I have to have my tablet either repaired or replaced. Has anyone does this??
I am trying to find out how long it takes, and was it a new tablet or a refurb?
I haven't actually seen anybody report doing this - most people who had early issues just brought their tablets back to the retailer. Now that we're past return period for a bunch of us, I guess somebody's going to have to figure out how the process works.
I have a broken G Tab right now (mini-USB port connector fell off the mainboard) so I'd be curious to hear what you learn. I bought another tablet, but if you can get it warranty-repaired that would be a nice option.
Actually they are going to. I got a RMA number a fedex label sent to me VIA
email, and they said once sent to them, it would take 10 to 14 days to send
out a new one. I asked if it would be a new or refurb, he did say new. I just
thought I would post asking if anyone has done this, just to be sure.
Thank you for taking the time to post this. What is broken on yours?
Please let us know how your experience goes. I hope it is quick. 10 days sounds reasonable to me.

Dust under screen. The touch screen seems weird to.
there is also the very shady option of buyin a new gtab, swapping it out with ur broken one and returning that..
So how'd it go? I'm about to send mine in but I'm hesitant because I use it for school.
Just sent mine in. Will post updates so other people learn from my experience.
Nice on the phone, but not helpful in the end. Sent my Gtablet to fix broken glass top, and they ended up sending it back to me without replacing it or fixing it in any way. They said it wasn't covered by the warranty.
Still looking for a way to replace it myself.. Tablet works, just hard to see anything with all the cracks everywhere in the glass.
As much as I love my Gtablet, Viewsonic could learn a thing or two about better warranties. Have had screen issues with my Nexus One and other devices and always had great support and got my stuff fixed.
I got an RMA number. The guy said he'd send in a new one. I told him specifically that I don't want another person's tablet. Either the same one, or brand new.
The problem with mine is that a particular off-white color is not displaying properly, and being substituted by cyan.
... You can imagine what I see when look at the Viewsonic and G-tablet intro screen upon boot up.... All cyan with weird vertical lines encircled with the logos...
Thank goodness I have 2 tablets to work with . The ****ty thing is that I have to drive across the border to ship it. One of the few cons of being a Canadian...

For some reason my 1st post didn't take!
Try the AT&T store. A colleague of mine dropped his new iPhone 4 last week smashing the camera lens. On the off chance he went to the AT&T store, and although the part was not there in the store, they have ordered it for him free/gratis. Never hurts to ask! I was dumbfounded when he told me this, but it happened nevertheless.
Guess my 1st post did take cos' I see you posted the same question in both General and Q&A, and I apparently responded to both.
Please don't do this again!

Damn! He posted it in a 3rd???
/ignore from now on!!!
It seems i've made something wrong...
yes i've posted in three forums, just because i didn't know in which one the topic fit the best :
1-Atrix 4G General
Discussion about the AT&T Motorola Atrix 4G (general, tips & tricks, Q&A, etc)
It is a general question (looking for spare parts) and the forum description includes Q&A.
2-Atrix 4G Q&A
For all of your questions relating to the AT&T Motorola Atrix 4G
This is a question!
3-Atrix 4G Accessories
Accessories for the AT&T Motorola Atrix 4G (cases, screen protectors, batteries, etc)
not an accesorie but about spare part, so it is related.
I just wanted to maximize the chance to get an answer by posting in these forums.
Before posting, i've checked that in any of them there was a thread about replacement part for power button/fingerprint reader replacement part.
So please calm down, there is no need to ask for ignore/ban me. As all of you (i hope!) i'm human and we can do mistake and learn from. I did one and i won't do it again.
Back to the original topic
Thank you CaelanT for your answer but i'm in europe, so reaching a AT&T store will be difficult/very expensive for me...
(yes, i've posted in ATRIX 4 AT&T forum, but for this replacement part it doesn't matter, and this phone is not only sold in US: canada, belgium, UK, fance... and this is the only one forum about Motorola Atrix in this website),
It is easy to find replacement part for screen or other part on the net, but i've spent one full day looking for fingerprint reader and found..... nothing!
Moreover it is a pity for a phone which is so easy to open and replace/repair itself (tutorial available on ifixit)
Anyone else has any idea/suggestions/websites for replacement parts?
You posted a question............so I am guessing Q&A not every forum!
This is all I could find in a quick search for parts:

I am having the very same issue and none of the replies here are helping. All I am seeing is persons complaining and sending people all over the place to other post which dont have the answer. I have been searching online for a solution and I am not seeing anything other than take it back to at&t which is not possible because at&t is in America.
Anyways If there is someone kind enough to (1) explain where is the actual power button located (in the finger print scanner or under the scanner) and (2) what to change to get this fix( eg a ribbon, the finger print scanner or is there a button I should buy). I am not looking for a work around what I want to do is change what ever it is that I need to change to get fix.
Thing is, power burton is a soft button sitting below the fingerprint reader, it is completely independant. Thing is, i dont remeber if it is soldered to the motherboard or is apart. Either way, i think tou need to get it from another atrix.
Here at the forum a user posted a site that sells spare parts at low prices, perhaos they have what you need!

It's part of one of the flex cables.
There is a picture of it here at the iFixit teardown:
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Motorola+Atrix+4G+Teardown/4964/2
and one with the tape removed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2379939
Have you tried ebay? There spares all over the place and if you don't find the flex itself you may as well buy an Atrix with a broken LCD and use it for parts.

Two ebay sellers told me that the flex cable dont come with the power button so I took your advise and bought one that is damage, lcd and digitizer. This will in fact work out better for me being that my digitizer is bad ( already had order one which is on its way) I broke off the wifi button on the board and not the power button got damage.
So for all the people out ther asking about the power BUTTON ITS RIGHT UNDER THE FINGERPRINT SCANNER AND IS NOT SOLD ON THE FLEX CABLE YOU HAVE TO GET IT FROM AN OLD ATRIX SAME FROM THE WIFI EITHER GET IT FROM ANOTHER ATRIX OR BUY A MOTHERBOARD .. I have no idea where to get a board from.
So my touch screen stopped working and im figuring its the digitizer because everything else works, boots into OS and everything. Plus i took it apart and the wire was snapped . question is, i have the optimus v but i cannot find ANYWHERE that has a digitizer specific for it. I have found one for the optimus s on ebay, which looks exactly the same, same button holes and everything. will this digitizer work for the optimus v? thanks in advance, this sucks as i do not have a replacement and am broke as a joke at the moment. would be nice just to buy a $22 digitizer instead of a $150 phone. thanks!
an ebay search turned up a variety of optimus parts for a variety of models, I'd say keep an eye on it as their stuff changes daily. LG might be an option for parts, too...
can't answer your hardware compatibility question, I'm afraid, except that the software is compatible and I'd guess that the hardware is also the same way.
I'm answering this here instead of in mmarz's thread to match the topic.
Thanks. i ordered the optimus s digitizer off ebay, finally got my ebay account verified so i could buy it now. jesus it took forever . but if u actually open ur optimus v it says on the main board LS 670 which is the model number for the optimus s. so the v is the s with different branding on the front. how funny haha. The part should get here within a week im hoping, shipping from hong kong. ill update the thread accordingly cause im sure im not the ONLY ONE that this has happened to. globaldirectparts.com is the only other place ive found a digitizer specific for the optimus s/v and there site is down due to major shipping delays. this should work tho, ill just have sprint branding on my OV from now on. Im gonna give that LED customization a try on my old front housing to see how it looks then if its nice ill do it on the new one, or maybe not haha it was a frickin hassle to get this new digitizer, i dont wanna do anything to jeopardize the function of the new display. thanks again for the one and only response in days . look forwarding to sharing the good news
there's a couple suggestions for ebay in mmarz's thread now too.
glad the suggestion helped.
I was pretty sure they're the same thing, people on another forum have talked about using lg's updater to flash sprint firmware and only broke their service instead of bricking the phone.
makes me wanna dissect the newest sprint firmware and compare.
edit: I bet if it works ok you can get a sticky, it's important info!
Anybody had any luck repairing broken glass on prime? I got new glass on ebay, but it looks like it needs to be glued to a plastic bezel, and not sure how to remove old one, and what to use to glue the new one on.

I am trying the same... It seems as if the LCD is glued to the Glass + Digitizer that you have bought.
The only way to seperate is to use suction cups to pull them apart after heating with a hair dryer/heat gun.
Couple of issues with this approach
- Heating reduces the life of LCD
- With a broken glass it's impossible to use a suction cup and pull both things apart. You may damage LCD screen...
I also had opened a DIY thread to repair prime, but received no inputs so far from others. hence I am assuming it's very tricky.
I am hedging bet on buying a second hand prime (ideally broken charger, broken hdmi, broken motherboard etc...).. and then taking off the entire IPS panel from it to replace on my tablet.
Whatever you do, do let me know how it goes as I am in the same boat.
It is not glued. There is some tape but no heat is needed. There are a couple of articles and videos online if you Google it. Its not hard at all.

There is a movie on youtube for the original Transformer TF101.The process should be almost the same for the TF201.
Use an exacto knife inserted between the two layers and work your way around the entire perimeter of the screen (a heated exacto would probably work best, but a regular would work too. The heated one just slides through the tape better).
Make a mark on the blade of the knife to avoid inserting it too far to risk damaging the ribbon cable (though your new screen should have the cables on them, so probably doesn't matter if you damage the old ones). Using the new replacement screen as a template, you should be able to mark your blade to get deep enough without getting too deep to risk damaging any components.
After running the blade between the glass & lcd around the entire perimeter the 2 should come apart. Scrape off the old tape, and use new foam 2-sided tape (2-3 mil thickness) to adhere the lcd to the new glass. Then you should be able to just reassemble.
Here is a link to the video. It's not great quality (as you will see) but gets the idea across. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brcZLrocBio

Not being abusive just stating fact. more and more people on xda expect other people to do the leg work for them and spoon feed them..
I was able to pull up a lot of information on replacing the screen dont believe me? http://bit.ly/R9k9Rs
My point is you could have done the same thing instead of asking someone else to do it, post links and spoon feed you the information. If I said I came across links to something I might not have them handy, just remember coming across them so in essence I would have to search FOR YOU and go out of my way to look for something you could look for yourself. XDA is not a personal tech support service..

Not sure what the heck is your problem.
I have done googling for 1 week now (spending over 2hrs every day).. I have gone through all ebay listings to check for video/instructions to replace TF201 LCD screen, I have gone through 7-10 pages of google results as well...
I have opened my prime atleast 3 times in an attempt to seperate glass from IPS panel...
Ppl have opened prime.. to fix gps. not to replace LCD yet.
There is no video/instruction out there in internet that expains how to seperate screen + digitizer from IPS panel for TF201.
As an end-user I wanted to see some real instructions/video of TF201 before i try it myself... just to ensure I don't screw up my device.
It been frustrating to go through every link on google searches and realize that this hit is for TF101, ipad, iphone screen replacement and not for TF201.
You look to be a smart person, so if you do find anything helpful on internet that is applicable for tf201 screen seperation, please share and help us with. I am checking everyday too...
Hmm - when searching on Google I found a nice link about 3/4 of the way down on the first page which is a video of the Prime disassembly. Pretty useful. Not sure why it's taken you 1 week+ without finding any information when two people in this thread (myself and graffixnyc) in 15secs find links to help you. Watch through it... it does not show how to separate digitizer from ips panel.

And you alluded to the fact that you aren't. Don't ask people to do your job. Period. It is not anyone else's job here, or anywhere unless you're paying them for the service, to find things for you. End of discussion.
Just looked into this for entertainment sake, and while there are several videos and howtos about disassembling the prime, I can find no video or tutorial where they separate the LCD from the Digitizer. There are several posts saying that it should be possible, but I can't find someone who did.
Of course, I only looked for a few minutes. Your mileage may vary.

my issue is not googling... but that after several days of googling, that I have still not found anything relevant.

You are severely mistaken. XDA is not about people doing your job for you. Do not ask others to do your job and then report back. Asking if others have been able to do it is one thing, but to ask others to search and then find and then post back here is not right.
Another thing... do not sit here and tell a senior moderator to move on. It is you who is at fault here in your methodology.

I did my job. I have a thread to prove it where I am trying to help xda community with documenting stepsto replace prime screen as well.

I got stuck at a step, hence I asked for help with someone else on xda who may have replaced screen or finds a resource that i may have missed finding. I am happy to document steps for others benefit.
What's wrong with this?
Finding reproducible steps to replace a prime screen with no damage would be very useful for every one. So many folks have broken screens.
With due respect, being a senior moderator does not make you right all the time.

Hi All!
Basically, I am looking at buying one of these little beauties... (Motorola Atrix UK Model)
I'm kind of collecting phones and I intend on making one of these my next daily driver... The specs look good; plenty of development goes on so it's looking good...
Only a couple of things I wish to know if possible...
1. I see quite a few on eBay have faulty digitizers, after some research I see this is a pretty common fault with this device, my main question is this: - "If I were to get a digitizer replaced professionally / or I replaced it as I have done previously on HTC's, how long would it be approximately before I need to do this again?" Does this keep occurring say 6months down the line? Or was this a one off due to a faulty batch of digitizers at Motorola Factories once upon a time?
2. Are there any other common faults I should look out for or expect..?
Thanks very much for any reply!
Cheers, Adam.
nobody got any input? :S
Does everybody just sell them as soon as they get the digitizers replaced? Therefore not knowing if it happens again down the line..?
OK.. It took a massive effort for Motorola to fix the digitizer about 6 months ago for me since the capacitance buttons stopped working and the screen kept getting stuck in between. 6 months later (ie. NOW), the digitizer is playing up again and I now have about 1cm worth of "dead area" about 3/4 of the way up that does not respond to touch anymore. I would highly recommend people against buying this phone (new or second hand) because of these stupid issues.
It isn't that hard of a fix really. I've replaced more than a few and one was because of the dead area issue. It is fine after a few months.
Will it occur again? I have no way to know. It took over nine months and a crack in the screen to get it to act up in the first place. So I guess time will tell.
The replacements cost around 30 bucks and if you get one of the ones linked the frame digitizer is already mounted to the frame.
Search youtube for Atrix 4g teardown and you will find more than a few adequate tutorials.
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...=Motorola+Atrix+4G+MB860+digitizer+with+frame
I love my Atrix so much that our Family has 6 of them. All daily drivers for people that range from a techie, business professional, housewife, teenager, a senior and a youngster. We are all very satisfied. Some of us use the docks and those are all good too. No one has a car dock, so I won't speak for that.
I will replace mine if the Note2 is as awesome as depicted. But unless something like that comes out there's no better phone imho.
Well I gotta say thanks soo much guys for the replies
Very mixed messages there but as I understand it, if I buy one with replacing the digitizer in mind and am quite competent in doing that then its deffo a good phone to buy
Thinking of buying one of these if anybody has an opinion please please let me know!?: -

Cheers! Adam.
My suggestion for you: Don't buy it!
My Atrix digitizer spoilt 3 times in a year. It's been stable after my last replacement (about 2-3 months ago), but at the rate that it failed me before, I really doubt if it can last any longer. Therefore, I highly recommend you not to involve with this crappy piece of product.
Don't buy an Atrix. Nearly everyone in this forum will confirm this. Motorola gives a SH** on the Atrix just got my Atrix repaired at moto and it came back with wrong placed LED, scratch on the back and without camera lens. Just try out the Galaxy nexus..nice phone.
Hope I helped

For your own sanity DO NOT BUY AN ATRIX
Also I have had 3 different Motorola phones that have lost the sound on the ear piece.
Failures of our beloved Atrix:
On 3 Atrix phones
Atrix #1 (new) broken ear piece 10 months in.
Atrix #2 (replacement) broken digitizer after 5 months of use.
Atrix #3 (new) broken digitizer and Bluetooth 14 months in.
Avoid motofail.
