope, dont have xposed installed.
I have a similar issue.
My previous device was a Nexus 4, and I used to get a notification that prompted for a login when ever it connected to public wi-fi (was the wi-fi icon with an exclamation mark next to it). Didn't need to open a browser.
No it may be that was a stock Android feature, but it worked really well.
On my OPx I have to open a browser and type a url before it will redirect to me to any wi-fi login page. It doesn't work if I refresh an existing browser page - I just get a message saying it can't connect. During all of this however, the wi-fi icon shows the 'connected' state. It's the one thing that really annoys me about this device, but very few people seem to mention it.
Yes. I think it's strange. Maybe we are the only one that use public Wi-Fi?
I've got same problem. Very annoying. Considering that free hotspot in our town has such login (actually just form with single button to connect), SSID same all over town and it automatically connect as soon it see such network and losing sync/connection to all background applications like messengers.
I'm currently battling with OnePlus Support about this issue, they somehow not fully understand issue :crying:
Well, maybe they don't have hot-spots in China or something... But we don't see so many people saying that they have this problem.
That's why oneplus don't care about it also
Hi, i have the same problem with autentication web page. The phone connect to network but the autentication page don't work.
Yes that is the problem i was talking about!
But i don't care now, thanks to MasterAwesome.
Goodbye oxygen for ever!
