I am returning my phone to tmobile today for another amaze but i wanted to know if i could install a stock rom so it looks like i didn't root it so i won't have any problems returning it? Or do i need to relock bootloader and return to stock. if so can anyone give me instructions on what to do. Many of the unroot threads are no longer available. I don't have an external sd card to unroot. is that a problem?

I believe its in the third post of the thread. U dont need to lock bootloader if u dont want to bcuz it will just say "relocked" so they will no it was unlocked anyway.

Yes it is a torrent so u will need to use a torrent client such as utorrent to download it. Once it downloads make sure the file is named ph85img.zip. place it on the root of ur external sdcard. shut off phone and boot into bootloader by holding down volume down + power (u may need to do a battery pull first). Once you boot into bootloader, it will ask if u want to install update, select yess and it will do the rest from there

I always wondered does flashing the ruu also flash the kernel found within that ruu? Or do we need to do that manually?

I believe you will have to relock the boot loader with the phone tools found in the dev threads before it will flash the zip. Don't quote me on that. That's just what I did before flashing the ruu.

Ok, I'm no pro but ill try to help a little. I think if you relock you'll still be on the ROM you were on before you relocked, and you don't need to be rooted to run an ruu. After you run the ruu, you won't be rooted and it will be a stock ROM.
thanks, do I need to have the stock ruu on the sd prior to relocking?

Ive never run an ruu, but if I did, this is what is do. Download the ruu.EXE, not the ruu.zip, to my computer. Then plug in my phone, then relock, then run the ruu.exe from the comp. I don't think it needs to be on the SD card. If I'm wrong, I'm sure ill be corrected by someone.

My friend told me that if you 'S-OFF' your phone, don't think he said only on the HTC Amaze, but it will remove the 4G and will only give Edge connection. Is that true? And what are the Pros and Cons for having your phone S-OFF'd?

Take out your battery and then turn your phone back on holding down the power and volunme down buttons. This will load up the bootloader screen where it will either say "s-on or s-off" and will say "locked or unlocked". The locked/unlocked refers to the bootloader

to s-off the phone just means to make "ALL" files on the phone rewritable so the phone can n be fully modified in any way shape or form.. and if you supercid your phone you will be able to flash stock roms from any carrier, as for how to s-off your phone i suggest using the toolkit by hasoon found here

see if you can find yourself a detoxed RUU, either that or you can root your phone and use titanium backup to uninstall the bloatware you don't want

first off stop everything your doing, you NEED 4EXT recovery for all HTC phones, it was specially built for HTC phones since they only work on HTC phones.. and it has a Smart Flash feature that allows you to successfully flash rom's while S-ON, S-OFF lets you re-write system files with full access.. before htc released the Unlock Bootloader codes it was the only way to flash a rom properly.. and SuperCID lets you change the Carrier ID to Blank so this way you'll be able to restore any RUU from any carrier if your trying to flash back to stock... but it seems like you want to flash a rom so just Flash 4EXT and make sure smart flash is enabled and find a guide or watch a youtube video on how to do a full wipe and flash your ROM... or if you dont want to do a full wipe look for android revolution HD and download the superwipe script and flash that before you flash your ROM
Pros:
1. Able to flash kernels (aka boot.IMG) without using 4EXT Recovery ..but I use 4EXT because madmaxx is an evil genius!!
2. Able to supercid. That means you can change your Carrier Identification and will be able to flash different carriers RUU.
3. Able to SIM Unlock without the need to ask your carrier for the unlock code.
4. Change your Splash Screen. That is the first screen that pops up when you reboot. Then its the bootanimation that comes after.
Cons:
1. Just the attempt to S-Off is stressfull. If you're not patient or not confident or can't comprehend what it is you're reading or watching then do not attempt it. You can end up with an expensive paperweight if you don't know how to recover from something so basic.
2. Another Con. If you do something so stupid and mess with the system partitions then chances are it can end up as a brick also. Only heard of one instance that happened. And it was about a year ago.
Can't think of anything else. But I too would change the recovery. You might not be able to charge your phone if it goes dead because I'm not sure if TWRP supports charging while off. Good luck.
Can I just use hansoon tool yo change recovery? Or is there a speical way as I have twrp?
Sent from my LT18i using xda app-developers app
I use the paid app. But you can use the Hasoons Tool. Mind you that its not the most up to date recovery and 4EXT has been updated atleast a dozen times since then.

i tryed changing roms and its just stuck on a bootloop. so far i tryed 3 different roms with no luck

Make sure your RUU is properly named and put it on the root of your SD card.
Lock your bootloader by adb command "OEM LOCK" From your pc's command prompt. This will lock your bootloader (and will erase everything)
When you reboot to your bootloader, it will scan for your ph85img.zip (I think I remember thats what its called... its been a while) and it will flash the update.
Hope this helps... if not... I recommend http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679486 this thread. Goodnight

Why didn't you pick a better time to do this since India and Pakistan get power outages? Or use the generator in your house. Corruption these days smh.
Back to the point, I had a similar situation except I made the classic mistake that almost every single person with an unbranded amaze made. Flashing an ics rom without firmware or even s off. I however know how to search, read, and comprehend unlike many of those people who bloated up the q a section with ICS updation threads...
I solved this little mess by finding a gb rom then starting the quest for s off, super Cid, and the magical firmware.
Tip: To anyone on xda reading this, knowing how to search and read will determine whether you are a smart newbie or a hopeless NOOB.
