have a heart, help me - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys i need help.my little brother was playing with my phone and he somehow deleted the contact and phone apk. I checked on settings>applications>all to see if they were still there but they're not. I would really appreciate if someone can upload the stock ics dxlp7 phone and contact apk. I can't make a call or check contacts since it's gone.or if you could tell me how i can restore them

Have you tried downloading the rom and flashing it over?

Why don't you extract them from the system/app from the "yourromsname".zip and use root explorer and place them in system/app fix the permissions to match the others and reboot

It's not the only option. It's just AN option. You should be able to re-flash a non-wipe package of DXLP7, and you shouldn't lose anything other than root. But you're not rooted anyways.
EDIT to add: question though. If you're not rooted, how did he delete system files?
EDIT 2: I should also note that any other solution for you will probably require root.

Guess I'll have to download the ROM and.reflash it...

I think factory reset will only wipe user apps but won't recover system apps.
Here it goes, stock phone and contact apks from LP7
root needed

Even if he has the apks ... he's not rooted so how are you going to push to system?

None rooted phone with no way of exploring the system folders . Not possible to delete the APK only to delete the shortcut .
Factory reset will recover system apps as they are in the flashed saved firmware cache but it will delete data but that can be backed up .

I have esfile explore even though I'm not rooted. Maybe he somehow deleted stuff while messing around with esfile?

Well thanks for the file. However when I placed it at system/app directory I still can't run the dialer and receive no service. Do you have phone.adex on the system/app or do you know any way to solve this problem?
Have you changed permissions and rebooted?

Thank you for trying to help me and yes I changed permissions and rebooted
. I accidentally uninstalled the original phone.APK with systemappremover.
here's my phone.odex unpack first, i dont know m8, i never been in this kind of problem. If this doesnt work, you have to re flash your rom or restore your latest back-up. Im sure this will solve your problem.

Royskeyz is right. If it doesn't help, you can backup your imp apps or data via titanium backup and reflash a rom. Or if you have a Nand backup, you can restore it.
One more thing. You have already done the pasting thing. You now you can try to install the phone.apk as a normal app. But don't delete the already pasted one.
If this all doesn't help, reflash the same rom again but don't wipe anything. And reboot. You will not lose anything.

Phone.odex should be in the same folder I.e. system /app.

One more thing, if you already have the rom, you could have had all the system apps in the rom zip on SD. You can extract any app via root explorer. You can try to paste the same phone.apk.

lol there's no such file as "phone.asexual". lekhwani is right, its the same directory where phone.apk is. you cant find your's maybe you just uninstalled it.

Request for some apps file

Hi guys,
I have recently make a wrong decision with my Gs2. I tried to use Titanium backup to change All Sharing and Social Hub as a User Application. And that result in these apps disappear from my phone. I tired to put the dlna.apk and social-hub.apk back to the "system/app" while nth new come back after a reboot. I think that's because i miss the odex file related to the apps. As I am using Offical Hong Kong Rom KG2, would somebody like to help me by uploading those files [dlna, social hub apk&odex]
Thanks

I got those APKs from the list you have posted.
And install them by using root explorer
My way to install is to move from sdcard to "/system/app"
I even changed the permission of the apks but still they don come back

You just push them to the /system/app/ folder and reboot - that's all a recovery zip would do.

My finally method was reflash the official rom..... that nearlly kill me as i have to reorder the application icon which take me an hour to finish that....
I don know how to use the recovery method but hope this post would help others who face the same problems.
Btw is there any apps to backup the order of icon in Application page? Rearranging them again is damn horrible if u got tons of apps......

I still have the file build.prop.bak
It wasn't opening but I select the option open with and select text viewer and it open and it was like the build.prop file
So I rename the file build.prop.bak to build.prop and I think now its ok I guess but I'm still worried
Did I solve my problem or not?
I'm scared to reboot it

You should be fine. Worst case scenario just reflash the ROM without wiping data and it will restore the whole system partition including the build.prop. just make sure you always have a copy of the ROM you are currently running on your SD card.

What should I do? Factory reset going to setting--> general--> backup and restore --> factory reset.
Or what I did of rename the file solve the problem?

Renaming the backup file to build.prop should be fine. Check the permissions it should be rw-r--r. If all is good you should be fine to reboot/shutdown. LGNPST can always recover your phone as long as it can at least be turned on. Like I said you should be fine but there is always options.

The remaining 1 is build.prop.bak? If yes then just remove the .bak, and you can open it now with texteditor, check permission make sure it is RW-R--R--, owner is root, then you should be good.

Can we put S3 S-voice on S4?

I have a weird question. I now have a Verizon S4, ME7 baseband, rooted. I used to have a S3. I use s-voice via Bluetooth dialing for voice dialing and texting all the time. It worked flawlessly on my S3 but sucks on the S4. It won't find some contacts, despite reading the names back to me perfectly while telling me it didn't find them.
I remember trying the S4 apk on the S3 when the S4 apk was released and finding it didn't work well for me. I reverted back to the stock S3 s voice.
My question now is, can I do the reverse? Can I put the S3 S-voice on the S4? Does anyone have the latest S3 s-voice apk? I don't have the S3 anymore (nor would I know how to get the apk off if I did).
Thanks

I use apps from the s3 and note 2 all the time, most work and for those that don't I use apktool to mod them to work. In the case of s voice I imagine the app will natively work and it sounds like samsung tts doesn't have much to do with your issue. Im not at home to test or post it but you could always download a stock gs3 rom and extract s voice from it to try.

Unfortunately since your on me7 I cant make you a zip also you won't be able to make a nandroid back up either. This is because me7 doesn't allow you to have a custom recovery. Changing the permissions is pretty straight forward though, just make it match the other apps in the system/app folder, you'll also have to mount the system folder r/w.

Thanks for all your help. I extracted the file - called "Voicetalk" as far as I can tell. I pasted it into the system app folder using Root Explorer, changed the permissions, and nothing happened. I then realized that maybe I need to actually run the installer - tapping the file (which did indeed have the S3 S-Voice icon) gave me the option to install. I ran the installer, it showed the permissions, and then it failed to install with the only message showing: "Application not installed".
I deleted the app from the system folder.
I then tried again by first freezing the native S-Voice app. I tried installing the apk directly from the SD card and had the same result - not installed.
So, unless I am doing it incorrectly, I think the S3 S-voice will not install directly onto the S4. Any ideas as to a way to make it work?
Thanks

What you originally did was fine, just rename the original s-voice .apk to .bak then do what you originally did (move the s3 s-voice .apk to /system/app then change permissions) then reboot your phone. Also you can check to make sure the owner is root for both owner and group. I think it might have worked had you just rebooted. Alternativley you can just copy and paste the apk to your internal sd then use rom toolbox and go to app manager, tap the upper left corner (where it shows a little rubix cube android person) then go down to + APK Installer and select the s-voice apk that you copied to your internal sd card. Afterward check in app manager and make sure s-voice is a system app, if not convert it to a system app. Remeber to reboot your phone after it installs. If all else fails send me the .apk and ill figure it out and/or mod it to work.
You ROCK!!
Thank you very much for your help. The key was this line you wrote: "just rename the original s-voice .apk to .bak " I had not done that and the S3 version would not install. Once I renamed the original s-voice, I was able to install the S3 version. Rebooted, and voila. Now it recognizes, without a hitch, the names that the S4 version was unable to find. So now I'm in business!
