i dont have "insurance" so i just cant get a new one
CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM???
NEW MESSAGE POPPED UP: the device is unable to boot beacuse either you have turned off the device incorrectly or tried to install an application from an untrusted source. press the volume up to reset your device or press any other button to cancel. this operation will delete all your personal data and restore the device to its factory settings.
You have to hard reset the device, like the message stated. If that doesn't do the trick, boot it in tricolor mode and reflash the ROM.
<SOLVED>
Problem solved. Factory reset. Good thing i had back-up.
[please spend some time to read this long post and please help me]
i wanted to do a factory reset so i followed this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420408
and what i exactly did is:
1. i didn't turn the nook tablet off. i went back to the home default launcher.
2. i hold down the power button first, after that i simultaneously hold down the home (N) button.
3. i saw the nook tablet turned off (i saw a black screen, so i thought it was turned off), and then at this time i released the home button and the power button.
4. as i said before, i saw it turned off, so i turned it on and it start flashing the screen, stuck at "read forever".
and then i chatted with nook support, they said i need to do a factory reset (which is what i tried to do before) and they told me to follow this:
I see. It seems that we may need to do a factory reset on your NOOK. Before we proceed with this, please be advised that doing the factory reset will delete all of your personal files permanently, so I advise you to back them up. For your BN contents, they will be recovered immediately after we do re-register your device. Lastly, please take out any SD cards installed on your NOOK.
Now, please do the following steps after fully charging your NOOK:
1.Hold the power button down until NOOK Tablet is powered off, ignoring the "Power off" prompt.
2.After Your NOOK is powered off hold the "NOOK Home Key" down then simultaneously hold down the "Power" button, release the buttons immediately after the “Read Forever” logo disappears.
3.If successful, a grey NOOK Logo will appear and the screen will refresh momentarily and flash yellow. A prompt will appear asking if you would like to perform a “Factory Reset,” Tap the "NOOK Home key" to confirm. Tap the "Home key" again to begin the process. If not, re-do step 2 process again.
4.After a few minutes your device will reset and re-install all necessary software. Once completed, you will have to register the device again.

i know it's similar to the guide at the thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420408). so i tried it. and the confirm screen showed up, i confirmed, on the screen it was "Clearing data".
i thought i was successful. but NO, after it cleared data, it reset the nook tablet, and again, stuck at "read forever".
so i turned it off, and come to this forum to post this thread, PLEASE HELP ME
additional information:
- i took out the SD card before i do the factory reset (because they said that), but when i tried the first time (after reading the thread at XDA), i didn't take out the SD card (16 GB)
- they said i need to do after fully charged, but i did it when my battery was like 30%.
- last time i did a factory reset, i saw after it cleared data, it also restore factory setting, ("please do not turn off your device..."). but this time it didn't do that.
is it because the battery is not good enough so it didn't do the factory reset?
p/s: i'm charging it when i post this thread, and waiting for your help. i think i will try factory reset again after it fully charged.

Charge the NT up and then just let it sit for about 15 minutes. I had a similar problem just a few minutes ago that I fixed by doing that, clicking on all the "force close" buttons I was getting, rebooted into recovery via the Quick Boot app, and fixed permissions.

i'm not sure what you mean, it stuck at "read forever", nothing else shows up, there are no "force close" buttons and what is quick boot app, how can i do this when i can't even see the home screen.
what i want is just do a factory reset successfully, i don't why it was clearing data but it didn't recover.
Do you have CWM installed internally possibly?
If not you could make a bootable sdcard with CWM and make a wipe data (factory reset) once there.

i don't even know what CWM is,
but can i put the file acclaim_update.zip into my sd card and use it to restore? (i never tried this)
last time i tried this method to root the nook :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488035
but when i boot it, it just boot normally, there was no "Apply update.zip from sdcard" screen
so i'm not sure if the sd works or not

If you're nook tablet is the 16GB model then you can try that .zip but if is the 8GB model then dont try it or you will brick your device.
Your should first read my FAQ - link in my signature (see below).
omg! it's so bad now
i charged the nook tablet while it's turned off, (because i don't want to see the flashing screen - i think it's not good), but i just went to nook support and they said DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR DEVICE WHILE CHARGING.
so what can i do? if the battery is not good, it will not restore (nook support said that when i contacted them),
so the only thing i can do is leave the flashing screen, so it can charge, that will make the screen "dies", probably?
____________________________________
EDIT: don't know why and how but i tried again and finally it restored. i feel better now.
and i see the battery is 84%, which means it did charge, it is charging.
so why do they say don't turn off when charge?
p/s: i think as a newbie, i should not be curious about the stuff i don't know,...

your screen won't die just leave it on it's ok, walk away and come back after 1 hour or so (if your battery was very low).

finally i success (edited in the post above)
Well I read your other thread, and if I read it correctly, didn't you remove the entire /system/app folder by mistake? If possible, why not make a recovery sd card which can be found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1470910 ?
Hi,
yesterday I forgot my unlock pattern and now after too many attempts to unlock, I am getting google sign in option but when tablet was lock my tablet wifi was off so my google id is not letting me sign in,
So can anyone tell me can I start the wifi of my table in locked mode so i can login with my google account?( I tried the keypad wifi hot key buts is not working) or can I factory reset my tablet (my USB Debugging option is also off )
please help if anyone has any other idea to unlock the table.
Thanks
Guys plz help
If you don't mind factory ressetting try this (BEFORE DOING THAT CHECK IF YOU CAN COPY YOUR DATA FROM INTERNAL STORAGE TO YOUR COMPUTER USING THE USB CABLE WITH THE SCREEN LOCKED, AND DO IT. WHEN YOU WIPE PROM SETTINGS IT SAYS THAT IT ERASES PHOTOS (SO I THINK IT ERASES INTERNAL MEMORY)):
Turn off the tablet, I think you can do it from the lockscreen, if it doesn't work press the power button for a long time.
Turn on the tablet holding volume down and power until some text appears in the bootloader screen.
Then wait for the tablet to ask you to confirm what you want to do before 10 seconds (boot android or wipe data).
I don't remember if it was volumen down or volume up, anyway don't worry it appears on the screen. One of these buttons will allow you to choose what you want to do. The other will confirm what you've chosen. Remember to do this last thing in less than 10 seconds or the tablet will boot android normally.
I hope you can wipe this way without having to enter the pattern.
I'm using [ROM]MIUI/CM7 Hybrid v3 multi-lang update 04/07/2012 and haven't had any issues whatsoever. Tonight I updated a bunch of Play Store apps that I've been putting off for a while and the only one that I could think of that could possibly have caused a problem is MiHome. Everything else was a pretty standard app/game.
Well my phone rebooted and now after it boots and shows the lock screen it goes blank a few seconds later. I tried unlocking it before it went blank and and I did see the home screen but it went blank again before the icons showed up. I can tell it's still on because there is a very slight glow from the screen if you look at it from an angle.
PLEASE HELP ME. I have no idea how to fix this and wouldn't even know where to begin!!
You've flashed a ROM before, you should know this already... Reboot into recovery, do a wipe data/cache (factory reset), reboot. If that doesn't work then wipe all and re-flash the ROM+gapps.
If you've been messing with system files, it's probably best to go straight to wipe all and re-flashing.
Re-install apps, re-configure the dozen or so apps you actually use on a normal day-to-day basis, and set a lovely wallpaper when you're done. 1 hour tops.
At the very least you'll be available for phone calls and text messages again within the next 10min.
Next time make sure to do a backup so you can restore a working copy of your data and cache whenever you need.
Unless you already know what the issue is, or how to fix it, sorry to say it, but the above steps are likely the quickest way to a resolution.
You're right I am very familiar with those steps but I can't reboot into recovery or any other method. My screen is blank and everything is unresponsive. The only way I can reboot is to pull the battery. I do remember there is a way to boot into recovery from a power off status but I can't remember how to do that.
BTW...thank you for your quick reply!

Hold down the volume-down key while booting up, when you see the Fastboot option appear, press the volume-down key repeatedly to cycle through the selections until you get to Android Recovery, then volume-up to select.
Try this:
- remove the battery
- press Volume Down and hold
- insert the battery (tricky part when holding Volume Down)
- wait till system menu appears
- release Volume Down
- press Volume Down again few times till "Recovery" shown.
- press Power
Thank you guys (or girls)! That's what I couldn't remember. Wiping now and will reinstall ROM.
Hello, I've had my Alpha for about a month now. Got it for a great deal thru AT&T. It's been working fine... until it got the 5.0.2 Lollipop update. UGH. now its freaking out and half the functions dont seem to be working correctly, The phone app locks up, the lockscreen freezes and displays a black bar at the top, youtube videos crash the phone, and part of my touchscreen stopped responding! Please note NOTHING was wrong with the phone until after this update. the phone has never been dropped or been near water. Any ideas on how to fix this, or do I need to get ATT to replace the phone? it's brand new... i dont want a refurb and thats probably what they're gonna try to stick me with so I'd rather try and fix it. I've already performed a master reset, did absolutely nothing.
Please try to factory reset, but you will lose all of the data (before copying all the necessary information).
Turn off the phone. Then press the buttons: volume+ + home + power for about 8 seconds. You will be in recovery mode.
Then, use the volume+ and volume- select "wipe data/factory reset" and press the power button, and then select Yes and power again.
Then you also do the same for "wipe cache partition".
Then "reboot system now".
