[Q] Help - TW launcher is not responding - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
After I rooted my phone, I freezed a couple of programs, and got carried away. Now twlauncher is not working. I've tried factory reset. But that didn't work. Now I am stuck at a screen telling me twlauncher stopped working.
I cannot do anything. I am using the danish version of ICS. There are to many threads on how to flash ICS. I have no idea which one to trust, that works. So I would really appriciate it, if somebody could help me. I am kinda scared/freaking out.
Thanks.

Hey. Do not worry. Have you got CWM Recovery installed in your ROM? Go into recovery mode and clear both Cache Partition and Then go into Advanced and clear Dalvik Cache. If that does not work i recommend you flash the most stable rom which is Litening ROM. I am using it for nearly a year and it is the most trustable rom.. Also installation guide os very well provided on Litening ROM thread.

Come on, do the work yourself. 290 posts and you can't be bothered searching?! Use the FAQs and stickies, that's why they're there.
You've given no info as to how you managed to bork TW launcher either. "Got carried away"... "freeze a couple of programs"... Very helpful.
For future reference - always handy to have another launcher installed for emergencies.

I know, I know. I just, freaked out a bit. I did some research, and found the link I was searching for(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278)
But I have a hard time, finding the danish version of ICS..
But do you think cleaning cache and dalvik will help, as post 2 said ?

I just tried cleaning dalvik and cache partition, It didn't work.

Sorry posted by mistake

Don't know if there's a specific Danish version - not even sure if there is an official ICS in Scandinavia yet, never use Kies (I'm in Norway). Scandinavian firmwares have NEE as a CSC code.
Try Check Fus to find the most recent dansk firmware, then samfirmware.com for downloads.
Lykke til.

Here you go.
Edit - or did you mean the firmware file to be installed with Odin, not actually Odin itself?
If I were you, I'd worry about ICS later, and get stock GB flashed first - at least you'll have a working phone. Follow the guides jjegan linked you to.

I get what you mean buy doing the flashing GB. To be honest, I want it to be fixed as fast as possible, and with ICS.
I am gonna flash It now, and hope for the best. Again thank you very much for your help, I really appreciate it

[Q] unrooting sgs2 to stock firmware

Hi guys.
I'm new here so please bear with me if i am in the wrong section.
I've flashed my sgs2 with litening 6.1 rom, and i am really really really glad that i got the rom, BUT... since i am as before mentioned a big ass noob, and since it was a pre rooted rom, so i didn't need to root my stock rom before flashing the litening 6.1 rom, but i made a mistake ... i didn't backup my stock rom ...
so here is the dilema. i want to unroot my galaxy s2 since there is an official 2.3.5 rom for sgs2, and i would really like to get my hands on it since the battery consumption is a huge issue on other roms.
anybody who got 5 minute of spare time to explain which rom (maybe post a link directly for the rom) to install and how to do it ... my friend was all about "flash recovery, wipe bla bla bla" ... that is foreign language to me ...
I am from denmark so i would appreciate if anyone could show me the link to the standard stock rom for scandinavian region. please once again, just writing "flash in recovery mode ... etc" wont help me much ... just a little more detailed description would be appreciated.
in advance thank you for your replies
You can just download the stock rom you want , get your phone to download mode and use odin to flash it. Put the .tar file on the pda section in odin.do not tick repartition!
This will put everthing in stock again including unroot.
Hope this help

About wipe. If you get boot loop then do wipe.
You just need to download one file.no need the separate kernel.

your help is highly appreciated mate
noob asking Q again ... i've downloaded this firmware
GT-I9100_HTD_I9100XWKF4_I9100NEKF2_I9100HTDKF2.exe - 263 MB, BUT ... how the heck do i flash an .exe file on my device?
and i've downloaded this kernel too: I9100XWKF4_Kernel.exe
so, i extracted the first 263 MB file, from exe, and than it turns into .rar file ... when i extract the rar file i get a lot of small files, more than i need to. so how can i install this FW on my sgs2 ? i don't think that it's possible to do through odin ...?? should i put the .rar file on the root of my SD card and than flash it with CWM ??? and should i also flash the kernel or does this first file contain kernel already?

thx mate ... i've been reading that thread over and over again. but just don't know if the .rar file is to be flashed just like that or what? and does it contain kernel already or should i also flash the kernel... big concern as i don't want to lose/wipe my data or brick my phone ... i'm kindda learning how to play around with these rom's, but i will get it eventually some day unless i don't f*** up my phone and give up LOL
anyway, thx a lot for ur help
Yes its all in one file(zip). its as easy as it shows you.
So i flashed that zip file and got bootloop afterwards :-( so i had to wipe my data and than flash the rom again :-( pain in the ass to lose my pwrfect set up.. Now i gotta start from scratch again :-(

Ok, i know this is an old tread, but just to not create a new one, let's use it and ask similar things about backing to stock firmware.
I am about to sell my phone and want to know how to clean internal SD card and let no trace of my files, folders and apps.
How to do that?
Thanks

New to i777, please help

Just moved from iPhone to i777, wanted to get ICS, but eneded up bricking my first phone by installing something meant for i9000. At that time I didn’t know Galaxy S2 has variants, just searched for S2 and got burned. My fault…..should have understood better.
I want to do it right this time so I have been reading about i777, ROMs, kernels, CWM.
I want to put SHOStock or CM9 ROM.
I know where these ROMs are and how to flash them using CWM.
But that’s where my confusion starts, that there are just too many sources and options and I don’t know which one is right.
So please advise.
How do I root?
Using this? It has multiple options
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18576627#post18576627
or this ?
http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-att-galaxy-s2-sgh-i777/
Which kernel to use
The one mentioned in SHOStock thread #3 post the Cherry Picker Kernel for i777 or Entorpy? Siayh
How do I get CWM on these, isn’t recovery part of the kernel or do I flash It separately or may be use ROM Manager, once rooted.
Modem? What does it do? Is it for phone or wi-fi and how do I know which one to use.
My phone’s data
SGH-i777
Android 2.3.6
Baseband I777UCKK6
Kernel 2.6.35.7
Build#
GINGERBREAD.UCKK6
Here's what you need to do:
1. Use Odin to flash stock UCKH7 with Root, available here. Be aware that doing this will require a full wipe, so do what you can to back up your sms/mms/contacts and other data. READ EVERY STEP CAREFULLY. Do not flash a kernel with Odin.
2. Now that you have root access, download Mobile Odin from the Play Store. Use it to flash either Entropy's DD or Siyah. This will install CWM Recovery.
3. Boot into CWM Recovery and make a nandroid backup.
4. Use CWM to flash SHOStock or CM9.
First of all thanks for responding.......
Is there a relation between which ROM will work with which Kernel, I may be wrong but I got the impression, depending on which ROM you are putting, you should have a kernel that supports it.
Also it seems like, ShoStock has its own variation of entropy, named cherry picker.
Thanks.......

Sometimes there is, but it seems like most of the ICS kernels are interchangeable. Just try out each kernel for a few days...once you have CWM, switching kernels is no big deal. When switching kernels, though, it's always wise to flash jivy's Kernel Cleaning Script just before flashing a new kernel.
Can you use CWM to flash kernels as well ? I thought they always have to be done using ODIN.
May be I underestimated CWM, I thought it was for ROMs and zips only.

u can use mobile odin or cwm but its just a matter of preference you just had to use mobile odin at first to acquire a cwm enabled kernel but pretty much you can flash everything in cwm as long as its specified to be cwm flashable zip kernels roms and modems and such
edit: the free mobile odin only lets you flash kernels btw its the premium version that lets you do everything without going to recovery
hope to help

You don't seem to have a firm grasp on all this. Maybe you should do some more reading before going further...
Anyway, here's a brief explanation:
A kernel is the underlying core of the operating system; it is how the OS interacts with the hardware.
A rom (the proper term is actually firmware, but nobody uses it) is basically the whole user interface; it's the part of the OS you see. When you flash a rom, you're flashing everything, including a kernel.
Like I said before, you never want to flash a custom kernel using Odin. Doing so will trip the phone's flash counter, and this will show up if you ever have to take the phone in for warranty stuff.
The reason it's ok to use Odin to flash the stock with root package is that it comes with the stock kernel, not a custom one. Basically, once you're rooted, you shouldn't touch Odin again unless its to recover from a brick. Basically everything else can be done in CWM.
Yes I am still reading & trying to get a grip on it.
So first I will root it, then flash kernel using Mobil Odin
Then get in CWM mode ad flash ROM, which will come with the kernel i.e. cherrypicker kernel and modem I need.
Yes one part I have understood very well is that use CWM as much as one can to avoid committing mistakes by flashing something that doesn't belong.
Sorry for asking so many qs., I wish I could understand this faster.....
Thanks again........

You don't need any more of a guide than that. Don't worry about breaking wifi, that isn't a problem on any of the popular roms.
If you want a Samsung based ICS rom that works really well, I suggest ShoStock2. If you want an AOSP based rom, most people suggest AOKP. I haven't tried it personally.

There is no stock UCKK6 (2.3.6) but you can download and flash a Stock plus root version of UCKK6. See Entropy512's thread which is a sticky in the development forum.
...Or you can flash fully stock UCKH7 (2.3.4). See the link in my signature for the return to the store guide.

I will add this if you flashed UCLE5 via kies or any other method to get your ICS besides AJ's thread you have an unsafe kernel and possible eMMC SUPERBRICK BUG make sure you DON'T wipe data/factory reset before you flash this package do it after you flashed a safe GB kernel... If it were me knowing KK6 2.3.6 has battery drain issues I would flash KH7 2.3.4..... Just use creeys thread to get the files here is the link... GL

You can upgrade to the stock 2.3.6 by downloading the stock 2.3.4 firmware from the download repository here in our forums, then after you are booted into the operating system, go to settings, scroll all the way to the bottom to software update, and it will download and install 2.3.6. I wouldn't suggest it , just because I don't like it or think it runs well, but try it out. Good luck, happy flashing.

Why would they not take it back?? You never flashed any custom ROMS from here right? All you did was flash the AT&T ICS update via kies and it gave you problems right? Want to try out some custom firmwares, but want to be safe at the same time

Hi guys...
I have a galaxy s3 and up to this point I've been pretty satisfied with the original firmware...
However, I'd like to try out some of custom made ones, but since there's a big update on the way, I want to be safe doing so...
What I mean is basically this:
Can I somehow backup my stock firmware, try out some custom builds and then get the OTA update when it's available?
I don't really care about guarantee, but I'd really like the option to get OTA updates from samsung in the future (if I for some reason want to do so).
I remember an old post, where someone talk about this, but I can't find it
Please help me
Most definitely. You can find stock builds here in this forum and simply flash using ODIN to get back to stock firmware when you want to. Be advised this does wipe your data so have a good backup of it before hand.

And then it would be as my phone never were flashed and OTA and other samsung only stuff would work?
You will have to use triangle away or something like that to reset your flash counter if you want to send your phone to repair and make it appear as you have never flashed before but unless you break your phone, don't bother. And yes the other Samsung stuff should probably work.

If you flash your phone with a custom ROM for instance Resurrection Remix or Cyanogenmod you'd not directly be able to restore a stock ROM.
You will have to find one http://androidfirmwares.net that's for your region and flash it through Odin. Then you'll be able to update OTA and KIES.

You mean restoring from a nandroid? Because I was able to restore ICS whilst using JB - I did it multiple times.

Agree the advise given was plain wrong .
Nandroid restore a backed up stock rom yes yes yes .
The only but is that the backed up rom is of course rooted .

Okay... now I'm even more confused
Let me see if I get this right?
One way to do it would be to:
1) Download tools and rom (odin, CM and drivers etc)
2) Flash new cool rom
3) Donwload original samsung rom
4) Flash old boring rom back to phone
5) Use tool to reset counter (optional)
Now, my phone would like as if I had never ever rooted and flashed my rom
Is that more or less correct?

Question about superbrick and upgrading to Cyanogen!

Hey everyone,
Sorry if the Answer was staring me in my face but I'm not sure about upgrading to the CyanogenMod because of the superbricking I might get..
If any help can be given as to whether I am safe to do it, it will be much appreciated, My android version is 4.0.4, Build number imm76D.XWLPT.
I have just rooted it with XWLPW-ROOT-CWM6, and It seems to have rooted fine.
Will be much appreciated if I can get any help as to whether I can Flash it with CyanogenMod and everything will be fine..
Thanks again
EDIT: Yeah I just realized about having the Superbrick bug, I must have a kernel that is not liable to bricking, I rooted it with PhilZ touch 3 and when I go into recovery mode it says CWM Base version: 6.0.1.8 at the bottom, Am I safe from the bug?
You're safe as long as you don't perform a wipe from stock recovery in 4.0.4 (and not all phones have an insane chip). So yes, you can flash CM.

Thanks alot dude!
EDIT: Sorry, do you know which CyanogenMod I should flash? I just want to upgrade to one that is fully working, but there are many in the index and I dont know which one to flash :s THANKS!!
and If I dont do a wipe? wont it be stuck at boot as the Guide says it will?
I highly recommend you read the discussion thread for the version of CM you're wanting to try in General section. So you can get a handle on other people's experiences with it, bugs/flaws/annoyances/features/etc. I never flash a rom without reading the first 10 pages of those threads & the last two weeks or so worth of posts so I know what I'm in for.
I agree. And you always have to perform a full wipe if you change firmware.

yes thank you I will, but do I wipe my phone before I install CM? or..? during it..? I'm scared of this superbricking ^-^, I have flashed my GS1 before with no problems, but problems arose and I've been out of the game for a while, and have forgotten phones and roms etc for quite a bit ^-^
THANKS AGAIN

I assume you've read guides about how to flash a rom? Copy the zip-file to your phone, back up, wipe and flash.
You don't have to be scared of this superbrick bug because you're already running a custom kernel.

Well, I was trying to root my phone so I don't think so, now that I think of it no, its only root and clockwork recovery mode thingymajig because file size only 7mb so if it was only root, my build number and everything is as same as before ^-^,
That's what I am so confuzzled about, I need to downgrade to a custom rom that must come with a custom kernel right to be able to upgrade to cyanogen right...? otherwise ill brick it?
No. Make sure you flash a custom kernel (for example Siyah) with Odin. Then there's no need to flash other firmware first before upgrading. Just wipe your device in CWM (after the back up), and flash the rom you want.

Thanks, thing is a lot of things are outdated like the guides, do you know if I can use the latest odin which is out that apparently is for the S3? I've spent two days trying to do research on this and im failing quite badly :'(

Make sure you have kies installed or at least the drivers.
Reboot into download mode
Run ODIN 1.85
Flash Siyah kernel (.tar) via PDA section
Boot into recovery run backup
Wipe data/factory reset
Flash CM zip file.
