I've been looking through these threads and I'm a little confused. I just got a new htc flyer and it came with honeycomb installed. I would rather have gingerbread, as I don't like the honeycomb system bar and lag.
It seems that in order to do this I need to have root. all of the threads I read state I need to have gingerbread to do this. Obviously that's precisely the problem I have. How do I get back to gingerbread, or is it worth dealing with honeycomb?
Thanks again.
You have posted in the wrong section. This is q&a
You need to find your stock ruu for gb. Then follow steps for no HTC dev unlock downgrade posted by globatron. Find out your ruu follow step listed in first couple post of downgrade from hc leak also posted by globatron. Further questions post in correct section

I'm new around and had a Q: How can I un-root the EVO View tablet, its running GB 2.3.4 with s-off.
I've done dozens of searches and any ruu backups I've found for a stock restore has been dead links. I would like to be able to upgrade to HC.
Is there any way to do this?
See the flyer development forum. The info is there to un-root and S-On for the View/Flyer
Thank you I'll go check it out.

It was rooted using "revolutionary"
Ok was looking around and I still need the RUU for my Evo View that was on GB 2.3.4 all the links I've been finding are dead, is there any way to just do a straight upgrade to HC rather then have to find the RUU I need??
I have the current HC RUU file, I don't care for keeping my View rooted I found no major benefits besides removing junk apps.
Any help plz!
I’ve been on this forum for a few weeks now and seen many posts on rooting/s-off etc, and I am confused over the options. (thanks to Globatron and others for their hard work). I was hoping that someone could give me the right reference.
I have the stock View with GB and the OTA update has been staring at me for some time now. I don’t (yet) want to upgrade To HC but I do want to do things like backups, remove Sprint bloatware etc. I understand that I have to root the device to do this. Can anyone point me to the steps necessary to root my stock View? Do I just run the prerequisite steps in Globatrons thread? Which steps specifically?
If I do this, and later decide to update to the OTA HC update, will that brick the View? Do I have to use one of the custom ROMs (and approaches) documented here?
Also, if someone here does a custom ICS ROM for the View, could we go from GB direct, or would we have to go GB > HC > ICS?
Thx for your help.
From Stock GB you have to perform all the steps in the Globaltron thread that take you from GB to S-OFF HC.
Yes you can revert back to stock GB , that process is also in his thread. You would have to revert to do the official OTA update, however there is no functional difference in the official OTA and the Globaltron OTA, other than root and S-OFF.
ICS , no one knows for sure since its months away , but its built on top of HC , so very unlikely you would revert to GB to do a custom ICS ROM.
Thx. However, I don't want to go to HC. I just want to get GB rooted / s-off. At what point in Globatron's steps do I stop? (just want to make sure I don't do one extra step that leads into HC and then restart into soft bricked mode).
This is what you want - no more, no less: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194709
Follow the instructions and you will have GB, root and S-OFF
don't forget to thank globatron...!

You could also go to http://revolutionary.io and follow the instructions there. If you were looking for more options (but Globatron's the man in this territory).

DJ, just take it one step at a time. Make sure you check for your Hboot version before starting. Should be the 09 something. That's what mine was.
Globatron made an excellent step by step guide. It is pretty much automated and definitely way easier than it looks. Read through the steps a few times before doing it. Then when you actually get it done, you'll think to yourself "Wow, that was easy!"

Never mind, searched and found it in the HTC Desire forum:

Just ordered one today and want to be prepared when it arrives. Looked through the dev section but wanted to get opinions from some people here.
It says it will be shipping with Gingerbread. What is the best way to root with Gingerbread? Would it be this link?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194709
In the end I would like to have Honeycomb running on my device rooted. Can I just run it like that and flash a honeycomb Rom? I saw a thread with people having to flash back to Gingerbread to get the official Honeycomb Rom. What would be the point or advantage to this? I am definitely not new to rooting and like to be there when the device first rolls out so I am there from the start but I am juming into this device pretty late to the party so there seems like a few different options to go with.
Appreciate any help with an overview and best direction to go. I am sure others who purchased the device today would find this useful as well.....
Thanks in advance guys...Looking forward to hanging with the view folks. Seems like a cool crowd!
That would be the best way.
If you want to go to Honeycomb and retain the root/S-OFF (google that if you dont know) then you must follow this guide to go to Honeycomb:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409306
If you want stock Honeycomb with NO ROOT you should NOT ROOT Gingerbread and just check for over the air updates.

OK follow that guide.
You can't just flash a HC ROM over Gingerbread, because the hboot versions are different. Once you have followed that guide, you can flash and Honeycomb ROM.
Also I don't thing that HTC updated the View's hboot. You can check by rebooting while holding the volume done key and you will see hboot version.

Cool, thanks...that pretty much answered my question why you couldn't just flash a honeycomb ROM over a rooted gingerbread ROM.
Hi peeps.
i just got my cowboom flyer it was on 1.10 hboot GB. SO i easily use revolutionary method for S-ff .Now am S-off and i wanna upgrade to HC but i still wannna be rooted. If i accept HC update will it break my root? I read other forums for HC update but its kind of confusing. I read that HC will break gps is that true? how about custom HC roms? is custom HC roms also break the gps? which one is thre best HC custom rom for flyer
Read Globatron's thread. You can install his routed stock ruu. So you can keep the stock set up, but remain rooted. Our you can then upgrade and flash custom HC ROMs.

Hello all
Had a crack at trying to root my legend about 4 months ago. Got stuck at crackin.bat and gave up.
But I think it's time. I've got Froyo 2.2 with HBOOT 1.01, are there some specific instructions for my device that won't confuse me
And I love HTC Sense too much to go with plain Cyanogenmod, is there any ICS based roms with sense? Something like how the HTC One V looks?
in the meantime htc has provided an official way to unlock the legend's bootloader - you can just follow the instructions here: http://htcdev.com/bootloader/ or have a lokk into the corresponding forum thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498298
the development of ics for our legend is still in the early stages, so at the moment you certainly won't find a rom which bundles ics & sense. however in the development section there are gingerbread based roms, that come with sense...

There are quite a few ways to roots your legend now since Boot unlocker has been released for the Legend.
1. Downgrade and etc.: Never used this method but it was the first guide I read and it confused the heck out of me.
2. HBOOT 1.01 root: The way I used to unlock my HTC Legend very easy and comprehensive guide in this forum, CHECK IT OUT HERE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223950
3. HBOOT unlocker (Haven't used this guide before)
From the title of your thread I sense that you had trouble downgrading. No problems! Just use the 2nd or 3rd method listed above, the first guide was only used because the Legend still had eclair and the 2nd or 3rd method wasn;t released yet.
ICS rom is still in Beta version but can be used (Nearly fully functioning ). Check it out here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562595
Best of luck!

Many of the links to the required programs/files in that guide no longer work.
I pretty much rooted mine the way it's described in the first post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1596635
Look in the Legend Android Development for ROM's with Sense
If you need further help, don't hesitate to ask
Yeah, just use the boot unlocker method since its the newest method.

Wow that's exciting. Didn't know that HTC released their own method.
I go to the site and click Begin Unlocking Bootloader but nothing happens
Have you made/signed into a HTCDev account?

I used ogo2's gingerbread rom for quite a while, never saw that issue. If you look through the thread in the dev section for the rom, I have seen others with this issue too, but I don't know the cause or solution.
