AT&T Alpha Lollipop update borked my phone... - Samsung Galaxy Alpha

Hello, I've had my Alpha for about a month now. Got it for a great deal thru AT&T. It's been working fine... until it got the 5.0.2 Lollipop update. UGH. now its freaking out and half the functions dont seem to be working correctly, The phone app locks up, the lockscreen freezes and displays a black bar at the top, youtube videos crash the phone, and part of my touchscreen stopped responding! Please note NOTHING was wrong with the phone until after this update. the phone has never been dropped or been near water. Any ideas on how to fix this, or do I need to get ATT to replace the phone? it's brand new... i dont want a refurb and thats probably what they're gonna try to stick me with so I'd rather try and fix it. I've already performed a master reset, did absolutely nothing.

Please try to factory reset, but you will lose all of the data (before copying all the necessary information).
Turn off the phone. Then press the buttons: volume+ + home + power for about 8 seconds. You will be in recovery mode.
Then, use the volume+ and volume- select "wipe data/factory reset" and press the power button, and then select Yes and power again.
Then you also do the same for "wipe cache partition".
Then "reboot system now".

[Q] SGS2 rooted, but the HOME button won't work

OKay, I'm an idiot and will admit it. I tried rooting my SGS2... it worked - sort of, but my cell reception dropped completely. The home button also stopped working. To make things worse I went back and tried it again, as well as REroot to fix the problems only to now get myself into a reboot that I cannot get out of.
I am here:
Android System Recovery <3e>
Enter: OK Key. Select: Vol Up / Vol Down
reboot system now
apply update from sdcard
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
The problem is that I can't select the options because the HOME button is inactive. I have tried rebooting, resetting, pulling the battery. Nothing works. I am stuck. Is this what you would called 'bricked'? Forgive me for asking, but I SERIOUSLY appreciate anyone helping me out.
I am contemplating going into the Sprint store to get it fixed. I am aware that voids the warranty?
Thanks...
An Idiot
If you're in recovery menu try using the power button to make a selection.
You probably don't have an I9100 (since you mentioned Sprint) and are flashing stuff for the wrong phone.
Fwuffy86 is right, use the Power button instead. I had the same problem yesterday.

[P] Some options and buttons doesn't respond

Hi,
I have used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171089 to install stock ROM and Recovery.
No I can't access "Settings\Storage and About tablet". I tried Factory data reset but cannot pres the "Reset tablet" button. Same thing when I try to "Power off" the tablet, I can't press "OK" or "Cancel" buttons or any other button.
My problems start 2 days ago when I noticed that Back, Home and all other buttons from system bar doesn't respond or responded after a lot of tries. Strange I could open the Shortcuts t Task manager and all others. Te tablet was in low power mode even if the battery was over 90%. The tablet wasn't rooted and had all updates up to date.
Before all I have tried Factory reset without success.
Next I have rooted the table and tried to install a new ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488596 but the buttons still remained unresponsive. Even more I couldn't do anything because I couldn't press "Accept" button to Licence agreement of Swype. After more research I have installed the stock ROM specified above. Now the Back, Home and Clock works
This is my 3 years old kid tablet and he is crying since the tables broked, PLEASE HELP.

Backup your data, preferrably with titanium backup.
Go into CW recovery. Do a full backup. Then wipe cache, data, and dalvik cache (the third one is in the "advanced" menu). wipe all three again (not necessary, I've heard someone say that this helped. I don't usually do it, but it can't hurt).
Reboot.
If that doesn't fix it, connect your tablet and put a ROM on the root of your tablet (zip file). Disconnect and then do the above steps, but after you've wiped, install the ROM from zip. When it reboots (give it 20 minutes on first boot before messing with it), is the problem solved?
I'm having this problem too. I have completely wiped the memory on the tablet, and have tried many different roms, but nothing seems to help. Can someone please help me?

[Q] Automaticlly re-install 4 O2 apps after flashing any ROM

Hi guys,
My new I9300 is a UK O2 locked phone.
After I got it , I did flash several famous ROMs, like Android Revolution HD, Omega, WanamLite and etc.
THEN, weird thing happened! At the end of ALL ROM's first boots, 4 apps were re-installed automatically, they are Music(Official Top 40), Amazon MP3, eBay and O2 Space.
I tried tons of ways to erase this, like full wipe date/cache/system...., I even use ARHD's Super Wipe to do so. However, nothing changed, they still appeared there
I can't find where are they and why does this happen.
Can you guys help me?
Thanks a lot!!
(PS. I have already use GalaSim Unlock my phone, but nothing changed after that. )
Nobody knows?
Looking forward to help....
THx
You need to Hard Reset your phone before and after flashing any ROM.
So in your case just do a hard reset now and will get rid of the o2 apps.
Hard Reset:
-Turn off your phone
-Press and HOLD Volume UP and Home button and press Power button while holding the other two.
-Wait till you will see the Android logo and release all buttons.
-Wipe data and Factory reset using the volume buttons and the power button( as Select )
-After you wipe data and factory reset , just press power button and phone will reboot.
And with this you will get rid of the o2 apps.

First of all sorry about my English. I wish I can do better.
I got the phone with the rebooting and base on the owner of the phone he said it started rebooting after an update.
Not sure what was of update to but the phone I got always rebooting during Android app optimization stage ( when it updating about 90 files or so) but it got reboot when updating to the file of 57th (So it was not actually working)
I watched and followed the youtube (how to unblock/unbrick galaxy i717) which it used the pda-odin-att-stock.tar file with the ODIN3 V1.85 (I guess that original ROM of AT&T (android version 2.3)
After successful unblock/unbrick the phone the phone actual worked but the problem still. It works but only 2 minutes and the phone reboots.
2/ test redbend fota is one the options you can choose after hard booting the phone using both up - down keys and power key (other options are to clear the cache, or wipe the data..)
That actually happened to me while testing out Bean Stalk(which btw AWESOME ROM). It would do a Random Reboot and continuously do that every 2 minutes or so. The way I fixed it was by doing the following steps:
1) Power off your phone. If unable to power off, remove and reinsert the battery.
2 )Press and hold between both Volume keys and the Power key at the same time until the phone vibrates, then release ONLY the Power key.
3)Continue holding the Volume keys until Samsung appears on the screen. Then release both volume keys.
The recovery menu will display.
4) Press Volume down to move to option 3, Wipe data/factory reset, and then press the Home key to accept.
5) Use Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to navigate in the menu and select Yes- Delete all user data.
6)Navigate to highlight OK and press the Home key to select.
7) Select Reboot system now.
PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS WILL DELETE EVERYTHING INSIDE YOUR SD CARD AS WELL! SO DO A BACKUP BEFORE ERASING EVERYTHING!

Could it be a battery issue? I mean if its not software, it might be hardware. Please check if the battery is fine? If you could elaborate the steps you took or the update process you followed, that would be great.
Don't worry we will definitely figure this out, i know how sad it can be when you are without your phone.

No. Surely it is not about the battery. Battery is full and hold the charge pretty well. As I mentioned I was re-installed the original ROM of the phone and there was nothing much to say about this procedure. After reinstalled the original rom the phone works but the problems is still same (rebooting after 2 minutes), before the the phone didn't work and just was in the updating stage but I guess the time of the updating file was also about 2 minutes.
I believe this is about the software than the hardware issue. I am thinking that I may want to install the newest ROM to see it will work or not but I am in the middle of some works right now and have no time for it. So I am just wait to see if there is anyone had similar issue and follow their instruction. Thank you you all.
I am sure you either have hardware issue or in most circumstances it is a user issue.
Is there any possibility you have not read everything or something you are not understanding?
Those of us responding do so because our methods are tried and true. Nobody else is having this issue.
I just ask is it possible?
Have you confidently tried all suggestions with no shortcuts? Even the smallest deviation can lead to the biggest problems
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
Here is a suggestion:
Please go to stock rom. After Odin restarts the phone...do not touch. Let the phone sit there for a little bit. Then if it restarts u might need to format your internal sd card after formatting system, data, cache and then install rom.
I had to flash it

huawei mediapad s8-701u stuck on loop (please help)

please help me i have had this tablet for a while i would say about 2 years and one week ago i noticed that the tablet shuts off by its self and when i try to open it it would be on loop then i would close it again and again until it opens up with me i would say at least for 4 trys later and it would open up but now theres a huge problem that its stuck on loop and doesnt want to open at all i tried everything i tried holding the power and volume button at the same time and it opened up the settings i pressed everything i even restored and it didnt work i tried to look for a software or something for the media pad but im afriad that ill install a virus or make it even worse pleeease im begging that someone helps me
Did you meanwhile solve your problem?
If yes, can you post solution for others to know?
If you still need help, can you tell if you can manually turn tablet off and boot to recovery (Press and hold Power button + Volume key down and release it when Mediapad logo turns on)?
Have you try to do factory reset (options wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition)? Be warned that factory reset wipes all personal data from internal storage - do don't do it if you have important data on internal storage!!
If that doesn't help you will probably have to take your tablet to repair shop for them to take a look at it.
