[Q] Should buy WT19i ? ( LWW ) - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Guys i am thinking of coming from Samsung Ace to SE Live with Walkman ...
From what i can see .... its development is going great ...
Can you guys please comment on screen size ... like is it comfortable to use ??
Ace has 3.5 inch n LWW has 3.2 inch..... Shouldnt be much diff. rite ??
Other than that .... its hardware config is WOWOWOWOW.......
So i will be really helpful if you guys can comment about screen size and also some other cons if present ...

Every person is different, so I can't say about screen size.
I am actually playing some games with great quality on my LWW.
The loudspeaker...kicks ass!
About screen quality...the screen resolution is the same, so DPI(pixels/dots per inch) is a bit smaller on LWW.
After some months, LWW will receive Ice Cream Sandwich update, something good.
Now, the bad sides...
Battery. Depends on your usage, but quite weak battery on it, never had more than 2 days on this phone. I usually reloaded battery every night, but I haven't tried to make 2 days without reloading on custom ROM. Why...I have no idea
Can't think more at the moment, will let you know more if I remember.

for me, stronger proc and double ram
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4111&idPhone2=3724

It is far better than ace but well yeah the battery life it's not great I will not change tough

this really depends on how you would use the phone.
but i can definitely say that LwW has a much better performance compared to Ace...

Advantages of LWW over Ace:
1. Extra Loud w/out distortion
2. 720p video recording
3. 4.0 promised ice cream sandwich upgrade
4. 1ghz cpu (200mhz higher than ace, plus Adreno 205 over Adreno 200)
5. 512mb ram (2x ram of ace)
6. Better launcher (in my opinion)
7. Dedicated Camera button
8. Dedicated Walkman Button (editable through root)
9. Higher Pixel Density
Advantages of Ace over LWW:
1. 3.5 inch screen
2. Tougher Screen (Gorilla glass over scratch resistant glass of LWW)
3. A bit higher capacity battery
4. Thinner than LWW

Thanks a lot guys .... and ya about battery ... Ace's battery aint that good either ..... 1 day max ..... or 1 and a half if less usage..... so battery aint a issue .... as long as it passes my college hours successfully............ ....
My last ques ( promise ) : Samsung Ace was able to be restored to original stock firmware ... u know so as to claim warranty again ....by flashing through odin.... everything became stock again ... recovery ..kernel ....etc..
Can same be done with this fone ... ofcourse with different software...
And does it have seperate site for Stock Firmwares like sammobile.com for Samsung ?

you can flash back to generic stock using wotan server and if you install cwm before changing the kernel you can back up the stock that came with your phone.
mmmm one thing is certain that we forgot to mention the ace is easier to flash and do stuff. my wife has one and well i know it is easier than my lww or at least it is completely different to mod.

yeah.. its easier to flash...just put one file in odin n flash away..... also its roms already include custom kernel.... is that so here also ??

Nope it's not the same, with Sony phones you will need to unlock the bootloader first if you have a branded sim locked phone most certainly you will have to pay to unlock it to be able to flash custom kernels.
Once you have the boot loader unlocked and access to fastboot you need to flash the custom kernel and then from the cwm that comes with the kernel you flash the rom.
After a while you get used to it
On the other hand going back to stock is more like using Odin.

I have been reading user reviews .... many of them says they have restart problem .... Can i know if that issue is fixed with custom kernel and rom ??

Some corrections.
ICS is not out yet.
Live with Walkman doesn't have secondary Mic for noise cancellation.
According to me, there are no smartphones that take 2 hours for full charge.
Video calling on GSM network was never possible and on 3g android doesn't have it built in.

Can someone tell if we can play HD Games like gta 3 on Live with walkman without lag ?
and other HD games too ... ????

@Someguyfromhell,
-->ICS is not available yet but we can able to upgrade to Android 4 according to SE blog
-->The built-in secondary microphone is used for active noise-cancellation (you can verify this in gsmarena check in telephony section)

-->But it took me complete 2hrs to charge the phone fully i.e 100% (i will let the phone discharge completely until it turns off automatically and after that i will charge the phone is that the problem for me to to charge complete 2hrs)
-->Video calling that's the reason i mentioned in con's sections

I have GTA III on my LWW, even though my LWW is overclocked to 1.3 Ghz, I do experience only small lag and that is only sometimes.
Game itself runs good, mostly without lag, sometimes only a bit of lag.
Other HD games...like what? I might have played a lot of games, some of these might be HD, but I can't remember names.

Some people reported that upgrading to .62 messed up their camera... that is they are not able to focus and not able to take clearer pics .... did that happen to any of you guys ???

I cannot find this secondary microphone on this phone, neither can I see any information from official white paper.
And yes, ICS will come some time also.

Atrix 4G Screen smoothness & framerates

There's a chance of me purchasing an Atrix 4G and would like to ask some question beforehand.
1) Why do people say not suitable for Bell device on ROM? Is this the worldwide version? And not AT ver.?
2) How smooth is the screen, I mean when swiping, since I came from a iPhone 4 to HTC HD2 and I didn't like the screen as much.
3) Framerates in games? Any much difference compared to LG 2X (Seem some benchmark like 10fps-15fps average lost etc)
4) Does every or most games work? I mean support the resolution?
5) How would the quality be in 1080p in the future update since its a 5MP camera?
6) How many RAM in bootup? 750ish?
7) Battery life? Heavy & Average
8) I've heard the Atrix can get quite hot like the 1st gen snapdragon? Or is it the battery?
Regards, I'm sure a few have already asked this or looking for the same answers.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
1) Why do people say not suitable for Bell device on ROM? Is this the worldwide version? And not AT ver.?
Ans: ATnT version released first and got i think two updates (mostly bugs fixed) and due to this reason developers started working on ATnT and developing it mostly, but as soon as Global Generic version will release bye bye ATnT.
P.S:Root is available for all devices (bell and ATnT.
2) How smooth is the screen, I mean when swiping, since I came from a iPhone 4 to HTC HD2 and I didn't like the screen as much.
Ans:After a fresh reboot choppy for 5 min max after that no lag at all.
3) Framerates in games? Any much difference compared to LG 2X (Seem some benchmark like 10fps-15fps average lost etc)
Ans:Most of the games are now optimized for Tergra2 so no more FPS problems.
4) Does every or most games work? I mean support the resolution?
Ans:Yeah.
5) How would the quality be in 1080p in the future update since its a 5MP camera?
Ans:I think 1080p recording will be ok. after all it is a mobile phone what u expect a 60fps video ???
6) How many RAM in bootup? 750ish?
Ans:With the help of Android System Information i am able to check that 818mb of ram is showed (must be reserved by GPU and DOC ****) and out of 818 570mb ram is available for user and after usage of 2-3 days i am still having 400+ available ram for usage and no slowing down or lag any ware ever.
7) Battery life? Heavy & Average
Ans:My friend play lots of Fruit ninja on my mobile (1-2 hours straight) and that wont even budge battery. And i use internet via Wifi quite a lot. so Heavy usage 1 day and if u use aveerage (sms calls and email then 1.5-2 days max)
8) I've heard the Atrix can get quite hot like the 1st gen snapdragon? Or is it the battery?
Ans:1Ghz Dual core phone (processor with 6-8 cores {audio,GPU.etc}) little hotness is there not burning hand and stuff.
P.S:heavy usage can even make iPhone warm (personal experience).
Hope this answers ur concerns.

[Q]one last desicion to make, and i want yours first ; Xe vs Xperia S

hi,
i know some of you wont bother looking at this "another comparison" thread and most of you will think "this is Xperia S forum, what do you expect us to say" but i have opened the same thread to the sensation Q&A section too..
so my last phones were; HTC sensation XE and One X..
and my criterias are, in the using time order;
1) most of the time i ll be listening music,
2) checking my e-mail.
3) using GPS (i travel a lot and alos live on of the most cunfusing citys in the world)
4) web browsing
5) camera using for the places i travel
6) games when i sm not traveling with my car ..
7) messing with the phone, trying to OC (sometimes to get better everyday experience but to be honest most of the time just to feel the power for ego satisfaction and its not like buying the most powerful phone, its more like watching and making the phone grow stronger in your hands)
the 7 is very little time, ones the occupation occurs i am not playing with my phone anymore, i want it to remain as a good assistant and a journey-mate for me.
according to my needings i crossed out SG Note from the list due to its eMMC bug and screen burn problems.. a phone which is famous with its screen should not suffer from screen problems. and also crossed out nexus for not having FM radio and limited storage option (only 16 in my country), and i also crossed the SGS3 and the HTC One X for one being so ugly and having screen burns, and the other for having lots of problems to get over.. i have waited enough android to get mature and i wasnt willing to wait for a phone to do the same and catch up with its software on the quality side, not in 2012..
so let me get to the quick advantages and disadvantages comparison, this is where i want your help about what i list under and add your opinions..
This is %100 my opinions and please change them and advise me if you think any (or all) of them are wrong
Sensaiton XE over Xperia s
- expendable storage option
- good headphones comes with it
- since its the cuisin of the sensation, it has very big development out there and with the way we can S-off and S-on there is no risk of losing the warranty
- since adreno is not designed for fill rate like mali-400 but its good for effects and balancing the load it gives superp performance on the games with a qHD screen
- and the GPU is also OCable when i feel like the performance is not enough (it was alwasy enough, to be honest but still... you know)
- about the development, i am not talking about having lots of kernels and roms out. i have only used CM9 and ARHD so far. what i am talking about is having s-off and not losing the warranty, and having camera mods to have 1080p videos at 30 FPS/40Mbps and photos like 5 MB, and having bravia engine with ARHD etc..
Xperia S over XE
- XEs screen is almost unusable under sunlight and gets dust collected under, but sony has a perfect screen there is no doubt to that.. (but i am afraid of yellow spots, some people says its coused by heat and the S3 Soc is heating on average usage
- GLONASS GPS support. i never used it so dont know about the real life performance but it must be a good thing to have 2 different satelite type instead of one?
- 12 mp camera is better on the stock comparison but i dont know if it can race with the modded sensation camera (please say yes, because my main choice is Xperia S and i just want to make sure i wont look back once i buy it)
- the UI seems smoother overall and litgher then the sense but still i wonder; how is adrenoa 220 doing with that 720p screen? and will there be OC chance in the future?
- 1 Gb of RAM is sure going to be better than the 768MB one especially when it comes to the multitasking
so to sum up, my main concerns are about the camera and the GPU and the screen.. i feel like "ok sensations screen is not good but it will always be that bad in the future too but what happens if my sony's screen loses its quality everyday just because of regular heating of the device? i have given up from all amoled screens because of that thought.
and the camera, since the memory is constant i can understand sony wanting to reduce the image and size but i want less compressed video and photos, especially at night
and the GPU.. will i feel like i need stop one day admit that my device is not enough for playing the newest games just beause it can not handle the georgeus screen in a year? this really scares me. with the development support of sensation it gets 52-53 FPS on the nenamark 2 without OC with the last drivers but the sony is stock in only 37 (i know it will do every game unless it gets under galaxy nexus since it is the referance device for now but still...)
thanks to everyone who is bothered to read this.. and thank you for help..

1) Do you really need it?
2) urBeats - The worst. ****ing. Headphones. Ever.
3) There is no risk of losing warranty on an unlockable device in most countries (i.e. not India).
4) They XPS and the XE both run MSM8260, since you're likely to root it, the clocks are not an issue.
5) And same GPU too.
6) There's a bunch of camera mods (even though stock camera software is quite nice), Bravia Engine doesn't work on anything that's not Sony stock, just adding those files is NOT enough.
thanks for quick reply. i just got a reply from sensation forum too and it says the games are butter smooth with a little bit of OCing. i have seen only one kernel to OC GPU and then the dev has given up on it due to the reporters say it was cousing porblems..
1) i guess not. 26 Gb with USB OTG will be more than enough i guess
2) why are people saying that? i have been using my phones with their own headphones and it believe the beats auido ones are better than the stock iphone ones?
3) thats very good to know thanks, i hope its same in Turkey too
and 6) i ll check them again never noticed any in a few days,
thank you again

New exclusive feature of Xperia sola - Glove mode:
ICS update lets you use Xperia™ sola with your gloves on
Using floating touch over entire UI
How it works
Glove mode is enabled by default in the ICS upgrade for Xperia™ sola, so when you unlock the phone while wearing a glove (or with a bare finger in the air), you will enter glove mode and Floating touch™ mode will be disabled. In this mode, both glove touch and normal touch usage will work, for example, if you take off the gloves. There is also a cursor ring shown where you press the screen with your glove, to help you understand where you are actually pressing the screen. To turn off glove mode, you simply lock the screen and then unlock it with your bare finger touching the screen and you’re back to normal mode with Floating touch™ enabled. - Sony

Then root using Bin4ry's method..
Does anyone have problems with the camera? My girlfriend's Sola takes some horrible pictures. It was the same when I manually upgraded her phone to ICS.
She later asked me to go back to GB because the battery lasted longer with 2.3.7.

Ok, this is general discussion but still DEVELOPERS forum.
One thing, we have ICS from October 1. What do you think guys?? Doing anything takes time. Enjoy running ICS and WAIT for CM, kernels and others stuff. At least... we have working CWM

Look mate, I don't know you so I feel a little weird telling you this, but: get of your effing high horse. As much as I hate it when people ask - hell not even ask, but demand - for ETAs, the only thing that's worse is guys like you, who instead of explaining the situation just throw in some useless commentary to the effect that unless you DIY, STFU.
People don't like it when they don't know what's going on. And who bought this phone now, I don't have a clue what's going on. XDA is a cluster****. This section even more so. The Sola development seems nonexistent. So people wonder: what's going on. Most of these peoples's english skills are bad. Like really, really bad. So they can't write good questions. Not even OK question. So they demand ETAs. So get off your high horse. Now. And since you're so knowledgeable answer my question below.
What is the current state of development for CM9/CM10 for the Sola? Who is working on it? How far along are they? Where is their source, website and thread? Is there a more active forum for this phone than XDA?
Hi randomchars, The Free Xperia group are working on CM9 for Sola. See below.
Status for ST Ericsson: http://code.google.com/p/freexperia/wiki/SupportedXperiaDevices (MT27 / Sola / Pepper: Work In Progress)
Binary download : http://code.google.com/p/freexperia/wiki/CyanogenMod9
Changelog for FXP143
CM9.1
- latest cm 9.1
- first demo release (U,Sola,Go)
rootzwiki.com is promising, they have a no-banter law which is where some of the Sola dev's are/have headed. I'm done *****ing on XDA, I let my frustration/stock issues loose on Sony Community (http://talk.sonymobile.com/community/support/xperia_2012_family/xperia_sola) and focus on dev/support here.

Hi RajaSetan, it's much harder to install CWM recovery without an unlocked bootloader. Follow the steps and unlock your bootloader, I did the fastboot method.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1669906
As for ROM's, there's already an MIUI experience release (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933269), CM10 will come after CM9 is finalised and released by FXP. See above links.
Thanks visser! That's how a helpful response looks like!

Official 4.0.4 for Ray question

Hi there,
So 4.0.4 build ICS 4.1.B.0.587 has been out for Ray for quite some time now and I cant seem to find any topic, video, ANYTHING about how good it actually is?
Going to Sony forums is quite a hassle since most users there arent that tech savvy and you get puzzled answers at best...
So Im asking you guys, have you tried it, how good is it and is it worth upgrading over the old GB?
Specifily Id like to know about these things:
- HD Video recording still lags, stutters?
- Dialer opening up in this century (or is it taking 5 s still)?
- Overall smoothness any better?
Thanks, peace out!
Laggy, mono sound, led notification bug, call menu bug, worse battery life.
It's a downgrade not an upgrade.
Since I don't have xperia ray so I used my frnd's for some days and I used it first in gb, then in ics..
-I hardly suffered any faults in hd video recording(except that while starting the recording it took a bit time, nearly 4seconds for it to start)
-For dialer, I didn't found any flaws, lags etc.
-Smoothness for better in gb(as expected)
Going on gaming the smaller games worked fine...but as soon as I downloaded some big games they took sometime before starting and during playing too I experienced some lags...
Overall I would like to say that,
GB: Smooth, good for gaming, fast
ICS: Nice looks, more apps supported, more features(some features that u may not find in gb)
But this is my review and further the choice is yours. Using gb or ics depends on the purpose you're using your mobile.
If u like mah review, Press thanks,
Regards,
Abhinav

Really appreciate both posts Would like to hear more opinions if there are any...
It seems most opinions about the new ICS build are totally contradictionary which is weird :cyclops:
Oh and how is the camera quality? Im guessing its still compressed heavily?
Well, make a backup and try it by yourself. I've only lasted 10 minutes with ICS on my phone, buggy and slow.
No way to backup / restore back from ICS to GB without voiding the warranty right?

Root your phone and install CWM recovery... Without unlocking bootloader...
Rooting doesn't void warranty but unlocking bootloader does...
Then make a nandroid backup by CWM recovery
If it's not too late already, you don't need CWM.
You'll only need your stock rom (installed on your phone), Sony Update Service, and FlashTool. You'll be able to backup your stock ROM into a flashable FlashTool image.

I extremely appreciate all the replies
Due to some GB problems that persisted I decided to take a leap of faith on this one and install the official ICS.In time I`ll write down my experience so that anyone with questions will finally be able to get some straight answers without hopping from forum to forum... Till then here are my initial thoughts:
So far I can list some general pros and cons
Pros: Sleek interface with new options, far better multitasking, gingerbread bugs fixed, better camera settings and handling
Cons: Hiccups during usage of a lot of applications, Sony specific bugs (as in Mono video recording, turning off sound doesnt work on unlock screen), extremely slow stock android browser (opera for instance is butter smooth, smoother and faster than in GB)
To say a few quick words, interface doesnt lag (dialer for example comes up in a microsecond) and is generally smooth but applications like facebook tend to have hiccups that can be disruptive if you enjoy smoothness. There are some weird bugs aswell which I dont really mind since they aint that important and should be easily addressed with the new update (hopefully). All in all im happy I upgraded. GB had connectivity dropoffs for me and the 3G or HSDPA wasnt really all that - but it is a lot better on ICS. All in all if I try to be objective ICS on Sony feels a little BETAish, I think its not optimized as it should be with the hiccups since in some areas they are quite heavy while in other scenarios during hard multitasking you cant notice any hiccups or lag at all - super smooth... Optimization would be the key word here Havent tried WiFi so no comment on that since I dont use it.
Bottom line, Im happier with ICS than with GB but not everyone would be. Especially if you value the "complete feel"

(Sola) Meets ICS Specs but Fails? *Timescape Retired*

Hi all, I'm hoping for discussion so I chose here instead of simple Q&A.
Like a lot of people here I'm looking ahead to my next phone purchase and I'm trying to see what went wrong with ICS on the Sola. The forum is filled with theads on problems, I won't list them.
Here's the crux of the issue; I read here: http://androidtechguru.blogspot.ie/2012/02/minimum-system-requirements-for-ice.html
that the head Mod of CyanogenMod says that the ICS mimimum spec is 256mb of RAM with a decent GPU, and seperately, other people say that 1ghz dual core, 512 RAM is recommended. The Sola has this precisely. Why is ICS so bad on it? You can Google many, many reviews of even high-end Sony phones on ICS and they still lag like a pensioner going down a motorway. Why?
Is it true that the Sola reserves some RAM related to the extra sensors in the screen? I read more people saying 1GB or RAM is needed for ICS to run smoothly. I noticed that reviewers on Techradar say Jelly Bean runs much better that ICS on the same specs. So, is 1GB of RAM the standard needed for ICS? How about CPU and GPU?
p.s. I should say that a Sony rep on their official forum recommended me to download a task manager to manage the RAM on the Sola...how revealing!
NOTE - Timescape now retired: http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/01/14/rip-timescape-long-live-socialife/
Liked that motorway part
Btw
512mb is sufficient for ics (nexus s)
Its runs ics so smoothly
What sony does is that it adds an extra layer of Timescape launcher
Along wid that loads of bloatware
And regarding using task manager
Its worse one could do make phone unstable
Task manager kills app
Apps then reopen by themselves
Task manager again kills app
And the process continues till the battery is drained
Edit - I have same prblm on my xu sola n xu are twins
Thanks, I'm really trying to learn about how this works.
So, 512MB RAM for ICS, but perhaps more after a manufacturer has added their skin and apps?
Is there any other big problem with the specs for the Sola or U?
Battery drain, has anyone else noticed many of Sony's late 2012 medium-high end phones have 1900mha batteries, but reviews on GSMArena and TechRadar say their actual performance is about 1400/1500? (Check out the Ion, Acro S and others) The opposite can also be true but is rare from what I see - the iPhone5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini have small batteries 1400/1500 but their battery performance is more like 1800-2000. I don't know what Apple and Samsung did to make it that good, but the stats tell me Sony is really messing something up to reduce the battery performance that badly despite 1900. Maybe that is the Timescape UI eating the battery?
I wont say that about Samsung bt for apple
I have used an iphone 3gs and a galaxy note (my dad's)
Note's battery backup is even worse than my xu (probably coz it has always swtiched on 3g n gmail)
I have never seen an android wid good battery (except my brothers htc desire v)
The best battery I got in 3gs
---------- Post added at 10:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:17 PM ----------
My phone gives me a descent battery wid brains rom about 20hrs wid 4hrs of wifi, alot of messaging and hardly any calls
What about sola?
Have a look at this: http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_razr_i_xt890-4998.php
And the battery performance: http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_razr_i_xt890-review-828p2.php (bottom of this page)
I hope you wet yourself when you see this. I did.
64hrs?? Wtf??
I guess its due to intel chipset
I will collect money to buy this now I even beats my Nokia n86
Novathor also has an image of being power efficient
Bt I guess its the sony **** that pulls it down

A normal task manager doesn't do this you're talking about an automated task killer.
It is a feature some of task managers out there have.
If you have a task manager with an auto kill feature you can, in most cases, disable it.
A task manager can help save battery juice, as long as you don't use any auto kill "features".
Its really confusing about Sola, I think the headline of this thread summarize everything.. It just failed.
Well sure thing for me now its not a ram issue, I'm using my Sola lately without task manager, and just by limiting background process to 3, it runs with 30-40 free ram even better and more stable than 120 by a task manager, Android has its own ram management unlike Windows mobile for example where free ram is something important.
I'm using "Watchdog" task manager where it kills only apps that eat CPU not Ram.
Slow performance always start after few days of using, like now I'm in third day without restarting device started to face random lags.
And I think JB could maybe run faster than ICS even with same specs, imo best os is the one able to run good on minimum or normal required specs, like Vista - Win7 thing on laptops , vista was older but crap comparing to win7 even on same specs.
And btw even Sony devices with 1G ram like P, has issues with performance.. So it's either a CPU issue, or Sony customization.

i did notice that the facebook app sucks a lot of battery and resources from sola. On medium usage my phone goes well past a day, that is after i upgraded to .154 and uninstalling the facebook app
Check out the other Motorola phones released just before Christmas, they ALL have batteries above 2000mha! I have checked many reviews and they all seem to perform up to a very high standard. I have even chatted on here with guys who own these phones and they post battery stats lasting 2-3 days!! That's what I'm talking about...Motorola is apparently using a giant advertisment in the US saying 'A smartphone is not so smart if you have to leave it plugged into the wall all the time'.
I didn't notice the Xperia P had 1GB of RAM, and it's still slow??? I really think that's Sony's skin then. I've been reading many phones with 1GB of RAM that are really fast on ICS/JB.
By the way, that Motorola RAZR i...single core 2ghz, the GSMArena tests say that it performs better than most quad-core phones...shocking huh? Intel says the single core saves power.

Well i own a xu and i cant agree with you, ics here works fine and i have lots of apps installed too, ram usage is high but system is smooth overall and i havent had a single crash or reboot yet (been almost 3 weeks with ics).Cant be happier with my phone.
Edit: Btw it is not rooted and its bootloader locked, runing ics stock.
Even my very low end LG p500 with 512MB ram and a arm v6 600Mhz cpu can run ics just fine, even with old kernel, lack of sources, hacks, etc. I was using oxygen ics at the time.
In my opinion it only require a proper rom building, where most of the companies are failing.

My friend's XU also working great on ICS, it's also stock, not rooted, locked BL..

I also have LG P500 and with lastest Jelly bean 4.1.2 build from XDA masters works super fast and smooth. Ram free is about 200MB, apps loads instantly. Battery last for 3 days...

Well guess u folks lucky, coz i had some major issues running ICS on my U. Was practically forced to first root (so as to use some root tools to get stuff done,) then Unlock BL for Custom ROM. (Very Happy with CM9.1 - Was pretty happy just using TheBrainROM also, but I did get a Lag once in a while -Not very common, just once in a while. Using CM fxp 202 atm, and it hasn't lagged even once. O_O )
NOTE:- I did have a LOT of apps (over 100 user apps i believe), stilll I have most of them on CM but, no problems at all. (battery seems a bit worse though i could be wrong as TheBrainROM had some really good battery times, - I would get upto 1 and half days with charge. -Phone never on extended standby.)
Also @Silver If u think Windows 7 was good, check the performance on Windows 8. Heck even games are running smoother and faster. :/
Sony ends Timescape for future phones, converts everything into one option user app called Sociallife: http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/01/14/rip-timescape-long-live-socialife/
Maybe the 2013 phones will see a performance boost?
Well I'm using stock .54 without task managers for 5 days now without restart, device is running great, even with receiving calls while I'm using many apps.
For me using task managers with "Kill All" was the problem.

Before the Sola, I had the 2011 Xperia Mini (ST15i). It came on 2.3 with upgrade to 4.0. I gave it to my brother when I got the Sola. Tonight, I played with that phone again on ICS. It is *SO* fast and smooth it really puts the Sola phone to shame.
Comparisson of these two phones?
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4408&idPhone2=3947
This is another thing about buying new phones: dual-core does not necessarily mean better performance from what I've seen. A more powerful processor, yes.

I was thinking about keeping the Sola's resolution in the next phone, particularly to take it easy on the battery. Would you recommend that to keep the CPU relaxed too? I really don't know a lot about how this works but I'm keen to learn.
By the way, for anyone else interested on Android skins and updates, I spotted more hints on Sony's 2013 phone skins, Sony mentions it will be 'very light and easily updated':
