try to format it thru phone
Tried that a couple of time and it didn't work. After a couple of reboots it worked now. Thanks.
Still got a question though.
What are the correct settings for formatting the sd card from windows?
Is it necessary to partition it from CWM? What are the correct setting for this?
LE: Ok. I got myself deeper in trouble. I managed to format the sd card from CWM. I mounted the sd card and copied update-cm-7.2.0-RC1-p500-signed.zip over. I wiped the phone's memory and tried to install CM7 and got the following error: "E: Can't open /sdcard/update-cm-7.2.0-RC1-p500-signed.zip (bad)". I also tried with update-oxygen-2.3.2-LGP500-KANG-signed_v2.6.zip but doesn't work either.
I was thinking of trying to partition the sd card from CWM but i'm afraid i will make it unable to mount back again and this time i got no android to format it from.
Also it seems that formatting the sd card from cwm doesn't really work. The files are still there though it says that it completed.
LE2: I managed to mount sd card from cwm and copied over a cwm backup folder i had in my computer. Takes a while to copy it like it really does something. But after i try to restore or remount usb storage the files aren't there anymore.
can you tell me why do you want to patition your sd card? do you want to create second partition (sd-ext) or what?

Just format your SDCARD from SETTINGS - STORAGE, after that proceed with the instalation of CM7 or whatever you want. Don't partition your SDCARD if you don't know how to do that and if you don't need partitioned SDCARD. It is not necessary to do that if you don't use an APPS2SD app, so don't waste your time with that.

help, I accidentally formatted my sd card. After rebooting, I always get the message that the sd card is blank or has an unsupported file system. I have tried different ways of formatting (ext4, ext3, fat32, fat32+ ext3) but no success so far.
Anyone has a solution? I am using modaco 2.8
D
With Astro or similar first back up your applications, secondly go back to recovery and go to bottom to mount sd card so that you can copy backups folder to your pc.
Now reformatt and make partitions and remount sd card to copy modaco's rom and choose zip to update. I dont think there is easy way round.
So you are saying the only way to fix this is by reflashing?
BTW, if I have to flash anyways, do I need to setup a fat32 partition or can I format the entire card as ext4 (i don't use windows on my pc)
Without flash your applications may not work correctly but you can try.
I think just ext4 will not be enough because how are you going to transfer files and folder which needs fat32?
Your current ROM will have automatically put files in your sd card which got destroyed by accidental format.
So i seem to have hit a wall here when trying to get a new Whiskey rom... Currently running standard bonix, but looking to get a bit better battery life. Here is the issue.
When I get into clockwork recovery, And I go to install from SD card.... It actually shows the internal memory, and has a folder called "SD" but for some reason it never allows me to select it. It just goes back to the main folder. The log shows its trying to load it from /sdcard/sd... seems like its a mounting issue?
Of course my first attempt trying to install not realizing it was internal had write errors, but luckly I FOLLOWED INSTRUCTIONS and got to restore a backup.
Anybody seen this issue or can advise on how to correct it?
Update: just confirmed the issue is infact that Clockwork is mounting the internal storage as the SD Card. Removed the SD card, still getting the same results. Unmounting SD card only results in error msg.
bump.... still looking for suggestions
I don't follow, is the.zip on the internal sdcard/ root (no folder)?
Not sure why your sd card would be involved. What am I missing?
perhaps I am confusing terminology? Is 'sdcard/ root' not the same as the SD Card?
No, root means not in a folder. If your zip is not pasted to sdcard/ that is likely the problem.
Ahh gotcha. I understood concept of root folder, but I missread sdcard/ to be the Expandable SD Card, which it was in the root folder of.
:O *Facepalm*
The other day I had my SD card mounted to USB on my computer and I unplugged it directly without unmounting it. Stupid, I know... it was a mistake.
Since then I have an "sd card damaged" error and I am not able to navigate to the SDcard directory with Root Explorer. It says it's not mounted. If i try to take a photo, it says, to insert an SD card first.
Ive tried quite a few things and haven't been able to correct the error. This includes basically all approaches to formatting the SD card (recovery, etc...)
I currently do not have access to Odin.
any advice?
I bought a micro SD card and i am able to flash from that.
I am not able to save anthing directly on the phone though... web photos, etc... nada. Doesn't want to save to the microSD.
help.
thanks
well i cant explain it but i flashed a ginger bread rom and it's fixed.
i see the directories are differently organized, but still.... odd.
Suddenly I get this error in the notification bar:
Damaged SD Card - SD card is damaged. Try reformatting it.
And the SD card is not mounted. It's the internal one, the USB storage one I guess.
My external SD card works fine and is being mounted.
This is a huge problems since a lot of apps doesn't work when there is no internal SD. Swiftkey can't find it's languange packs, Gallery and many other video/image apps also fail etc.
If I reboot to recovery and to install zip from sdcard, I can see both my internal and external sd card. So recovery seem to be able to mount the internal sd, but android itself does not.
Now, I could format it, but I would like to at least be able to back up before I do, which is a bit of a problem since can't take the card out and use in a card reader and I can't get android to mount and share it either, even though recovery is able to mount the card just fine.
1) Does anybody know why this has happened?
2) Does anybody know how I can backup the contents of the internal sd, even if I can't get android to mount it?
3) Does anybody know how I any other way of fixing this problem?
Thanks in advance!
Rom & Kernel plz? :silly:
Also, Not really sure about this but I have a far reminiscence of having read somewhere that you can actually access your folders through USB from CWM once they are mounted. Please someone confirm this because I may be speaking bull****; otherwise you could try to backup your data from your very same computer.

Flash latest Siyah kernel (if you're on ICS/JB) and then boot to CWM. In mounts&storage mount USB storage and connect pc and phone via usb.

I've been having no trouble with flashing roms from my external sd card. I'm looking to completely wipe my phone (internal and external sd cards) to get a fresh install. I formatted my external sd card (via the phone). I then connected it to my PC, copied over my rom and a wipe tool no problem. My phone reads the SD card fine when it's booted up, can see the rom i've copied over.
When I re-boot into recovery mode with CWM-based Recovery (v6.0.1.4 - siyah), it says "E:can't mount/external_sd/" when I try to find my rom to flash.
I'm wondering if the problem is the siyah thing, it's not the kernal i'm using, if was installed on my phone with a rom I no longer use. That said, it wasn't an issue before I formatted my external SD card.
I've just updated CWM to ClockworkMod Touch 6.0.3.2 which has got rid of the Siyah version. I've also formatted the SD card again as i've read that formatting via the phone changes the file format to something cwm doesn't like. I did it via PC, it's formatted at exfat. Still made no difference, CWM won't read it.
Might be a silly question but did you go into "mounts and storage" I. Cwm and check the external sd card is mounted?

I have tried that. It didn't work, it would give the same error. I have managed to get it to be read in CWM, I downloaded the ROM manager tool, used that to put a partition on the SD card. Then I was able to format the card via CWM. I've not had a chance to put my ROM back on the SD card and retry. One thing is, when I booted up the phone after formatting the card in CWM, the phone shows it as blank or has an unsupported file system, saying it needs to be formatted. I wonder why there is a conflict?
I needed to format the sd card on my pc, it needed to be fat32. All sorted now

If you really want exFAT, try Philz recovery linked in my signature. It is CWM but with loads of great extra features (including exFAT support).
I actually thought that exFAT support meant it can format in exFAT. I find it odd that exFAT is the native format that Samsung uses but CWM doesn't support it.
Personally I use FAT32 myself as my main computer is Linux and exFAT is too microsofty for it to recognise.
I've installed that and re-formatted my SD card into whatever Samsung uses (think it's exfat) as fat32 was making windows explorer slow and crash prone
sup guys am having a problem with my samsung galaxy s3,via E:can't something related to mount format.............i mount for mated ,anyone who know how i can fix it?
