hi, i have issues with getting paid apps on my sony tablet S and i was wondering if this is a tablet related issue or what? i am from Puerto Rico(US territory) so im guessing it could be for region issues or not. can anyone help?
issues

Sounds like a bummer. I have heard of people being able to change their registered regions though, so that might be possible.
ill see if i can change it thanks, do you know how to change it?

Thank you dtaylorr. Your pointers showed to me that I am not alone, and this is a general issue for those who frequently switch Play Store/Market servers. This was an issue still unresolved by Google for over a year! How can we raise our concern for their attention?

So! I am using the latest CM7 build(RC 1.6.1), MR2 Radio, stock kernels and I live on the east coast US. I'm using Fancy Widgets because it's a pretty decent and free replacement for a sense-like clock. But I am often getting an issue that effects not only it, but the default News and Weather App that says I am located in KlaipÄ—da. I can sometimes fix it by opening Google Maps and refreshing my location there, and then refreshing my location in FW. My clock seems to be fine, but the widget app displays a moon after around 2PM. Anyone have ideas?
Yes, you are really in Lithuania. Your phone knows much better about where you are than you do. I mean it has GPS for s***sake.
But really...this has been covered hundreds of times in any CM7 tbolt thread you can find.
It's a problem with network location. Some suggested turning "Mock Locations" off in Applications/Development helped. Others said it made no difference.
BTW, in case Google is a little intimidating I'll get you started...http://www.google.com/search?q=(fan...ation+cm7+thunderbolt+site:xda-developers.com or http://www.google.com/search?q=(fan...ocation+cm7+thunderbolt+RC+site:rootzwiki.com
TLDR: yes...it's known

I'll try using the turning off Mock Locations and see where that gets me. I didn't see it in every thunderbolt thread, probably should have looked just a littler harder. But I seriously thank you for reminding me to use Google in such a way. I mean, it's so useful for finding many things, look at what else I just found.

As mentioned it's a known bug with all aosp on the ThunderBolt and the devs are aware of the issue.
And yes, you really are in Lithuania lol

I disagree, telling people they are 'special' when they couldn't find something through searching and telling them and suggesting that Google is intimidating comes off rather rude. Not to mention posting a 'TooLongDidntRead.' But maybe I'm just reading too much into this.

If you read a number of my posts, especially some in the dInc forum, I have a tendency to come of VERY blunt with a good does of my own personal character and opinion. It doesn't always come off as well in writing as it does in person. Absolute_Zero is a good guy and will do anything he can to help. I'm sure you can depend on him to answer any question you might have, but like many of the rest of us, I see his point in searching first. There's a lot of people here that know a lot of stuff who didn't obtain that knowledge by question, but rather, by searching it out, and there's a frustration that comes with seeing a question arise that hasn't been researched before posting... at least that's the assumption.
Let's just let it go. This isn't an issue that's going to enrich anyone.

...In Soviet Russia...oh nevermind
I'd say turn off mock locations, set your location manually and/or use gps to get it. You should be fine then.
I just heard from my specialists and they said that in a few days there will be an update that will fix the issues you have encountered.
I hope we get a bump up to 4.4.2 along with it, but if not, then a fix for the current problems is amazing.

Nope, sorry.
Just got my XZU GPe. I'm having the same issues with this device. I called Google and expressed my concern. They had said "numerous" people with this issue, and should have a "fix soon".
Hurry up and wait I guess.
So I have a Huawai g630. It does everything that I need a phone to do but im sure It will never get a update past 4.3 and there is no rom support that I know of.
So my question is this. How big of a deal is this? I don't care that much about feature, its cheap enough that I can replace it in a year but I do care about security.
I don't download from other places than the play store and I of course update chrome, so how big a deal is this?
Should I replace it with something that has more support?
thx in advance.
Edit: Sorry maybe I have asked this question in the wrong place.

Considering the majority of phones are using some version of Jelly Bean, most likely there won't be any significant issues with keeping it for another year or so. As long as you are on at least ICS, and it does everything you need it to then that's the most important thing. As far as security, sounds like you have the right idea. Just paying attention to what you put on the phone is the most important security thing.
Just posting a reminder that any rom posted here has to have the MI store removed from the rom. The app is banned as it provides warez.
You've effectively killed this forum, the only source of ROMs for our device. Thanks.

All it takes is having the app removed. Not really hard.
This app has been banned since the beginning of Xiaomi producing miui roms. It's nothing new.

There are Tuts on how to get gapps working.

Same. Some stupid policies and some stupid myths. Perhaps there used to be some sort of warez there accidentally and everyone is still being anal about it. As you can see mods don't really care about this phone. You can see by posts like "I would never get their devices". So childish

It's not a matter of childish. I have many reason why I would never own one of their devices and that being the fact that the oem is on my jobs banned list.
Also all you have to do is look at any of the so called. Free apps that are paid apps on the Android market.
Make no mistake it was not accidental at all. China is known for things like this.
As for the mods. We have been around long enough to know the story with them so, no none of use would ever touch one of their devices. But that is pointless as it's up to the users to do something with it.

You can look yourself. Just do a compare between the 2 stores. That was part of the reasons why miui roms were banned for the longest time.
You have to remember that MIUI started here on xda before Xiaomi bought them out.
Warez or not, MI Store sucks ass, but banning ROMs is pointless, MIUI forum is trash, I still don't know how it works, and some ROM's has backdoors and for example, they send paid SMS to vietnam, That sh!t costed me 50 bucks!!!

If you look around the internet you will find all the stories you need. They are alos on the military banned list in the US due to ties with the Chinese military.

Thank you, but I suppose if we use non MIUI rom such as cm, then these risk of using xiaomi devices is gone right? also, what do you think of Mokee Rom? As it's also made by chinese people, and you said that china is known for "something", is it might also poses similar risks?

First let me make one thing very clear. I have nothing against Chinese people that make software. You have to understand the Government that runs the country there, to have a small understanding. You see In china they have the right to monitor everything their citizens are doing on the internet. This is part of the reason for the great firewall of china. So spyware, malware and other software that helps in this are normally sponsered by the Military to help in doing just this.
I have never used it myself but as it is an open source based OS it should be good. You can see just what it is doing. The hard part will be the coding translations, as things dont always translate right.
Any non MIUI based rom should be ok. The problem with that is CM is normally buggy and all the roms use the patch rom setup which is never really stable nor is it something I would trust as that is injecting stuff into a rom that I cant VET.
In this day and age one has to be careful with all these new toys that are coming to many markets across the world.
Remember, You get what you pay for. So if something is too good to be true then you have to find the catch.

You are right about the store, i was quite surprised when i found paid apps there. This is correct.
But i'm not sure if this is still the case, i saw them a year ago, now i couldn't find the apps,
maybe they've cleaned the store in meantime.
And a script removing apps isn't hard, just search for "updater-script remove apps".
BUT i've tried such script on Sony Xperia P, not in MIUI, i don't know if deleting Mi Store (com.xiaomi.mipicks) would cause bootloop or not.
I know that Mi Store enabled/disabled is region dependent, you can disable it when switching to another region in Beta rom.
But deleting? I know that when i've deleted Updater apk, or changed its permissions, it caused bootloop. Needs to be confirmed.
But with government spying - if you want to be honest - maybe we should ban all ROMs tied with Google, which means all Androids?
Remember about PRISM and Edward Snowden?
American's NSA (National Security Agency) ?
I have nothing to American people, just sayin.
But according to former CIA employee, Edward Snowden, Google joined to the NSA spying program in 14 Jan 2009.
I think that you simply have a choice - either give your personal data to American or to Chinese people. (or both).
You can minimize the risk by disabling for ex. Analytics app... etc.
But saying that chinese are spying... USA govt does the same
And better not looking for Echelon project...
But - the main topic here - yes, it's a good idea to remove Mi Store from roms.
One can always add it himself/herself, there are also other stores, F-droid, Aptoid, there is a choice
American companies aren't communist nor are they guilty of some of the most sever human rights violations in the world.

Look at this. The moderator has deleted several posts from me. Also I've been banned three times, just to complain about the problems found in the ROM and the bad treatment received by the company.
Never more Mediatek and above all never more UMIDIGI.
Sorry, but not knowing how to use a product is different from the product being bad.
I was going to answer you, but ... I'll just ignore you.
Not worth it.
That's fine. But in that thread all you've posted is that there's "problems" with battery, camera and Bluetooth. You've posted no details. Kinda makes it hard for them to help you. And, as an aside, there's not many other people reporting the same issues. That's a very long way from being "bugs" that affect all units/users.
Interesting, a whole thread full of users who do not know how to use their mobile and can not distinguish a bug from its clumsiness.
Luckily we have experts like you who know how to light our way.
Thank you for your valuable help.
I have an umi z and i definitiefly say "dont buy any umi phone !!!"
It's true ,my battery gets swollen after 3 month of normal using and you have no chance to get a simple answer to your mails to the support team.
On a umidigi forum a "developer " just talking bull**** to us customer.

I really love the fan boys who use the phone no more than to browse facebook and make calls. We posted the issues they are the ones who did not ask for details. Al they do is saying "oh, we dont have that problem on our testing devices". learn to read more or come earlier to read the deleted posts and maybe you find more about how useless umidigi is.
Just saying that if the vast majority of users aren't having those issues then you've been unlucky or there's something else wrong.

The vast majority does not know what a damn 4k is altough the processor supports. The vast majority does not now what Volte is and does not needs it because they dont know what it does. The vast majority does not use bluetooth as a principle. The vast majority has the phone to say it is deca core without knowing what that really is
