Root Doesn't Stay After Updating To .62 - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

i just wanted to get root on .62 so i decided to flash .42 with wotan server and root it, then update .62 withc pc companion, root didnt stay. Tried several times. Help?

update via OTA not PC Companion

just search from one of the threads.. you need to flash rootxperia.zip..then you will have root for your bb

1. Wrong thread.
2. Updating with PC companion implies you're downloading STOCK FIRMWARE. Stock firmware is NOT pre rooted and therefore, no root and stuff. If you want root, try rooting with the methods given here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409269
although, the most convenient and appropriate way to root would be to unlock BL and flash a custom kernel which is pre-rooted. Otherwise, whenever you flash a STOCK FIRMWARE, as the term implies, you well get STOCK stuff..and stock stuff is unrooted.
UNLESS, you flash a custom firmware which is modified and is rooted.

[Info] Firmware 4.0.2.A.0.69 (St17i) and root.

Just for information:
I had 4.0.2.A.0.42 rooted with ZergRush method.
I did the Firmware upgrade from Firmware 4.0.2.A.0.42 to 4.0.2.A.0.69 via OTA.
And the root remains.
That's normal. More interesting would be, how to root build 62.
4.0.2.A.0.62 (St17i) and root
What's interesting there? I has been discussed here a lot.
Before 4.0.2.A.0.69 I had the 4.0.2.A.0.62 with root.
The procedure was same:
Flashed 4.0.2.A.0.42 with flashtool, rooted it with ZergRush method and did OTA Firmware update to 4.0.2.A.0.62. The root remained.
Now, if You try to do this - it's not possible any more - since the OTA gives You the 4.0.2.A.0.69 as the latest firmware. But since the root remains - what's the point of upgrading to 4.0.2.A.0.62 instead of 4.0.2.A.0.69?
Note: If You flash the 4.0.2.A.0.42 with flashtool, You have to do "wipe user data", only then You are able to root it and do the OTA to 4.0.2.A.0.69. Otherwise it will not suceed.
I did the backup with Titanium+root of all applications and settings and later after upgrade I restored with it back all my apps and settings.
Cheers!
I'd tried the rooting but still have not suceed.. been reading a lot and I think its confuse me more. can you point me to a good direction
You have to downgrade to older version, .62 cannot be rooted.
Read my tutorial, it is there, link in signature, it is also sticky in general section.

Rooting
The presumption is, that You have all the drivers installed on the computer.
Drivers will be installed when You install Sony PC Companion or Andoid SDK. Also in Sony developer page can be downloaded.
Then flash the .42 firmware using Sony PC companion and don't forget to do "wipe user data" otherwise rooting will not work.
Then download the Doomlord-Zergrush rooting script and read the rooting instructions.
If You have successfully rooted the .42 firmware on Your phone, then do software update OTA (Over the Air).
That's it! You have rooted .69 firmware on Your phone.

Sony Ericsson WT19i Newbie here

Hello there,
To start off, I am new to Android system but now, I am comfortable at using it.
My Device: Sony Ericsson WT19i
Firmware Version: 4.0.2.A.0.58
Root Status: Rooted
Did some googling on how to root phone, and successfully rooted my phone and same time found out that .62 version of my phone's firmware is not rootable so stayed positively there for a month.
Now seeing other users CM7, CM9, CWM(ClockWorkMod) and other stuff which I don't even know made me crazy to test them out too. Besides, sony's stock rom is getting on my nerves.
So, what do I do now? Could anyone direct me on
1. Updating to .62 and still be able to root.
2. Custom Mods? How?
A big thank you for going through this.
Regards,
GaNi
first unlock your bootloader and flash custom kernel..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560613
Doing OTA update on your phone will keep root. It means, if you have .58 firmware and root, and you do update via 3G or Wifi on your phone to .62, root stays the same.
For custom mods, you should first get familiar, what is ROM, kernel, what these do. Then it will be easier for you.
As for custom ROM, you will need custom kernel, which will require unlocked bootloader, which can be done via official method on Sony website, or via test point method(S1Tool). Either way you lose your warranty.
Regarding bootloader, look at screenshot please.
Do I still unlock it?
@someguy
The country which I reside costs a freaking lot for an MB, OTA updates could be my last alternative.
PS: Could we able to set the status back to normal so it doesn't look like it got it's warranty voided?

Yes, you can unlock the bootloader, both ways.
You can later on relock bootloader, then it will appear like this again.
OTA update can be done over WiFi also on your mobile.
Tried to do an OTA. Now it shows my phone is already on the latest software. No idea.
I decided to flash it with STOCK .62 ROM.
Is this ROM good to by flashed with? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560660
Author say's it rooted already. I'll just use a flash tool.
try to unlock bootloader first
Unlock bootloader on .58?
You say if I have .58 rooted phone and make OTA with Wi Fi, my phone will still be rooted. I try that, download update, mobile restart itself, but and the end of process show message "Error, cannot update"
I dont wont to unlock bootloader because I dont need custom kernel, I only need update stock kernel .62.
Thanks for reply.

Custom ROM also requires custom kernel.

is kernel changing with changing rom or it stays until you change it?

I think you need Flashtools to flash a custom kernel (assuming the bootloader is previously unlocked) with ClockWork Mod (CWM) bundled.
After flashing the custom kernel, you reboot into CWM mode (depends on your phone model), erase system memory and install the new ROM (which should be in a .zip file in your SD Card).
Was anyone able to get "Ad Hoc" wpa_suplicant working for Live?

[noob] feralab v20 question?

hey guys, i am using feralab v20 with unlocked bootloader and ferakernel.
if i use seus and do update to 2.3.3 stock (without relocking bootloader), will i lose my ferakernel and recovery? can i still boot up?
i don't think SEUS can even do an update. SEUS won't be able to read software from your phone (Feralab version). thus, it will just prompt you that your phone doesn't need an update.

but, you can still force an update via seus. what will happen then? any idea? pls help
Look. You can flash your phone with SEUS, ofcourse...You don't have to relock bootloader. I can't remember if you will loose Ferakernel, because I did it couple months ago... But if you loose it, you can always flash your kernel again with flastool, and have stock Rom with a kernel and Xrecovery. You must flash kernel for stock rom, so check if Ferakernel is for Stock roms. Also you may try Doomkernel v6 1113 for UB with bootmanager v2.0. If your phone become unrooted you will always be able to gain ROOT with Doom's easy root method.
So, don't be afraid to flash your phone with SEUS, I did it couple of times...

The OTA may or may not work, if it fails then just flash an FTF (with or without data wipe depending on your mood) and then reroot etc

[Q][SOLVED] Possible to go back to stock recovery?

Hey!
I just wanted to know if it's possible to go back to the stock recovery in case I want to sell the phone completely stock. So is it possible?
Yes. If you're running stock fw with root, you should be able to do a repair fw via pc companion. If not, you can easily just flash your original ftf file via flashtool. Take a look in the general section of these z2 forums. All the info is there

I have been in the General section of the Z2 Forums, and I have read about how I can flash the FTF file to my phone, but I didn't know that the FTF includes the stock recovery Currently I have a Z2 with stock fw and a locked bootloader but with root. (Running stil on .314), and I'm planning to update to .167 with a rooted update package. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/4-4-4-creating-rooted-update-package-t2933155)
OK, if you upgrade with that method to 167, I believe pc companion will still repair it back to factory settings (not sure whether it will be 314 or 167). If it doesn't, flashing an ftf will solve your problems.
