[Q] Any news on the OTA ICS Update for the Thunderbolt? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It's been a while since I've heard anything.
I really can't wait for it to be available to us rooted users

Maybe if you ask three more times, there'll be an update.

Several reliable sources have reported that every time someone asks, Google, HTC and VZW add 30 days to the release date, you just moved it into next year!

Verizon Tech Support says ICS on Thuderbolt
I talked to a tech for Verizon because I was having issues with my Thunderbolt. I got onto the subject of ICS and she said that the update is being pushed and that she has it on her personal Thunderbolt. Can anyone confirm ICS push on Thunderbolt yet?

Yeah if it were really being pushed, it would be all over every android blog out there, and my Twitter would be going apesh*t.
Besides, ICS for the tbolt wasn't announced that long ago, so the chances of it being ready to push are... well 0%

as for my own personal experience, the Verizon techs are less intelligent and skilled then 99% of the people in these forums. the only answer I ever got out of them was "send it to us for warranty replacement", or "you must do a factory reset and then call us if the problem doesn't go away". One of them replied to my question about ICS with "what is Ice Cream Sandwich"

I prefer choco tacos over ice cream sandwich anyways... By the time that gets pushed, well probably take advantage of our new upgrades.

I'm actually hopeful that the Eris will get an official 2.2 update. I've been with Verizon for many years and if they want to keep me under contract they better keep me satisfied....which means keep my phone up-to-date (somewhat) at least until the end of my 2 years. Not that it really matters, seeing as we have awesome developers that put us on Froyo before most phones got their OTA.
On a side note. Anyone heard the rumors of Android 2.5?

The Eris isn't mentioned but the implications are that our phone will get 10.1 flash.
By this I mean our phone is HTC and the Incredible is HTC. Once it gets official OTA we can port it to the Eris and try to get flash working for us. I think that's what TC must have meant.
The sales rep at the Verizon store told me all the Droid phones were getting 2.2 rolled out including the Eris. I saw some sales reps using it still so it's still a pretty widely used phone.

One incentive for Verizon to update the Eris to Froyo would be not to disgruntle existing customers and causing them to leave the network when their contract is up. I know, me personally, that I'm pretty disgruntled about the quality of service they give us Eris owners.
Gingerbread is going to be Android 3.0, and will have a recommended CPU speed of 1 GHz. Yes, devs will probably get it running on the Eris, but the hardware might just be too depreciated by that point to run it.

If you s-off ruu back to the gb ota and go to settings and check for update
1.) pics or it didnt happen
2.) this is the wrong section. this should be in the general or QA because you asked a question. the development section is for rom development.
3.) if you saw this on htc website, it still hasnt dropped

You can not... you need to wait for a zip or RUU to be able to load over a custom rom. If it is true that ICS has been released officially you can convert back to stock easy if you are S-Off and then pull down the update.

Well if you mean towards jelly bean, yes and no. I don't think we can get aosp jb as their wont be a kernel for it. I think since JB is closely related to ICs versus the big difference between GB and ICS that it wont be as hard to go from one to the other
Correct me if I am wrong here. Trying to answer based on what I skim and read.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Actually yes, Chad is working on the kernel/RIL issue. I talked to Dmaedows on twitter informed him of it, it was the first he heard of Chad's working on it. Tweeted back later, it seems the two are going to work together, or at the very least Dmeadows is going to merge his fixes with Chad to make something useable.
But as always, remain cautiously optimistic, no promises.
http://www.twitlonger.com/show/i7dae2
I doubt we'll get a fully working JB port any time soon, few months at best.
Last I read on the ICS RIL was the kernel source was needed so we are stuck waiting for the update to be release and the source to be posted on HTC's dev site shortly afterwards...
No idea if that's truly the hold up, just something I saw awhile back.

Update confirmed

Just left a corporate Sprint store issues with not making calls( NETWORK OF COURSE) anyways asked tech guy if he heard of update coming anytime soon. Sprint stores don't know a whole lot more than people here. And "update is coming soon" could be just a way of getting you out of the store.

I can come on here and say I got the update myself, and I'm the only one that Sprint is letting test it right now in the real world. It doesn't really hold water. Unless there's a press release saying that it's "coming" or is being pushed, there's no way to confirm this is true.

But, to bubble this up a little. The HTC One X has Jelly Bean rolling out right now, Android version 4.1.2. News is hitting Google within the last hour.

I agree with you sentiment. I can't wait to get android 4.2. I'll get it early because I'm already using Cleanrom 2.5 which is 1.29 based. I know it will eventually go to android 4.2, I'll flash and then I doubt I'll notice it on a day to day basis. If I get a little better battery life, I'll be ecstatic.

So it is, I thought it had been updated to the 1.29 based kernel. I was flashing the ElementalX kernel over Cleanrom but didn't do it when he went to Cleanrom 2.5. Thanks for pointing that out, I was mistaken.

That doesn't mean you haven't spammed the forums with numerous threads that are of no value to anybody. If you don't have anything ACTUALLY useful to contribute then you should stick to lurking and flashing roms. And even if you did have something useful to say nobody was joking when they said delete your account and start over. You will likely never be taken seriously here.
