I am not aware, how adhoc really works, but doesn't just connecting to the wifi help?

I was trying to find solution for Ad-hoc problem and did not find any so far (tried to replace wpa_suplicant and other things..). So if you find something please post it here. And no, by default it is not possible

I'm also trying to find a solution and verified that with the app Penetrate I'm able to see AdHoc

If you have rooted your phone, check for an app called 'Adhoc Wifi Enabler' or something like that in Google Market.
Follow the instructions in the app and it should enable it for you. If that doesn't work then you unfortunately you won't be able to use Adhoc

I already tried that app but i get an error "Unable to modify ownership of supplicant.conf".
Also when I activate WiFi go crazy and it's not able to find any network.
Regarding Penetrate App, this is not used to connect to wifi, only to discover key in Tomphson routers, but with this tool you see the AdHoc Networks

I fell XMP/XM/LWW does'nt work for wifi adhoc .. but module wpa wifi able modification for work wifi Adhoc ..

This question should be posted in the general section, not development....
BUT, android can't natively connect to ad-hoc networks without a modified wpa_supplicant. You should search in the forum for your Samsung tablet for a compatible wpa_supplicant file, and you must be rooted to install it.

Is your device temp rooted or you have wifi tethering plan with Verizon?
You can download and run CleanTool to temp root your device and install any wifi tethering app on the market.

9.4.2.21 Ad hoc doesn't seem to work

Hello,
I've been trying to use tethering of my 3G phone to get WiFi on my Prime. I am using an app from the market that creates an Adhoc network to do the tethering. The app is working fine as I verified by connecting my Laptop to my phone's 3G and got it working.
The Transformer Prime detects the Ad Hoc network but just doesn't want to connect to it!
Any suggestions?
Works fine for me (prime tethered to 4G HTC Rezound) .. It's probably just your app. Try using wifi-tether.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Yup, not working for me either. It sees it and let's me select the wifitether network but it just says "saved". It won't let me connect to it. I'll keep trying

I get that sometimes too...but a long hold on the wifi line has options to connect/forget/modify.....at different times, I've had to use each of them....but I'm always eventually been able to get tethered to my Win6.5 TouchPro 2.
The app I use is WMWiFiRouter.....it works great....but it's not a free app

You don't need that fix....That's one thing that 21 did....was to incorporate that fix into the update.
i think i may have your answer. i couldn't tether my prime to my htc evo 4g either. then i enabled routing fix under wifi tether settings and now I'm able to tether prime no problems at all. hope that works btw I'm using wifi tether 3.1 beta 6

As stated above, a long hold on the WiFi icon will give you three options...Hit "connect"...usually solves the issue

tried a bunch of times...
i tried to connect a transformer prime to a mac book pro as access point with no success.
i got a "saved" message instead of "connected"... hit "connect" doesn't do the trick either.
tried using a nexus s as access point using easy wifi tether, and i've been able to connect my prime with no problem.
no security in both case. if ad hoc connection doesn't work please specify what access point you try to connect to. it might help to solve the problem.
ad hoc works with joikuspot premium on nokia n97 mini
In joikuspot premium settings you just have to choose for WEP Open. That way the tf201 will accept it when you put in the network key you get.

Wifi AP

Does anyone know any apps that creates a Wifi AP? I am not talking about an Adhoc network that all apps I have used create, I want it to work like native tethering.
I am asking because I am using polish blood preRC, and I really want to use it full time, the only thing is native tethers do not work and all apps create an Adhoc network.
Normally this isn't a problem, however I wish to use my PS3 over my phone's 3G connection, this is where the problem comes in, the PS3 does not see Adhoc networks so most, if not all tether apps will not work.
I have tried to use connectify while I have a usb tether connected however the PS3 cannot connect to the internet, I also would prefer to avoid using my laptop as an AP.
So anyone know a decent Wifi tether app that will create an AP like native tethering, not an Adhoc network
Are you sure that PS3 cannot connect to Ad hoc networks?
Here is an article about it http://www.ehow.com/how_6808376_can-connect-ad-hoc-network_.html
and it says PS3 can connect to Ad hoc networks.
Check if you configured everything properly.
Also Wireless tether app supports AP mode but only on certain handsets (HTC Evo 3D for example). It looks like it doesn't support our device.
Mine has never seen an adhoc network from my phone, guess I'll check it tonight when I can get on it.

Check wifi channels, anything between 1-11 channel will work.

Don't use this ICS. It's still in very early stage of developement. It's only for money.. If you really need a ICS on your Swift, then try AOKP 4.0.3. by DevSwift. Probably an update will come very soon. I was using it on my swift for 1-2 weeks, and I was happy with it. Now I changed the whole phone.

It's wrong to say its for money.....all he does is a dedicated ftp server for donators....and a bit delayed public release.

Back on topic, ps3 definitely will not see an adhoc network, just tried and when I scanned it didn't pick it up, when I entered my ssid manually it said it could not find it.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Sorry for the mislead, PS3 doesn't work with ad hoc networks.
But here is a possible solution:
1)Download latest WiFi tether beta http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta11.apk
2)Open it and then go to Settings
3)Change Device-Profile to Google NexusOne
4)Change Setup-Method to Netd (master)
5)Start tethering and that's it
Note: I haven't tested this on Mike's CM9 but it did work on CM7, so try it, and tell us if it works.
Just to warn you there is probability to get kernel panics with this settings.
EDIT: I have tested this on Mike's CM9 and can't get it to work. Simply wait till Mike fixes WiFi tethering, or flash CM7 or some other ROM.
You can try a couple of options...
1. Hosted Network Starter
Free: Simple hostpot on your pc with non configurable DHCP
www.nirsoft.net/utils/wifi_hotspot_starter.html
2. WiFi Tether Router
Paid: Android app for rooted phones with full featured DHCP, VPN, etc

[Q] Ad hoc on Galaxy s3?

Hi. I come from Apple's iPhone, and don't know many things about Android.. One of the annoying "problems" Android software has, is not recognizing ad hoc hotspots... I googled for an answer, and found that there is an app called Wifi Ad Hoc enabler, but is compatible with only 5 or 6 Android devices. So i ask, if there is a way to fix this on my Galaxy s3 and be able to recognize and connect to ad hoc hotspots......
Can't be done yet but apparently some people are working on it.

Thank you for your answer... I suppose, that when a solution is found, it will be posted in this section... Thank you again...
In most cases people whe create/need ad-hoc hotspots, they are trying to tether the phone on the computer's internet connection.
If you're running Windows, try using Connectify on the computer (Windows 7 only). That application will create a real AP hotspot and not ad-hoc connections.

I tried to create a hotspot from my laptop using Connectify, but it sais AP is not supported, so i am still unable to see the wifi from the phone.. I tried creating a hotspot from my iPad, and no luck either . I think it is the same problem with ad hoc...

[Q] Ad-Hoc networks

Hey guys... is there a way to enable ad-hoc networks on Xperia U? I know that it's possible on other devices by editing the wpa_supplicant file (located at /system/bin) but i don't understand anything in there... Just some weird signs and words...
Would be nice if someone would help me
regards
Ad-hoc network is not supported in Android...
But there is an alternative way. You can use a software called Connectify to turn your PC or Laptop into a wifi access point like a router.. Then the network will b supported in Android...
Hope I helped...

my xperia u can see AD-Hoc networks.
But it can't connect to them. It shows full signal, but when i connect it gets to minimum and refuses to connect, it stops at assigning ip.

I googled a bit and found a (in my opinion difficult but good) way to make an access point on linux but i'm still interested in this ad-hoc stuff because it's much easier
