Power saving app in stock software - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hi,
Xperia S have with stock ROM "Power saving" app (I do not know how it is call in English version so it is my translation).
I like this app for it simplicity compare to Profile Scheduller (very good app too) but have some problem with it.
When I run saving mode in Power saving app manually it working OK, starting power mode when battery is going down is ok too, but problem is with scheduled mode.
I set it to start power saving mode form 11 PM until 7 AM but it is not reliable. One time it start one time other time no. Biggest problem is morning when I taking phone in my hand at for instance 7:30 AM it should be in normal mode (from 30 minutes) but mostly it isn't. Typicaly after few minutes playing with phone it switch to normal mode from power saving mode but it is irritating.
Does anybody have similar problem? What is wrong with my phone or my setup?

I have the same. No idea why it does that...

I have the same issue as well. Schedule mode is simply unreliable, also even though it sometimes switches itself off properly it "forgets" to increase screen brightness or turn on auto-synch for instance. This app is just buggy so I don't bother with it anymore.

On .67 software it spent most of the time 'restarting' for me, havent tried it on .73 yet but its probably work in progress

It is nice to hear I am not alone. Maybe in .73 it will be better.

[Q] Saving Android Battery Life in FLIGHT MODE

hallo,
i installed different kinds of android (SD version) on my HTC HD2, lastly i decided to use the MccM HD V6 SD SENSE FROYO and im very happy with that.
but ive got a problem: when im using flight mode while sleeping (usually 6-8hours), the battery loses 40-45% charge.
here is the situation:
- when im turning the device off and on again before using flight mode (means boot to wm6.5 artemis and then launching android, activating sim card and then setting device to flight mode) it tages 3-5% of charge during the night.
- when i do NOT reset the device, just enter flight mode after using the phone the whole day (facebook, google maps, ...) then the battery loses 40-45% charge as said before.
so the problem might be an application, which - once it is startet - always tries to connect when im flight mode. i startet using zdbox with autokill on lock, later also autokill system programs - no sucess.
lately i tried batteriefu, but this only stopped my data traffic/connection right now.
i have no idea, what to do against that. a friend told me, its not necessary to use taskkillers at all in android - whats your opinion?
maybe the SD android is a problem? (when programs use the SD card during night, it drains the battery?)
thnx in advance
markus
ps: sorry newbie, first thread in this board - when im doing wrong, just tell me - it was not on purpose.
Battery drain
wHY NOT JUST SWITCH THE PHONE OFF AT NIGHT????. Am I missing something??
Good luck
- galarm? (alarm use)
- and it takes time to go to wm6.5 and then launch android?
John, your shift key is stuck..
I can't help you directly, but SpareParts has a log feature that will tell you which applications cause the device to not enter sleep mode correctly (wake-lock), using that you should be able to locate the program causing the issue.
ok, spareparts was one of the things i uninstalled
spareparts or spareparts+?
thnx!
Normal spareparts should be able to do it (at least the one that came with my CM7 does)
ok, installed it, checkt the logs, loading battery and testing this night
interesting, last 2 nights there was a batteryloss of only 3-4%.
no idea why...
I've heard of roms / kernels taking a couple days to settle before some of the kinks go away, so it might be something of that sort. Otherwise I would assume your phone should be saving power if it's not connecting to networks as frequently

Y'know, I thought it was just me thinking this but I have noticed better performance once RevolutionROM has been in for 2 days or so.
I know there is politics for posting on a old thread but I saw this thread on Google while trying to see if this happened to anyone else.
I would like to report that right before bed I had 22%. My Samsung Skyrocket will eat right through 22% overnight if the cell radio is on. So without rebooting I turned on airplane mode (so I would have an alarm in the morning.) I woke up and my battery was at 28% I couldn't believe it. I will try to re-create this again. This was from 2am to 7am. In my battery details graph it even shows a little "hill" noting the increase.
I did hit the Task Killer button from my ES Task Manager widget right before airplane mode to make sure Facebook and Email were closed.
Any Input?
Have you tried betterbatterystats? I had high drain with new rom and seems to have been Audiout_2 which was started by the keyboard click. It was on by default in the ROM. Its off now and all is OK. Seems once it starts it must be continuously polling.

[Q][View] Battery/Screen Question

Hello, everybody. Newb here (only have had the HTC Evo View 4G for a couple of days now). I have a question about the battery and screen. Is it regular for the screen to use up about ~60 percent of the battery? (According the usage stats). I find that the screen is bright, even on the lowest setting.
Also, I have a question about the battery. It seems to be draining a little quick (I am using lowest brightness and WiFi only). Could some people share how long their battery usually lasts for regular usage? I don't think it's a hardware issue. Like I've said, I've only had it for 2 days, so I don't know if I still need to wait a little.
Thanks!
The screen is one of the biggest battery drainers (if not the biggest) on tablets. So if you are using the tablet a lot, and the screen is on for long periods of time, then 60% seems normal. I don't have my Flyer with me right now to check what my % for screen is.
Battery drain is going to depend a bunch on how much you are using your View, and for what. With moderate usage, I can get around 2 days on a charge. I'd say that is about average for me. But if you are downloading big files and gaming, and/or have the screen on a lot, it can be significantly less.

Okay, that makes sense. The battery life seems to be getting better. One more question. I want WiFi to turn off after a certain amount of time once the screen timeouts. Is there any way to do this in the settings or with an app? The settings (official 3.2) has a WiFi timeout policy that gives three options:
Switch from WiFi to mobile data when screen is off
Never switch WiFi off
Never switch WiFi off when plugged in
I live in Canada and don't have a plan. Would using the first option drain more battery because it is looking for a connection? Or should I use the third option?
Thanks again.
Hmm, not sure. I have the WiFi only version of the Flyer, and on mine the first choice is just "When screen turns off". The first choice on your View is weird. Mobile data always uses more power than WiFi, if both are available. I don't see why you would ever want that.
BTW, I'm at home and have access to my Flyer now. Battery usage for screen is 52% for me. So I'd say 60% you mentioned is pretty normal.
You should also take into account, unless you've taken steps to turn it off/remove it, Cell standby might also be causing your battery life to take a hit. Since the View is set up to also be able to receive text messages, out of the box it's constantly trying to connect to Sprint's cellular network, even if you have mobile data turned off. This thread discusses ways to deal with it. Cell standby used to be one of the biggest users of my battery. Now, it's no longer a problem and I've seen a major increase in battery life.
As for the WiFi issue, the first choice in the settings actually says "When screen turns off (uses more mobile data)." That doesn't mean that it automatically switches mobile data on if you've turned it off in the settings by selecting that option. It's worded that way because the View is designed to be used on Sprint's network, so under normal circumstances it is assumed that if you turn WiFi off, you'll have a data plan and automatically connect to the mobile data network. If you don't have an account with mobile data from Sprint, and you've turned off mobile data in the settings, it won't be an issue because you have nothing to connect to.

That makes much more sense.
Okay, thanks everybody. I really appreciate it. With heavy usage (basically using it all the time) I'd get about 6 hours and 10 minutes. Is that normal for everybody else?
Also, I have a couple of more questions, if you guys don't mind.
First of all, could rooting my device boost my battery life? Would it give me more access to settings like screen brightness?
And, do apps running in the background use battery life or are they 'frozen' until active? This sort of leads me into my next question. Is having 400-500MB of RAM always being used normal? Is the OS using all of it?
And I notice that when I put my tablet in airplane mode (to kill the 4G radio) I lose access to Bluetooth. Is this normal and will turning off airplane mode for a minute be a battery drain?
Thanks again, guys.

Answers:
Rooting won't necessarily boost battery life, but does give you ways to access more system items if you want using apps that take advantage of root.
Android attempts to keep non-rumming apps in memory so that it can load them faster in the future (Ram is much faster than SD memory). 80% Ram full is typical.
Airplane mode turns off all radios, BT, Wifi, GPS, 3g.
There are apps in the market that can turn various things on / off based on your environment / time / conditions

You don't need root access to adjust screen brightness. Settings -> Screen -> Brightness.

Airplane mode turns off all radios initially, but then you can turn almost all of them right back on (except for the cellular radios). I run mine in airplane mode all the time to keep the cellular radio completely inactive, but I still use WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth when I need/want them, and they all work great. Are you running Gingerbread or Honeycomb? I do seem to remember some mentions of not being able to use Bluetooth in airplane mode on Gingerbread. It works perfectly fine on Honeycomb.
And you can turn off the 4G radio and all data service without turning on airplane mode (Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Mobile network). Doing this turns off all radios that receive data from the cellular network, but it doesn't turn all cellular functions off since the View is also set up to receive text messages. That's what airplane mode or any of these options address.
What I meant by adjusting the screen brightness was being able to control its range more than I can right now (I feel that even the lowest setting can be too much). But it seems that rooting/installing a custom ROM wouldn't do too much for the battery.
But my issue with airplane mode is that I can't turn on Bluetooth with it (Bluetooth is 'grayed out'). I am running official Honeycomb.

Did you try tapping on the box for Bluetooth in the settings even though it looks like you can't, and did you try using a widget to turn it on? I'm using stock OTA Honeycomb, and Bluetooth works perfectly fine for me while in airplane mode. I can turn it on in the settings (the box does look a little "grayed out," but you can still select it) or via a homescreen widget. If you can't turn it on with either of those, then it would seem that you've got some other type of problem. It works fine for me. I just tested it out again.

I just tried it. It seems to not be working for me, but it doesn't seem like a glitch but something built into the OS (I tried with a widget and it did a little 'no' animation). It's alright, I rarely use Bluetooth anyway.
Thanks for all of your help (plus everybody else, too)!

I'd venture to say it's not something built into the OS. If it is built into the OS, then there's a glitch that allows me to use it under the same circumstances, and glitches rarely enable functionality. They almost always cause a device to lose functionality like you're experiencing. I'd be curious to know if anyone else is having the same issue you're having.
Last time I have ran battery test on my Flyer I ran it for almost 11 days on one charge. Yeap, 11 days. I mostly used Flyer as a notepad, checked orders on website couple of times a day, read emails. One day I played a game for about 20 minutes. At the end I set up and tested Plex and Google Music. I stopped the test at 11% charge. Overall screen was on for a bit over 4 hours (40%). Wi-fi on for 16 hours (only 4% ??) according to stats. That's pretty much it. Tablet idle 43%. Fairly light usage, but I mostly was testing how much of useable time I can get out of it. 11 days is a pleasing result.

Auto Brightness turning off?

Anyone else using the auto brightness and notice that it gets unchecked/turned off randomly? Stock firmware here, not rooted. Randomly noticing that the auto brightness is turning off.
I'm noticing the same thing. Have you found a solution?
No I haven't but I'm relieved to hear I'm not the only one lol!
Seriously, I thought I was going crazy too. I looked on Google and XDA but I couldn't find anything specific to the S6 edge.
One thing to note, it seems like mine started happening after I used Moon Reader, which controls brightness independently of Android brightness settings - admittedly this could just be a coincidence though.
It seems like it happens every 30 minutes to an hour for me. If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated.
Extra Info: running a Tmobile Galaxy S6 edge with the latest update.
I also thought I was the only one with this problem. Fwiw, I'm not using moon reader and I've noticed the auto unchecked after 30 min give or take of being checked and it pisses me off because battery life is not the best...
Please let me know if you find a solution. Did previous galaxy phones had this happen? I'm coming of an htc one m8 and never owned a galaxy before.

Still looking for one personally... the only other galaxy phone I owned was a s3 and that never had this issue.
LOL, glad i saw this...thought the phone was unlocking in my pocket and accidentally doing this. I also find the auto brightness is awful. Way to dim. Wish Samsung would have used Lollipop's adjustable display where you can adjust how aggressive the auto brightness gets.
I don't really have a problem with the dimness, I just wish it would stay checked...
Same thing with the S6
As others mentioned, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I just have the S6, not the edge, and am having the same issue.
I got a software update last night at around 2am EST through Telus and I haven't had the auto brightness turn off on me for a few hours now. Used to happen once every 30mins-1hour. Seems to be fixed!
Can you test the Fingerprint and Bluetooth trusted devices bug? Set up a trusted device and then connect to it. Then unlock the phone and wait for the screen to turn back off. Then, try pressing the home button to see if it lets you right back in to the phone, rather then having to do the damn swipe screen
many things not working
Hi
I have marked that many things are different in S6 and many many features are missing
1) Auto brightness gets disable on its own
2 ) Edge notification getting disabled
3) Open background tab opting missing
4) Switching between chrome tabs needs left hard key
5) Apps are crashing
6) Annoying Mobile data disable popup window!(with no option to disable it)
7) Long pressing Mobile data options opens up data uses rather than network settings!
8) Quick view can't be expanded by dragging it with two fingures!
9) Syncing is not good
10) people can hear me well on phone.
11) No guest mode!
I get more of a feel that I am using iPhone than S6! Many user settings are missing
Fixed itself
Strangest thing, seems like as of Yesterday midday or so auto-brightness is staying checked. No Idea what changed, I didn't change anything in terms of settings/restarting/etc. I will update if this changes but it is very strange...
Disable Car Mode
By disabling Car Mode, my auto brightness stayed on so far. You guys could give it a try!
found a solution!
So I was trying to fix the battery drain issue by deleting the cache according to another thread, and I noticed that the auto brightness hasn't unchecked itself since, is been about 12 hrs so far but I couldn't go 20 minutes without this happening yesterday.
Give it a try and see of it works for you, it might improve your battery life too, mine seems to be better but is too early to tell.
In case you don't how to do this, here is a copy of somebody's else instructions on hire to do it:
"Turn the phone off, then press and hold volume up + home button + power button all at the same time. You'll see a message saying "installing system update", which will display for a moment, and then you'll enter recovery. Once in recovery, select "wipe cache partition". Reboot, and your battery life will be much improved"

Whatsapp/fb notification delay LP .28

Hi guys. Since I updated to LP .28 I have been having trouble with notifications, I don't get any notifications until I turn on the screen. I have STAMINA Mode enabled but I already added Whatsapp and FB to the exception list, and also, it doesn't matter if Queue Background Data is on or off, I still don't get notification which is very very annoying. I really don't want to wipe my ROM, as I have a lot of mods and stuff. Do you have the same issue?
Had the same problem directly after updating to .28. After disabling and enabling all Stamina related settings everything went back to normal.

In stamina mode the phone turns off data when screen is switched off turning it on at set intervals at times(usually when you get a phone call or text also) or when you turn on the screen.
I even had this with the battery saver option on my xperia s. So its nothing new, maybe you just noticed it now.
P.s this really should be in the Q&A section.
Thank you. I believe you haven't read my post carefully, I clearly mentioned that even if I turn the option of Queue BD off, the issue still persists, especially with whatsapp. thanx
Same problem here so I stopped using Stamina mode to solve it. Reinstalling ROM without a wipe may be required to fix this problem Goodluck

I was talking about stamina mode not the background data queue. Try turning stamina mode off completely you'll get what I meant.
Yes, I know that turning off Stamina would most likely solve the issue, but my point was why do we need to turn Stamina off to get notifications when it worked just fine under 4.4.4 and below. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. Besides, I have never turned off Stamina Mode neither will I ever turn it off, it saves 50% of power all the time and for me it's a must. I used to own a Z Ultra as well, and never turned SM off, and it always worked perfectly, even when I activate Queue BD, I, of course, have some delays on getting notifications, but still not really bad, it used to sync every 5-10 minutes or so, which isn't really bad. Also, if Stamina Mode means no Mobile Data, and no notifications in return, then it's useless we are better off without it anyway. Thank you guys for the contribution.

Mine works fine on .28 (tested on mobile data and wifi)
All messages (whatsapp, LINE, BBM) are received instantly in real time (no delay) in Stamina mode while the screen is off.

Erratic behaving Z3v (screen won't turn on sometimes, receive texts hours later)

The problems started today.
-When I push the power button sometimes the screen will not turn on. When I hold the power button I can hear the sound of the power menu pop up so I know the device is receiving the signal from the power button.
-I am receiving texts very late or not at all. I just got a message my friend sent like 8 hours ago.
-The device is also a little laggy sometimes, and certain things, like the play store will not load.
-I can't turn on airplane mode
I re-flashed it with the original firmware (while keeping my data intact) and this made no change. I have installed some new apps recently, but this was several days before the issues started. I have since installed those apps and no change
Tomorrow I plan to get a new sim card, but does anyone have any other ideas?
I recently had a similar problem with my z3v. I had a wakelock from Google services that was making my processor use almost 70% constantly and would drain battery in like 3 hours. Mine turned out to be Google calendar sync. My phone would lag so hard it couldn't run widgets or anything. Check your battery in settings and see if something has a high percentage. The screen should be the highest usage by a large margin.

I turned off auto-sync and no change. The screen was the largest use followed by the playstore which had be trying to start since I tried to open it.
My playstore was messed up and would not open while this was going on. It just stayed white and if I locked the screen it took 5 mins to unlock. I also have root and used wakelock detector. I used cpu z to see if I had high processor usage.
You can try ur phone in ultra stamina and see how it acts as well for troubleshooting.

Turns out the verizon cloud backs up text messages as well so that's what I needed. I ended up just doing a factory reset of the phone, seems like all is good now. I didn't think it was going to work since I put new firmware on it and nothing changed. It seems we had the same type of problem though. I did run the phone in safe mode with no improvement, but not ultra stamina. How did you end up fixing the problem?
My husband's phone started having basically the same issues out of the blue yesterday as well. It's not rooted or anything and he hasn't downloaded any apps or anything in weeks. Folks at Verizon store have no idea what's going on. We're about to try a factory reset. We also noticed the play store was burning a lot of battery even though he hadn't tried to open it or use it for several days at least, and can't get it to open now.
Try clearing play store "data" and "cache" through app manager.
This is a disaster, I've been trying forever to restore my text messages from the verizon cloud. Keeps failing after transferring less than 20 percent (different amount each time)
