Hi all, as the thread title says... for some reason, my x10mini keeps on restarting my router at my paren't place and also the router at my home... the router i have at home is a Cisco router so it's a well known brand, so i assumed.
It's annoying because the rest of the family loses internet and when my bro is in a game he gets disconnected causing huge wars between family members
I've been having this issue for ages now, with all the ROMs that i've used starting from stock before root was possible until now where at this moment i'm using NobodyAtall's MiniCM6-1.0.0-RC2 but like i said it's been happening for months now with all the ROMs.
Is anybody else having the same issue or maybe have a possible solution for me?
I've been having the same problem, not with my android phone though. When for example, download at max speed on my computer via the wifi, it would randomly reboot.
I googled for like 2-3 weeks until i got a really nice answer. Changing the broadcast channel on the router to 1. Try that and get back to me!
It's weird i guess, but my other computer, when downloading at max speed, it wont reboot the router. So it sure is devices communicating with the device differently or something.
Not really into networking, but hope it helps!
Edit: won't hurt trying!
Thanks, going to try it out and see how it goes. I'll post soon with hopefully a good result
Nope, doesn't make a difference - I've changed the wireless channel to 1 and tried again and still, the router resets itself...
Any other ideas?
Buy new router.

Happens to my router at home as well as my parent's... so it would be way too much of a coincidence if it was both that were faulty.
if both are the same router check their firmware if they have the same update your routers firmware. or update firmware on your router first and check whether the problem is solved

My router D-Link DIR-655 with Firmware 1.21 have the same problem too.
So i guess buying a new router could be the only option until Android fix this issue.
I may have found a fix for it - not ideal but it's working. I've disabled WAP/WEP security and have activated MAC address control and have allowed for my phone's MAC address to connect to the network.
Since making the change, i haven't had a single router restart.
What an absolute schlepp to add the MAC address every time i want a wireless device to connect but it's working.
Hope this helps.
If your router is Cisco Linksys, use dd-wrt firmware on it. I have both e2000 and 610n and both have uptime of months with lots of devices connected..

Has anyone experienced a continuous connect, get IP, disconect, connect, get ip disconnect...
It's impossible to download anything if the Nook is disconnecting and connecting once every 3 secs....
Anyone had this problem as well?
Thanks,

Authentication failure?
That usually is the symptom of authentication failure:
Password or passprhase.
MAC lockout on the router (does your router block non-listed MAC addresses?).
Sadly, useful messages on authentication failures are not specific (for security reasons).

Hi,
Unfortunately, I do get an IP...and am able to start browsing, downloading stuff....etc...but after a couple of secs...the NT just goes crazy and enters this connect/disconnect loop....
I have even changed the WiFi protection from WPA2 into WEP,, changed router channel....changed from N into G....
Same problem always....get no problems with my laptops...
I have the router configured with DHCP enabled, so no static IP addresses defined...
Hi there,
I had some issue like that a year ago. All i had to do was to remove/forget all my favorite wifi networks and then add the one which caused my issue again.
Hi..
Don't know if this might help you...seems quite a problem on:
bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com/t5/NOOK-Tablet-Support
Look for the Thread...won-t-stay-connected-to-my-wi-fi/m-
You already tried different channels, etc, so sounds like a router/client compatibility problem. Just because your laptop connects doesn't mean everything will connect.
Bring Nook to a few places with wifi access and attempt connection. If it can't connect with any, it's a Nook problem, if it connects with some or all, it's your router problem.
If the latter, Google on your router's make & model and apply any firmware update found. Also search on "[router_make] disconnects" to see if there is a reported problem with the router.
As mentioned elsewhere, try setting router to G if currently using N. Some old router still use funky Draft 1.0 N standard. This goes in hand with firmware update suggestion above.
If that doesn't work, try a different router. [To minimize setup work, leave old router in place, and connect new router downlink from old. Disable routing on new to use it as AP only (old one does the routing). Set different channel for the AP, and point your Nook to it.]
If that doesn't work, give up. Return/exchange the Nook, and buy something else.

It's problably a router/NT incompatiblity issue....I have just got a stable WiFi connection at my workplace...but it's an open network which works like a hotspot where you have to use a login/password....
Hum, I have just now realised that I happen to own a NETGEAR DGN1000b router....having just gone to the NetGear's website, it looks like there is a known issue with Blackberry phones as well (I do have a blackberry Storm and get the same connect/disconnect behaviour as I am getting on the NT)...

Cheap f***ing DSL/WiFi router.....I shouldn't expect much more from a router which costs 50EUR, but since the Router provided by TCom got toasted...
I'll try to update the firmware to the latest version (from Sep 2011)...Let's see how it goes...
Thanks again to everyone for having the patience to help me out setting up my NT

Hey, I have just updated the router firmware and that fixed the problem!!!
Both my blackberry and my Nook Tablet are now able to connect and stay connected to the WiFi network!
Thanks for the tup guys!
have a question
I have a WNR2000v1 running 1.2.3.7 and the damn thing does not work with the NT, should I bite the bullet and get a new router? and if so I'd like to stick with NetGear and what would be a good model?

Hi!
As you might have read in on omy previous thread posts, I was only able to solve my problem (and ended up solving my blacberry connections issues as well) with a firmware upgrade on my netgear router..did you look for you model on Netgear's website? Did you check the known issues list? My problem had to do with the fact that the router could not handle properly authentication methods used by blabkberry models...
That was what they claimed to have fixed....so I gave it a shot just to make sure that I would't have to buy a new router...

Like I said, I have the WNR2000v1 which is like a 2009 model, I have the latest update available (as of September of 2010) and i have tried everything like setting it to 54mbs maximum and it has yet to work.
Edit-So I went to Best Buy and bought the WNDR3400 and it works flawlessly out of box, guess the new N protocol (which was my sneaking suspicion) is what the NT runs on, good thing too because my mom would have freaked if she couldn't have downloaded her new books on her christmas present. Thanks for all the help man.

Well problem solved with buying a new router then.
So you did have the latest firmware on the router as listed in here:
http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/11895
The KB on the Netgear's website (http://support.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/2614) also mentioned some sort of incompatibility with BB which could be extended also to Nooks, I guess...
Well, you can always get some money back by selling your old router on eBay...
Cheers,

I was wondering if anyone else has had problems with this encryption type? I usually run with no encryption and don't broadcast my ssid but since my Fios router went out the new one requires it. It seems to stay connected for about 5 to 10 minutes then pages stop loading.. I don't seem to have this issue on wep .... my laptop and Droid razr don't seem to have this problem. I am using the actiontec rev I which is the newest router Verizon offers.

I am using WPA2 on my TFP no issues. I came from WEP to WPA2 after reading some info about how WEP can stunk speed.
Really weird....ill try wep at my house... maybe ill call Verizon to see if I can disable encryption all together. Wep at work runs pretty well.

Ugh... if I take off wpa2 I can't get wireless n speeds so my speed test goes down to 23mbs which is a waste of my service (35/35) so I'm not sure what to do. I can't even stream video to my TV which is one of the biggest things we do with the tablet.
I found out that you can disable encryption but its ass backwards. I have to switch to wep then turn off wep. Seems like its made so its really hard to turn off lol.

Don't you mean TKIP?
had the same problem connecting to a dlink router but then i changed it to...
Security Mode : wpa2
Cipher Type : aes
PSK / EAP : psk
everything running perfect
try wpa2 cypher type auto
Firstly, hiding your SSID does not add much security. It will stop any opportunistic neighbours from connecting, but any IT brain can find your SSID in a flash (and intercept all your non-encrypted traffic). WEP is also useless, it takes 2 minutes for someone with a Linux laptop to work out your passphrase with the right tools.
WPA2 should not slow speeds significantly. You should always use WPA2/PSK for personal use. You can always try WPA too as that is just as secure as WPA2. If the speed is not adequate, check that no neighbours are on the same or adjacent channels (using android WiFi analyzer). If you have the router option try 40MHz channels for higher speeds. My Prime works fine on WPA2/PSK.
Lastly, try setting a static IP address. Honeycomb 3.2 had issues with picking up DHCP addresses in some cases (that caused frequent connection drops). I thought it had been fixed in ICS but worth a try.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
Well I now know that it is not the security as the same thing happens when I use wep or unsecured. It happens on two different access points. Weird thing is when it works it just a tad bit slower than my laptop (not a bad thing) but it can not hold a stable connection. I will try a new one on Monday. Decided just to order a brand new one and take this one back.

While we're on the subject , anyone with a wireless router should be checking that Wifi Protected Setup is disabled. Google WPS vulnerability and read how it affects your router. Some routers will report it off while leaving the interface enabled, leaving you vulnerable to a relatively easy brute force attack. On most wireless routers made after 06, this "feature " is enabled by default.
Oh, and to the guy running with security disabled, where do you live? I wanna download some child pornography and score a few account passwords...just looking for a friendly, open wifi connection, just like yours.

I live in a neighborhood that has all old people in it lol. I have wpa2 enabled but I tried open as a troubleshooting method. Previously I hid my ssid.

My Internet Connection is Dynamic Ip DHCP
I go to Network Settings and uncheck DNS Relay and my prime wifi connects without a problem ( wpa2+aes )
This sounds familiar. As I mentioned earlier, Honeycomb 3.2 had an issue where it frequently dropped the connection if the dhcp lease was indefinite. I experienced it with the HTC Flyer when it received honeycomb. It mainly affected use with Belkin routers. Did you upgrade to ICS or are you still on honeycomb? Please try a static ip configuration:
- You will need to set a free ip address in your range (likely something like 192.168.1.123),
-set your default gateway as your router's ip address,
- set your dns gateway 1 to whatever your isp dictates (or you can point to your router as a relay or use 8.8.8.8 for google dns),
- set the network prefix (subnet mask)to 24 (bit)

My Prime has had decent wifi all along. This morning however I'm having serious issues with it. It shows as being connected to wifi but there is no data transferring. If I do a hard reset I can then get into a browser and access 1 web page. After that it no longer transfers any data and I eventually get a web page not found error message. Same thing for email. I get email on the initial check it does upon booting up but then nothing else. Google Play store does the same thing as well.
I tried doing a factory reset and multiple hard resets but the problem is persisting. This has obviously rendered by Prime completely useless. Anyone else experienced this? Anyone have any ideas?
thanks,
Jeff

Yes.....and it was the router. I had ruled out the router because my Iphone was showing as being on wifi and it was working fine. But when I went to use my laptop I had the same problem. Reset the router and all is good. Not sure why my Iphone was unaffected but at least it's fixed.

I had a wierd issue to and read in a post to change the wifi security level. Initially mine was on WEP, then i started to have issues a few months later. it just wouldnt stay connected (kind of like yours). I changed it to wpa2 and so far it has had a steady connection. Wouldnt hurt to give that a shot.

I'm already using WPA2 and have had NO problems at all until yesterday. However, since my laptop was also having problems I would say that it was my router and not the Prime that was the problem. Hopefully it doesn't happen again.
On a side note, I had been planning on doing a factory reset for a while and yesterday gave me my excuse to do it. I hadn't done one since I purchased my Prime. It has made a big difference in performance and reducing the number of app crashes. Its a bit of work but definitely worth it.
Jeff
Just wanted to jump in here to give y'all a pro-tip.
You said your wireless was working fine until just the other day when it started to give you problems? Well, the problem may lie in the channel your Wifi is broadcasting on. You may have had a neighbor just move in/just get wireless, they may have their router on "auto" and it changed channels or your router may have changed channels. I would suggest downloading Wifi Analyzer and taking a look at the wireless signals around you. You can then adjust your routers Wifi channel accordingly. You will want to stay on channel 1, 6, or 11 ideally. Also it is good practice to reboot your router occasionally.
Hope this helps. :good:

Second that, except that when I walked around the house with WiFi Analyzer running on my phone I found that the people on either side of me were on Channel 1 both of my routers were on Channel 1 too. So I made one of mine 6 and the other 11. This is also something you have to re-check every once in a while as the neighbors might change theirs.
One other thing I've noticed with my Prime is that it seems to work a lot better if I set the router for N Only or G only - not mixed mode.
Just bought a Xperia tablet Z and am having problems with it remaining connected to my WIFI. It's updated to the latest software release.
Initial connection is good and shows good signal strength and works as normal. Periodically the WIFI then disconnects and shows "authentication problem" against the network and most often needs a manual connect to regain the connection, even though occasionally reconnects by itself after 10-15 seconds.
When the WIFI network disconnects I have to manual reconnect (the error message is "authentication problem" ). Once I have reconnected, the WIFI works OK for a short while (3-10 mins) and then i get the error message again.
If I restart the Xperia the problem goes away for a relatively longer length of time however it soon comes back ( after 30 minutes+).
I have many other devices connected to the WIFI during this period all of which work fine. WIFI analysis shows excellent signal strength - the tablet drops the connection even while two feet away from the router - and good signal to noise ratio. Looks like a bug in the firmware to me.
Any assistance would be good.
Note: there is a very similar thread here Sony mobile forum from which I have copied a lot of the info as I am having exactly the same problem

Look, unfortunately this is a problem that has been dragging from sony tablet s and xperia tablet s (which I have).
What you can do (like me) is to use advanced wifi lock (in google play). That will not disconnect the antenna. It is a temporary solution but it's something.

Just spoke with Sony assistance, they said to return it and ask for replacement. No attempt to debug whatsoever.
Well i used to have this issue, it was very annonying. Definitely the problem was not the tablet it was the router. The problem is that usually all the routers have the channel value set to auto, so if you put it on 9-10, and restart the router, you won't face this again.
I did that and so far the wifi is stable for my tablet, and even my Macbook seems to have a better connection.
I experienced the same problems with both my tablet and phone (XZ). I got better switching the channel in the router. However, now it's solved. The solution came when I got FTTH installed at home and my ISP replaced my router. Since then, no more wifi disconnections. So I guess the problem was in the router.

Same thing here, plus WiFi performance seems to be particulary weak with this tablet in general. I get three "bars" only when I'm right next to the router. When I'm outside on my porch (about 10 meters from the box and two walls inbetween) I get merely one bar and WiFi drops or simply "stalls" after a few minutes. I already set the router to a fixed channel. I have this problem only with the Sony tablet, our other devices (Thinkpad laptop, Iphone 4S, SGSII and SGSIII, iPad 4) all have a perfectly fast and stable connection even in the "porch scenario".
I really hope Sony improves this with the next firmware update! Any hints besides WiFi repeater, which I already ordered?
Just to update my original post, my replacement tablet has been connected for about 20 hrs now and it has dropped the FIFI signal only once (even signal reception is not very strong in comparison to my Samsung Galaxy III phone).
I don't know if it is of any benefit, but I have also installed this app
That's a bulls**t app, has no effect.
I'm in love with this tablet and want to buy it immediately, but this issue is scaring the hell out of me as I mainly use only Wi-Fi to connect to the internet. Are there at least a few of you who have no Wi-Fi connectivity issues at all?

I've had my Tablet Z for about 10 days. In that time I've used it with my WiFi at home and at work ( WiFi tethered to my Nexus 4). In both cases, I've never been more than 3m from the WiFi source. In all that time I think I've dropped the connection only once.
I've watched (streaming with WiFi) a few tv programmes of about 1hr each, and they have played without a problem.
I've just used an app called WiFi analyzer to compare the signal strength on my Nexus 4 with the Tablet Z at different places around my house and the signal strength is the same on the phone and tablet.
So, as far as I can tell, if you've got a decent WiFi signal, you should have no problems.
I've used both CM10.1 and Sony stock ROM (.370) over that period (mostly the Sony ROM).
I've had very similar problem with Mac. I have established the static IP addresses for all my wireless and wired devices and it seemed like it worked but after a while my laptop started losing connection again. I know you might not like my answer but the only solution to this problem is a new router. When I ran d-link WBR-1310, I've had all kind of problems and since I replaced it with Netgear WNR3500 I have not had a lost connection yet. Not even once. 3 different laptops, MacBook, Xperia Tablet Z, bunch of iPhones, iPads and Android phones work like a charm. BTW all my devices have assigned local static IP addresses. Hopefully that will solve your problem.
I have found a possible fix! Please test for yourself whether it works for you and report!
I have disabled the app "Smart Connect". (It's a system app, so it's only possible to disable it via "Titanium Backup" or a similar app on a rooted device.)
Now the WiFi doesn't lose connection anymore when it's weak.

I had issues with this as well, with my ASUS rt-n66u router. However, I was using DDWRT at the time, and swapping back, with mostly default settings, to the stock firmware resolved the issue entirely. I've now not had any drops on either the 5 or 2.4 ghz bands.
has anyone found a concrete reason as to why the tablet either drops the wifi connection or there's the authentication problem?
my tablet was dropping the wifi connection so i changed the router's channel to 9 and it doens't drop the wifi connection after that
however (i dont know if this is related) my tablet turns off the wifi radio when the screen is locked for a longer period of time even when i keep stamina mode off (although i read it only turns off the data connection radio) and i set the wifi radio to always be on even when the screen is locked
also after changing the router's channel to 9, i get the authentication problem ._.
EDIT:
If anyone would be willing to share, what authentication method and encryption are you using for your wireless network? And does your tablet keep a stable connection?
I'm currently using WPA-Personal with TKIP encryption and i come up with both dropped connections and the authentication errors. (trying to diagnose this in hopes of not having to return my device because it's defective)
