[Q] Trade Lumia 900 for 800? - Nokia Lumia 800

So I know this is completely based on rumor and assumptions, but if I were to be able to trade my current smartphone at an AT&T store for a Lumia 900, do you guys think there'd be a market for trading it for a LNIB Lumia 800? I'm really not a fan of screens that are larger than 3.7 inches, and I'm absolutely in love with the curved display. Finally, the PPI on the 800 is higher than on the 900, so naturally, I'd prefer that.
TL,DR; Do you think there'd be someone who would be willing to trade a LNIB Lumia 800 for a BNIB Lumia 900?

in short yes... there is always someone who thinks bigger is better as for me 4" screen size is as big as any phone should get and 3.7" is perfect as is the Nokia Lumia 800.

Sure the 800 has a higher pixel density, but keep in mind that the 900 has SAMOLED+, which means 3vs2 subpixels when compared to the pentile unit in the 800. This grants less pixelation and artifacts, in real life usage...keep also in mind that the 900 isn't much bigger, the 800 has more bezel and the curved screen is actually wasting some space.

I would be one of them willing to trade.......if I lived in USA.

I'm mildly confused. Do you have a Lumia 800 and want a 900 or will you get a 900 when it comes out and want an 800 in exchange? If it's the latter, I may be interested in a trade if I like the feel of the flat 900 display. I bought my RM-801 just last week, so it'll be 2 weeks old when the 900 comes out.

Yes, both the 800 and the 900 have a Pentile arrangement. This means that the screen is worse quality. Also, the Lumia 900 has a flat display, as opposed to the curved display of the Lumia 800 which (according to reviewers) makes for a more ergonomic experience.

Nope. That's wrong. http://news.softpedia.com/news/No-Pentile-Display-for-Nokia-Lumia-900-245972.shtml

Correction: The 900 is much larger than the 800. The HTC HD2 has a 4.3" display and is only slightly larger than the 800. The 900 is considerably larger than both.

From what I understand you will trade in your current smartphone call it smartphone x.
So... trade smartphone x for a lumia 900.
Then trade the lumia 900 to a member for their lumia 800.
If that is the case might be willing to do this. I have a lumia 800 RM-819 with the WCDMA 850 in cyan that I just got yesterday. If you are serious pm me.
The 900 does feel bigger in the hands than other 4.3 inch devices imo.

I am a huge fan of the Galaxy S phones but doesn't it bother anyone that the phone is only a 480 x 800 resolution while other phones like the htc amaze 4g (which has a 1.5 ghz snapdragon processor) has 540 x 960 and the iphone 4 has 640 x 960.
Honestly I don't know much about resolution but i would like to know that the phone i have wont be obsolete in the next few months.

The screen will be the very least of your worries, not that anything else should worry you.
No nothing else worries me this phone is fast as hell it will take some time before this phone is obsolete in any of the other areas

Go to the store and take a look at the screen, it is incredibly gorgeous, that you won't even pay attention to the resolution.

Bear in mind that the iPhone display uses 3 RGB subpixels to display a pixel, while the Super AMOLED screens use 8 and Super AMOLED+ screens use 12.
While this doesn't necessarily give you more detail or higher resolution, each pixel isn't as blocky or square as you'd imagine.
The only thing that bothers me is the saturation is a little....too colorful. I have a green forest background, and it looks like some magical neon green forest. Very vibrant. It reminds me of NVidia's Digital Vibrancy settings at max.

IMHO, i think the Lumia 800 is a great phone, but overall the Titan beats it. But i still find myself wanting the Lumia. I don't know if it's the looks, the display, or just the ability to own something crafted so beautifully, but i just want it. They are both truly great phones and both really push the OS forwards and into the limelight, so to speak.
What does everyone think? I'll post this on both the Lumia 800 and HTC Titan boards, so more people see it.
Thanks for having a little read. Let me know your opinions below please. Thankyou geek community.

I would have the Nokia 800 for a try, because i have heard about the beauty of the SAMOLED+ and the Lumia 800 has a 4.3-Inch screen, which is considered as big phone.
But if you want to go for Titan , it is fine too. I have bad experiences with Nokia phones so i don;t really want to use them even i know they are good. Just a personal feeling.
But i think most people would choose the Lumia 800 over Titan, since it has the better design (Higher Eye-Candy level, not sure about Build quality) , for sure a better camera, a better screen with acceptable size.
I just love a massive screen and the 2 -piece of metal design of Titan, that is why i bought it.
The lumia 800 has a 3.7 inch pentile screen. I don't know if the screen in the lumia 900 is a + panel, but the one in the lumia 800 is not.

Personally I think the Titan wins hands down.
I've had the Titan since November time, and love it. I was sceptical as it's such a big phone, and personally I'd go for 4.3 as the perfect screen / portability size, but less than 4.3 is too small, so the Titan was my only option for a gen 2 phone.
I can't fault it - the screen is brilliant, the build quality is top notch, the performance is faultless. I've played around with the Lumia in stores, and it's a nice phone, but the screen's too small, plain and simple, and without a FFC I just don't see why anyone would buy a gen 1 phone when there are several gen 2 readily available.
For me very is fault on Nokia its construction. On many forums is discussed the creaking housing after a few months of use... On Lumia 800 or N9 with the same construction...
And little display size of course, Titan´s bigger display is fantastic
Lumia 800 has a non-user-replaceable battery,and that's a big -

Totally agree. I can't speak to the build quality of the 800 having never seen it, and while I KNOW it's superior to the Titan, that is REALLY hard for me to imagine, because the Titan is solid and beautiful to me!
Well, the Titan has just dropped to £383.99 ($592.07) on Handtec.co.uk. If it was Amazon, clove or expansys i would by now, but I've heard really mixed reviews of Handtec. Some people say its fine, but lots of people say they sent the wrong item or it was damaged or came weeks, sometimes even months late, even after paying for next day delivery. Has anyone here brought their Titan or any other phone on Handtec.co.uk? Cheers.
I own both phones, and have run then each for a month.
I came to the end of my Lumia month a few days ago, and I was grateful to get my hands back on the Titan.
The Lumia is a beautiful phone, sure. And it feels great in the hand. The USB port is just wrong, with its little flap and positioned on the top as it is. Audio on the Lumia is dreadful - there is no bottom end at all, either thru the speaker or headphones. Its all mid-hi range with no depth to any music.
And although the deep-black pentile screen on the Lumia looks good at a first glance, the reality is that you will notice the pixelation too often, and compared to the Titan there is a noticeable yellow haze across the screen. Whites are horrible in comparison. Sure, the dpi is less on the Titan, but there is no practical drawback in daily usage, and due to the pentile grid on the Lumia, the Titan actually feels better quality.
The camera on the Titan is also much better, with a ton more options than the Lumia. Lumia is OK for a cameraphone, the Titan surprises with its capability.
One area the Lumia has the edge is its power button - I like it on the side. The Titan is a BIG reach for the power button on top, and it is so flush that sometimes its fiddly to actually press it. Not cool. Why oh why can't all WP makers have the windows button wake up the phone, as LG have done on the Optimus?!
Nokia has tried to bring value with its Drive/Music/Maps apps...but can't say I miss them. gMaps pro does it all, and POIs on google seem to be better and more current. If Nokia shared with Bing maps, it would be a powerful rival, I guess...
Nokia Drive is kind of cool, but really, you can't add/edit POIs, you still need a data connection for routing...if this is your reason for buying the Lumia, go with the Titan and buy Turn-by-Turn instead.
Nokia Music is so-so, nothing that MarketPlace doesn't offer except the gig guide and Mix Radio. Gigs can be searched and Mix Radio...well Spotify anyone? Or even SmartDJ and ZunePass. I guess the advantage of Mix Radio is that it's free but its not a deal breaker for me.
I am still waiting for 8107 updates on both devices, so the jury is out on which has better update support at the moment.
I certainly get more comments on the Lumia's beauty as a design, but people are more overwhelmed with the sheer gargantuan impressiveness of the Titan. I then invite people to try it in the pocket and the reaction is always the same..."wow its like its not even there"...the Titan is so slim, its size is irrelevant.
The Titan battery is far superior to the Lumia. Yeah I am still waiting on "battery fix" from Nokia, but the Titan has it for me, no sweat. I can easily manage a whole day with my usage pattern, whereas the Lumia I need a charger by mid-afternoon. I went away for a weekend and didn't use the phone, but it lasted from 4pm Friday to 7pm Sunday with 20% remaining for calls/txts on the way home. That is what a phone should do!
So yeah, my Mum gets the Lumia, I will keep the Titan

Thanks very much for the comprehensive review of both devices. I just went for it and ordered the Titan for £412 from Handtec Hopefully be here tomorrow (Friday) Going to have to download the BA app and use the phone as a boarding pass for my flight to Orlando in a couple of weeks Thanks again. I look forward to being a part of the Titan boards here on XDA.

Good choice mate. Moving over from android to titan and liking it so far but missing the apps. Still got the sensation XL just in case.
Did it arrive!?
It did! And its f***ing awesome. I love it so far. Camera is great, screen is beautiful, no lag at all (which I had quite a bit of on the omnia 7), very good battery life so far. Its on charge atm so using my galaxy nexus and I have to admit the nexus' screen is far superior, but that's the only thing about it that is. It took ages to download my emails, check my twitter/Facebook/forums and send a few texts. Thanks for everyone's opinions !

HTC HD2 vs. Lumia 800 screen?

Hey guys,
Does anyone know if HTC HD2 is a non pentile screen and whether it's not as pixelated as Lumia 800?
The HD2 is a totally different display technology; nothing pentile as far as I remember. Besides that, I think the Lumia 800 screen is gorgeous.

The HD2 has a standard IPS panel, it has the same resolution of the Lumia but it's bigger (4.3"). Basically you can expect some pixelation, weak contrast, bad viewing angles and worse power management. Overall the actually perceived pixelation should be on par, but you're likely to face screen ghosting issues on the HD2. Personally I'm not the greatest fan of Amoled screens, but compared to the unit in the HD2 the one packed by the Lumia wins by far IMHO.
The only big "concern" about the lumia 800 display is the pentile matrix - and the polycarbonate shells that seems not so resistent...
Sent from my Lumia 800 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
I tried to take a few photos of the HD2 vs the Lumia 800, but it's hard to get my cheap point-n-click to meter well across two such different displays. Seperately, I can get accurate colors on from the HD2, but cannot get good reproduction when taking shots of the Lumia 800.
The obvious difference is Clear Black. The HD2 looks dark gray when it should be black. The Lumia is... well... VERY black.
I personally prefer the way the HD2 shows the Nokia Blue theme. It's more... blue and less turquoisie. Magenta, OTOH, looks much better on the Lumia. It's vibrant and VERY magenta. On the HD2, it just looks like a cheap attempt at bright pink, but slanted toward a flat purple instead. A little too much blue in the display, overall, that lends to great blues and not so great pinks. Whites on the HD2 are cooler as well.
I, personally, don't give a crap about the pentile. I have to think about it and look for it in order to notice it.
The HD2 display will appear more pixelated simply by the decreased pixel density.

I came from an iPhone 4 and I think that we can say anything bad about the iPhone 4 but the display it's gorgeous and the pixel density produce clear and well shaped images, text that cannot be compared w/ the Lumia for obvious reasons but the PENtile display is a punch in the eye - an added one just after the poor resolution imposed by MS -.

As much as I detest Apple products, I agree that the pixel density is amazing.
Looking forward to Apollo, where that can change for WP7 devices for the better.
Thanks a lot guys!

Lumia 710 TFT looks better than 800's amoled??

Well I've always thought that the 800 screen would be miles better looking than my 710.
But after picking up a friend's of mine and playing around with it, I find it less satisfying to use than my 710 for some reason.
Some things I've noticed between them.
710 screen flickers(sorta like a those old fashion tv's, ctr or ctf I think). To see it, move your screen around quickly back and forth but don't move your eyes with it. Where the 800 screen doesn't have this. Not a big deal though on the 710 since I usually keep it still when using it.
The thing that threw me off and making me don't like the 800's screen is because there is like a dot of black in between all the pixels. It is really hard to explain it. I think its because of the lack of a backlight on the amoled screens, and there is nothing lighting up the area in between pixels.
I don't know if you guys understand what I am trying to say and if I am high or not but all you need to know is that my 710 screen looks better than the 800 screen even if the blacks are not truly black on the 710's tft, the overall experience on the 710 screen quality is superior to the 800.
It's because the 800 has a screen with pentile matrix. Google it and you will understand what those "dots" between those pixels are. It's simply because there are no "pixel" there. Sort of. The pixel layout differs from a traditional TFT.
What the 800 is superior at though is true black and more natural colors and much better contrast.
To me the 800 screen is far superior becuase of those things alone. Pentile matrix doesn't really bother me and there are a bunch of other phones that has it too. Galaxy Nexus. Samsung SIII to name just a few...

To me the 800 screen is far superior becuase of those things alone. Pentile matrix doesn't really bother me and there are a bunch of other phones that has it too. Galaxy Nexus. Samsung SIII to name just a few...

I guess it all comes down to opinions. In my own personal opinion, perfer the tft tonthe amoled. Unless they find a solution to the pentile matrix on the amoled, I won't ever use it lol.
I saw an amoled screen on my friend's galaxy 2 and thought it looked horrible also.
Pentile on Lumia 800 is terrible..
I too was against pentile screens before but I really wanted the 800 and after only a couple of days I was used to it. And ad I said I prefer the deep blacks and the excellent contrast over the extra sharpness.

To be honest I got nothing against TFT lcd panels in general. Colours look way more natural on them and the white is more real. My gf has the 710, so I can make all kinds of comparisons. When you look at pictures there's no contest: the 710 wins hands down: after all pictures have to represent reality, and amoled panels aren't that good at that. Even in the browser gradients of colour are generally kinda messed up on the 800, you don't really notice it until you put them side to side, it's astonishing. Anyway on this particular OS I gotta say that I still prefer amoled over lcd. Using the dark theme on an amoled panel is just awesome on WP7, the metro UI really deserves those deep blacks and punchy colors, with faint blacks this beautiful thing of design is wasted. The 710 may have more real looking colours, it has slightly less pixelation and sure it isn't affected by all of the artifacts that an amoled (especially pentile) unit suffers from, but the viewing angles are kinda poor: the display tends to become yellowish when angled and looks kinda discoloured at the edges. The Lumia 800 truly is a work of art, and its amoled panel is part of its nature: when it's laid on the table at the office and somebody calls you or something it really looks like a living thing. The 710 instead doesn't really draw that much attention, and there's no magic whatsoever when it lights up

[Q] Some questions about Pureview

I've got my Lumia 920 a few days ago and after bragging about how awesome the Pureview camera is to one of my iFriends he totally smoked me with his iPhone 5. In low light he got shots as good as my Nokia did, and in situations when the light was coming from the windows he wiped the floor with me because he could choose where to focus the image thus making an object on the wall more clear while reducing the light from the window. I can't do this with the 920. If there is a window with light coming from it, the entire wall is almost black. I have also noticed that photos taken with the 920 have a 3552x2000 resolution, while photos taken with my old Lumia 800 have a resolution of 3624x2448. Why so?
My questions are:
Why is the resolution lower than the Lumia 800?
Why are there fewer options in the camera setting than on WP 7.5/7.8?
Why isn't the Pureview smoking the iPhone? They don't even try to advertise this kind of things and still...
Why are photos soft?? Even after the update, photos are still coming out softer than how they look on the screen between focus and shoot.
When I got the 920 I really wished that this Pureview brand they are selling is something groundbreaking, but why in the world does the iPhone 5 take same or even better photos?
Tomorrow I'm returning the device to get a new one because of a problem with the floating lens:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2065019
I hope that the new phone they will give me will be better...
