Question - how to delete failed ota update files - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hi. First. I already search and not found for solution. My ray BL unlocked and rooted. Then I tried to update to 2.3.4 via OTA and bricked. Already fix it. Decided to stay at 2.3.3 and wait for ICS. But the problem is I still got the "could not install" notification.
How to remove the notification and remove the ota update files?
Thanks

Noob question about OTA updates?

Hi Iam running Alien4 2.3.4 rom with faux1234. Iam rooted and obviously bl is unlocked. But I had a question, I never really understanded the fruit cake thing. I just wanted to make sure I don't brick my phone. So I can flash the 2.3.4 fruitcake, over my current rom, and it would be safe to download the new and future OTA updates over wifi and install it? Thanks

I heard that Google kills a stripper every time someone with a custom ROM attempts to OTA update.

Fruitcake replaces any OTA. Only update software via CWM now. No RSD, no nothing.

Keep root after ota ics

I was wondering if anyone knows if i can keep root after taking the ics ota. Ive tried root keeper but when i update my phone just reboots like normal? Can someone help or at least shed some light on how to even update using the ota without root? Thanks!

The usual wisdom is to never take ota if you are rooted. Why not just flash a stock, rooted Rom?

I could but thats not what i was asking...

The reason I suggested that is because you will lose root if you take the ota and will have to unlock using HTC dev, then flash a custom recovery, then install super user again. My suggestion is easier.

Getting Rid Of My Root *HELP* PLEASE!!

Hello everyone. I have a galaxy s3 i535 on verizon wireless. I am currently rooted and have CWM and a backup of CyanogenMod10 (jellybean). I am currently on stock ICS my phone shipped with. My question is how to i get rid of CWM and my root. I want to be ready for JB OTA. Also, does my bootloader need to be locked when i accept OTA updates?
I want my phone back to just like it came when i took it out of the box.

This might help. Post in there.

Root has nothing to do with ota updates, if you update rooted phone it will most likely loose it during the process. What you need is bootloader locked, unlocked bootloader on ota upgrade can brick the device
Do i need to get rid of cwm and my backups first?

I'm pretty sure yes, you do need stock recovery but you can keep your backups, those are just files saved onto the SD card

How do o get rid of it?

No you don't need to get rid of it...as i said before the only thing required is locked bootloader, the update will overwrite anything on the sytem partition and eventually will get erased with the update. If you really want to return to stock find the stock .ftf file for your phone and flash it using flashtools or odin similar program..it's all explained in section 6 of the link posted by .xxx. second post of this thread....
Ok i dont want to brick it. So all i need to do is lock ny bootloader the when i get jb ota i wont brick it

Can someone else verify this?

Just read here if you want further proof, it's in the sony forum but same rules apply to all devices

Why did you OTA after unlocking ??
Search the fota unbrick or see the sticky threads for the method. And never update over the air or using PC companion after unlocking

Never install OTA Updates on unlocked bootloader!
To get rid of it uninstall the UpdateCenter.apk
Its just one of those mini updates. 15.8mb its a system update,

hmmm...if i still remember it correctly, open update center, there should be showing there an update...press menu button then press option/preferences....inside there you can choose to update via network or wifi only...choose wifi only...reboot then the update icon will disappear from your status bar....
to fully remove it, just uninstall update center from your system files.....
Luckily, you have still not updated it using OTA. If you do that, you will brick your phone!! Download root browser or any file explorer as soon as possible and go to /system/app and delete UpdateCenter.apk. You can also use titanium backup to remove it.
Do not worry ota update doesnt work after rooting with unlocked bootloder u may even brick... Only way is to flash
