[Q] Problem with Gapps, running CM11 latest nightly - Motorola Droid RAZR

I'm having a serious issue with my Google Apps recently. My stock rom updated over OTA so I had to re-root/reinstall CM11, and when I was installing Google Apps it failed a few times and then worked.
The problem I'm having is that Android Device Manager will be very inaccurate (up to 2,400 meters), and sometimes won't find the device at all. When I am running my stock rom the ADM finds the device very accurately (<10 meters).
I just re-flashed/reinstalled everything and I'm still getting the same issue. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Well, depending on how much time you have on your hands, and everything is backed up. You could use mattlgrof's utility to flash your firmware back to stock, reroot, dont accept OTA, then freeze the OTAupdater with an app like Titanuim backup so you don't get/have to worry about accidently accepting the OTA. And you wouldn't be bothered with the notifications if you use the stock ROM This works even better if CM11 is your daily driver, and you don't really use stock. I assume you are on BMM? If you are on safestrap, you can flash the stock slot with CM11.
If you still have the problem, you will at least know it wasn't the OTA.

So you think the problem would be fixed if I simply flashed CM on my stock slot? I'm pretty sure it was the OTA that screwed everything up. I am on safestrap.

Make a backup and try it. Custom ROM's don't recieve OTA's so... If you flash right now, and the problem persists, THEN use Mattlgrof's utility and blah blah blah, so didn't recieve the OTA, and try then. As long as you used safestrap correctly, the only thing you can lose is time.

If i recovered my stock slot to the point BEFORE i received the OTA, would that undo all the OTA changes that screwed up my phone?

My assumptions would be yes if you had one. At that point, me personally, after verifying OTA wasnt there, I would go back to safestrap and reflash cm11 and gapps. I don't know what difference it would make. I personally am always hinky about dirty flashes and such, so if I think one thing might be affecting something else I wipe and replace both. So I don't upgrade ROMs and kernels much... A lot of time setting everything back up

I would say just do a full clean class of cm11 and gapps maybe unless you just did when you flashed cm11 the last time. I think if you have cm11 and root and safestrap recovery you are good. The stock does not matter any more.

Out of curiosity, are you guys using xprivacy? If so, have you checked to make sure it isn't manipulating GPS for those apps?

No, it is strictly a security app, so permissions for camera, messaging, and GPS. *edit* and gmail account

So I recovered my pre-ota phone and installed CM11 on my slot 1 again. No problem installing gapps, however the android device manager is still having problems communicating with my device. I will try using Avast for now.

Curious, what is the benefit of a root access security apk if you keep debugging off when not using it?
Gotya is imbedded in to the screenlock and standalone so it doesn't require internet access for a server. You can have it take pictures on a failed login, which it will send as well as GPS coordinates of where it took place to your email. You are able to send sms commands to ask it where it is, have it call you, start an alarm if you are in a large room of people, lock the device with a pin even if the SIM has been changed, and also send a message to the thief.
Just wondering if I am using the wrong security

So for me avast works the same except you can control when the gps turns on via sms say if the data is off and gps. everything can be done just with sms. The picture taking It will do but you have to pay for that. I see the use in gotya but I like avast. Also avast antitheft even with a wipe over like say you wipe the phone except the internal sd card it can still work. You will have to look into it.

Unable to install Instagram after OTA update to ICS?

Once I heard about the official Rezound OTA update to ICS, I relocked and RUU'ed my phone to bone stock setup, and ran the OTA. Now I'm on 4.0.3, and everything works fine. The only problem:
When I search for Instagram on the Play Store, I get this message at the top of the Instagram page: "! Your device isn't compatible with this version." and I can't install it. It worked fine on GB. Has anyone else had a similar problem?
I just installed the latest base with the weekend patch and it installed fine for me.
My problem with Instagram is that I can't upload pictures...it freezes up my phone until reboot. I've seen people with other phones with this problem too. I think it's an ICS issue.

Have you clicked okay. . To have it check for what it is warning you about? Have you downloaded any new apps before getting the warning? I myself would probably take it back to. .. sprint. . But there are many knowledgeable people on here. . I'm sure someone can help you more than I can.

The Knox referred to here is a hardware/firmware that is on the Note 3, and the 2014 Note tab(Galaxy Tab). It is an efuse, meaning that if you try normal rooting, you permanently blow the fuse, thus rendering your warranty void, and possibly bricking/soft bricking your device. Google!:good:
I have the same annoying pop up stock completely virgin and can't figure out the app either so I factory reset and it keeps popping up, all my apps are from Play Store most Google apps, Facebook And Twitter all trusted apps not a single one sideloaded. So I had to check don't show it for next 30 days to make it go away.
Also anyone having the same but with Samsung Account constantly asking to verify password for security measures? Had to disable all Samsung cloud services and Samsung apps to make it go away. Annoying as hell.

Getting this annoying prevention information since the mj4 update. I should have stayed on mi5. This did not happen on mi5. Hopefully they'll release an update to fix this. I checked do not show for 30 days to get rid of it for now. Stock and unrooted btw.
Just a follow up with this. My friend just got a note 3 that came with the MJ4 update and it showed the same thing. No installed apps other than stock and not even connected to the play store. So it is something that came with MJ4

Questions on first root, safestrap and hyperdrive

So I just moved from my iphone to a Samsung Galaxy S4 and I want to run Hyperdrive ROM but beforr I dive into my first root snd all I have some questions. If any of you can answer any or all of these that would be greatly appreciated. Ive spent a ton of time in here and other places reading up on all of this but want to clarify some stuff.
So I'm on ME7 so I'll root and then install safestrap. Then ill install Hyperdrive via safestrap. My questions are as follows:
1. Will this have any impact on my stock ROM or settings? Specifically will it impact my exchange email? Main reason I ask is my work has mandated that I have a pin for the lockscreen. So will that be impacted on my stock ROM or Hyperdrive?
2. Will I have any issues reverting back to factory settings if I need to? Would I just delete safestrap and take the OTA? When I do this will my stock ROM remain as is?
3. Lastly will any of this have any impact on any downloaded apps? I haven't gotten many yet, mainly just curious?
Again thank you for any help you have and also for any other adviser or insight I might not have thought about.

By "pin for your lockscreen" do you mean your device will be encrypted? If so, I don't think you'll be able to use Safestrap.
Yeah I read that somewhere, but when I go to Security, "Encrypt device" is an option so it appears as though it's not encrypted, our IT policy just requires as password/PIN to unlock the device. Correct me if I am misunderstanding this though.
I read in an early version of the ss thread that ss won't work with encryption enabled. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
Is "Encryption" the same thing as having a PIN required to unlock the device? Like I said, the main reason I thought that was a different thing with Safestrap is because under "Security" there are options to encrypt device and encrypt SD card, neither of which seem to be done on my phone. But I'm extremely new to all of this and only been reading around here for a week or so.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but no... Having a basic pin as you're lockscreen isn't the same thing as encrypting the device.

[Q] (Q) Device status Custom...from OTA??

So I have a rather interesting situation. I got my phone through preorder like many others did, and got a 27th stability update right away. I installed it, used the device for a while. Later in the day I went into download mode to see if my phone said anything about being bootloader- locked.
The funny thing is that now, device status shows as custom, and updates fail due to "unauthorized" changes, which were never made
So my question: can that be fixed without wiping device? What do u think triggered that? Booting into DL even if I didn't do anything else?

Towelroot then more battery drain?

So I just rooted my device with towelroot so I don't trip the knox counter.
All went well with the root process.
Let the phone reboot like it needed
Used the APK from chainfires zip to install supersu on the phone.
When I installed that I allowed it to update su and then disabled knox.
rebooted the phone and verified all was able to power up again okay.
Since doing that I notice that the phone is staying pretty warm without any use and screen off and is being held awake by the kernel. (according to gsam battery monitor)
Has anyone else noticed wake-lock or battery drain issues after rooting the phone with this method?
So far, so good for me. It's pretty much the same

That sounds more like there is a app going rogue or something. While there is a possibility it could be hardware, my bet it is more a software issue. When that happens to me I try to master reset and test without the applications for a little like I might with this if the battery issue don't clear up.

Same issue here - applied Towelroot on an HTC One M8 (Verizon), root did not work, but battery drains considerably faster now (would estimate about 30% faster drain than before).
There is definitely something going on with the towelroot apk, I have not installed anything else.

So I have to completely setup my phone again? I guess that's the price for being brave and trying new things

Something's running rogue and keeping your CPU running high, which probably accounts for the heat. A hot phone wastes more energy, so you're getting hit twice. Did you try installing wakelock detector to hunt down the issue?

lol i guess so. Back up with kies that will help restoring apps and data.
Haven't noticed any lag because of towel root. However installing xposed and xprivacy gave me unbearable lag. I had to Uninstall them and the phone went back to being smooth.

Or, since you are rooted, use an app lie Tibu to backup apps and data, and restore it after reset. Root survives factory reset.

I am not rooted - towelroot doesn't seem to work on the HTC One M8 (Verizon).
I did a factory reset, but the battery still drains like a jug of beer on a summer day... down to 15% after 6 hours

Looked at wakelock detector, but that only runs on rooted KitKat phones. As mentioned before, Towelroot did not work on my HTC One M8...
