I have only had the prime for about a month now. I have been using firefox the entire time. Installed it day one. I got fed up with how slowly it was rendering pages and finishing page loads on the prime. ESPECIALLY this site. Unreal. The loading circle just spun forever.
Tonight I put chrome on and realized what an idiot I had been choosing firefox in the first place. A google OS should run a google browser
Page loads complete quickly, and the browser is performing so much better than FF I just can't believe it. I was thinking of giving up on tablets for browsing due to the way FF was performing.
If you havent run chrome on here, and yes maybe I am the last to think of this, but please do try it.

sadly I think they both suck on prime. Default browser works best, is compatible with sideloaded flash on jb and if you scroll to the bottom of xda you can choose the xda 2010 option that works much better.
Chrome lags like crazy on my prime with JB. It performed better on ICS. Stock/Dolphin are by far the smoothest for me.
iOn my experience Dolphin Browser Beta Works really well and it is very smooth. I tried Firefox but feels slow...

Talking about Firefox there's AuroraX from the same makers just that this has faster rendering times but all in all I'd go ahead and say that no matter what rom you're on for the Prime, the stock browser would still be the optimal performer
Boat browser all the way
Boat Browser is by far the best. Give it a try
Scrolling on FF is just awful and it can be pretty laggy at times but I put up with it as the only browser I have on here mainly because of Ad-block Plus, syncing with my desktop, ability to restore tabs from last time and it handles flash pretty well. The pros outweigh the cons for me and since there is no perfect browser on Android this is what I'm going with.
The stock one just looks like rebranded chrome. Seriously, same options, same settings just a different skin.

I second that... Tried about every browser nothing comes close to the stock browser. Chrome is cool but it lacks features. Its just not finished in my eyes. As long as most streaming sites use flash (i watch alot of esports) i will need flash support.
I also don't like that there is no bar when a page loads. There just this little wheel that spins and then its finished.
Boat boat boat boat boat!
Yeah, go boat browser.

Not really talking about the look and features where yes i agree that it is very similar to chrome. Chrome however, has added the sweet feature of being slow and subtracted flash support.

But chrome can sync between any device that uses chrome. I don't recall boat or dolphin being able to do that? Or I might just be out of the loop.
I agree with wifesabitch, for the same reasons, the syncing between desktop, phone and tablet, saved passwords, book marks and familiarity. I will say that I've not tried Chrome, but I used Dolphin exclusively on all my other phones and tabs until FF came along. I did try using Chrome on laptop and importing settings, passwords and bookmarks, but it didn't gather everything and after trying 4 times I gave up. FF is not as smooth, safe, and stable as it used to be at all even on the desktop. However I've collected Nearly 500 book marks, have 6 pages of speed dials and all my passwords, until something comes along that will import all of that and be smooth, safe and stable, I'll stick with the devil I know.
Hey I found that Tint Browser is really Smooth and stable. It's like stock one but without the ANRs.

Except stock has that super-cool thumb control thingy which once you get used to it is a real pleasure to use and really fast to navigate. Oh, and Flash of course also.

You could always try Aurora for Android - despite its being pre-Beta, it runs really well. AND supports syncing )
I use Chrome, just for the sake of Synchronization of stuff and Chrome to Mobile.
But as somebody wrote, both FF & Chrome need some speeding up, sometimes it renders the page just too long for my taste even on fast connections.

Firefox 4 was released for desktop and a mobile update was released today. I'm still messing around with it, but really liking the mobile stuff so far. I think I prefer chrome for desktop use, but may convert to firefox just for the mobile stuff.
You can set up a sync between the desktop and your phone so that you can immediately view tabs that are open on the desktop version. It's a lot like chrome to phone, but MUCH smoother/quicker in my experience. Chrome to phone always seemed to have a bit of a lag that made it annoying at times, so I'm definitely liking this so far.
At the very least, it's worth a try, even if you've used previous versions.
I like it, but still no flash support
Agreed, its double tap zooming is better than any other browser I've tried on Android.

They have also said they don't have a time frame of when/if they will add flash support...
Seems very odd to me. I like the fact I can sync the browser with my desktop but without flash support its almost useless.
Thats funny, I use optionshouse.com which is a flash based trading website (account needed) and it doesn't work in any browser but firefox...
Yeah, I just uninstalled it... feel let down, b/c Firefox is my go to on my pc. Mobile version bites though. After syncing all my bookmarks to DolphinHD & flash mod, I'll be sticking with that.
I'm a LastPass user, so Dolphin has been my only option, but I just saw they released an add-on for Firefox so I downloaded it to give it a try. I found Firefox supper buggy. It was laggy navigating menus and settings, and jittery when inputting text, (though seemed snappy enough loading web pages) and I had 2 FCs inside of 20 minutes... Is anyone else having similar problems? I'm running CM7 PB2.
Can someone make this a sticky?
Since I've used my tablet, the one program/app I've kept switching and going back and forth has been the browser. Some do things well, while others do things just ok. I'd like to create this thread to list all browsers that work with the Transformer Prime tablet and list their strengths and weakness. This of course will be a "live" list and hopefully keep growing and be a good resource for lots of people. I just thought it would help. Since I'm no expert at all, I could at least start off with listing some of the browsers I use. Also, if this isn't even needed, let me know. No big deal.

I've been using Stock, Opera, and Dolphin HD, and so far I think I like Dolphin HD...
Dolphin HD just seems faster... could be mind tricks, but it does seem to load faster.
Opera, it's fast but I'm not used to the UI and don't really like it.
I love the stock "look" and the favorites button in the top right corner. If only I could combine Dolphin HD and the stock browser
*Edit*
Hmmm, guess it was false news? Can't seem to get it to work anymore atm... Crap.
Ive used Stock, Dolphin HD, Opera, and Boat Browser. I can say with full confidence that the Boat Browswer has been the best browsing experience. I've used this for 3 days now zero fc or locks and smoother/faster than any other ones ive tried and has full flash support.
Damn... I just updated opera and flash still isnt working for me. I'm using dolpin untill i can get flash to work with opera. Never tried boat. Might look into it.

Yeah it says in change log log of opera that flash has issues with ICS 4.0.3. This new update took a step backwards as flash is not even in settings anymore. Of you go to a site that has flash, it'll say you need to install flash n enable Java.

Yeah, noticed the lack of flash settings as well...
But I think that when I go to youtube.com, click a flash video it opens in the youtube app but when I press back it goes back to opera and does play the video in the browser... Must check if I can reproduce it.
Amazing though that the opera team still hasn't got this working yet, insane actually.
I've tried stock, xscope and after that I was worried that I wouldn't be able to do the type of browsing I do on my laptop (speed wise)
Then I tried dolphin HD. It has a 'desktop / tablet mode ' that optimizes it for tablet size and unlocks more functionality.
Overall it looks nice and has good features it, but I promise you the only reason I use it is because it simply loads all my pages faster -never cannot view a page (which I would get random pages show as unavailable with stock despite knowing for a fact they work on other browsers) . Also It does not lock up nearly as much as stock did with the old wait or force close window (which upon hitting wait lead to complete functionality again dope)
Finding it hard to figure out a way to update the original post. I would love others to be able to input their own information, which makes it a real "live" document. Like sharepoint folks.
That's why I chose to use Google Docs, lol

Guys, I have a problem. I've been messing around in Titanium Backup deleting bloat and I accidentally uninstalled the stock browser. I made backup, of course, but when I tried restoring it, it just went on working forever.
I've tried restarting the tablet, I've even done a factory reset but it didn't help. The browser is missing from my app drawer and the bookmarks widgets are not working.
I've checked the system/app folder with Root Explorer. The file named com.android.browser.apk is still there but there is no .odex file. Should there be one? I tried reinstalling the app from this apk but it doesn't work.
Any ideas what else I can try? Also, I'll be extremely grateful if someone can provide any browser related apk and odex files.
EDIT: I've solved it. I've got the deodexed Browser.apk from this thread, placed it in the system/app folder and restarted. It works now.
BTW, the ICS Browser+ does not work without the stock browser.
That belongs in it's own thread or broadcast in an IRC channel, you could also just use ICS Browser+.

Can't go wrong with boat IMO. Have been an opera user on my phones for a long time. Having never heard of boat browser I gave it a go on my prime and found it blows every other android browser out of the water. I enabled the desktop user agent and since have not even felt the need to try any other browser. In fact, boat is now on my phone also, its that good. Also looks much better than opera which I always thought was ugly but couldn't give it up due to its superior smoothness.
Anyways, until a real chrome browser is available for android (still dumbfounded it isn't, ffs Google!) I don't see myself replacing boat.
What browsers are you all using? Why do you like it. I was using stock for a while, and recently switched to opera, but i am finding it quirky and a little flaky.
Depends on what your needs are. If you want a quick, touch based interface, stick with Opera. The UI just got updated and it's a lot easier. It can also download through filehosts. Otherwise, if you're using an external mouse, try chrome beta or maxthon. They have small, hard to touch buttons, but the mouse makes it feel more natural. Chrome is still in beta though and it crashes rarely.
I don't like, on opera, how often when I click on the page, it zooms. I also had several posts that I did on facebook that showed up there, but when I used another browser they were not there. There are some other issues that don't come to mind now.

What UI elements did they change in Opera? I keep wanting to switch, but I utterly can't stand not having visible tabs on top.
Additionally, the stock browser and ICS+ have spoiled me beyond return with site specific desktop agent mode. I think that is my most critical feature at this point.
I really like Boat Browser. Very fast, simple but very configurable interface and options, stable, and supports Flash.

Try Chrome beta!

I like chrome but no flash support. Granted I don't need flash all that much so it it generally fine to use even with fingers. I don't know why someone said it has small buttons. If I need flash I just use the stock browser. I don't know why everyone insists on NOT using it. I like chrome because I can access my desktop bookmarks and that pretty much the only reason.

I've been using Boat browser, since it didn't crash that much, but have been lately switching back to ICS+ since I like the quick controls.
I've been using Boat Browser most of the time since it supports Flash, desktop mode works for most sites and I can easily adjust the fonts for my dang old eyes.
ICS Browser +
Only browser not to force close on me yet. Absolutely love it. Shame i cant use it on my phone which has gingerbread.
Maxthon Browser
I've been happy with Maxthon. Never heard of it until I ran across it in the app store. Redraws are very fast, autosizes to wide pages, has gestures, etc. Very few add-ons, but seems to do the job. I have version 1.5
Another vote for Boat, and I think I've tried all of them.
But the best is doing a remote desktop and using Firefox on Windows.
Since .13 update i am using stock browser. It is far more stable and pretty fine. I have chrome, Firefox, opera and dolphin inhaled. The second preferred is dolphin.
Had some keyboard issues with Chrome Beta, so sticking with the stock browser: seems stable.
Prefer the Chrome bookmarking though.
FG
Opera mobile used to be good but now it crashes all the time.I suggest Boat browser & Dolphin HD.
I kinda swap between Opera and Chrome although i will probably go straight to Chrome as soon as it's out of beta cause it's hella fast at the moment and will probably just get faster. The only thing I don't get is why they didn't release it earlier.
I use Opera if I want to 'chrome-to-phone' and download something, otherwise I use Chrome for everything else.
So I lost root with the latest version, as did many people.
And now I hate browsing on this device, 90% of the time I get browser lag with the force close warning. When rooted with the ad blocker everything was so smooth. All the javascripts from the ads slow down the browser, is this the case with ipad too?
Damn I need my root access back.
I never understood why people kept complaining about the slow browser. Now I do.

I will not answer the iPad queston because then I'm a fanboy. Anyway, did you try a different browser like Chrome or Dolphin Browser HD? These are much faster then the default in my experience, Chrome doens't support flash (as far as I know), Dolphin does.
Go in browser setting, advance, uncheck javascript and put plug-ins on demand, close browser including in last use app then go back in. Should improve browsing

And there is no setting in Dolphin to always show tabs.
Man this crap is getting freaking old!
Why the hell do I have to go into settings, turn this off, enable on demand, etc etc....
This tablet was touted with a quad core chip running 1.4 MHz on performance mode, yada yada...why the hell can't it handle a heavy web page! Wtf!!
My 2 year old HTC Evo....rooted running cm7....is smoother. I can screw up and hit page back, and hit menu then click a bookmark flawlessly ...
But the OP does bring up a great point. I have adfree on my phone and I guess I haven't realized that it makes that much of a difference.
Don't know, maybe its just me, but why do you have to go thru all sorts of settings just to get a smooth internet experience?
Sorry for the rant, I still love the little beast. Just get the browser straight and I might not be scared to recommended the Prime to others....
Using ICS+ browser with adblock, flash and java script enabled all the time and everthing is butter smooth here
This is actually the best browsing experience ever. Especially with the keyboard dock and the addition of the Overskreen floating browser i prefer it to my desktop most of the time! I dont even start it up anymore unless i need it for my music progs or gaming. Its just PEWPEW!
Also in iCS+ you can set back and forward to screen swipes and that also works with the touchpad. Its so cool to just swipe around and control everything that way toghether with the keyboard shortcuts.
yeah adblocker or ad free makes a world of difference. you could also enable the force gpu rendering in developer options in settings to speed things up.
ill answer the other question since Joey didn't..lol. Ipad browsing is decent but not nearly as good as its made out to be. plus Ipad doesn't even support flash so its not loading up the ads. its as if it runs browser with adblocker on. stock safari browser sux. you can get a good 3rd. party one like Icab or Atomic browser on Ipad and do well. but really all 3rd party Ipad browsers aren't true 3rd party ones. 99% of them are based off of Safari or have sacrifice engine as the core of it. but my prime is way faster and smoother than my Ipad. as far as web browsing and scrolling lag free. my Ipad can't even touch my prime no matter what its doing.
I have my prime on 1Ghz top speed and using opera Mobile. the web pages still load near instant and experiencing no lag at all scrolling. I am rooted and have adfree on. plus I forced gpu rendering. I'm truly amazed how well this tablet performs even having 1Ghz as my top speed. can't even tell the difference hardly cuz everything so fast and fluid.

Leave java on then guarantee most of the lag is from waiting for all the flash to load set to on demand you can still view them just hit the down arrow of the vid you want to view. Far from broken web Haven't seen the wait window since I changed my setting and I always run on performance
yeah i made a thread about losing root and how much it sucks not having adfree yeseterday. it SUCKS. the thing is i doubt there is the urgency to find a new root method there was at the beginning either because so many have root still.
is there even away to gain root access if i unlock? i don't even think there is a stock rooted .21 custom rom out to load anyways and from what i've read all the other custom roms don't play well with the keyboard.

All broken without javascript.
javascript has been an intricate part of the web since the Netscape Navigator browser, practically every browser since Netscape have relied on javascript, not to be confused with Sun/Oracle Java . Turning off javascript in a browser would be like turning image viewing, you're going to end up with a crappy web browsing experience.
Google and ASUS not being able to address this is a shame.
With the last update... Asus finally fixed the Screen tearing and flickering that made the Prime look like an amateur programmed it. I'm annoyed that the browser lag is still there under normal use if I keep javascript on. Like others have said, an end user should not have to disable and tweak a bunch of stuff just to get decent performance. Constantly turning javascript on and off depending on the site is pretty annoying and does not make for an enjoyable browsing experience. It also doesn't seem to help the PULSE news app at all.
While I love my Prime, it's pretty sad to see my HP Touchpad absolutely destroying it when comparing the two at web browsing. The Touchpad on an alpha release of CM9 seriously blows the Prime away on the stock browser... Never had a wait message pop up while surfing even heavy pages...it just works. I can't even scroll right away on the Prime while the page is loading. I have to either wait for some elements to load or for the dreaded Wait/Ok to pop up. On my Touchpad or ipad 2..this issue is nonexistent.
I hope that this is the next priority on Asus list. User experience is an important thing...and a laggy browser and screen tearing should never have made it past quality control.
Now, I don't want to be all negative, so I will say that one of my test sites always runs best on the Prime stock browser, and that is:
http://www.pirateslovedaisies.com/
This site won't even finish loading on an ipad 2 (don't know about the 3) and runs slower on the Touchpad with CM9 (and not at all on Web OS) so at least we know the Prime is decent with complex HTML5 in some cases.

Hey, I'll take a little credit for the Touchpad running well despite inferior hardware. =P
I've been meaning to get CM9 on my Transformer Prime to see how the browser performs there. One thing to note is that I disable the gpu upload path on the Touchpad due to an Adreno driver bug. I'm curious to see if that has any affect on the performance on Transformer Prime. If you'd like to try it for yourself then go to about:debug in the browser. Then go to settings->debug and check Enable CPU Upload Path. This is only a temporary switch and will go away when you close the browser but worth testing as a shot in the dark.
I do generally agree that the stock browser performs better on the Touchpad with its dual core running at 1.2ghz. Tegra 3's cortex-a9 should be about 10-20% faster than the Snapdragon CPU in the Touchpad clock for clock.
So how does browsing on the current version of CM9 preform, anyone who's installed please give your impressions.
Or any other custom roms any better?

Awesome job on the Touchpad port. It's absolutely amazing as a tech enthusiast to be able to witness the amazing work done by people like yourself.
I went ahead and tried your solution and it's a vast improvement on the stock browser. I've only seen the wait/cancel pop up once and that was stress testing it with 6 tabs open on heavy sites. It has not done it again and it's been about 2 hours playing around with the TFP. What exactly does that setting do? Maybe it can be set to permanent on ICS browser+.
What adblocking app do you all prefer?

Ever since Honeycomb, the absolute biggest problem I've had with this tablet is the browser. It doesn't freaking stay open. No matter what browser I use, no matter if I'm running Honeycomb, ICS or Jellybean, the browser always crashes. And it's not a typical FC either; It just closes right back to Launcher.
I've been hearing that it's caused by some null pointer exception in JavaScript; But you mean to tell me between Android 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 4.0 - 4.0.4 and 4.1, 4.1.1, that this issue STILL isn't resolved? Not to mention, it only happens on tablets (Tegra 2 issue? Xoom has the same issue).
For me, it most notably happens when I'm browsing a Twitter page. In the past minute alone, I've had browser crash on my SIX times trying to load a page on Twitter. Let's make that 7 now.
So what the hell really causes this, and why won't it go away? My Sensation and myTouch 4G can browse just fine, and this temporary Galaxy S III works perfectly too, so what's with the tablet?
EDIT: Disabled JavaScript and set plugins to ondemand. Same damn result.
I've used the stock browser, Dolphin, Chrome, and Skyfire and none of them have ever crashed on me. Ever. Sounds like there is either something defective about your device perhaps your internet connection. A factory reset might help, as might going into applications, finding the Google framework and clearing data. Do the same for your browsers as well.
That's funny, I've noticed just the same thing. Browsers work terribly on this tablet.
With me, they only do crash sometimes – a lot more than on my HTC phone, though. But using browsers is a real pain, as they all feel kinda buggy, and I don't think it's their fault, since they all show the same "bugs". They're all kinda laggy. I've updated to ICS today and I was crying in emotion for being able to finally download Chrome, as it's the most stable one I've ever used in my phone, but I was disappointed when I noticed it too felt quite laggy. I'd rather go home and turn my Mac on than to struggle with web browsing on this tablet, honestly. I've tried many browsers –*stock, Dolphin, Boat, that other one with green icon, and also Skyfire or something.
If anyone has a better thing, or a solution, or anything, I bet there are many desperate people that would die to hear it.
(I know I sound more dramatic than I should, but let's face it, web browsing sucks in this device.)
I've never had any problem web browsing on my Tab. None. I'm not rooted, maybe that's why, or maybe it has to do with the sites you visit. Dunno.
On my tab with HC 3.2, the stock browser would also just disappear to the home screen, but not all that often.
I flashed to ICS, and the stock browser got a bit quirky. The address bar would no longer hide when I scrolled down
on a web page. Would stutter as if it was trying to hide but wouldn't.
Installed Dolphin and it worked fine.
I went back to HC 3.2 (had some other issues besides the browser) and so far the stock browser is working fine.

Dolphin does the same thing though, just a lot less frequently. Motorola Xoom users in a thread from a year ago reported this same problem (in a filled up 14 page thread), and several of users report the same exact issue. I'm gonna poll some more Tegra 2 sections and see if they suffer from the same thing but it looks like this is just another issue with this ****ty SoC, like the portrait mode lag.

Not to sound rude but your opinion isn't really credible to me, you're the same one who went crazy when I said this tablet sucked. You have bias written all over you.

Come on dude, I'd have to be rooted to be running Jellybean. And as everyone else has shown, it does seem to vary by website. Full pages on twitter ALWAYS crash, (they work once in a blue moon). Other times browser crashes when browser feels like it hasn't crashed in a while. I could get through a day perfectly, then bam, crash.
I'm not a dude.
I've never had a problem with any of the browsers I've tried, I think maybe you have a faulty tablet.
I to have the same problems. The browser would even close and reopen with no webpages there.

Yes Google.ca. The browser just shut down without a force close notice and opens blank. Plus it becomes non responsive, on pages that have a lot of javascript.

That specifically happens the second time. On the first crash, I'd relaunch and it would reload my pages, but 99/100 times it would crash seconds afterward. Upon opening it again, i get one tab with the Google homepage.

Sounds like JavaScript is the culprit, but it still crashed for me even after I disabled JavaScript
I think it's all about memory management, I cant tell about HC 'cause I barely used it, but JB is still very experimental.

I'm biased because I've never had any problems with my browser crashing? Whatever. I also never "went crazy" over anything. All you do is complain and complain. Why not just get an iPad and move on?
I have tried several browsers also, and for me I really only have problems with chrome freezing (not force closing). It seems to be random, but happens more frequently when opening new tabs. However, the stock browser on the same sites seems to work every time. My guess is that it may be due to timeouts on the network connection or possibly memory related. And, it seems to be random... I may go a day without a freeze, then have two back to back freezes. Oh tegra2, why don't you behave?
Hey guys,
It's been almost a week since I flashed the stock ICS and installed Chrome. So far so good, no complaints. I'm really relieved, as I was almost giving up. Give it a try

Chrome is the way to go. The ability to create an account and sync all relevant browser data to your devices via the cloud - why hasn't anyone thought of this before? So obvious and useful.
I also strongly recommend trying out Boat Browser, which is highly underrated. Smoother and smarter layout than Dolphin and the best alternative to Chrome, IMO.

Chrome acts really weird on JB. I'm still running pershoot's 8/4 build but I'll be updating and trying out Chrome again. Last time I tried it I would always get a white page while switching tabs, and scrolling was odd. Browser does a much better job but Chrome has too much nice functionality lol

I doubt it's memory relate, it happens a lot with 1 tab open, and with a full Gig of RAM, browsing should be painless when it comes to memory management, not to mention, but Android's memory management scheme is the most beautiful thing I've seen. Tabs and apps actually know how to stay open, and Android knows what to close. Works a lot better than any tablet I've used, even better than crapple's iPad.
