[Q] Face unlock after .21 update? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Just spent a while exploring my TFP and the threads after .21 update but can't seem to find face unlock. This feature was touted in several places as part of this update... anybody have any idea what the deal is? Obviously don't need it, but... WANT!

Face unlock after .21 update? Other features?
I can't find face unlock either. Does anyone know where to find the change log?

yea asus said in there twitter account that the face unlock was not included in this update... that's all they said..

Sorry for my question, but what is face unlock?

you unlock your tfp with your face? it recognizes it....... google it bro

Interestingly some of the settings stuff seems to be in the update. There is a refreshed Face-Unlock system thing that Titatinum backed up.

faceunlock wasnt included in this update, i think they said it was planned for future updates though...

Ahh, I was looking forward to trying this out ever since ICS came out. Boo!

if we can flash soon, then we can add it.. looks like asus didn't include it

Why on earth would they remove that? That's so stupid. That's a killer feature! I was really looking forward to making ugly faces to my tablet

If face unlock is part of google apps, couldn't we just pull it off of a ICS phone and push the face unlock app via adb?
Seriously? No face unlock?!

Booooo, that's some BS (not that I'm doubting it's true, but BS in the sense that we should have it). It's just an app with very little requirements (camera?). I thought the purpose of a Nexus was to showcase the features of the software, not necessarily sell the phone, but the OS. At least given our current history (48hrs to get Asus to agree to unlock the bootloader, root obtained before most people got their tablet) I don't imagine it will be too long til we get it ported over somehow

just pulled the facelock.apk from my GNexus and tried to install it, and it says:
"Replace Application?
This is a system application. Do you still want to replace it?
All Previous user data will be removed."

so i guess its in the system but not allowed to be used yet. i have no idea.
I posted this in the other thread about Face Unlock, I was looking thru the apps disabling what I could in the settings and I see that Face Unlock is in there it lets you force close it and disable it. Its version 4.0.3-239410 and says its 64KB not sure if thats the full app or maybe something that will get added in later. Maybe we just need to find a way to enable it?

This is such BS... I was really looking forward to this feature. Hope our magical devs will be able to enable it soon, or alternatively I hope ASUS enables it in another OTA very soon. This is our first iteration of ICS afterall, I'm sure there are still plenty of things that need to be ironed out or added.

Its not stock on the Sensation. You have to have flashed a rom that included it, which might be what we have to do with the prime.
Not to be a downer on the whole thing, but i have it on my GSII, it doesnt work all the time...
Has anybody tried re-installing it? Maybe one installed is like an empty apk?

Facelock

Howdy, so I got my prime the other day, rooted today, and while using titanium backup freezing stuff I saw com.Android.Facelock But searching the normal way I can't find how to activate it. It's not under Settings/Security/set screen lock.
Am I missing something or is it just there to tease us?
Thanks for any that reply

Not sure what a day will get you, but good luck with that thought.
I'm pretty sure Google makes you choose a PIN or password when you use face unlock, so that if the face-unlocker isn't working, you won't be locked out

That ugly huh?
But yeah, with face unlock you set a pin code as an alternative/backup unlocking method so that you don't get permanently locked out. Even Google recognizes it as a pretty unreliable feature
Still though, I'm looking forward to a stable release build of CM9 so that I can has faceunlock

For some reason the ASUS unlock tool wont work for quite a few people it gives a "unknown error message could be related to connection issue" I contacted ASUS and they say they cant help me because my serial number has been unlocked and my warrenry it gone. But the funny thing is that my Prime was unlocked when I sent it to them last month and bricked . they fixed it for free and sent it back and it was not unlocked anymore and now i cant unlock it.
wow this is interesting because I had mine fixed from them too due to a bad battery or something, they re locked mine too. I am actually not trying to unlock my prime for now. No real reason other than with my prime unlocked all I did was wish I had not unlocked it.
I used Virtuos Rom which was the same as stock to me, and realized all the good stable roms were based off stock.
Now I am just waiting for a way to root this on .21 without having to downgrade to .15

what someone needs to do is unlock their prime while monitoring TCP/UDP packets. decrypt them and we can easily create a server that emulates connection to ASUS. Of course the meaning for this would ***NOT*** be to illegally unlock your device, but to unlock your device because the normal way is causing issues like the OP

It's just HTTPS, which is trivial to do since we have full access to the client device. Not much going on except for a few GET/POSTS with serial numbers, board numbers and the like.
And no, even if you did record it there's nothing of note since the device unlocking is based on purely device-specific keys.
Of course, this was all known on release day since a few people looked inside the apk to find this out for you.

Why are you afraid of dg to .15 root method, it doesn't affect any settings. Afraid it will brick again as you were once unlocked?

Not likely. We also legally can't reverse engineer the app to do the same things and unlock everything.
There is practically NO reason to totally unlock the bootloader. We can flash different kernels and software on there no problem. The only reason we'd want to mess with it is if we really want to change the bootloader itself, which is dangerous as it is.

The fix for this is to wait and try unlocking another time. There are a few glitches with unlocking, but it's nothing permanent.
Last month I sent my "unlocked" TFP in for service for bent power pins, the unit returned to me upgraded to .21 and "relocked"...no charge the next week. I promptly unlocked it again...no regrets.

I and many others would totally disagree. A partially unlocked boot-loader is far more dangerous than a fully unlocked boot-loader.

No, he meant there's no reason for Asus to release a FULL unlock tool. Right now, the unlock tool is only like a half unlock; they still limit what you're allowed to do after you run it.
You have to run their unlock tool in order to change kernels and flash ROMs.
