Whenever I try to flash a ROM, it says:
E: Can't open /sdcard/*romname*.zip (bad)
I tried flashing kernels with ODIN, I tried downloading the ROMs again, I tried with multiple recoveries. How can I fix this?!

Flash a rom how with Odin ??? if so are the files Odin flashable or CWM zip files .
This reads as you are flashing the wrong files with the wrong format .
zip bad means bad file its that simple .
What file are you trying to flash and with what is the basic question .

Sorry if I was being unspecific, but I mean I tried flashing other kernels to see if it fixed my problem. I can open the .zip files that I am trying to flash on my computer, but I just can't seem to make them flash to my phone.
But what are you flashing the zip files with on the phone CWM 4 if so use a later CWM and root from Chainfires thread .

I am flashing with CWM, of course
I am on CF-Root kernel. I did try multiple recoveries, including the one in Siyah kernel. I'm sure that my phone is rooted, since I can do regular rooting stuff on it.
I just tried downloading the ROM again, and it still gives me that same error. There should be nothing wrong with my USB cable or connection, since I can transfer other files that work to my phone. I did try multiple ROMs, but they all just seem to not let me flash. It just stopped working all of a sudden.
I just looked at a thread with a guy having the same problem on his Transformer, and it turned out it was CWM corruption. He used something called Gnufabio RecoveryInstaller to fix it. Is there anything like this on the SGS II?

most probable case is your downloading everytime gettiing correpted..
try to download a ROM which has got MD5 checksum....and check the MD5 check sum after puting it into SD card using AFV tool market...
if you are on GB rom, download Siyah kernel Odin version and flash from Odin and see

Good idea, I'll just have to find a ROM like that then I will try and downgrade to GB with ODIN and then flash Siyah with ODIN first, to see if that'll work.

another option to try is....even chances are very less to work...download ROM manager and flash Clockworkmode from that and reboot into recovery from Rom manager, if flashing of update.zip seccess you will get a recovery, then you try to install rom from that...

I will try and download the ROM directly from my phone. This is getting on my nerves. I'm hoping that it's got nothing to do with my phone, and that it's just something to do with my computer or something. I'm running out of options here.
I am very, very, very, very, very, very relieved to inform you that it was indeed something with the connection from my computer to my phone! It worked! I wasted about three hours, but anyway. Thanks for sticking with me. Thanks to you!

if you dont want to have to download the roms directly on youre phone, you can use Xlink to transfer them from your computer wirelessly, you download an app from the play store and get a client for your computer.

Have you tried to use ODIN to flash your phone back to a working ROM?
Also, be sure to flash the right ROM.. Verizon Fascinate and Telus Fascinate are 2 different phones..
Well... now theres a problem as ODIN won't see my phone in download mode. :/
Reinstall your USB drivers, and see if your cable is seated properly. If you can get into Download mode, most cables used will allow Odin to recognize. You may have to Odin back to a different ROM like Neo said.
Make sure you have the latest version of Odin

It won't install any ROMS, kernals sure, not zips. If anything, everytime I try to unmount USB in Clockwork Recovery, it blinks and goes back to the previous screen.
Any ideas?

So can you get into download mode and use ODIN to flash or not?
Are you still stuck at bootloader? Please be as descriptive as you can.
And no, I never heard of "cannot unmount USB storage" CWM... I've heard of mounting issues, but not unmounting...
IMHO, I think your best option here is to get ODIN working, then flash to a stock ROM with stock Kernel with PIT (Repartition) then flash CWM 2.5.
I dont see why you would need to unmount? what you can do is remove the battery cover remove the sd card. with the battery still out plug the phone into your usb and hold the volume down button. does it go into download mode then?
Then can Odin see your phone?
Also worst case try a different PC all together.
Are you on VZW or Telus?
I can get into download mode and use ODIN yes.
I am no longer stuck at the bootloader and can boot into stock froyo with ODIN.
I use ODIN to flash stock ROM and kernel, and everytime I flash back CWM 2.5. It won't let me install any ROMs. It gives me a status 7 error and aborts.
CWM just won't work
In case you didn't know, CWM can mount USB just like android so I don't have to boot into the OS to place a file. under mounts>mount USB storage>Unmount/Mount
Everytime I press unmount, the screen blinks and takes me back to the previous screen.
This is a Telus Fascinate.
I had a similar problem. Turns out my USB cable was culprit. Several others have had similar problems. Try a different USB cable.

Oh i am aware of the Feature, what i was saying is it shouldnt affect flashing a rom.
also one thing i noticed is your using an older CWM, which rom are you trying to flash? If it is an MTD like CM7 then you should use the cwm 3 or 4 fixed for cm7

Tried the fix, ODIN starts and then fails in the middle saying NAND write failed.
What could this mean? ODIN fails to install the fix :/
Tried a different cable, so cable is not the issue here.
Can we get one thing straight here though? The phone is not bricked as I can get into ODIN and flash what seems to be only stock files?
As long as Odin can see it you can always go to stock. As long as Odin is ok there is hope.
As i have a Verizon Fassy, I may not be much more help.

I am completely stuck trying to get my Fascinate back to stock and i have read through and tried everything i have seen on the issue execpt the How to completely remove voodoo lagfix because I cannot down load the original.mbr file.
Let me see if I can sum up the issues I am having on my phone;
I mistakenly flashing I9000 which led to a soft bricked phone. Since then I have spent the past seven days researching and trying to figure out how to get it fixed.
Phone shows 0.00 internal memory
Can't mount SD Card in CWM3-Voodoo-Blue E: Unable to mount sdcard so i can't install update.zip or even install a new kernel
Permission denied ... E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
While I don't remember flashing a voodoo kernel using Odin, I am getting all of the same errors. I can't get CWM to do anything with the SD Card
Phone stats:
Firmware 2.2.1
Baseband version S:i500.04 V.EB01
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
Build number SCH.I500.EB01
I can only get the following to run on my phone, EC10SC292x_DXC.tar.md5 from Droid Forums (Super Clean version 2.9.2 - EB01/EC10 Froyo leak root+Froyo Clockworkmod with MALWARE protection).
This runs great except for the 0.00 memory and unable to mount SD card errors in CWM recovery.
I have tried everything out there with no luck to include flashing back to stock using the threads on this site and others and Odin gets stuck at the movinand file install and fails. Everything except the thread How to completely remove Voodoo Lagfix over.
The link for the orginal.mbr is broken and I can't find the file anywhere.
Does anyone have the original.mbr file they could post for download.
Odin back to stock ED05 using the pit file and repartition. If that isn't enough Odin back to DI01 using the pit to repartition.

Are you using Odin with the battery pulled? Sometimes that helps. Basically hold the volume down button when plugging in the USB cable and it will still use the download mode. If that doesn't help maybe the download is corrupt so try redownloading.

Yes, Odin with battery out. at least fourth time re-downloading all the stock files. It seem that the only files that make it through Odin are then custom ROMs. All of the stock downloads fail at the movinand install point.
Have you tried a different USB cable? Also what version of ODIN are you using? The most reliable one I've used is 1.3.

Yes on the usb cable, 4 to be exact and odin 1.3 and 1.7. 1.3 has been the most stable.
I think i have tried everything across the board and like I said the only files that make it through Odin and pass have been the custom roms, anything that say stock locks up in Odin.
I would try the full GeeWiz Rom then with the pit file with Repartition checked. I'm not sure if it contains the movinand.bin file or not. If not then try GeeWiz with just the Rom & Kernel; that doesn't wipe data.
Also have you tried wiping the SDCard in either CWM or GeeWiz recovery?
If that doesn't help, I'm out of suggestions, and unfortunately I don't have the mbr file so I'm no help there.

It's been awhile since I installed a PHilz recovery, but if I remember right you get the tar file from the download, put it on your computer, put the phone in download mode (volume down and power), connect your phone to your computer using the charging cable that came with the phone. Odin recognizes the phone and you highlight the tar file you have on your computer and select PDA. Click start and let it do it's "thing". Wait until you get a green "pass" in Odin before disconnecting. I have no clue why anyone would actually delete the apps. Just Freeze then with TiBu to make them functionally not there. If you are that tight on space, buy an SD card.

Huh...the other one has a corrupt file too. Probably tried each around 10 times now...It's not my internet because i tried downloading an equally big file from a different website and it was fine...I woder what the problem is
Both those downloads have corrupt files unfortunately. Does anyone have a mirror to either those files or help me find an alternate solution?
Thank You

You attempted to flash a ROM made for a different phone (d2att), never do that again unless you want a brick.

Yea, look at the sticky. Anyway, it is probably something to do with your recovery. Try flashing it using cwm.

Yea, you can flash .zip versions of cwm through the recovery menu. You could also flash it through Odin if you can't find a flashable .zip of it, probably easier that way. Don't just flash any .zip of cwm you find through twrp, it has to be one made to be flashed.

You should just be able to download the recovery in this topic (.zip not tar.md5) and install it using twrp. Put the file on your external SD since you can't access your phone.

You know that the file that you have to put in odin has to be a ridiculous amount of mb or gb then other things because i made that mistake 2 lol.
You have to extract it when using your pc and stuff and sometimes you get others files like ones that arent even like 100 mb or whatever that can look like a rom.
Give me a full list of evrything you exactly do when flashing and wich file and name and how big the file is and also your model number... The s3 ATT right?
Can someone verify for me that att has an own bootloader and stuff and you can only like odin flash their stock roms right?
You can always use phillz touch recovery and download a custom rom like cyanogenmod for your phone! Then you can acces it... If you dont brick your phone.

Huh? What exactly did you do? If you flashed Philz correctly using TWRP then you should have his recovery on your phone.
I think he needs to report his post to get it moved to his section with people to help him with his exact model and the correct stickies to help him.
If he can't then someone may need to report it for him.
Either way here is some reading material I found after a quick search in your forum.

So you got Philz touch running? If so, then you should be able to flash hellfire with it (assuming that you definitely have the right rom for your phone model).

Try redownloading the rom maybe an bad download.
When it doesnt work then your phone just cant take it and try something else man.
And also ask the developer from the hellfire rom if your phone is compatible with the rom (sometimes you need to download some sort of kernel or whatever it needs)

Is this the first ROM you've tried to flash? What were you running before trying to flash hellfire?
To fix your situation should be fairly simple. 1.download a different ROM to an external SD card, I recommend slimkat because its pretty stable. They use a unified d2lte build for all d2 devices. Before you install the zip, wipe data/factory reset, manually format system, wipe cache partition and dalvik cache, install the ROM zip and gapps zip if required then reboot and profit.

Hi, Would like some help or information if possible. I have a rooted Note 3 (N9005) and had TWRP on it for about a year, then i tried downloading a new rom it says i need to have a newer TWRP. But when i try to download TWRP (any version) on Odin 3. It dowloads to the phone as i can see the blue line going along at the bottom, it then reboots to my rom and i can use the old rom alright but when i go into recovery it says in red writing Could not do normal boot-Odin mode. And i have to go back onto Odin and download TWRP again and my old rom is back again. 1: How do i delete TWRP altogether and start again ( if i can ). 2: If i cant delete TWRP how do i go about putting a new rom onboard. I have searched your forums and can not see any with same problem with a Note 3. I still have root access and have tried Rootify with no luck.
Newer TWRP and rom are probably based on newer firmware. I'd back up everything, Odin the newest firmware then reinstall TWRP and flash new rom. This way you'll have the newer bootloader and modem.

hi es0tericcha0s I downloaded the latest firmware from xda website, and Odin doesn't recognize it. So i downloaded another one and it still doesn`t recognize it. How do i get it to recognize them? i need MD5 or Tar or smd files
I wouldn't know without knowing what you downloaded. Often the .tar or .tar.md5 files that you download here are zipped to conserve space. Most likely just have to unzip it.

Yes thats how it came. Do i unzip it and what files do i extract?
Not trying to be mean, but if you don't know how to unzip a file, this stuff might be a bit over your head.

Your`e not being mean but i did look into the folder and it had 3 files in it a META-INF, qaraqumus and system folder
Then you have a rom and not the firmware.

It's not uncommon that you would need to boot to recovery and perform a factory reset after the flash. And it will take awhile to reboot afterwards.
