EDIT: Wifi and Mobile Hot Spot now work for Milestone X2 users on the new Eclipse 2.2 update.
Check it out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198857
I am attempting to pull some files from our Milestone X2 to get WIFI & Mobile HotSpot working on Eclipse 2.1. I have conversed with nitroglycerine33 on this matter and he will work with me pending that he has the time. There are alot of us Milestone X2 users that have flashed Eclipse and all is working quite well with the exception of Wifi and HotSpot. It would be great if we could make this a team effort and get Eclipse working on both the DX2 and MX2 platforms. I have tried the below wifi suggestion by Peperm1nt to no avail:

system/bin/wpa_supplicant

If you can, replace those folders and files, and set the permissions correctly. Use RootExplorer to do all of that. There are possibly 2 or 3 more areas that would need replaced, but im not 100% sure if you need to change them. Let me know how this goes.

Confirmed no go w/ peperm1nt's suggestions on dx2 235/413 kernel which is equivalent to the mx2 kernel. I still have err for wifi on ec2.1

did you use the stock files from the mx2 for those replacements ?
have you tried using any other files available?
maybe try a bunch of different ones from different from your carrier to see if that works? just a shot in the dark
edit
sorry just re read the post and saw you did try the stock files, maybe there were some more needed, I'll look into thus through the day as well
also, are you sure you set the correct permissions? that would be a big step to make sure is correct
I did use the mx2 files not the dx2.

Anyone know what the "2 or 3 more areas" might be?
maybe data/misc/wifi
maybe the way that is set up is different than the Droid x2 reads/uses it
also, found /pds/wifi

I also found system/etc/Android.hardware.permission or something v but don't think that would fix it

I tried these also to no avail. Thank you for all your help
I'm getting a system dump and a mx2 over next few days to help you guys out.. I'll report something back soon.
Edit:
I'm pretty sure most of the files are the same across Dx2 and Mx2, with minor alterations, the problem may lie in the Init area as well, not sure but going to check differentials. Also, someone stated Dalvik and Cache wiping, I hope he did that, I'm pretty sure I told him in PM to wipe, along with the Permissions being correct. I'm going to look into the INIT like stated and other areas that may need attention. I'll try to report back within the week or as soon as I get something updated.
pulled some more files this afternoon, still a no go on my end
Still a no go, just can't figure it out. Any other suggestions?

With Current update Milestone X2 has wifi now! Now just need a tethering app.
I noticed the hot spot still says Verizon, anyone try it?
Edit: Verizon en US was just the default network ssid, changed it to C Spire wireless
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
I did try it. It does work but since I am not paying for the service on my provider it cuts off my 3g connection. So it should still work.
If I'm not mistaken, 3G shuts off by default when Hotspot is activated, they can't both run simultaneously

Do you think? Doesn't seem like much of an upgrade. What's different?
Should I go with that or stick with Eclipse?
I got the email too. Unexpected but welcome nonetheless.
I see that video chat is supported with 2.3.4. Is there any real use for that with the x2 anyways? I thought that required a forward facing camera to use Google Talk's video chat.
I remember p3droid questioning why Verizon even released 2.3.3 when they had a "much better" 2.3.4 update. So there's that.
Also, it will probably have the new Blur that's on the D3 and Bionic.

I also got the soak test email and did the survey for acceptance.
I am returning my phone to stock right after I post this to make sure I am able to update.
I am actually in the process of trading this thing for an iphone 4. I have an upgrade waiting and I can give the iphone to my son. Not sure now that im ready to part with the X2. But I am extremely tired of the absolute necessity to root and tweak this thing to get normal usage out of it.
Well I also got the email so I guess back to stock.... sbf pro here.

Nope I'm not worried, because I'll just SBF back to 2.3.3
That may also be dangerous tho.
And also. Wont every rom we have for 2.3.3 not work in newer so u would be romless forbade little bit right? Unless that is an easy fix/upgrade to make

Yeah ROMs would have to updated to whatever Android version we're receiving. I'm thinking it's going to be 2.3.4 but my hopes are high for 2.3.5 =]

The soak testers promised not to mention any information about the actual soak test. We did not however agree not to mention about the existence of the soak test.
Mentioning that it's coming isn't bad.
Ignore this

lmao 2.3.5 don't get to over your self
I'm too amazed by Eclipse v0.7... I got the email as well, but I really don't want to sbf back to stock in order to participate so I didn't even bother with the survey. But who knows? Perhaps this will be that awesome 3D Blur inherent on the D3/Bionic? I was actually surprised when, upon receiving my first update to gingerbread, the update wasn't more akin to the firmware on the Droid 3.
Hopefully this fixes a lot and adds in some good stuff. Like someone said before P3 said this one is better then 2.3.3 so that should give us hope.
For those wondering when this COULD be out, if going by last update has anything to do with it then it should be in October. Soak test in the middle then release at end or if its more like last one then release during the test...

I really ain't trying to be a ****. People going to talk no matter what. I was just thinking this thread wont last very long since I remember last time some threads being removed so xda didn't have to deal with legal trouble.
And im getting sneaky suspicion it is 2.3.4.
Hopefully give us the right.kernel for everything.
This is the ONLY reason I am gonna sbf tomorrow and wait for this in case I get it by chance. Last year people who didn't sign up for soak got it and WERE ALLOWED TO TALK if weren't in soak group
All I can say is, it's about time Moto. Eclipse will be even better once it's run off 2.3.4. Weeeeeeeeeeee

Thanks for the heads up. If you could use the capacitive buttons and get rid of the navigation bar like with ICS, I would update.
I do not want to lose the screen space, so will pass. The Acer 100 7" looks cramp to me, with HC.
BTW, I got an update yesterday, but was only 27mb, so went ahead and updated. A HC update would be a LOT bigger than 27mb.
I have the Flyer and View and both are staying with GB. Both work great and faster than my Thrive that does have HC.
Need the zip file, urgently...before too many people upgrade without realizing they will be stuck.

At least previous updates did.

It will ask for a confirmation after downloading and before installing. You'll find the zip file on the sdcard, copy it off onto your pc and upload it to multiupload or similar and then delete it from the view.
Will do downloading again. Will upload the zip afterwards.

I think it asks that when you choose to download it. You can pick install now or later. If you choose now, it goes though the process if you click the download when completed.
Both my Flyer and View had smaller updates in the past two days and that is when the option came up.
Was up to 75% before cancelling. Now going really slow. Do you happen to know where it saves after downloading?

*Cleaned up OP. Started collecting too many old links. *
I saw this on the news page and have been following it since then. Google Now finally comes to ICS and should work with any AOSP ROMs.
Latest Development as of 8-6-12: There has been some new developments on this. XDA user cajunflavoredbob has put together a nice write up on explaining everything and new downloads. Check it out here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29756226&postcount=2856
I flashed it right over my ParanoidAndroid ROM and also AOKP and it works great. Should work fine on CM9 as well but I havent tested that. As always, backing up before flashing is a good idea.
VIDEO: XDA member Tomsgt has made a video showing how to install and also a little sample of what it looks on our phone. Check it out here:

I will post here when there is voice search fix. Apparently its getting worked on. As it is right now though, its pretty cool. Searching for stuff works just the same and you get the "cards" feature. I never used the Google search box before so I didnt really mind replacing it.
Bump for OP change.
So far I'm not too impressed with how it works in cm9. It's very sluggish for me, I have to touch the screen after searches to get results to "refresh", and it has caused a reboot twice while doing a voice search. I flashed via cm7 recovery, cleared dalvik and cache. Also for some reason I can't get it to add a shorts team to the sports card.

It is still a little buggy/sluggish. But every feature is present in this. You will get notifications and cards and voice search and it will talk back to you. If you don't even use the built in search now, then you have nothing to lose.

I'm having a serious issue with my Google Apps recently. My stock rom updated over OTA so I had to re-root/reinstall CM11, and when I was installing Google Apps it failed a few times and then worked.
The problem I'm having is that Android Device Manager will be very inaccurate (up to 2,400 meters), and sometimes won't find the device at all. When I am running my stock rom the ADM finds the device very accurately (<10 meters).
I just re-flashed/reinstalled everything and I'm still getting the same issue. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Well, depending on how much time you have on your hands, and everything is backed up. You could use mattlgrof's utility to flash your firmware back to stock, reroot, dont accept OTA, then freeze the OTAupdater with an app like Titanuim backup so you don't get/have to worry about accidently accepting the OTA. And you wouldn't be bothered with the notifications if you use the stock ROM This works even better if CM11 is your daily driver, and you don't really use stock. I assume you are on BMM? If you are on safestrap, you can flash the stock slot with CM11.
If you still have the problem, you will at least know it wasn't the OTA.
So you think the problem would be fixed if I simply flashed CM on my stock slot? I'm pretty sure it was the OTA that screwed everything up. I am on safestrap.

Make a backup and try it. Custom ROM's don't recieve OTA's so... If you flash right now, and the problem persists, THEN use Mattlgrof's utility and blah blah blah, so didn't recieve the OTA, and try then. As long as you used safestrap correctly, the only thing you can lose is time.
If i recovered my stock slot to the point BEFORE i received the OTA, would that undo all the OTA changes that screwed up my phone?
My assumptions would be yes if you had one. At that point, me personally, after verifying OTA wasnt there, I would go back to safestrap and reflash cm11 and gapps. I don't know what difference it would make. I personally am always hinky about dirty flashes and such, so if I think one thing might be affecting something else I wipe and replace both. So I don't upgrade ROMs and kernels much... A lot of time setting everything back up

I would say just do a full clean class of cm11 and gapps maybe unless you just did when you flashed cm11 the last time. I think if you have cm11 and root and safestrap recovery you are good. The stock does not matter any more.

The one thing about avast is it uses root. Idk about gotya can you let me know.
Out of curiosity, are you guys using xprivacy? If so, have you checked to make sure it isn't manipulating GPS for those apps?

No, it is strictly a security app, so permissions for camera, messaging, and GPS. *edit* and gmail account

So I recovered my pre-ota phone and installed CM11 on my slot 1 again. No problem installing gapps, however the android device manager is still having problems communicating with my device. I will try using Avast for now.

Curious, what is the benefit of a root access security apk if you keep debugging off when not using it?
Gotya is imbedded in to the screenlock and standalone so it doesn't require internet access for a server. You can have it take pictures on a failed login, which it will send as well as GPS coordinates of where it took place to your email. You are able to send sms commands to ask it where it is, have it call you, start an alarm if you are in a large room of people, lock the device with a pin even if the SIM has been changed, and also send a message to the thief.
Just wondering if I am using the wrong security

So for me avast works the same except you can control when the gps turns on via sms say if the data is off and gps. everything can be done just with sms. The picture taking It will do but you have to pay for that. I see the use in gotya but I like avast. Also avast antitheft even with a wipe over like say you wipe the phone except the internal sd card it can still work. You will have to look into it.
