Going to Europe for a month this summer [Q] - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I'm going to Europe this summer --- all over Europe (Germany, France, Switzerland...etc)
I want to bring my Note and be able to use it and it's internet capabilities.
What is the best option?
Should I unlock it and use a European provider? (my dad has some European sim cards lying around that I could use and he could probably add data to it)
Or should I go through AT&T and pay extra to go use it in Europe.
Thanks

Unclock it and use it with local providers.thats what i do every summer i go to europe. +u need a local number to hook up with european gurls lol, they will never call/txt u if u keep ur att #

There is no reason for it to be locked other than its a stolen phone

A, total bs, you really did not think of the fact that a phone from the states would not work in canada? Bull**** you just want someone to get the unlock code for you because you bought the phone not knowing it would not work and are screwed now.
Yes i know stupid mistaek
I bought the american version because the canadian version could not work on my carrier Mobilicity. Most mobilicity phones come unlocked and i thought that because they used the same frequencies that T mobile would too. Yes i know stupid mistake should have done it in america. And it's not stolen

Seriously you two should NOT give answers if you do not know wtf you are talking about. ALL t-mobile Vibrants are sim locked ie you cannot use it in any other country (ie with other carriers, even tmobile outside the US) but the united states and even here you cannot use it with any other carrier except t-mobile. I am about to call tmobile and have mine unlocked too so I can use it in Canada and Europe.
I usually buy t-mobile sim cards in Europe but I need my phone unlocked to be able to do that. But I will admit, since the Vibrant is pretty much the same as all the other Galaxy S phones, I also thought it could be used everywhere Tmobile was available (sans the simlock).
To the OP, go to Ebay if tmobile cannot help you, there are many companies that will unlock your phone for you for a fee. Or you can use the unlock generator from this site (but there have been mixed results with that). But even with the phone unlocked, does not mean it will get all the ranges oversees as it does here. Tmobile uses different Hz oversees than they do in the states so you may not get 3G (not sure, just using my experiences from other phones), so you may wanna check on that before going through all the effort of unlocking etc etc. You may be better off with a i9000 in Canada if thats your primary residence.

Thanks for the help o will look into both those methods you stated
go to Market, and look for SGS Unlock, if the free version can not generate the unlock code, go for the Pro version.. or you could do it yourself for free by following instructions here:

[Q] Traveling in Europe

I will be traveling in Europe soon. Rome, Venice, Lucerne, Paris, and London. Would like to take and use my Streak 5. It is an AT&T radio one that I bought outright and got the code to unlock the sim. Any recommendations on buying a prepaid sim with data that I can use while there? I would like to be able to call home to the US and upload pictures to online photo albums. For uploads I hope to be able to use wifi hotspots but still need data for apps that I want to run. Could I buy a sim ahead of time to have when I arrive? or would it be better to buy once there?

[Q] Sprint won't activate my sim

Sprint won't activate my sim because I have a spending limit and have not been a customer for 90 days. Is it possible to use the gsm internationally with another activated sim card or some other way to get my phone working in Mexico and Venezuela. Thanks
Just buy a sim when you get where you are going locally. Many airports sell them in vending machines. As long as you are outside of the US, your GSM will work.

Heathrow, Stockholm, Helsinki, Sydney, New Zeland, Sinapour, India, South Africa, all have VodoPhone machines.
St. Petersburg, Russia and South Korea I could not find one but to be honest, I did not want to be in either of those cold a** places. Decommissioned some servers and was on the first think smoking outta both of them!!!
BTW: I had AT&T HTC Fuze with the above, did not try Photom in Stockholm or Heathrow because I was lazy!

Might want to get apn global while you're at it too. Helps configure the phone settings for whatever region you're in based on the company the sim you purchase belongs to.

I bought a Sprint Touch Pro 2 and immediately went to India.
I did activate global roaming - which I used for $10 over 6 months (one 2 minute call from CDG).
Otherwise bought an India SIM card and called the US and UK for about 10 cents/minute.
I would think the Photon would be the same, but can't attest from personal experience.

had a global, although job paid, cost was mad
Sent from Photon 4G code name "Neo" using XDA Premium! stupid AND everyone I know will not answer blocked or numbers they don't know. get SIM, turn on data only to update clock when you arrive, to make calls, or if planning business dinner. althoith you have local SIM, moms call from Ohio........I don't need to blow $5.00 to here about church on sindaay!
Do I have to unlock the phone?
No need. It's unlocked for International SIM cards. It will not work on US SIM cards though, because again, the GSM drivers were compiled to ignore US towers...

Prepaid data SIM card while in Germany and Poland?

Hi folks. Lad from the USA here is going to Poland and Germany for 2 weeks. Any advice on where/how to get a prepaid SIM data card? Can it work for both Poland and Germany? And I can just pop it into my SGS II and it'll work straight away without configuring anything?
Thanks.
Ok. I'm in Poland and purchased a Play prepaid sim. Internet works. I purchased the starter kit and refilled at 2gb for 30 zl.
However, the image below seems to say I only have 1.2gb. I don't understand it nor the rest of the text below.
I tried to explain to the guy at the play store and I saw him google "1220mb", which leads me to believe he's a lot more clueless than me.

SIM card in Germany and Poland
rwc..did you ever get a satisfactory solution to your question about a SIM card for Germany and Poland. I'm off to Berlin and then Poland (for the Euro Championships ) in 10 days time and need to sort out my comms. Any advice would be great for a an unlocked Samsung GSM phone I'm getting from Ebay.
Oh lucky you!!!!!! I wish I could go.
in Poland, you can get a prepaid sim data card from Play. It's called Play 4.0 because it works with 4 of their major providers (T-Mobile, Orange, something else, and another something else). The speed is not so bad.
Just pop the SIM in and reboot the phone.

I didn't understand all the details because I didn't speak Polish.
You can purchase a starter kit which gives you like 1GB and then refill. However, the data you are actually allotted doesn't amount to what is advertised.
The sim card didn't work in Germany so can't help you there
Great Sorry for delay in responding..I had a bike accident involving me and a groundhog scurrying across my path and I came out the worst !!
Thanks for the info on Poland..will sort out something else in Berlin, as I can understand a smattering of German.
C'mon the Irish !!
If you purchase an International Roaming SIM when you travel, instead of taking your Germany, Poland mobile with you whilst you travel through Europe, then you should save at least 70% or more. I am sure that you would rather keep your money in your pocket. I'm using holidayphone during my International tour. They providing cheap and best services.

I live in the netherlands and i could not order the DNA in America and sent it to an american friend.
Manly due to my Dutch credit card the order was cancelled.
Then i tried to get in America myself but also there was some resistance in the actual verizon store.
I was not able to but it there without an actual plan.
In a general electronic store i that also sells verizon products I was able to get the DNA without a plan.
Though i am currently having problems with the data connection in the nertherlands (vodafone).
i entered the correct APN's but it still aint working, i can call with it though.
