Charging via PC slow - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I tried charging the note via a PC and its charging extremely slow compared to being plugged in to the wall, is that normal? I know the USB port has a limited power output, but I did not know it was THAT slow.

Yes it's normal.... Nothing to see here move along...

Yea , low Mamp out of usb on pc (normally 500ma) and thw wall outlet plug is a 1A plug.

Your talking half the speed and double the charging time of the AC charger

If you have USB 3.0 charge it there, on par with AC charging for me. But my PC doesn't recognize as mass storage when plugged in the 3.0 slot and I have to go to my 2.0 port for file transfer etc.

Pdanet causing phone to not charge?

can anyone confirm that Pdanet or Easytether causes your phone to discharge?
Well, as you are charging from your pc and it charges at a slower rate than the wall, it could be using more power than you put in, resulting in a net loss.

3vo. That is all that needs be said.
Yea, I use easytether, and if I'm on 4G it won't really charge. If I'm plugged into the usb 2.0 port on my laptop, it will charge, but extremely slowly. It's because usb only charges at .5 amp I believe, where as the wall charger outputs 1.0 amps.

S3 USB charging problem

Hi! I'm having issues with my S3 charging via USB using mains. I tried 3rd party cable & original cable, both doesn't seem to work. The screen says its charging but after 30 mins, when went to check, the percentage remains the same. It was only when i switch off the phone that i managed to charge it. Any solution to this?

have you tried other USB ports . or a usb port with more power??

hmm. tried 2 different 3rd party USB power plug.
My experience so far: with standard charger + cable, this thing charges really slowly! An impatient person might even get the impression it's not charging at all. In fact if I use my S3 while connected to the wall (charging!), the battery will actually discharge instead of charge. Bottom line: plug it in over night, and consider buying extra batteries.
What's wrong with original cable? I'm using my portable hdd microusb cable, works well plugged into Xbox for charging

Mine charge pretty quickly (standard charger + USB cable)
But it does charge slowly if i use USB cable to my PC or laptop
Charging from a PC USB port not designed for charging will be slow as you aren't really getting all the juice you need. Best thing is to charge from the mains. My charger's fuse went the day I got my phone. As luck would have it, my Xperia X10 charger works just fine. So I now use that instead.
I experience almost impossible charging via anyone usb on my PC. I get info from device manager that the running port to my S3 outputs only 96mA, which is quite insufficient for charging. This is the first one smartphone which cannot be charged via USB port. I've had Galaxy Note, Galaxy SII, HTC Desire HD, HD2, etc... everyone is charging quite well from the usb ports... It's annoying...
S3 USB Charging Problem
I still haven't seen an answer here about the issue with S3 Charging via USB.
Mine is charging VERY slowly and it's infuriating. My HTC Desire S charges Via USB fine.
How can I find an official answer/fix from Samsung?
Charging problem should be related to kernel problem. I also encounter this issue before, but after i flashed Persues kernel then the problem fixed.

Sounds plausible. So how do I do that?

HDTV Adapter phone charging issues

Bought one of the 3FHUBEG HDTV adapters today to mirror my S3 onto my tv. According to the guide i should plug the official charger into the adapter and then plug the charger into the wall. When i do this i get NOTHING on my tv screen and the phone will not charge. I thought the adapter was DOA so after trying many things i removed the wall charger and instead i plugged the usb into my pc and voila it worked and the phone started charging and the S3 mirrored onto my tv.
It seems to be working okay this way but why isnt it working when i plug the usb end of the charging cable into the uk plug adapter and then connect it to my socket? Would i be doing any damage by just powering it via usb on the tv?
Im really confused. I charge my phone normally overnight and it works no problem with the usb charging lead plugged into the wall socket and then the micro usb into the phone but for some strange reason the phone will not power the HDTV adapter this way and will only work by USB power and not mains power. Any help appreciated. :good:
Check your cable first, some of them have 4 pins only and this can be a reason. If not, I'm not sure but wall charger have 1A output and this can be too much for adapter. USB output is 550mA so nearly half of it. Charging from USB won't damage anything, it'll only take longer to charge your phone.

It's definately a 5 pin and its an official cable. I'm just concerned as every video i've seen etc shows the charger being plugged into the wall. When i was charging it via usb, as its a slower charge, the phone seemed to be losing more power using the HDTV adapter than the charge was capable of charging, i.e the phone battery was draining power quicker than the USB could charge it. Absolute mystery.
Hmmm, maybe it's just so badly made...

I've never owned a wireless charger. But from what I saw from looking in the forum for my nexus 5. They take much longer to charger. In fact it goes usb 3.0 (fastest now) at like 1 1/2 hours or so, then micro USB at like (3 hours), then wireless charging supposed to take double the time of micro USB. It more for over night use not a quick charge. Hope it helps

With the included AC adapter, the S5 can charge at up to 2.1 amps or so. USB 3.0 maxes out at 1.0 amp, and wireless chargers are about 0.7 amp. The slowest is really USB 2.0, which is only like 0.45 amp.

A good and essentially correct summary. But there are exceptions and cavets.
While most USB 2 ports are rated at ~ 0.5A it varies and newer notebooks in particular may have USB 2 ports capable of 1A +.
Most AC adapters (aka travel adapters ) are typically, either 0.7 or 1A. But a decent full size AC adapter will be ~ 2A.
Also note that the phone will limit it's current draw when using a standard data cable so as not to overtax an USB port. To maintain a maximal charging rate when connected to a high capacity USB 2 port or USB jack on an AC adapter, a "charging" or power cable should be used. A charging cable has the two data lines shorted, to let the phone know that you are (ostensibly) connected to a high current source, rather than a standard USB 2 port.
And wireless chargers vary substantially in maximum output current from ~ 0.3 to ~ 0.9A. Most are also sensitive to ideal positioning. A randomly placed phone may charge at a substantially reduced rate, due to the reduced coupling efficiency of a random orientation.

So if I plug my wireless charger into the white plug in adaptor that came on the charger that came with my Gs5 new that would give me maximum output voltage to my wireless charger?please correct me if Im wrong. Thanks In advance!!!

Charging problem

Recently my phone started charging slow with my charger so I tried plugging it to my laptop it charged faster but still slow when I go to ampere and the phone is plugged into Ac charger it tells me that it's a Usb charger. When I plug my phone to my laptop ampere tells me that the max usb current is 500ma but when I plug it into the charger it tells me that the max current is 100ma. And yes I've tried many different chargers and cables.
And u remove the dust in the usb port?
