So I just rooted my device with towelroot so I don't trip the knox counter.
All went well with the root process.
Let the phone reboot like it needed
Used the APK from chainfires zip to install supersu on the phone.
When I installed that I allowed it to update su and then disabled knox.
rebooted the phone and verified all was able to power up again okay.
Since doing that I notice that the phone is staying pretty warm without any use and screen off and is being held awake by the kernel. (according to gsam battery monitor)
Has anyone else noticed wake-lock or battery drain issues after rooting the phone with this method?
So far, so good for me. It's pretty much the same

Okay I will give that a try.
Worst case scenario I will try and master reset it.
Just happy to have full sd card access again and native tethering working in stock software. Plus ad blocking.

I don't think you will actually need to unroot it. About how long are you getting with your battery now?

That sounds more like there is a app going rogue or something. While there is a possibility it could be hardware, my bet it is more a software issue. When that happens to me I try to master reset and test without the applications for a little like I might with this if the battery issue don't clear up.

I actually did a master reset the second day I got my phone because the first time I messed something up with restoring some stuff from my iPhone using Smart Switch (don't know exact name) and my phone was getting hot even before and after the master reset.
Just want to clarify factory reset is the same as master reset right?

Yes
Same issue here - applied Towelroot on an HTC One M8 (Verizon), root did not work, but battery drains considerably faster now (would estimate about 30% faster drain than before).
There is definitely something going on with the towelroot apk, I have not installed anything else.

Something's running rogue and keeping your CPU running high, which probably accounts for the heat. A hot phone wastes more energy, so you're getting hit twice. Did you try installing wakelock detector to hunt down the issue?

Or, since you are rooted, use an app lie Tibu to backup apps and data, and restore it after reset. Root survives factory reset.

Hi,
Having a few problems with my p500.
1st - all my appz keep closing (not force closing) to home screen as soon as i open them.
2nd - my market will not install appz unless i hit install about 15 times (same with updates)
3rd - i prefer to use the standard non-qwerty keypad, but for some reason it keeps disappearing when i go to type.
4th - i cant open my messages
5th - cant access gallery
6th - The return button will not work.
All these problems started at the same time. One minute it was working fine and then all of a sudden. Problem after problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hmmmm... would not it be better to RMA the phone while the warranty lasts (and the data are not lost)? I for sure would not want that is randomly completely unusable, requiring total wipe.

The Knox referred to here is a hardware/firmware that is on the Note 3, and the 2014 Note tab(Galaxy Tab). It is an efuse, meaning that if you try normal rooting, you permanently blow the fuse, thus rendering your warranty void, and possibly bricking/soft bricking your device. Google!:good:

Getting this annoying prevention information since the mj4 update. I should have stayed on mi5. This did not happen on mi5. Hopefully they'll release an update to fix this. I checked do not show for 30 days to get rid of it for now. Stock and unrooted btw.
Just a follow up with this. My friend just got a note 3 that came with the MJ4 update and it showed the same thing. No installed apps other than stock and not even connected to the play store. So it is something that came with MJ4

Saferoot should have absolutely no impact on your battery. Its got to be a certain app or two that's bleeding the power down. We'd need more info.. Maybe screenshots of your battery stats..

I wouldn't think that would help, and it seems to me that you've got great battery life. 1 day on battery, still 76%?
The only case that I've run in to with bad battery life happens when you take the MJ7 to MK2 update. Google Services then eats battery.
However, you don't seem to have that, as it's all screen usage. Rooting is not going to make your display consume more battery.

will try your suggestion thank you
I'm having a serious issue with my Google Apps recently. My stock rom updated over OTA so I had to re-root/reinstall CM11, and when I was installing Google Apps it failed a few times and then worked.
The problem I'm having is that Android Device Manager will be very inaccurate (up to 2,400 meters), and sometimes won't find the device at all. When I am running my stock rom the ADM finds the device very accurately (<10 meters).
I just re-flashed/reinstalled everything and I'm still getting the same issue. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Well, depending on how much time you have on your hands, and everything is backed up. You could use mattlgrof's utility to flash your firmware back to stock, reroot, dont accept OTA, then freeze the OTAupdater with an app like Titanuim backup so you don't get/have to worry about accidently accepting the OTA. And you wouldn't be bothered with the notifications if you use the stock ROM This works even better if CM11 is your daily driver, and you don't really use stock. I assume you are on BMM? If you are on safestrap, you can flash the stock slot with CM11.
If you still have the problem, you will at least know it wasn't the OTA.
So you think the problem would be fixed if I simply flashed CM on my stock slot? I'm pretty sure it was the OTA that screwed everything up. I am on safestrap.

Make a backup and try it. Custom ROM's don't recieve OTA's so... If you flash right now, and the problem persists, THEN use Mattlgrof's utility and blah blah blah, so didn't recieve the OTA, and try then. As long as you used safestrap correctly, the only thing you can lose is time.
If i recovered my stock slot to the point BEFORE i received the OTA, would that undo all the OTA changes that screwed up my phone?
My assumptions would be yes if you had one. At that point, me personally, after verifying OTA wasnt there, I would go back to safestrap and reflash cm11 and gapps. I don't know what difference it would make. I personally am always hinky about dirty flashes and such, so if I think one thing might be affecting something else I wipe and replace both. So I don't upgrade ROMs and kernels much... A lot of time setting everything back up

I would say just do a full clean class of cm11 and gapps maybe unless you just did when you flashed cm11 the last time. I think if you have cm11 and root and safestrap recovery you are good. The stock does not matter any more.

Curious, what is the benefit of a root access security apk if you keep debugging off when not using it?
Gotya is imbedded in to the screenlock and standalone so it doesn't require internet access for a server. You can have it take pictures on a failed login, which it will send as well as GPS coordinates of where it took place to your email. You are able to send sms commands to ask it where it is, have it call you, start an alarm if you are in a large room of people, lock the device with a pin even if the SIM has been changed, and also send a message to the thief.
Just wondering if I am using the wrong security

So for me avast works the same except you can control when the gps turns on via sms say if the data is off and gps. everything can be done just with sms. The picture taking It will do but you have to pay for that. I see the use in gotya but I like avast. Also avast antitheft even with a wipe over like say you wipe the phone except the internal sd card it can still work. You will have to look into it.
So I have a rather interesting situation. I got my phone through preorder like many others did, and got a 27th stability update right away. I installed it, used the device for a while. Later in the day I went into download mode to see if my phone said anything about being bootloader- locked.
The funny thing is that now, device status shows as custom, and updates fail due to "unauthorized" changes, which were never made
So my question: can that be fixed without wiping device? What do u think triggered that? Booting into DL even if I didn't do anything else?
Thanks for your help in advance!
