Okay, how does someone port over apps from Ice Cream, and Jelly Bean to Gingerbread? I see other people/developers porting apps from ICS to GB, such as apps like ICS Messaging, ICS Launcher, ICS Task Manager, ICS Camera, ICS Gallery, ICS Clock, ICS Calculator and the list goes on and on. While there are a couple apps that have not been ported, such as the browser, phone/people app, email, and calendar; instead of waiting for others to port them, I would just like to learn how to do it myself. Lets say I have the stock messaging app from Ice Cream, how would I make the app compatible with GB, and make it a non-system app? Besides just changing the Android Manifest to be compatible, because I tried that, and it did not work ( I just got Force Close). Any comments are welcome
Anyone?

AW: [Q] How to Port The ICS/JB Apps to Gingerbread?
I'd love the ics mail and calendar! Why don't you download something ported and compare it to the original?
For example, get a ICS stock calculator and a ICS calculator poet for GB and compare the code.

May be I don't fully understand the question but..
Almost every new android version has new libraries, packages, services.
For example ActionBar was included in api 11, so if app using ActionBar to port it on GB you should use ActionBarSherlock, and so on.
Any news? Would really love that calendar and mail

No, not yet (my computer got taken lol) but I will get it back on Friday because that's when summer starts. I'll try to remake the calendar, but my question is what should my minimum SDK version be?

Lol, I decided on 2.2 (min SDK Version is the lowest android version that needs to be installed on your phone to be able to run an app Example; DashClock requires 4.2+ Android Version, but Nova Launcher needs 4.0+ Android Version)
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk 2
Oh, I didn't know sdk version was the same as firmware version. I'm running 2.3. Isn't there a way to fake 4.2 to make 4.2 apps installable on previous versions?

I don't think so... I know editing build.prop can make the system think you are running a tablet, so maybe the same with the Android version. But, even if you can do that, the app will probably force close as soon as you open it up because it depends on something that we don't have in our system. Just like some apps require busy box to be installed, some apps will need a certain version of android to work, but that's not always the case.

I think it's possible, because they are both running ICS, as long as you don't want the system apps like Phone or Messaging

Better prediction based on previous word typed. It also has some "minimal" aesthetic changes
Do I have to rooted to use this, I'm guessing yes?

As stated in OP you need to be on a 4.0.3+ Rom. I'm pretty sure you need root.

I agree. If you want even better word prediction, I've found that setting auto correction to very aggressive helps A LOT
Any opinions on this vs SwiftKey?

I like swiftkey, especially space bar to enter word. I think the prediction engine in this keyboard is a bit better. I was using swiftkey for a while before switching to this kb. Give it shot, set your auto correction to very aggressive setting and I don't think you'll be disappointed
Installed this and it work perfectly. It looks good and worked good. I didn't use it for to long but the predictions seem to be about the same as SwiftKey. Over all it is a better better keyboard then the stock Android keyboard on GB and ICS but I still prefer SwiftKey.
Good keyboard
Very nice, but ill stick with my ICS for now, simply because I like the comma placement XD

Long press on period gives you comma. Also brings up other punctuation. The dev who ported this KB is very responsive to feedback and it'll be updated nicely

links bug
Hi
There is a serious bug when typing google.com into Opera Browser! It appears that the keyboard will end up suggesting one of previously visited googlelink. Though the extention of the link is high lighted, pressing delete button won't delete the high lighted part of the link. Pls have a look at this.
Thx a lot
So. Its just the 4.1 still? I have the 4.2 with swype integrated. Is this what you have there or is there a difference?

dont think porting system apps from Ios would be possible or if you could you might as well just make a themed version that look like the iOS apps, if there any real features they have over the current android apps? (apart from look)

but porting apps from the iphone by simple replace system apps wont be possible not even in 100 years
Here is a guide to install the samsung apps that you want to your phone.
This isn't everything. Just the ones that were not included with Scotts CleanRom. I need a dev or others to help me get other APK's like for camera and dialer.... things that were already installed on clean rom. - but this should work for some others.
I am no developer, just a flashaholic. if someone can go through these and help me pick out the ones that are "needed" and add others, it would be very much appreciated.
This works with adding SOME other apk's as well
1. Download the zip - HERE
2. Extract the zip
3. All Samsung Apps -> System -> App
4. Delete the apk's you don't want
5. Archive the Meta-inf and System folders
6. Reboot and flash the new zip
7. GOLD!!!!
8. help a dev and donate to them or at least THANK Them

wait a sec. am I reading this right? I thought it was impossible to put samsung apps on AOSP because of the TW framework.
Does this mean we'll be able to use samsung's camera on the google edition ROM (once OP gets the APK)?

The Google edition firmware is not AOSP, it is, for lack of a better description, TW firmware without any of the TW visual frameworks or assets. In this sense, think of TW as Samsung's compiled android code, not a UI.

This is kind of what we've been clamoring for for a long time, yes: optimized Samsung kernel/code, AOSP app/visual framework. It still doesn't quite solve the timely updates issue, as so much of that is muddled by OEM testing, and especially in this country carrier testing, but it's a step in the right direction, because the amount of app/framework development for a newer version is cut down by only having Google apps.

You'd better use random s2 aosp dump, because nexus is 720p and you'll need to rescale apps if you take them from nexus. S2 has the same screen resolution as our device so you don't have to rescale graphics.
