[Q] ICS Rom SGS2 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Which ICS rom for the SGS2 you most reccomend ?
I need a stable rom that support normal life battery and it would be nice if it will be fast also..
sorry if I sound stupid its my first time here

Try them and see - no other way, no short cuts. Your phone use is different to mine and everyone else's.
I've tried eight or nine now, and haven't seen one that's quicker than my GB setup. Of course, YMMV.
By the way, threads on this topic are frowned upon because of subjectivity - don't be surprised if a mod locks it.

LPS stock

I've tried a few roms and stock and so far wanamlite has on balance been the best experience. Its has excellent battery life, about the same as the stock rom in my experience.

[Q] Best ROM

Can someone tell me, by experience what's the best ROM regarding to battery life ?
The best way is experience your self.I am now on Cognition 1.7 and i am happy with it.Litening rom is also very nice .But the best way is try out your self
it's true but there's too much roms lool
anyways i'll try that you're using
tks
Hi,
I think cognition is the best

whilst others use villainrom and believe it enjoys better battery life.
Villian 1.4 is my ray of hope atm. Its amazing .

I like Litening Rom but asking for someone's opinion will get you subjective results. Just try them all. You'll become a flashahlic and it will be hard to go long without trying them all. Then when new versions come out, try those and so on and so on. Once you're hooked it won't stop lol
Just like SGS1 forum their is no best rom if their was a best rom their would be no other roms.
jje
You will have to try it yourself, which suits you more. I'm on Lite'ning rom and it's ok for me.
Lite'ning Rom v1.5 XXKF2
IMHO --> Lite'ning Rom v1.5 XXKF2
the best in terms of battery life ROM is the ROM after installing which you manage to configure the phone in the most optimal way.
Unless there is a glaring omission in some ROM, they are all pretty close to each other in terms of battery life, and your batt life will depend on how much bloatware you install in that ROM and how many services you enable.

Best rom battery wise

So im using MIUI Galnet ICS with Siyah kernel, and i completely love almost everything about this rom, but i say almost because my battery life is not so good i get like 13 hours with pretty low use.
So my question is:
What rom has the best battery life, fairly smooth and stable (battery life at highest priority)? What would be the best kernel (battery wise) to use with this ROM?
Another question kinda not on topic but anyways;
If my phone fell a few times (sometimes on side, sometimes on screen sometimes on back)(with screen protector and back cover) can any of the internal components get damaged? cuz sometimes the phone gets minor freezes.
P.S.
I have been told CheckromRevolution 5.5 is probably one of the best roms battery wise, the thing is there is CheckRomRevolution HD 3.1.x now
So which CheckRom ROM has best battery life?
The best ROM for battery life is the one which is so bad, it makes you not want to use the phone.
Currently using Simple and Clean with Speedmod. Pretty good, but it's just my first discharge cycle so I can't judge yet, but I definitely see some improvements from Litening. CheckROM and Sensation 1.9 also seems decent. Cognition as well.

This will depend on so many variables, network, location, Modem, ROM, Kernel, user installs of software, wake locks, bad signal.......
Hence the only way to find is via flashing bedding testing....
As you will notice users can have same setup but very different outcomes..
Using CWM backup you can always revert to stable setup.

[Q] most promising ROM and KERNEL combo?

Hey guys,
I have a question, I have my SGS II, and I tested out alot of roms and kerenels but I just cant get to a promising results regarding battery life.
My question is:
What is the most promision ROM and KERNEL combo for BEST battery life?
Really? Really? Seriously?
I think you should use stock Rom
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Yea... Stock if you want battery
Unfortantuly my stock rom sucks, laggy and ****ty.
And cmon guys stop tagging this post as span n other **** I am new to this all new android stuff and I see people with effin 3 days of battery life while in 100% mine only lasts for 8 hours.
Be more serious.
So, did you read up on how they were getting it? (3 effin days battery)
Have you then tried the same thing?
Checkrom revoHD.
Well for me checkrom revo HD with leoMar kitchen app is simply the best. This combined with Dark Knights Siyah kernal is the best combinition for me. I get a full day of battery charge with heavy usage.

Best ROM for my Galaxy S III - battery problem

Hi guys! I am new here, and glad to be a part of this big community.
Recently i bought a new Samsung Galaxy S III. The phone was running stock ICS 4.0.4.
Because i am really stupid, and like to make all my gadgets "better", i installed Jelly Bean 4.1.1 Polonia, from Sammobile.
The problem is... THE BATTERY, IT'S HORRIBLE! 3-5% over night discharge, with 30% light, no Wi-Fi, no Sync, only H+.
In a little game, like Doodle Jump, Jetpack Joyride or Jumping Slime, 15 minutes of gameplay and 3-4% battery is gone.
I have the Clockworkmod recovery installed, and i did a full charge and wipe battery stats... the battery got better, but no like on ICS.
What should i do... i would like to install ICS back, but i see that it's kind of laggy, and doesn't got manny features.
I don't like to install a Custom ROM, like Ressurection Remix, AOKP and stuff like that...
Furthermore, on the curent Jelly Bean i was had installed Siyah Kernel and i undervolted my CPU with -50mV, and still no improvement.
What should i do? Back to ICS? The battery life was great in games/aplications...
Thx for any reply!
Cheers!
no, no, no, no, NO!! Best rom threads arent allowed and are not looked upon lightly! Roms are entirely based on personal preference....flash a few and see which ones offer the best battery life FOR YOU!! And its not unusual for games and mobile data to use battery. Its inevitable really dude....

No... the thing is, i want a RECOMMANDATION, for the best stock ROM. On this forum there are many Galaxy S III users... what is the best ROM for their devices?
For me, the best ROM, was ICS 4.0.4, and i hadn't got any major battery drain like this. But i want to hear some opinions on this subject.
And no more useless reflashing... i am afraid that my NAND will be corupt. I flashed my phone like 5 times in a week, trying to establish the best ROM.

install the app better battery stats, and charge your phone up then leave it to idle for a couple of hours then report back with screen shots of kernel wakelock, and partial wakelock
Apart from that Google now causes some extra drain due to using location services.check what you are syncing (I suggest getting rid of the whole Samsung account/backup set up and disabling Google back up
3-5% isn't really that bad, neither is 3-4 % in 15 minutes of gameplay, considering normal screen on drain is approx 10%/hour

You said it yourself "trying to establish the best rom" their is no best rom....what gives you huge performance in terms of battery might suck for someone else....every device is different. And if you flashed your device 5 times in a week then my nand must be screwed because ive tried every galaxy S3 rom. It takes more than you think to damage your nand dude

Ok... i will install ICS back.
The JB battery really sucks. Only 5 minute call and checking some emails and 7% gone.
I think the battery is exactly the same..i was getting 6hrs screen on time on 4.0.4 and im still getting 6 hrs on dlib and its much faster

InsertCoin is best.
It haves stock (stable) kernel, full debloat (~100 mb more ram), alot of optional user tweaks, and many behind the scenes mods for maximum smoothness and perfomance
If only people could understand that what's best for Person A, might not suit Person B at all. It's a matter of one's own preference and it's imperative to try roms out yourself.
sigh.... I'm just going to paste my response from one of the many other best rom threads
These best rom threads are getting out of hand...
What's the best rom for me might be the worst for you.. It's subjective.
It's like asking who's the hottest girl in the world, or which sports car is the nicest.. It all depends on the person being asked and if you ask in a forum you will be a different answer from everyone.
The only way to find out the best rom for YOU is to try them all until you find the one that's "best" for you and your needs..

Battery life on Shostock3

Okay. So I am currently running shostock3 on my sgs2 with siyah kernal. I read the article from zedomax on galaxys2root.com that it has very good battery life and very stable but when i am running it, I have terrible battery life and i am currently underclocked or whatever the word is. Is there anyway to fix this?
My advice, run SHOstock3 as it was released. It runs great as shoman94 dev'd it.
...and stay away from that web site u mentioned.
Stick to XDA. Period!

Yes. I'm running shostock3 with the included kernel and get good battery life.

Getting great battery life on Shostock3 V3.0. Flashed the AJK 1.52s kernel. Checkout Better battery stats...see if you have wakelocks killing your battery. And..I agree that website is no good..stick to XDA.

Most people get really good battery life on SHOstock3. Just search the SHOstock3 thread for the word battery to see what I mean. If you're not getting good battery life, you need to find out what in your configuration is causing the problem, and fix it. There is a thread in the general section started by Entropy512 that you should study to help you identify where the problem is.
I was on GB ShoStock for a long time thinking ICS and JB would never leave me satisfied on battery life.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1353513
Finally came to my senses and tried out ShoStock 3 and have never looked back. To make it short the best Rom Ive ever flashed for any device I have had in the present and past.
You definitely have a rogue app killing your battery, find out which one it is and uninstall.

Sorry you have battery life problems.
I have been running Shostock3 since it came out (it's version 3.02 today!), but I also been on and off at least five (wow can it be that many?) JB roms on my SGH-i777 (won't even mention the # GB roms here!). After trying many, I must agree with the other posters who state that this rom delivers very good battery life when compared to stock and when compared with other custom roms.
Lately, it has delivered the best battery life I have ever had on this phone using any rom (although SlimBean JB provided very very good battery life for me recently as well! Also UnNamed was great for battery life in the old GB days )
I followed the recommendations made by creepyncrawly to read Entropy's (& others) battery notes/faqs. They provide some really good background, some with that typical "XDA flavor" (read technical!. That material, plus some more plain old simple user adjustments to how and what I use on the phone have improved my phone's battery time; and it might help you as well.
It really boils down to the fact that each phone user loads different apps and our usage patterns vary.
Assume that you've flashed it and let it settle for a few days and several recharge cycles. After doing this you can see what YOUR "norms" are. They may be good or bad, but that's the baseline for you with this rom and with the apps and usage pattern you have.
(You can tweak voltage and speed (well, not speed on SS3!), but my experience has been that the more noticeable changes will be by adjusting your pattern of use, or doing the "hunt for the app" (or apps) that are burning down your run times when not in use.
Not many here seem to like or do this, but I would also try one of those "help-you-with-battery-use" apps --like juice defender (Ok, I get that many here seem to think it a waste, but it really did help me --a little-- when I used it); or get DS Battery saver (a bit more aggressive and noticeable, but you also notice the lag while you wait for things to turn on when you want them).
Actually, these may not be precision solutions, and don't focus on your specific phone app use, but they do work in a macro way to slow battery use and simply working with them for a few days or weeks will provide you with a better a sense of what the heck is going on under the plastic; they will cause you to look at what you have/run and when.
Oh, this includes using Better Battery Stats, which is fine for reporting out exactly which the apps behave --or don't-- and by how much and when. I'm not slow (well, that slow but it frankly, it took me quite a while to figure out what I was reading in the BBS readouts and what they meant! (Now, after a year+ or so of using it, I don't even have it loaded, since I've done the fiddling I need --and BBS, plus those other battery apps, helped me to figure out what apps worked well, what apps I was willing to sacrifice battery on and what apps were useless and should be tossed.)
Finally, some roms just don't work for people! So it's not worth the frustration chasing something you may not be able to achieve with this or another rom. (You probably read how individuals have problems that you don't -yet, you run the same rom and the same phone! That is our world. So, too, you will read about some who make amazing claims on how long they continue on one charge. Some are pretty amazing, and some may even be real
My final five cents would be:
#1 run the rom a couple of days, get a baseline. Then switch from Jeboo kernel to AJK's latest for TW (I think it is 1.25ss, but I really also had great results from 1.48s) and run it a few more days. They were pretty much even for me, but others find one or the other kernel makes a real difference!). Compare after doing the same activities through a charge or two.
#2 If your battery life remains "poor," note what poor really is (ex. how much screen time? and how much total run time prior to getting to zero or 10-15%? ...something like that).
#3. Then get BBS and one of the "automatic" battery-saver programs and work with it for about 4-5 days and that many recharge cycles. See what your norms are but do it for the same type of usage!!! If better while using the battery fixers, then you can work at picking off the app or apps that are sucking your battery more than you want. Not as tedious as it sounds. Of course, staying with a rom for three weeks might be a challenge , but this is a nice rom to work with.
#4. I don't think you will need to under-volt to get good BL. I wonder if your phone is stable in doing that? Or, does it induce additional lag? That might be a high price to pay for more run time. (You could compare the UV results with your "norm" as well!)
#5. Finally, we are on Galaxy S2 Sgh-i777 -and can change batteries all day long for not so much per battery! It is not elegant, but it works. (Done it myself several times -even with good battery life).
Good Luck!
Best ROM, Good battery life... been with Shoman's ROM since shostock2 never have a problem with the battery life...
