[MOD] I9100 ICS Firmware Hellraiser 04/10/2012 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Hellraiser. Same as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335377 but for ICS. Same installation instructions, except this is for ICS Touchwiz firmwares instead of Gingerbread.
Known issues:
May break root on some firmwares. Flash ChainsDD's Superuser or Chainfire's SuperSU CWM packages in CWM to fix. To find them, Google it. Will add links later. tired now...
Doesn't change build.prop to represent I777, will cause script assert problems with CM9. I'll fix this later in the week after I've caught up on sleep.
Doesn't change wifi region codes (see Sh1tROM tutorial) for 5 GHz wifi support yet.
Sometimes region settings don't take hold on the first boot, and you need to reboot to see ringtones and proper keyboard
Tested with Foxhound someversionican't remember... Others have used other I9100 ICS firmwares.
Won't work with anything based on I9100 leaks such as XXLPJ - I believe Resurrection was in this category last week.
Having trouble with uploading large files, so:
Take the files at https://github.com/Entropy512/hellraiser_i777/tree/ics, put em' in a ZIP, and flash. I'll attach a ZIP later. I need to contact the XDA admins about some upload issues.

Change Log
04/10/2012:
Updated kernel - SUCK! 04/10/2012
04/01/2012:
Initial release

FAQ goes here

something else will go here.
Locking the thread for now as it needs major cleanup and I'm out of time. Discuss in Generla or Q&A, i'll clean this up and unlock when I catch up on sleep.

I'll keep updates here because I'm awesome like that..:beer:

The uploading issue I've been having with mid-size files (Hellraiser is 10MB) has been forwarded on to the server admins.

Thanks again for this!

Have uploaded the zip to mediafire assuming Entropy512 has no issues . I take no credit for this. Please thank him for this hellraiser...
I hellraised one ROM --VK-- ROM and it is working fine for me.

Another Modem?
Hi Entropy512. I just hellraise FOXHOUND PsychoMantis from here and works really good, however i can't get the internet working (no data, only wifi). Should i try another modem? wich one?

Entropy you said that the package won't work on anything like xxlpj... crysis' from is based on xxlp7, so is that out of the question? Because I love that rom,, but bricked my phone hell raising a bad rom last time, and don't want to make another mistake. Thanks man!

XXLP7 is ancient, it will not work on XXLP7. It will not work on any XX build below LPQ.
If you typoed that and meant XWLP7, it should work.
You need to be VERY careful to be accurate about region codes when talking about I9100 ICS, since they replaced the month code with "P" and how far along the build code is depends on the region. XX is way up there (past Q) and Q is the first one that could be Hellraised, XW is only at 7 and all known XW region builds should be fine.

Hellraised Crysis rom worked fine for me.

How are you supposed to use this...I have this as .zip and F1's Galaxy Nexus stock ROM for Galaxy S II on my AT&T Galaxy S II. When I install F1's Galaxy Nexus stock ROM, it ends because it recognizes my device isn't an OG Galaxy S II.
Am I supposed to merge the Hellraiser files with the ROM files and zip them up?

If you download and flash a stock ROM such as XWLP7 and hellraise, will HDMI work? Read on previous forum that HDMI out does not work on custom ROMs.
Since this is a stock ROM from Sammi this should work. Any experience with this?

You need to remove the script asserts from the updater-script of whatever you're trying to flash. That's probably the first firmware other than CM9 I've heard of that did any script assert checking.

HDMI should work - HDMI works fine on custom firmwares, it just doesn't work right now with AOSP-based firmwares.

Will this work with xwlpf? Wanted to HR the wanam rom. Just wanna be sure
Edit: never mind, already tried it and it works just fine.

Can you post the hellraiser zip please Felix? or did you use flashoholics tool.

Arabic ROM for SGH-I777?

I'm just wondering if there's an Arabic ROM that has been designed for this phone!
Any one please ?
Not likely, considering this is a US-specific model. You might be able to Hellraise an I9100 ROM that has Arabic support.
I did but the ROM of Samsung i9100 wasn't fully compatible with SGH-I777 since
the last has four touch buttons. i9100 has three with home-pressed button. So
based on that SGH-I777 home button doesn't function and the back button works
as home button. It is kind of messed up here! I might have to sell mine and get
either international version or i9100
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335377
Use the hellraiser package after you flash a I9100 rom. It will correct the button layout and make the rom compatible. Be sure to read up on hellraiser prior to using. Don't go flashing roms with bootloaders
This won't work because the I9100 Arabic ROM I have got has .tar files that must
work using Odin. That what was stated in the hellraised thread. Am I right? Is
there any I9100 Arabic Rom that would be in .zip format and installed using SD
card ?
Thanks in advanced
I could be wrong but I thought the VK rom had Arabic built in. I have hellraised that and it worked great.
Edit: link below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377069
Thank you moustro ! you have no idea what that meant to me. I'm going to ask
you a favor ! could you please verify how you hellraised that rom in simple steps?
On my phone I have that att&t stock rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311081
Use the above method of your choice if you are not rooted or need cwm.
Then download the vk version of your choice and the hellraiser package directly on your phone. Boot into cwm, wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache. Then flash vk rom, then flash hellraiser directly after with no boot in between. You should be all set
moustro I got vk ROM to work on my phone but unfortunately it doesn't support
arabic as I thought. I might have to look around for another ROM. Anyway, I
appricate what you did. Thank you again !

Here you go. I found this for you. Flash this rom, then hellraiser, then the Arabic addon package.
Hello:
I was able to get Arabic on my I-777 by flashing this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1536133
and then flashing the file GT-I9100_WanamLite.XWLA4.RTL.FIX.KB found in this link:
http://wanamlite.com/2012/02/07/romcwmxwla4-2-3-6-deodexed-stock-rtl-fix/
This worked perfectly for me on the Ultimatum ROM and should theoretically also work on any other XLA4-based ROM (haven't tested any other ROMs myself).
You can use my CobraRom based off the i9100 but configured for our i777 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531274 then flasb this zip file made for xila3 from wanamlite xila3. This version linked has the correct rtl and keyboard. http://wanamlite.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/GT-I9100_WanamLite.XILA3_.RTL_.FIX_.KB_.zip Or here is the link to just the rtl fix http://wanamlite.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/GT-I9100_WanamLite.XILA3_.RTL_.FIX_.zip
You can find there page here for full i9100 Rom but it will not have the button fix so as to why to use mine. It is the same base firmware. http://wanamlite.com/2012/02/28/romcwmxila3-2-3-6-deodexed-stock-rtl-fix/

Try the page again. Download the first link (full rom) and the update link (updates). Flash the full rom, then flash the update. I fixed the link now. You will still need the Arabic rom part from Wanam if their link still works.

Yes. I do not have the Arabic set up via my Rom, but the Rom base is the same as WanamLites Rom. They have a zip file you can flash to get the Arabic settings. One of the links I gave is to their forum post where their Arabic link is at.

Ok, back to square zero, stock rom , I gave it another trial, again it gives, "Installation Aborted" , says something like zip file is bad!!!
Hola, finally worked, it was the SD card itself , once I changed it, everything went fine. But the ROM theme is a bit dark and still the menues in English.
Anyway Thanks a lot for the support

I assume you mean the Sprint Epic 4G Touch which is completely different than AT&T's i777. Either way, I don't think this will work for your friends phone. He may be able to get a custom ROM (such as CyanogenMod 9) which would have Arabic built in. Look for it in the appropriate forum for your friend's phone.
Hope this helps.

Be careful - some of the ICS installs have a PIT file and are flashed in Odin.
DO NOT FLASH THESE.
As of today, the ONLY reason to EVER flash the I777 using a PIT file is to recover from a situation where you screwed it up by flashing something with a PIT file.
Nothing good can come out of flashing using a PIT file on the I777 at this point, nothing! So DO NOT FLASH anything that includes one!
Things might change when we get official ICS, but right now - DON'T DO IT.
I flashed the first i9100 leak using odin on my i777, and it workt just fine, only played with it for like 5min since ril is busted =/, tho he can flash i9100 cm9 just fine(after taking out the ro.productdevice=i9100 string out of the updater-script) and play with ics a bit, tho like we all know no mic on calls/no back/search keys(tho it can be fixed with gb /usr and a kernel edit) =/

I think, once we start getting ICS for the i777, the device will have to be repartitioned. In HC (and ICS), /data and /sdcard (/mnt/sdcard) are no longer seperate partitions. If I understand ODIN properly (and I don't), that would imply a PIT file, correct?

[Q] What should I do once I have bought my SGS2 I9100 (non-G)

Hi I've bought myself the SGS2 (non-G version).
now, to root, do I use the method here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
and let's say i have rooted it using CF-root 5.2, do I just pick a ROM and start flashing them? Or do I proceed to flash a Custom Kernel first before the ROM?
Anyway, I noticed that there are 2 sections for the SGS2G and the SGS2 (non-G). Which ROMS do I select from and are the ROMS variant dependent? means if I have the non-G version, I cannot install a ROM from the SGS2 Original section? A little help please! So sorry for being a noob.
Yes follow those rooting instructions, after the phone is rooted download a rom and copy it to your phone then flash it via cmw or manually via recovery mode, reboot while holding power, home and volume up.
Personally I recommend bezke UltraIcs, using it without issue

1st thing you do: read, read, read.
You can use whatever root method you feel comfortable with. I've used CF-Root, Odia's insecure kernels, SuperOneClick, and flashing Siyah kernel. They all work fine.

Most ROMs come with their own kernels, so if you flash a custom kernel, then a ROM, then the kernel that came with the ROM will overwrite whatever custom kernel you flashed first.

What 2 sections do you mean? The Galaxy S II Original Android Development, and the Galaxy S II Android Development forums?
It's important to note that these are not G and non-G. Original means developed from the ground up. (think CyanogenMod) The non-original generally means derivative from another ROM - usually stock.
I9100G ROMs are scattered throughout the I9100 forums, because there is currently no separate forum for the I9100G. The post title for these ROMs should always note that they are for the I9100G instead of the I9100 though. As long as you follow my suggestion for 1st of all above, you should be fine.
If you have the i9100g choose the roms that clearly indicates i9100G only in title, otherwise it should work just fine for i9100. Roms in original development indicate roms built completely by the developer hence the original. The Android development roms are roms that could be based off of someone else' rom or similar. You can flash roms from either section.
Just make sure to properly flash them and never forget to make a backup.
Edit: ctomgee answered.

I am on stock XXKI3, which is 2.3.5, with Siyah Kernel 2.6.4. There are newer firmwares, and newer versions of Siyah, but I feel no need to upgrade as of now. I've modded my firmware myself pretty heavily, and prefer to do all the tweaks myself. Helps me understand how my phone works better.
If you're interested in a kernel that will help with battery, look at SpeedMod, then maybe Siyah. SpeedMod users swear by their battery life. I use Siyah because it has more features, and has more customization. But it's a preference thing.

Yes, should be. Though be careful - flashing some kernels automatically installs certain versions of CWM. If your backup is made in a different version of CWM than what you are trying to restore from, it may not work.

seems pretty interesting the way you mod your phone! and by modding the phone yourself, you mean you take apart tweaks from different ROMs and install them in your phone? The more involved mods I have are:
Phone.apk tweaked to have Noise Reduction off by default in phone calls
Battery icon with % in status bar
CRT-off animation on screen off
Rotation animation in UI
The first three involved decompiling the files involved, editing the files, and recompiling. The rotation animation involved downloading some files that another kind soul posted that were from the Galaxy Note and installing them on my phone in place of the files that were already there. All require root. You can find all of these in the forums with a search...

The first three I think are build dependent. Some people have tried different versions on other firmwares and had some success, but others, not so much.
The rotation animation one, I'm not sure about.

[MOD][UPDATE] XXLPH/XXLPJ/XXLPQ I777 Kernels - Stock and Siyah+My UPDATE MIUI Kernel

I didn't want to have this get lost in my other threads so I decided to make a new one.
These kernel's have the necessary in-call patch to work for our phones. I have attached a flashable zip so you can flash the I9100 ROM (Only for LPH based ROMs) of your choice and then flash this kernel.
LPQ for MIUIv4 2.3.23 - With NO Screen on/off bug (GO THANK ENTROPY FOR SHARING THE SCREEN ON/OFF BUG FIX)

Steps
1. Do usual wipes
2. Flash a I9100 ROM that is LPH based (pretty sure it is only Sammy based ROM's right now)
3. Flash my kernel.
4. Flash a Modem from our I777 collection.
4. Reboot.
LPQ ROM's verified working on with LPQ kernel
1. CriskeloServanTeam V05
Sammy ROM's verified working on with stock kernel (Thanks cjsabaki)
1. Wanam lite ics rom (has a phone apk with no noise suppression)
2. ICS resurection (It is flawless, has everything working, including: camera, video, usb, external_sd)
AOSP ROM's verified working on with Siyah kernel (Thanks cjsabaki)
1. MIUI v4
2. CM9
3. AOKP Hydro1.5 ROM
4. Bezke's AOKP build
This does not fix the in-call Noise Suppression issue, that is a modification to Phone.apk so be forewarned
Click "Thanks" if you like what you see or donate with my link.
See Entropy's thread/links here that showed me the way to getting the kernel to work on our phone:

Haven't tried, give it a try let us know.
For the brave... wanam lite ics rom has a phone apk with no noise suppression. And wescrips ics resurection is flawless.
Remember to flash i777 modem of choice after flashing Ktoonsez's kernel.

Ok thanks, I'm staying on AOKP for now
gonna try this out
I'm gonna try this out but want to make sure I flash the correct modem. Where do I get the KJ4 modem that will work for LPH releases? I've found the Modem post in the original development section and the CM9 modems that task650 posted in the CM9 i777 post. I'd appreciate anybody's proper guidance.
I tried Siyah's ICS 3.0alpha3 for just testing fun last night (knowing calls won't work - just playing), and it had a much smoother scrolling/UI screen feel to it. Would it be possible for you (ktoonsez) to combine / share your collected mods on getting the ICS kernel to work on our i777 phones with gokhanmoral, so he could offer up a Siyah version for our phones? Just wondering... thanks... appreciate all you do for us man!

Take your preferred modem from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1361393
Then follow op instructions. Basically, Wipe data, flash ICS LPH rom of your choice, flash gapps, flash this kernel, flash your modem, reboot
FYI, I flashed Westcrip's rom earlier this morning using the above mentioned flashing process without issue. I actually prefer Bezke's AOKP look and feel so I went back

Yes I can hack his kernel so it will work with ours. Looks like he is on alpha 4 now. Does anyone know how to contact him, probably should contact him before doing it?
EDIT:
Whihk ROM or ROM's did you use it on?
Also be aware, since there are no sources yet (direct quote from his site):
Warning: this is not a compiled kernel but only a repack of cfroot kernel. only initramfs part is modified until the sources are out.

Thanks that would be cool if you two could collaborate. I am currently on latest AOKP rom. Alpha 4 (whatever is most current) would be the one to integrate. I am happy to test before you release - just pm me the details. Thanks!

Tried Resurrection and Wanam as well as Cm9 and aokp. I liked the cm9 and akop but no adobe flash support. That's a must for me.
I'm back to Wanam now, it seemed more stable than Resurrection. It's been fun playing with these. Thanks to you guys that have made this possible.
I'll see how this does on battery over the long run now.

Hellraise GT-I9100 Jellybean for SGH-I777

This thread is to help people hellraise a GT-I9100 Jellybean 4.1 rom for use on our AT&T Galaxy S2 SGH-I777.
Get what you need as of August 1, 2012:
1.) Download a Jellybean 4.1 or 4.1.1 rom from the GT-I9100 forums. (NOTE: do not use from the I9100G, the hardware is different)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1055
2.) Download a JB compatible SGH-I777 kernel. The following have compatible versions:
- Dream Kernel ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788148 )
- Siyah Kernel ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592228 )
3.) Download a CM9 SGH-I777 modem (this is AOSP based and needs a CM modem)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1336958&highlight=cm7+modem
4.) Download the Hellraiser zip I have attached to this post. This adds the needed keylayout and lib files for the SGH-I777.
Move the files to your internal SD card on your phone.
INSTALL ORDER:
1.) Boot into CWM recovery and do a Wipe/Factory Reset, Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik Cache, Format System.
2.) Install the Jelllybean GT-I9100 rom zip (Note: if the rom uses AROMA installer, do not reboot after install)
3.) Install the SGH-I777 Jellybean compatible kernel.
4.) Install the Hellraiser zip from this post to get the correct keylout for you SGH-I777.
5.) Install the SGH-I777 CM modem. (all JB roms at this date are CM10 based)
6.) REBOOT and get you some Jellybeans!
Credits go to Team Skyfire for the Dream Kernel, Ktoonsez and Gokhanmoral for the Siyah Kernel, RockRatt for the modems, and drakester09 for the keylayout and lib files in the Hellraiser zip attached. Thank these awesome devs every chance you can get!!
Thanks for putting together these directions.
Does this hellraiser package also change the build id back to i777 or will it still be i9100?
Because the original ROM creator may have tweaks in the build.prop I figured it best to leave the device I'd alone.
You can manually change the build.prop to show SGH-I777 if you need it.

Hey ts, thanks for the great tutorial. Just a question, has anyone successfully ported a JB rom with this tool?

Yes, I'm currently using the 20120801 release from GT-I9100 CM10 thread from below. I did have to change the build.prop before it would flash via CWM. The easiest way I found to do that was to run it through Flash-aholicsTool and just check mark strip out device specific script calls and change device name to I777. (I did not check Hellraise option) Then follow the directions in the OP.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1794758
I am on my 3rd GT-I9000 JB ROM and I use this method. It is not a tool just an easy way to add the proper key layout and libs for SGH-I777.
I manually select the build.prop with Root Explorer to edit in text editor.

Just wanting to verify if I'm using a GT-I9000 JB ROM that is hellraised would I use a kernel WITH mic swap or WITHOUT?
I'm assuming that it would be WITH mic swap.
Thanks.

With mic swap is for AOSP based like CM10 or for a GT-I9100 ROM.
Without mic swap is only for AT&T leaks/ROMs like LE5 or LD3.

Instalation aborted!
Hello my friends, i followed all the tutorial, but when i will install the Jelllybean GT-I9100 rom zip i get this erro message:
Error in /sdcard/cm-10-20120801-EXPERIMENTAL-i9100-CODEWORKX.zip
(Status 7)
Instalation aborted.
My galaxy S2 is the i777 from AT&T and i think i did all the tutorial right!
What do you think is going on?
Thank you!
Using Entropys ICS Hellraiser, I packed it with The Dream JB Kernel and a new modem. So all you have to do is flash this after you flash a i9100 ROM and it does everything for you http://db.tt/dEfrVjGB

You need to go into your build.prop and chage GT-I9100 to SGH-I777 & I9100 to I777. Or extract the build.prop from the cm10 zip and replace the one in your phone with it.

This solution will work and is essentially the same as what I described in the OP.
My method is just a bit longer with the exception of choice in the future of newer kernels and modems that may be created.
As for the status 7 error...you need to unzip the JB ROM you have chosen and edit out any device scripts in the install that check for a GT-I9100 OR you need to edit your current ROM's build.prop to show GT-I9100 instead of SGH-I777 BEFORE you reboot into recovery to flash the JB ROM.
Some ROMs have a device script that verifies you are flashing to the "proper" device.

I tried to flash RR_Jelly_Bean_V3.0.1_Aroma with instraction first post but all time it hanging on RR bootanimation. I tried defoult, light version , same problem.
Before flashing wiped all and format system.
After flashing tried wipe cashe and dalvic cashe, same.

Did you get the Siyah CM10 Test Kernel or the normal ICS 3.5.1 version? I would bet the 3.5.1 ICS version. My apologies...I should have been more specific.
As far as I can tell, the Siyah kernel generated by Ktoonsez for the SGH-I777, has separate ICS and JB versions. The GT-I9100 Siyah kernel is version 3.5.2 and seems to be for BOTH ICS and JB roms but that is only for that phone.
At this time, Ktoonsez' Siyah has mic swap and no mic swap versions for ICS 3.5.1 but the CM10 test kernel seems to be without mic swap, which would cause your call audio to be low since the top mic is being used instead of the bottom mic. Without mic swap is only for AT&T leaked roms (and we all know AT&T won't be releasing JB to us anytime soon). Please go thank or donate to Ktoonsez anyway because you know he will be on top of this in the future. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592228
I would highly recommend the Dream kernel WITH mic swap. This should fix your problem. Don't forget to Thank or Donate to Team Skyfire if you use their kernel. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788148
I am using the 2.6.9 version of the Dream kernel (with mic swap) with great results. For some reason, which is explained in their thread, 2.6.9 is actually newer than their 3.2.9 version. Something to do with the TWRP recovery for one and not the other.
Please let us all know your results using the proper kernel.
Thank You very match. I flashed Dream kernel and it works fine.
Thanks for your grate jobs.
Hailraising i9100 SuperNexus rom
Hi,
Can someone please help me hailraising the Supernexus rom released yesterday in i9100.
link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810042
I tried to hailraise it using the scripe you provided. When I tried to install it failed with bunch of build.prop mismatch and status 7 error. So as suggested earlier, I extracted its build.prop and edited it to match our device, but still it fails with same error. My proficieny in this area ends here and don't know what else to do here !!
I'm really interested in this build, as this is the only rom thats not based on cm10 exp build , but its made from the aosp source code directly and thus I hope it solves my media scanner issue and I could have a jb rom to work with.
Thanks !!!
