I was trying out the ##DEBUG# (##33284#) dialer code and go to EVDO Engineering to find out my EVDO connections stats in my area and I noticed that the current state is "Fail" every time and a popup that says "Failed to get EVDO Data".
I also noticed on the Sprint Zone app and I go to Help -> I Need Help ->My connections with Voice and Data with green or red icons associated with it. The Voice has a green icon but the Data has a red icon. This further proves that it has an authentication problem.
Anyone seen this before and know of a way to correct this without trying to do a factory reset on the phone?

As a battery saving technique I have been in the habit of forcing the radio to radio 1X only (no EV-DO) whenever I know I don't need heavy data usage. This method still allows my exchange server to sync by push, but internet browsing is way slow. So if I am going to need browsing, I switch back to EV-DO.
But to to this, as far as I know, requires going into EPST and changing the Modem Setting Preferred Mode to "CDMA Only".
Unfortunately this method requires a soft reset to make it work which is fine if you don't need EV-DO speed downloads for a few hours/days. But if you want to switch between 1X and EV-DO quickly its not a workable solution.
Does anyone know a method of changing from "1X only" to "EV-DO" and back without going into EPST and without a soft reset?

do you have a 'mode of operation' page under phone settings?
if not, it will show for all carriers on next release...
i can look up the reg to unhide the setting for you when i get home.
Thanks dcd. I was a bit worried about that "Mode of Operation" setting because my phone doesn't have it available. A search through the forums mentioned that setting but because my phone didn't have it I assumed that the titan/WM6.1 didn't support it.
Now that I know it is a reg hack to make it viewable I will have a look in the registry. If I can't find where to change the setting myself I will await your answer.
just search your registry for HiddenModeOperationPage
OK found it.
If anyone else is interested in using "1X only" to save battery power AND the "Mode of Operation" item is missing from Start-->Settings-->Phone-->Services tab then you need to edit the registry using PHM Registry Editor (or similar).
Go to HKLM>Software>OEM>PhoneSetting and then change the the Reg_Dword called HiddenModeOperationPage from value 1 to value 0.
Then you will have the ability to switch between 1X, EV-DO and Hybrid in the phone settings page. There is a warning in the registry that says that if you select EV-DO you will lose the ability to make voice calls (presumably because EV-DO only supports data not voice and data like 1X). Therefore I would assume the options you should choose are really between 1X and Hybrid.
Thanks dcd for the help. Hope it assists anyone else looking to save battery power.
I posted this at PPCgeeks as well, hopefully someone here can help me figure this out.
I recently did a ##786# reset and now I can't seem to get the radio to turn on (after turning it on in communications tab the "No Service" icon is displayed). I'm able to call *228 with the 1.08.99V (or U?) radio from the ESN repair thread, but I can't make or receive any calls.
In CDMA workshop it's showing the following:
Mode: CDMA (Sleep)
Entry: Offline Mode
Any ideas?
Figured it out, needed to do the ##786# reset with the 1.08.99 radio to allow write access. Works great now. This can be closed
I've contacted Verizon about the constant data-dropping issue I've been having with my Thunderbolt. The suggestion was to change the modem settings through:
Dial ##778
Edit Mode
000000
Modem Settings
Rev. A
Enable
OK
Menu
Commit Modifications
My question is, would these settings stay if I wipe and change ROM, especially from Sense to AOSP? I'm assuming ##778 woudn't even work under AOSP, but if I changed it under Sense, would the settings stick?
Yes, even if you wipe everything it was still active 3 roms later when I went to see why the handoff between 3g and 4g was taking so long it was still under enable.
If I helped you in any way please use the thank you button
So what does each option do? I mean enable vs ephrd? I have had data drop issues and I just changed the Rev.A settings to enable. But I would love to know why I am doing this.
That would disable 4G, I suppose?
How to program the model under a different service provider? I installed Official Rom 2.3.4 (Sense 2.1) # 2.11.605.5
After logging into the engineering menu and connect to the program QPST & DFS (as well as after dialing # # 778) line displays the ESN number 000000. Normally there should be a set of numbers \ letters.
I have no idea ... : (

Try pulling your battery out, if that dosnt reset the settings go under Settings-about phone-system updates
Run PRL first ( Prefered roaming list)
Run Profile update ( this is for data connections)
Make sure under wireless connections that the phone shows that is is selected to be on automatic connection
Take off any roaming gaurds and re-boot after the changes have been made. Also try toggleing the airplane mode on/off to reupdate connections.
lastly if that all fails, go to dialer and typer *#*#4636#*#* should bring up a list of options, choose phone / connection on the top.. in the middle of the whole list it should have the option for cdma auto or auto Prl.. just verify it is on auto prl...
GOOD LUCK

If the phone and Clear (4G) is working Maybe Sprint forget to tell Clear your back on the network?
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
For some reason, I can't get 4G anymore, even when other people in my office (with VZW) are showing a strong signal. I have tried battery pulling, a simply power off/on, and even a restart. Doesn't fix it. My phone IS rooted. I can connect to wifi, but I can't get a data connection when it is off.
So right now, all I have is voice without Wifi. When I send or receive an MMS, the 4G icon will display in the notification area, then disappear when the download is complete.
Can anyone help me? I don't know what to do to get it back.
I have VZW with Unlimited Data
Thank you in advance!

Well, I ended up calling Verizon and after having them search on their internal forums, they figured out the issue. Apparently, I changed the "Access Point Name" to something else other than "VZWINTERNET" and I lost complete access to all data networks (EVDO, 3G, 4G).
So, because I hate it when I find a post that has a problem I'm having, and the original poster says "I'll call Verizon and write the solution here when I get it" and you never hear back from them, I'm going to post my solution for the next guy.
Basically, the Access Point Names option is under Settings > Connections Tab > More Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names. It should display only one option, and it should say "LTE - Verizon Internet", and under it, it should display "VZWINTERNET". If you change this value, by clicking on it, you go to another screen that says "Edit Access Point" at the top. You can change only one thing, and that is the APN name.
DO NOT CHANGE THIS VALUE. If it is anything other than "VZWINTERNET", you will lose all data access completely, that is, unless you're doing something Advanced that requires you to change it, and you know what you're doing. Also, if you factory reset the phone, it WILL NOT change this value back to the default. It will stay the same...so...something to think about.
In any case, I hope this helps the next guy with the same problem.
