Hi all,
what are major differences between flashing with Odin or CWM?
Is root mandatory?
Are some cases where you cannot flash a rom with Odin but only with CWM?
At first look with odin seems to be more beginers way
Thank you.

Does not require root usually for stock Samsung roms or kernels
or CWM?
Usually for custom roms modems etc requires root and CWM install .

YES as above
All the above information is found in the FAQS and |GUIDES .

Hey Forum,
I was hoping you guys would be able to help me out. i'm coming from the HTC Legend and kinda lost when it comes to Samsung.
1. what is all this firmware info i keep seeing? is it just the firmware or do i have to match current firmware on my phone to the firmware of the ROM i want to flash?
2. kernels do i flash a ROM and kernel each time or is it all ROM's come with a kernel? or is it the same as HTC, once you find a ROM just flash it through CWM?
3. how do i get root? should i just flash CF-root and then flash ROM's from there?
I'm sorry for asking i know that all this information should be somewhere but most guides seem to be written with the assumption that you owned a Samsung device previously
A big thanks to anyone who can help
thanks,

No try any firmware a before b 3 after 2

Roms are with a kernel Flash depends upon the roms instructions but most are CWM except for stock roms .

hi
i m new to s2 but i was using nexus s before
now i have few questions please clear my doubts
1.for now my phone is not rooded if i install a custom kernel with odin will the phone be rooted if that rom has root?
2.for now my phone is not rooded if i install a custom rom with odin will the phone be rooted if that rom has root?
thank you
Flash a ChainFire kernel using odin (follow the links in my signature). Try and keep it close to your current rom / kernel number. Its all in the instructions on their page.
Then flash your new roms either through recovery (follow links in my signature) or using odin.

hi,
is there any difference between installing a rom in odin / cwm?
who's better?
or its really the same?
thanks
Odin is primarily used for rooting and flashing firmwares.
CWM is used for flashing custom ROMs.....after you've rooted and installed the CWM......
hello devs,
i have an international variant GT-I9300 . I upgraded it with the ATO(OPEN AUSTRIA) . After this upgrade ,i was not able to root ...i used the CF AUTO ROOT , SUPERSU , and even mobogeine root method . its getting failed....
please help me devs......i would like to root it...either to get a stable international variant ROM.
If you intend to then flash a custom rom then don't bother rooting your stock firmware, all custom roms are already rooted.
If you want to stay stock then flash a prerooted version via odin, get a link for one on xda in general forum.

i checked the whole procedure of it as u told.... but while i am flashing CFROOT but it is showing "FAILED SIGNATURE VERIFICATION" . and the same thing for superSU ......
so...in case if i flash PHILZ RECOVERY or CWM ......without rooting........ will my phone get bricked ???...
Check out Cyanogenmod Installer follow the instrustion it will root and install the latest stable CM for your phone .
You are still missing basic knowledge, you can't flash anything with stock recovery.
Flashing recovery doesn't require root, but you can brick the phone if you don't understand what you are doing.
