hey people,
ever since i started playing around with the CM9 roms my touch screen has been acting weird. some key on the right hand side of my keyboard do not work (M, K, P). apps open without me touching the screen. press one area of the screen and another area of the screen thinks it was touched. i tried full wipe reinstall many times to no avail. or is it just because i have installed so many roms over the year my phone has crapped out.
if i am in the app drawer scrolling using the same area where the keys would be located i am able to scroll.
reverting back to CM7 as we speak........still no go
any ideas?

Have you tried recalibrating your screen. I've also heard of some 'pds fix' for touch issues. Here's a link for the fix:

well it looked like it worked but then my screen went back to doing the same thing. did the deep cache clean and all but still no go.grrrr i do not think its hardware at this point.
would have installing CM9 have anything to do with it. i noticed the pds file only came in 2 flavours. GB and Froyo.
any ideas?

think i have figured out the issue. its possessed by the devil. i let it sit on the table and out of know where the icons start moving and apps start opening. kinda freaky to watch.....
the only touch screen issues i had were with early versions of jokersax cm9...the touch screen would not respond at all upon booting up...so going back to recovery and restore always fixed it...but it sounds like you've tried everything...and a screen replacement costs about $50 i believe have you tried going back to stock temporarily??

i am afraid of bricking it if i go back to stock.
i soft bricked mine once and had to do it...wasn't too evil of a process...i found a signed 4.5.91 sbf file and flashed it via rsd...scary but it worked

Earlier today i accidentally bumped the screen while i was cleaning the back side of it. The car home screen had started up and was in landscape mode, however when i closed it my home screen using the default touchwiz (i think) was also in landscape.
when I tilted it upright it went back to portrait and back again to landscape after. No idea how it happened but once I restarted it was gone.
I realize I can do that with launcher pro or any other home screen replacement app, but I'm wondering if there's a way to always enable it with the default touchwiz?

stock, i thought since i didnt list a rom in my sig it was just implied...
stock flashed with Supercurio's stock+voodoo kernel
i had the exact same thing a couple of days ago. i think i know why.
because the samsung galaxys has to read data over and over it causes what is called "lag". both mine and your devices have crashed causing the screen to of randomly rotate the orientation.
i am looking into this problem and trying to make the picture clear for everyone.

Sorry couldnt tell what exactly "Supercurio's stock" is on your sig. I thought maybe you were running a custom rom by that wording.

no worries. just rooted the phone and installed the custom kernel to get voodoo, im quite happy with the stock rom but think im going to try out nero sometime this week.
It happens to me sometimes when the phone lags, just for a couple (1-2 seconds) before it reverts back

I have a similar problem, but I don't want it. My screen on one of my Vibrants is stuck in landscape mode after updating to Froyo. The phone is completeling stock.
We had problems getting kies to recognise it, maybe because it wasn't the right build number (we didn't get the OTA upgrade that came out a few weeks ago), but we finally got keis to recognize it and do the upgrade.
After that, it will randomly get stuck in landscape mode, even the home screen, and will only go back to normal with a reboot. But then it happens again.
Can anyone help?
Ok so I was a victim of theft and got my Thunderbolt stolen, sux I know so I got my replacement brand new. I rooted following jcase's thread then proceeded to flash B.A.M.F. 1.7, clean wiped everything about 4 times to be on the safe side. The problem is it wont boot past the splash screen...just flashes goes black vibrates flashes goes black. Thought it was the Rom so tried The perfect Storm and same thing also tried flashing different kernels and still the the same s**t and its really starting to piss me off. With a battery pull i can get into recovery but i dunno what the f**k is up. I succeeded once at a full boot but when i reboot for whatever reason its the same s**t all over again. I don't know what to do or how to figure this out any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all for reading and thanks for your time!

How long have you waited for it to go past the boot flash screen? Sometimes it might take a while to boot up because it is your first time booting up after all.......

I wish I could take video it'd be more easy to understand, so screen lights up says HTC with white background then goes blank then flashes HTC screen again then goes blank I don't even see the bootanimation it never reaches that point i let it do this till the battery died....nothing no change....

When I hboot Jcase's custom mr1 it all works out good but it just doesn't have all the goodies the custom Roms have, (sigh) well ima try gingerbread see how that works out...any developer or anyone with far more knowledge than me got any idea what i could try or any more help...

Be very careful using GB. It has a somewhat annoying habit of bricking phones. I wish I could offer some better advice about the ROMs. I used to have that happen on my D1. Some ROMs just didn't like it. Have you tried flashing the ROM, when it gets hung, do a battery pull and then try to reboot it? Sometimes that will get it past whatever is messing with it.
Hoping someone can assist as its driving my crazy and searched for a solution without luck.
Running SG2 with custom rom,rooted, Siyah kernel etc. Its not ROM related i believe as the problem occurs on different ROM's.
One day phone menu button decided not to funciton. The backlit part works but jsut doesnt provide the menu etc. If i hold it down it respnods, the keyboard appears but not menu etc.
Only solution to date is to restore a prior Nandroid backup ive made using CWM but then within a few hours the menu button gives up again. This occured when i went from Leocheck ROM to Rarity. Even tried wipe ROM version to clear everything and used Titanium to restore everything but eventually menu button dies again.
Has anyone else experienced this, i cant figure it out?
Damn, guess im the only one lol.
From what ive read on forums it could be a conflict with the ROM I installed being 3.9 Rarity and some apk i may have installed although i havent installed anythnig new.
Others thing some kind of bad framework installed but even when i reflash with a nowipe and reinstall data only via Titanium or advanced restore via CWM, after a few hours the problem reappears.
Besdies getting a new phone lol im really at a loss :-(
Just an FYI if anyone ever has the same problem as me. Via chance i discovered the reason why my menu button would often not work, it was due to Ultrakeyboard v6.1.
Its a newer release and works fine however whilst its selected, it kills your menu button. Once you change input, the menu button becomes functional again.
So end of the day after flashing many stock roms, kernels, modems etc it was as simple as a keyboard lol
This thread helped me. Same thing happened to my fiancee's phone. Menu button didn't work. Even flashed a new rom and eventually same thing happened. So, looked on here, found this, disabled Ultra KB and it works. They need to get this fixed.

Glad I could help someone else out.couldn't believe I was the only one, it was puking my fair out testing each app one by one and I heaps installed. Newer ultra works fine, v6.5 is already floating around

Have you tried button savoir from the market.this will determine if its something wrong with the soft buttons or your rom/system itself. phones with hardware buttons use it to stop them wearing out

Does your menu button do anything.what gave it away for me was that when I pressed the button, nothing happened but when I held it down the keyboard would pop up so it was atleast functioning, just not correctly.
Are you sure its not another duplication causing this.have you tried a fresh rom install without installing any additional apps?

Yeah have tried multiple fresh roms. Flashed stock with ODIN then upgraded over WIFI. Nothing. I also did a key test in recovery and it wasnt working. It is intermittent. Tho today its barely worked. I have done factory resets etc. Nothing has helped

If it didn't even work in recovery then it sounds like a warranty job to me (of course after flashing back to stock).
In CWM my menu button worked so I knew it had to be app related. Hope you figure it out. Mine now decides to go into the sleep of death lol.

Yeah its a def warranty job. Its a shame, as I usually rubbish everything samsung, but then my S2 was amazing and I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Ah well, these things will happen

Yeah despite your bad luck they really are awesome phones.I had a HTC HD2 running with latest Android etc but just not the same. Mine reboots a bit and has the sleep of death etc but have to admit I accidently took mine in a spa so surprised its working at all lol.

Ok guys, i have serious problems here..
I just installed viper rom last night and everything works normally in about 3 hours until i restored my apps by titanium backup then my screen goes blank with capatitive button lights on
But everything seems to work, i turn off screen then turn on again i can feel vibrate for unlock screen. even i got some calls i can accept that. but my screen is full black.
Tried to turn off power, go to bootloader and my screen still black. huh. i push vol down button one time to go to recovery mode and it works, my phone vibate once again.
I hope this is not hardware problems bcz i live in Indonesia and htc Indonesia wont accept my phone to be repaired. Anyone had this issue before?

I'm guessing its either swipe to clear or tb that screwed your phone up. Since swipe to clear deals with the screen I'm leaning towads that. Also in your tb backup you restored did you have the ponury gesture app ??? Henceforth you should try a full wipe, if you have a superwipe zip I'd recommend flashing it. Then wipe cache,data,davlik-cache. Then either restore a nand or flash a fresh rom without any mods and see if the issue remains. Also if you restore with tb only restore app not apps+data. Also what rom were you running??

can i control twrp via adb? it seems to hard for me bcz the screen is still black on recovery mode.. :-(
Well in your post you stated that your recovery was working thats why I posted the above post. Are you able to get into fastboot and actually see the screen ???
Also what ver of twrp were you using ???

i mean everything is works but screen is black. i cant see anything also bootloader and recovery mode. but i believe its works.
go to bootloader by holding vol down and power 5 second then prress vol down then power it boots to recovery mode, i know bcz my phone was vibrate one time, but screen is black.
im on hboot 1.5 so i tried "fastboot boot recovery.img" and my phone vibrate again. i know my phone works normally except the screen is blank.
im using twrp 1.0.3
if the screen is dead why i can stiil recieve call and turn on hotspot?? (i know place of hotspot toggle in quick setting, 2nd row)..
really appreciate all helps..

If you're in Indonesia, I'm guessing you have a gsm phone.viperROM is cdma. You'll have to flash a gsm ROM. Your screen issues are probably due to kernel issues.

no, my phone is cdma unlocked with local network. thats why htc wont accept my phone, they just accept all gsm evo 3d that officially launch here.
anyone can help? please..
It sounds like LCD is bad. The digitizer is good still. You will probably have to order one on eBay and fix it yourself. Sorry man

It is the lcd screen. I have a coworker who has the same issue. Can answer calls, but screen dead. You will have to replace the lcd. There are guides and videos on here, so it shouldn't be to hard.

Hi people. I'm really new to rooting and I have a note sgh i717m. It's with bell but the root worked. The CM 10.1.2 Rom I installed keeps giving me problems. My phone runs fine for a while then the screen will start to get all fuzzy. ( like a bad cable connection or something) then it will go orange and die. I tried installing the lower stable edition cm 10.1 and it worked for a while but it came back. Any suggestions. I'm frustrated and feel like going back to crummy touch wiz just to get rid of this problem

Have you tried disabling HW Overlays in Developer Options?
In case you didn't know, the Developer options are disabled. However you can bring them back by doing the following:
Go to System Settings -> About Phone
Start tapping on the Build number for a few times and the developer options will be enabled. I know it's kind of silly but it's an easteregg :laugh:

It didn't work the problem persisted. One thing I noticed is when I change the wallpaper the problem temporaraly goes away. Thanks for your guys efforts

Wait, It might be working. I reset casche and I think it reset that setting. Trying it again

I believe you must reset it each time it boots up.

Ya, I just came to that realization. I've done a little research on it and I think its because the rom isn't perfect for my phone yet, and that this thing uses GPU instead of CPU so it uses more battery. Also that it makes my phone choppy but in the end its the lesser of two evils
