Web Browsing Is Terrible Without Root - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

So I lost root with the latest version, as did many people.
And now I hate browsing on this device, 90% of the time I get browser lag with the force close warning. When rooted with the ad blocker everything was so smooth. All the javascripts from the ads slow down the browser, is this the case with ipad too?
Damn I need my root access back.
I never understood why people kept complaining about the slow browser. Now I do.

I will not answer the iPad queston because then I'm a fanboy. Anyway, did you try a different browser like Chrome or Dolphin Browser HD? These are much faster then the default in my experience, Chrome doens't support flash (as far as I know), Dolphin does.

Go in browser setting, advance, uncheck javascript and put plug-ins on demand, close browser including in last use app then go back in. Should improve browsing

Dolphin doesn't always show tabs, it hides them when you scroll down. Current Chrome version is too featureless for normal use

Isn't that a setting in the menu for Dolphin? I believe it is somewhere, but I'm not really sure.

And there is no setting in Dolphin to always show tabs.

Man this crap is getting freaking old!
Why the hell do I have to go into settings, turn this off, enable on demand, etc etc....
This tablet was touted with a quad core chip running 1.4 MHz on performance mode, yada yada...why the hell can't it handle a heavy web page! Wtf!!
My 2 year old HTC Evo....rooted running cm7....is smoother. I can screw up and hit page back, and hit menu then click a bookmark flawlessly ...
But the OP does bring up a great point. I have adfree on my phone and I guess I haven't realized that it makes that much of a difference.
Don't know, maybe its just me, but why do you have to go thru all sorts of settings just to get a smooth internet experience?
Sorry for the rant, I still love the little beast. Just get the browser straight and I might not be scared to recommended the Prime to others....

Using ICS+ browser with adblock, flash and java script enabled all the time and everthing is butter smooth here
This is actually the best browsing experience ever. Especially with the keyboard dock and the addition of the Overskreen floating browser i prefer it to my desktop most of the time! I dont even start it up anymore unless i need it for my music progs or gaming. Its just PEWPEW!
Also in iCS+ you can set back and forward to screen swipes and that also works with the touchpad. Its so cool to just swipe around and control everything that way toghether with the keyboard shortcuts.

yeah adblocker or ad free makes a world of difference. you could also enable the force gpu rendering in developer options in settings to speed things up.
ill answer the other question since Joey didn't..lol. Ipad browsing is decent but not nearly as good as its made out to be. plus Ipad doesn't even support flash so its not loading up the ads. its as if it runs browser with adblocker on. stock safari browser sux. you can get a good 3rd. party one like Icab or Atomic browser on Ipad and do well. but really all 3rd party Ipad browsers aren't true 3rd party ones. 99% of them are based off of Safari or have sacrifice engine as the core of it. but my prime is way faster and smoother than my Ipad. as far as web browsing and scrolling lag free. my Ipad can't even touch my prime no matter what its doing.
I have my prime on 1Ghz top speed and using opera Mobile. the web pages still load near instant and experiencing no lag at all scrolling. I am rooted and have adfree on. plus I forced gpu rendering. I'm truly amazed how well this tablet performs even having 1Ghz as my top speed. can't even tell the difference hardly cuz everything so fast and fluid.

Leave java on then guarantee most of the lag is from waiting for all the flash to load set to on demand you can still view them just hit the down arrow of the vid you want to view. Far from broken web Haven't seen the wait window since I changed my setting and I always run on performance

yeah i made a thread about losing root and how much it sucks not having adfree yeseterday. it SUCKS. the thing is i doubt there is the urgency to find a new root method there was at the beginning either because so many have root still.
is there even away to gain root access if i unlock? i don't even think there is a stock rooted .21 custom rom out to load anyways and from what i've read all the other custom roms don't play well with the keyboard.

All broken without javascript.

javascript has been an intricate part of the web since the Netscape Navigator browser, practically every browser since Netscape have relied on javascript, not to be confused with Sun/Oracle Java . Turning off javascript in a browser would be like turning image viewing, you're going to end up with a crappy web browsing experience.
Google and ASUS not being able to address this is a shame.

With the last update... Asus finally fixed the Screen tearing and flickering that made the Prime look like an amateur programmed it. I'm annoyed that the browser lag is still there under normal use if I keep javascript on. Like others have said, an end user should not have to disable and tweak a bunch of stuff just to get decent performance. Constantly turning javascript on and off depending on the site is pretty annoying and does not make for an enjoyable browsing experience. It also doesn't seem to help the PULSE news app at all.
While I love my Prime, it's pretty sad to see my HP Touchpad absolutely destroying it when comparing the two at web browsing. The Touchpad on an alpha release of CM9 seriously blows the Prime away on the stock browser... Never had a wait message pop up while surfing even heavy pages...it just works. I can't even scroll right away on the Prime while the page is loading. I have to either wait for some elements to load or for the dreaded Wait/Ok to pop up. On my Touchpad or ipad 2..this issue is nonexistent.
I hope that this is the next priority on Asus list. User experience is an important thing...and a laggy browser and screen tearing should never have made it past quality control.
Now, I don't want to be all negative, so I will say that one of my test sites always runs best on the Prime stock browser, and that is:
http://www.pirateslovedaisies.com/
This site won't even finish loading on an ipad 2 (don't know about the 3) and runs slower on the Touchpad with CM9 (and not at all on Web OS) so at least we know the Prime is decent with complex HTML5 in some cases.

Hey, I'll take a little credit for the Touchpad running well despite inferior hardware. =P
I've been meaning to get CM9 on my Transformer Prime to see how the browser performs there. One thing to note is that I disable the gpu upload path on the Touchpad due to an Adreno driver bug. I'm curious to see if that has any affect on the performance on Transformer Prime. If you'd like to try it for yourself then go to about:debug in the browser. Then go to settings->debug and check Enable CPU Upload Path. This is only a temporary switch and will go away when you close the browser but worth testing as a shot in the dark.
I do generally agree that the stock browser performs better on the Touchpad with its dual core running at 1.2ghz. Tegra 3's cortex-a9 should be about 10-20% faster than the Snapdragon CPU in the Touchpad clock for clock.

So how does browsing on the current version of CM9 preform, anyone who's installed please give your impressions.
Or any other custom roms any better?

Awesome job on the Touchpad port. It's absolutely amazing as a tech enthusiast to be able to witness the amazing work done by people like yourself.
I went ahead and tried your solution and it's a vast improvement on the stock browser. I've only seen the wait/cancel pop up once and that was stress testing it with 6 tabs open on heavy sites. It has not done it again and it's been about 2 hours playing around with the TFP. What exactly does that setting do? Maybe it can be set to permanent on ICS browser+.

What adblocking app do you all prefer?

Stock browser vs Maxthon

Hey,
So.. I just recently got my hands on the prime and was trying out different browsers.
I've just found out that Maxthon created a tablet version browser and was fairly impressed with it however, I'm experiencing issues with sites that plays videos, e.g. desktop youtube site, it causes issues when you try to fullscreen the video and the connection of the browser just completely cuts off.
Either than that, everything works great and beautifully to I must say. A definite much more attractive and in someways, faster UI and browser in my opinion.
What are your opinions? and if your experiencing the same issue as me, are there any fix available to get around this issue?
Cheers!

I used the maxthon and found it quite useful at first. Its smoother than the stock browser. I have not try the youtube on maxthon yet about the fullscreen but when i tried to select text on a web page it will force close itself. Other than that maxthon has been pretty good for me.
I've tried just about every browser Android has to offer to find the best and I'm just spoiled from using Firefox on Windows 7 everyday, nothing Android has can touch it.
After trying everything I think I'm going with Maxthon, just wish they had more add-ons. Really want something like Ad-block Plus.
my browser of choice is opera mobile. but I do have Maxon. also. I do have to admit its the best looking out of all the browsers. its hard to describe but everything is rendered so well on it. Damn, can't describe it in words but its a real beautiful looking browser. All sites look so good on it. its a good browser. it has alot of potential. Still not a true tablet version though because it still has resoulution capability checkbox on the bottom. its more of an in-between version. still looks great. makes me wanna switch to it now...Brb..lol
Thanks for the great feedback guys.
In my opinion, for general browsing, Maxthon is probably one of the best as one of you had say, it really is smooth and everything is just rendered so well!
However, due to the common sites that I browse.. e.g. facebook for instance, when on the desktop site with Maxthon, and you're trying to view pictures, when the photo pops up infront of the news feed, it cancels the capability to scroll up and down to view the comments, instead it scrolls up and down the background which is the news feed.
And another disappointment is still the full screen capability of videos.
But either than, really happy with it.
However, I tried doing a comparison with sites and loading time, and trying to quickly clicking from one link to another with the stock and maxthon, both seemed almost equally matched.
the stock browser on the ICS of the prime does work really great but... it may be the look of the Maxthon that has won me over. But I still switch from one browser to another depending on my purpose.
Personally I'm a huge fan of Dolphin Browser HD. I use it on my Skyrocket and downloaded it last night on my Prime. So far so good!

I use to play with other browsers but since ICS came out it has been the smoothest browser of them all, uninstalled all the others.
After ICS I uninstalled all other browsers. Stock one is great.
I really like stock browser too, I just wish there was a way to keep it in desktop mode by default. That's the only thing that really bothers me about the stock browser.
That's the reason I'm using ICS Browser+. Its the same browser as the stock one but with the added bonus of selecting a user agent so it can remain in desktop mode along with some other goodies.
I really suggest it to anyone who likes the stock browser but wants a little more out of it. As a plus the developer is a part of this forum and is open to suggestions on new features.

Official Browser thread...

Can someone make this a sticky?
Since I've used my tablet, the one program/app I've kept switching and going back and forth has been the browser. Some do things well, while others do things just ok. I'd like to create this thread to list all browsers that work with the Transformer Prime tablet and list their strengths and weakness. This of course will be a "live" list and hopefully keep growing and be a good resource for lots of people. I just thought it would help. Since I'm no expert at all, I could at least start off with listing some of the browsers I use. Also, if this isn't even needed, let me know. No big deal.

I've been using Stock, Opera, and Dolphin HD, and so far I think I like Dolphin HD...
Dolphin HD just seems faster... could be mind tricks, but it does seem to load faster.
Opera, it's fast but I'm not used to the UI and don't really like it.
I love the stock "look" and the favorites button in the top right corner. If only I could combine Dolphin HD and the stock browser
*Edit*
Hmmm, guess it was false news? Can't seem to get it to work anymore atm... Crap.
Ive used Stock, Dolphin HD, Opera, and Boat Browser. I can say with full confidence that the Boat Browswer has been the best browsing experience. I've used this for 3 days now zero fc or locks and smoother/faster than any other ones ive tried and has full flash support.
Damn... I just updated opera and flash still isnt working for me. I'm using dolpin untill i can get flash to work with opera. Never tried boat. Might look into it.

Yeah it says in change log log of opera that flash has issues with ICS 4.0.3. This new update took a step backwards as flash is not even in settings anymore. Of you go to a site that has flash, it'll say you need to install flash n enable Java.

Yeah, noticed the lack of flash settings as well...
But I think that when I go to youtube.com, click a flash video it opens in the youtube app but when I press back it goes back to opera and does play the video in the browser... Must check if I can reproduce it.
Amazing though that the opera team still hasn't got this working yet, insane actually.
I've tried stock, xscope and after that I was worried that I wouldn't be able to do the type of browsing I do on my laptop (speed wise)
Then I tried dolphin HD. It has a 'desktop / tablet mode ' that optimizes it for tablet size and unlocks more functionality.
Overall it looks nice and has good features it, but I promise you the only reason I use it is because it simply loads all my pages faster -never cannot view a page (which I would get random pages show as unavailable with stock despite knowing for a fact they work on other browsers) . Also It does not lock up nearly as much as stock did with the old wait or force close window (which upon hitting wait lead to complete functionality again dope)
Finding it hard to figure out a way to update the original post. I would love others to be able to input their own information, which makes it a real "live" document. Like sharepoint folks.
That's why I chose to use Google Docs, lol

Guys, I have a problem. I've been messing around in Titanium Backup deleting bloat and I accidentally uninstalled the stock browser. I made backup, of course, but when I tried restoring it, it just went on working forever.
I've tried restarting the tablet, I've even done a factory reset but it didn't help. The browser is missing from my app drawer and the bookmarks widgets are not working.
I've checked the system/app folder with Root Explorer. The file named com.android.browser.apk is still there but there is no .odex file. Should there be one? I tried reinstalling the app from this apk but it doesn't work.
Any ideas what else I can try? Also, I'll be extremely grateful if someone can provide any browser related apk and odex files.
EDIT: I've solved it. I've got the deodexed Browser.apk from this thread, placed it in the system/app folder and restarted. It works now.
BTW, the ICS Browser+ does not work without the stock browser.
That belongs in it's own thread or broadcast in an IRC channel, you could also just use ICS Browser+.

Can't go wrong with boat IMO. Have been an opera user on my phones for a long time. Having never heard of boat browser I gave it a go on my prime and found it blows every other android browser out of the water. I enabled the desktop user agent and since have not even felt the need to try any other browser. In fact, boat is now on my phone also, its that good. Also looks much better than opera which I always thought was ugly but couldn't give it up due to its superior smoothness.
Anyways, until a real chrome browser is available for android (still dumbfounded it isn't, ffs Google!) I don't see myself replacing boat.

Chrome (beta) For ICS Released

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.android.chrome&rdid=com.android.chrome&rdot=1&pli=1
I'll try it out tonight when I get home.
Could someone check if extensions work? That would be awesome. (I'm still on 3.2 because I have TF101.)
edit: and how Google Docs work.
Not available in Ireland (Europe?) yet unfortunately!
Finally. Really hope that this will be a good browser that can take advantage of the hardware.
Was a little disappointed in how Primes browser speed and stability was with the stock browser.
Here the apk for us that don't live in the "right" country for the beta.

It is a Beta, so it's pretty unstable, from what I've seen so far. Also, there is no way that I can see to change to use agent to Desktop, which is pretty annoying.
Yeah, I wish there was a way to access the desktop version of pages. Either way I have been waiting for this since I switched to android. Yes its beta but I can't wait to see where Google takes this. Sucks I can't get it on my Skyrocket where mobile view would be better suited.

Ok, I installed it and here are my first impressions:
Good
- Bookmarks and stuff are synced at first-run
- URL bar is QUICK at giving search results and URL results.
- Switching tabs is instantaneous
- When there's lots of links close together and you try and touch one, it'll pop-up a zoomed window so you can accurately tap the right link. Cool! (tried it on news.bbc.co.uk)
Bad
- Pages don't load super quick and panning while loading is jittery
-- Once they're loaded is pleasurably smooth.
---Sometimes when panning heavier pages (like engadget.com) it will take a couple seconds to load tiles, so you'll have white parts of page.
- No way to set User Agent (at least not from my few minutes of poking around)
- Can't play flash videos (tried on news.bbc.co.uk)
That's what I got so far. Gotta get back to work!

I tried it, it keeps rerouting me to chrome://debug/, and then saying "this webpage is not available.
Won't use as default until someone discovers how to change the User agent, which I'm sure won't take long. Maybe Chrome Browser + will be released by the guy who made the ICS + browser? However, I love the tab interface, and it has been running very smooth for me thus far. It is indeed faster than the stock browser. At first scrolling can bug and make everything on the screen disappear, but eventually it scrolls very smoothly and fast. is silky smooth and hasn't been jittery or freezing for me yet, and omnibar is fast to populate.
Definitely a huge improvement! Love it!
Veddy Nice
Installed immediately. Was coming here to post about it, and 9 replied already. I love this community!
Agreed with everyone so far, it doesn't do Desktop for user agent, which is a PITA, but it should be figured out soon. Another CON I noticed is that I can't login to facebook for some reason.
I hate android's facebook app on the prime. It sucks. But when I enter my password, the page resets while entering a capital B. Shift B on the hardware keyboard seems to be refreshing the page, even in the password field. I can enter a capital "L", but my password doesn't contain any Ls

Now GNex on ICS with Chrome.
Asus TFP ICS Stock Browser.
Asus TFP ICS Chrome Browser.
We can see that on tegra 3 there isnt much of a improvement according to the benchmark. But on the GNex there were HUGE improvements.
I don't see any option to install Extensions??? "Sorry, your operating system is not supported just yet".
and no Flash
By far the most promising browser. I have tried just about all of them and they all have their good points. I know we have the user agent options in most browsers but to be honest i'd just like a desktop browser on the prime and forget about the mobile sites.
I use chrome all the time so if we can have chrome on android that's definitely the way I will go.

The code will be added to Chromium. Google already said that. So we might see some great browsers soon!
Until they make the same pop out side controller the stock browser has - Quick Controls - I will not use.
No Flash support, but I don't care 1 bit about that.
Chrome is not open source project. No1 will make version "+" of Chrome browser. Maybe in future google will release menu with browser agents.
No flash support - adobe said that will not release flash for chrome. Rest of browsers will be supported by adobe. http://www.androidcentral.com/new-browser-chrome-doesnt-support-dying-plug-flash
JAVA support !!
Imba bookmarks sync.
Fast but when will load full page.
Gmail, maps and others woorks good in browser.
No lag text input.
U can move position tabs by drag and drop like in PC chrome.
Not smooth like stock ICS browser.

P.S. how do you embed videos? The youtube video button doesn't seem to work.

Why is web browsing laggy on my Prime, but ridiculously smooth on my Nexus?

Sometimes when I fling a page down like Engadget, the scrolling seems smooth until it slows down and lags for a couple frames before stopping. Is there anyway to stop this? I have flash content turned off. The same page on my Nexus just seems so much smoother. I figured a Tegra 3 would be able to handle web page rendering a bit better.
The same thing happens for Nova Launcher, when I hit the apps drawer button, sometimes my Prime will be a little choppy rendering my apps. On my Nexus, it's always super smooth.
I'm running Jermaine's AOKP build, but it happens on any ROM I've tried to flash. Is there any particular reason why this is happening?

I wonder the same thing. I use AOKP on my droid Razr and it runs like a champ (and we aren't even using an ICS kernel yet LMAO!) but I have similar issues on my prime, even clocked at 4x1.8ghz.

Yeah, I don't think it should be necessary to overclock a quad-core Tegra 3 to 1.8Ghz just for that. I have my max clock set at 1.3Ghz, or 1.5Ghz if I'm feeling adventurous
Have you guys tried another other ROM to see if the browsing is better?
I am unable to try that as I am stuck with a locked bootloader (stupid unknown s/n that never got fixed properly in the RMA).
I've seen others complain about Internet browsing and just haven't experienced problems. My only complaint with browsers on the Prime and my GNex for that matter is poor flash performance and being forced to view web pages in mobile mode. I absolutely hate that. The hardware in my GNex and especially this Prime is more than capable of rendering full HTML. This tablet is faster than my daughters Netbook and faster than one of my laptops. I wish Google and developers would get with the program and deliver a full browser experience. I've been using Dolphin with my Prime and it seems to be the better browser I've tried so far. I can at least set it up so that it operates in "desktop mode" giving me full HTML browsing; however, it's still not as good as it should be. I like Chrome. I wish Google would give us tablet users the full Chrome experience. There's no reason not to have the full and complete browser at our disposal.

I'm beginning to think it is the Tegra 3/Nvidia optimizations. Not a good example but the HTC One X sure has a lot of browser issues.
Even though it doesn't have flash, Safari on the iphone/ipads sure are fast considering its many cores and mhz down. Software can make a big difference.

Saw this over on the One X forum. http://eu.blizzard.com/en-gb/
The fire in Diablo ad is smooth on my exynos Galaxy S2 while its slow mo on the Prime. Just like phonearena's video of the Galaxy Nexus(fast) vs One X(slow).

Is this something that can be fixed in future updates from Asus since they're the ones with access to the proper Tegra 3 drivers?
opera mobile solved all previous browser issues for me. smooth & fluid as a mofo. plays flash with no problems. loads pages the fastest. lag free scrolling. And all of this is on stock 1.2Ghz
It's not so bad for me. This is engadget full site. Taken with my phone camera so not the greatest and shows distortion and choppiness while recording. Overall very smooth browsing.

I would tend to agree with you but Opera has been crashing on me. I'll be browsing then bam....crash lol.Pisses me off. Also has problems running YouTube videos all the way thru too.I even uninstalled & reinstalled but no dice.It does load pages insanely fast though.

well, the reason for lag isn't the Prime or the browser. it is ics 4.03. memory intensive tasks like javascript are performed in the main thread rather then in several threads in the background. running in the main thread in the foreground (i think single core) means it locks up your machine. the other processes have to wait until the one foreground process is done. and it doesn't help the prime that its internal memory/sd card is rather slow (cheap).
---------- Post added at 07:45 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:42 AM ----------
running opera mobile with page rendering on a server means you skip the javascript handling on your device. that is why opera is / looks faster. I think Sony's engineers have solved the problem on their machines and I think it will be solved in ics 4.04

Could be the browser, have you tried other browsers instead of the stock one?
I found that on previous versions (.21 seems better) if i had too many icons on my homescreens scrolling between screens was slow, different launchers were faster.
The same way you can notice a difference running chrome and IE on a desktop you can notice differences in different apps on android. Its just a matter of finding ones that work how you want. Maybe nova launcher isnt for you, have you tried others? Maybe in your custom rom they tweaked something, maybe more adjustments need to be made.
You can't compare your Nexus and your Prime, they are two different beasts. One is a motorcycle and one is a car. Different processors, different GPU's, different screen sizes, Different browsers, differen launchers, hell even different versions of ICS. Yes they both run the same apps, and run genereally the same way, but they are very very different.

I'm talking about opera mobile, not opera mini. opera mini is the one sent through severs and compressed in all that to be extra fast. Opera mini is a stripped down non flash version of opera mobile. I run opera mobile with flash on and still does everything fast. I don't cut on the Turbo mode or anything so its the straight browser working. Regardless, for me, its by far the best. I hardly ever run into sites it doesn't display properly. I have like 6 of the top browsers. no matter how many times I switch to compare, opera mobile comes out on top.
So even if its true that opera servers handle page rendering. more kudos to them. less work for my prime to do and is probably a factor into why opera mobile also uses the least amount of battery out of all the ones I have. plus opera mobile is the only browser to let you upload files and pix from it. when downloading or uploading through it, its the only one that brings up a mini file explorer to let you choose which folder you want to save to. Im not talking about others where you have to go thru settings and choose a folder and every time it downloads to that folder. opera mobile brings up a file explorer that you can choose whatever folder you want for each individual download or upload. Plus opera mobile is the only browser that doesn't hang on huge downloads or mess them up by improperly labeling them. I've downloaded plenty of big movie and rom files(FPse) with no issue.
IMO, no browser is touching Opera mobile right now. they definitely know what their doing when it comes to making a great browser. I rarely get any pop up messages telling me to wait or crashing.

Funny, but when I continuously scroll page, or scroll with right bar – no lag or freeze. When i use standard finger swipe scrolling with timeouts (1 sec more than enough) - every new swipe starts with lag. I think cpu is drop down to sleep phase in browser somehow.

Ditto. Finger scroll is so stuttery for me as if I'm running single core.

when i try opera mobile i always get a very stuttered scroll. is there a way to get rid of that? it loads the page fast and so forth, but the scrolling just sucks.
I have no problems of this kind. Browsing is very smooth for me, I used to have those lock ups, but it seems Boat browser solved my problems. I'm stock and I have forced 2d acceleration enabled.

Firefox instead of Chrome, what was I thinking

I have only had the prime for about a month now. I have been using firefox the entire time. Installed it day one. I got fed up with how slowly it was rendering pages and finishing page loads on the prime. ESPECIALLY this site. Unreal. The loading circle just spun forever.
Tonight I put chrome on and realized what an idiot I had been choosing firefox in the first place. A google OS should run a google browser
Page loads complete quickly, and the browser is performing so much better than FF I just can't believe it. I was thinking of giving up on tablets for browsing due to the way FF was performing.
If you havent run chrome on here, and yes maybe I am the last to think of this, but please do try it.
Chrome on JB ROCKS!!

sadly I think they both suck on prime. Default browser works best, is compatible with sideloaded flash on jb and if you scroll to the bottom of xda you can choose the xda 2010 option that works much better.
Chrome lags like crazy on my prime with JB. It performed better on ICS. Stock/Dolphin are by far the smoothest for me.
iOn my experience Dolphin Browser Beta Works really well and it is very smooth. I tried Firefox but feels slow...

Talking about Firefox there's AuroraX from the same makers just that this has faster rendering times but all in all I'd go ahead and say that no matter what rom you're on for the Prime, the stock browser would still be the optimal performer
Boat browser all the way
Boat Browser is by far the best. Give it a try
Scrolling on FF is just awful and it can be pretty laggy at times but I put up with it as the only browser I have on here mainly because of Ad-block Plus, syncing with my desktop, ability to restore tabs from last time and it handles flash pretty well. The pros outweigh the cons for me and since there is no perfect browser on Android this is what I'm going with.
The stock one just looks like rebranded chrome. Seriously, same options, same settings just a different skin.

I second that... Tried about every browser nothing comes close to the stock browser. Chrome is cool but it lacks features. Its just not finished in my eyes. As long as most streaming sites use flash (i watch alot of esports) i will need flash support.
I also don't like that there is no bar when a page loads. There just this little wheel that spins and then its finished.
Boat boat boat boat boat!
Yeah, go boat browser.

Not really talking about the look and features where yes i agree that it is very similar to chrome. Chrome however, has added the sweet feature of being slow and subtracted flash support.

But chrome can sync between any device that uses chrome. I don't recall boat or dolphin being able to do that? Or I might just be out of the loop.
I agree with wifesabitch, for the same reasons, the syncing between desktop, phone and tablet, saved passwords, book marks and familiarity. I will say that I've not tried Chrome, but I used Dolphin exclusively on all my other phones and tabs until FF came along. I did try using Chrome on laptop and importing settings, passwords and bookmarks, but it didn't gather everything and after trying 4 times I gave up. FF is not as smooth, safe, and stable as it used to be at all even on the desktop. However I've collected Nearly 500 book marks, have 6 pages of speed dials and all my passwords, until something comes along that will import all of that and be smooth, safe and stable, I'll stick with the devil I know.
Hey I found that Tint Browser is really Smooth and stable. It's like stock one but without the ANRs.

Except stock has that super-cool thumb control thingy which once you get used to it is a real pleasure to use and really fast to navigate. Oh, and Flash of course also.
try Aurora

You could always try Aurora for Android - despite its being pre-Beta, it runs really well. AND supports syncing )
I use Chrome, just for the sake of Synchronization of stuff and Chrome to Mobile.
But as somebody wrote, both FF & Chrome need some speeding up, sometimes it renders the page just too long for my taste even on fast connections.
