I'm just curious, if possible, on a quick rundown on how porting aosp apps to Samsung based roms works.
Ics roms and apps more specifically.

ICS apps are designed to work on ICS versions of Android. You can't install them in an android version lower than 4.0

I think it's possible, because they are both running ICS, as long as you don't want the system apps like Phone or Messaging

Ive tried out many roms both aokp and aosp as well as stock, but is there a rom out there that is just pure ics? Eg stock minus touchwiz and Samsung apps and nothing else changed?

Try the likes of SlimICS in the Original Android Development section. It, however, has quite a few apps removed, or you could use a stock ICS ROM, install Apex Launcher, and Root Explorer, delete Samsung Apps and the Touchwiz Launcher and keep all your favourites. Simple!
Chris.

There is actually a rom called "pure ics", Did you even bother searching?
Why would you even want pure ICS when you can have CM9?
Clearer definitions needed.
By "pure ICS" and "stock" do you mean AOSP-like or the stock firmware that came on the handset in the first place?

AOSP like would be ultimate. Just a stock 4.0.3 rom that has had all samsung addons removed. Basically what a Galaxy Nexus has. All of the custom roms I have seen (even the so called Pure ICS rom) have been modified to perform better or adjust battery life, themed etc.
I would just like to try a pure ics as released by Google, I'd that's possible. Thank you.

The Android 4.2 Jelly Bean Keyboard can be downloaded here as a CWM flashable .zip. I found this on another website (Not XDA) but if it's against the rules to do this sort of thing please let me know as i'm new to posting zips ect. The keyboard is off 4.2 not 4.1. It has the swipe gestures and improved word recognition. The only difference I can see is that the word above your finger when sliding across keys has no box around it. I flashed it and all was well apart from the fact that after flashing it CWM came up with back button disabled and I couldn't select anything in CWM so make a backup unlike me who stupidly forgot in the rush to flash it!

Well I'm running Remics UX but I think Remics CM9 based. You can try it though to see if it works. By the way this i think can be used for the player 4.0 too.

I think it required CM9. I am not 100% sure though. You can always do a Nandroid backup and try it out.

Remics-UX is CM9 based on the SGP 5/4.0, and CM10 on many other devices. As far as I know, Supermaster34 will be porting a CM10 build if/when it's ready for our device(s).
There was an apk but that was only for stock ROMs.

I'll also be developing RemICS-JB for the galaxy player 5 and maybe 4 when they get CM10. CM10 is currently in pre-alpha and can only be used properly on a USA player due to the buttons not working on other versions. I'm planning on making a nav bar add on and trying to implement a home button patch but it may take a while

Hi guys, my first thread here.
I flashed a custom ROM on my galaxy s3 i9300 a wile ago, and I am trying to find it now. I cant remember its name.
What I do remember is that the ROM came with Stweaks installed, and it had somw kind of installation tool whwre you could choose what tweaks you wanted to get installed, and what kernel you wanted to use as welk as what launcher you wanted.
If somebody knows the name, that would be awesome.
Thanks in advance!
Sounds like any other rom around. Stweaks preinstalled means it comes with eother siyah or some other kernel supporting stweaks. The fact that you could customize your installations means it had aroma which all touchwiz roms have.
Impossible to tell what rom you had with that info.

You also didnt have to download new versions of the rom to update it, you just had to update the installer.
Dont know if this info helps at all :/

Nope, I haven't the slightest idea what rom it could be. Complete out of the blue:
Omega?
Criskelo?
Did it come with the Nature UX (stock touchwiz) theme as default or some aosp theme? Was it ICS or JB?

Aww :/
Actually, what I was first trying to do is see if I could somehow keep the stock samsung apps (messages, gallery, camera...) on CM10.1, cause I didn't like its stock android apps too much, but I liked the themes for CM haha I guess you can't exactly do that with CM so I was looking for another more stock rom. Too bad I can't install those CM themes cause there are some really sweet ones.
Cm themes won't work with Sammy roms and Sammy apps won't work with cm
Flash Omega maybe? Completely stock is boring but Omega's awesome

Yes Omega is nice. It's got like 13 themes you can install ^^
I'm using the plain old tw theme though.

Okay, how does someone port over apps from Ice Cream, and Jelly Bean to Gingerbread? I see other people/developers porting apps from ICS to GB, such as apps like ICS Messaging, ICS Launcher, ICS Task Manager, ICS Camera, ICS Gallery, ICS Clock, ICS Calculator and the list goes on and on. While there are a couple apps that have not been ported, such as the browser, phone/people app, email, and calendar; instead of waiting for others to port them, I would just like to learn how to do it myself. Lets say I have the stock messaging app from Ice Cream, how would I make the app compatible with GB, and make it a non-system app? Besides just changing the Android Manifest to be compatible, because I tried that, and it did not work ( I just got Force Close). Any comments are welcome
Anyone?

AW: [Q] How to Port The ICS/JB Apps to Gingerbread?
I'd love the ics mail and calendar! Why don't you download something ported and compare it to the original?
For example, get a ICS stock calculator and a ICS calculator poet for GB and compare the code.

May be I don't fully understand the question but..
Almost every new android version has new libraries, packages, services.
For example ActionBar was included in api 11, so if app using ActionBar to port it on GB you should use ActionBarSherlock, and so on.
Any news? Would really love that calendar and mail

Lol, I decided on 2.2 (min SDK Version is the lowest android version that needs to be installed on your phone to be able to run an app Example; DashClock requires 4.2+ Android Version, but Nova Launcher needs 4.0+ Android Version)
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk 2
Oh, I didn't know sdk version was the same as firmware version. I'm running 2.3. Isn't there a way to fake 4.2 to make 4.2 apps installable on previous versions?

I don't think so... I know editing build.prop can make the system think you are running a tablet, so maybe the same with the Android version. But, even if you can do that, the app will probably force close as soon as you open it up because it depends on something that we don't have in our system. Just like some apps require busy box to be installed, some apps will need a certain version of android to work, but that's not always the case.
