I'm sort of a noob when it comes to this I have the xperia play with CDMA. Is there anyway to crack the bootloader? If not is there any really great roms to use for it? Also can someone give me a very detailed instruction on how to flash a new rom because I really have no clue what I'm doing. I'm up to the point where I did a nandroid backup I don't know where to go from from there. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Root with flashtool which is in Androxyde's thread in dev section. All the ROMs of each version have similar performance and battery will be more affected by your apps/settings so its all just preference. Flashing a new ROM will wipe out all your apps and data but you can restore a lot. Just read and figure out what you want.

This ROM here. The one in my signature is good too but its not as complete as this one yet. But this will erase data. You can use titanium backup to save apps and its settings which you can get from the market before you flash any roms. Keep posting here if you need help getting a phone ready for flashing.
Rendeiro2005 makes this one I posted.
Can anyone give me a guide to do this? I really have to be sure that I won't mess up because I'm giving my Atrix to my dad and he probably wouldn't appreciate a bricked phone. So if anyone can redirect me to a guide or tell me what to do step-by-step, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Thanks! I really appreciate it.
My installation is aborted when I try to flash the fruitcake via CWM. Is there any other way or am I just doing it wrong?
hey guys, well I've just rooted my device as you can tell from the above title. I've downloaded rom manager, have superSU pre-installed prior to the root and now I'm clueless on how to flash roms. what do I do from here? how do I install roms? I've also used sony's backup and restore app to backup my stuff. what's the next approach? help please! sorry guys this is my first time rooting an android device. :/ any help would be gladly appreciated!
What method did you use for root? In order to flash Roms you need CWM recovery. You can get that by flashing any of the custom kernels.

I personally think it's quite weird you don't press the thanks button for TheATHEiST, but when you get an answer you like you actually do. These all are the basic questions when it comes to rooting and flashing etc., and you clearly didn't seem to take the effort to read and search for yourself.
