Since we've had root for a bit now, has anyone figure out a way yet what to edit in the build.prop either HC or ICS so we can see some of the gameloft games or other apps not made for Prime? I guess the closest device to emulate is the Gnexus?
Some had success changing it to the Galaxy Tab, when i edited the build.prop it put my tablet in to a boot loop.

Just wondering how you got it out of the bootloop? I'm going to look for that thread and try it but need a way to get out of it.
Returned to bestbuy and got a new one. I know it wasn't fair to Asus but at that time there was no eta to the bootloader unlock being released.
Not worth the risk..just wait it out. Wait till xoom version on ICS gets updated or acer500 or acer200 version. That way no editing even needed. I had acer500 version of Modern combat3 and worked perfect on HC but ICS update broke it. We have to wait till another tablet on ICS with 1280x800 resolution comes available for updated games.

Ya I hear ya. Thats why I'm still on HC on my new Prime so I can play certain games or apps. But would be nice if there was more compatibility. Just hate waiting...but seems I have no other choice at least for now.

how are you able to stay on HC for so long without Asus forcing the ICS update on you? I thought after 3 putoffs it'll automatically update itself.

I get the notice on the bottom but I dont click on it after I see what its for so it doesnt start the download. It goes away after I reboot then comes back on again and just ignore it again. I think what Asus does is you get 3 notices then after the 3rd it'll stop asking. I havent seen it in a while.
I got a 10.1 wifi recently and am wondering if its worth it to root now and get ics installed (with the -of no camera) or to wait untill samsung gets its act together, and get the offical version.
You're asking in an Android Hacking forum, we're all rooted and I'd bet 80% are running ICS .
If you can live without the camera then definitely go for it, if you're comfortable. You could be waiting a while on Samsung, they tend to delay such things.
If do decide to root it, don't be afraid to ask questions here. Welcome to XDA.
I don't know if the question asked is appropriate or a trick question considering this forum is completely dedicated to the benefits of hacking to gain maximum benefit.

It's really not very hard to try it out for yourself and see if you like it. You can always flash back to stock if you need to.
I have CM9 ICS on my personal tablet, but am still using 3.2 on my G-Tab 10.1 because I need the camera for work. I am running the Overcome ROM on it though, which gives me a little more options/flexibility than stock samsung.
but as far as performance, there is little difference between 3.2 HC and ICS (at least at this point). There are some UI differences that I like, but they are minor changes from honeycomb, so don't expect a huge difference on ICS.
Easy answer: yes, it is. And it's very easy to install ics. Just do it and have fun.
Three more questions:
Is there any other bugs besides the camera not working?
And any links to upto date root and ics (i think i read 4.0.4?)?
Is it not possible to get the camera drivers (which from what I have read is the missing link) from the old stock version?
Fyi I have the Samsung 10.1 wifi gt-p7510
Thank you guys already I am not trolling btw i have never rooted/ flash a new operating system on android and kind of afraid of bricking my tablet.

QBKing77 has great video instructions on YouTube, check it out. Very easy. Make sure you do a backup b4 putting a rom on and make sure it's for your Tab. Only issue I have ever had is no camera, but I knew that going in and I use my S2 for pics anyway. We can't get the camera because Sammy will not release the needed info. You can brick your tablet that's a risk but there r ways to unbrick, like I said just make sure the root method and from is for your version of the Galaxy Tab.

Once rooted you wont look back and its so easy and quick to do. Much more freedom IMO, I started with ICS and its great, but went back to HC just because of the camera. Such a shame, I have htc dhd phone rooted on ics and camera works fine, just a samsung thing.
As said previously, give it a try
Question about rooting what dose it allow you to do?
Rooting allows you to gain access to the system files, lets just say its like your employee ID to get into your company
i rooted my g tab to ics once, i guess it was worth it, but i went back to honeycomb because of the camera.
It's not like camera on a tab plays a great feature, because taking pictures with the tab is like using a laptop to take a 5MP picture.
I'd say I never use the camera on my tab.......... Until I flashed ics then I just kept needing it think it's just a case of wanting what you don't have.. So I'm back to HC.
Is there any good roms out there with the camera working? Sorry for the noob question, Im a new tab owner.

I use the camera with visidon which lets me face lock certain apps, also lets me make video calls and google goggles to translate foreign signs so yeah camera is a must have for me and not necessarily for taking pictures

Sorry to bump this, but I'm curious to know if it's easy to replace the tablet for a decent price? That's really my only concern about rooting my tablet.
Of course it is, you are in the right place
i havent flashed the 10.1 to ICS purely because i use the camera for such things as skype or google hangouts.
so im using overcome rom, but i miss being able to group apps into a folder like ICS can do
ICS Or Not??? That is the Question!!!!
Over the last 6 months I have tried every ROM listed for the Galaxy Tab here on XDA, including ICS. I must say ICS offers better battery life, faster processing and better visuals, but I am like a few others and need the camera so I am sticking with Galaxy Task Rom. Out of all of them it is the most stable, and fastest giving me Quadrant Scores of just under 3100. Using ICS I was closer to 3600 and I thought at one point hit 3800, but I think that was a fluke, but then I had no camera, so back to 3.2. For me I have compiled the best apps I could to make my tablet a screamer.....If you have any others please let me know.
Galaxy Task
OC 1.4 Pershoot Kernel (is there a 1.5 or 1.6)
Swapper File @ 500mb (app)
SD Speed Boost set at 4000 (app)
Volume + set on Beats Emulation with +10 speaker increase (app)
Poweramp for a 10 band equalizer for great sound (app)
Now using the same apps with ICS made it ultra fast. But I wish the camera worked.
Definately appreciate everyone on here with their input.....my knowledge is only as good as flashing and recovery, but am trying to learn more as I move forward. Love the Galaxy Tab, it is my 10th tablet I have owned and my favorite. Now I have to figure out how to flash my Atrix 2 phone........love this site!!!!
Quick ques about ICS Roms [from what I've seen in Cm9/Muiu]
1. can you change screen mode [dynamic/movie/normal]
2. change font styles?
I don't remember seeing these options, but it was about a month ago when I flashed these Roms?

Hey, so i have been a tf201 owner sinc jan but after several rma's and etc the tablet still isnt where it should be in terms of performance and stability and so i said **** the warranty since it wasnt doing **** for me anyway and unlocked the bootloader. since i am a lil late to the game, what roms are considered the cream of the crop for this device right now? i would appreciate if you could list the rom and then why you think it is the best and possibly where you think it may come short if there are any downfalls...
thanks

I used a JB rom that worked very well, but BT audio streaming didnt work. It would pair, but not push the audio.

Seems to me that now is the time to wait a bit longer before going with a Custom Rom. The Asus 4.1 update is probably only a few weeks away and once the developers have that to work with the custom crowd will improve rapidly. So far, every time I read about a 4.1 ROM, it comes with a list of the things that are not working yet. So you will probably get a fully functional JB ROM from Asus first.

I agree even though it's discontinued. Install it with the cayenne overclock. Rubs quickly and few if any force closes.
Alternatively try the cm10 unofficial worth no cherry picks. It is unbelievably smooth and fast.

Virtuous is another solid ICS choice. I think it is still in development/supported. That said, I'm currently running AW2.1, too. I'm not looking to be on the cutting edge right now, I need a daily driver. I will probably go CM10 or with a modded stock ROM after the ASUS JB update drops. I'm really looking forward to JB.
Honestly I think ICS has been a BIG part of the problem for the Prime. Its image had already been tarnished with the hardware issues but the crashes and instability are much worse from a daily use standpoint. I got mine in January too and it was much more stable for me prior to ICS, the most recent build (.28) in fact has been a complete wreck on my device (I even wiped it and reinstalled .28 to try to get it going properly) and is what prompted me to unlock. Really, the hardware has been no problem on mine. The GPS is dead, but I actually knew it probably would be going in so it is not a biggie and my WiFi and BT are really no problem, Cameras are fine, etc. But not being able to basic things like web browsing and running GMail without crashing were a deal breaker.
I still get occasional reboots/flakiness with AW2.1 but it is based on ASUS ICS. I'm really hopeful for JB, as I mentioned since they seemed to have got it righ t on the N7.
Wifi
I just finished installing CM10 preview. I have been running it on my SIII for a couple days now and really like it. I'll report back in a few days with an update about the Prime running it.
I also ran into a problem getting wifi to work on any JB based ROM, going to the advanced tab in CWM and fixing permissions seemed to clear the problem up. Thought I would pass this info along, I couldn't find anybody reporting similar issues.
Ive been running JM CM10 Preview no cheery picks and every version gets better. it is a complete daily driver if you dont need Bluetooth streaming or NTFS support.
i haven't had any browser force closes, i can actually install multiple playstore apps at once and still use the playstore with out getting "playstore is not responding do you want to wait"
its fast and clean.
since Asus pretty much uses stock AOSP roms anyways, and the CM10 JB Preview is pretty much AOSP then I would wait personally for the Asus OTA for 4.1.
you get to keep your warranty and know that JB will resolve almost all the Force close issues wit browsers etc.

If the issue is the browser, why not just install Chrome on the stock ROM? Personally I have never really used the built in browser. I keep Dolphin around for the once in a while I need flash but otherwise use Chrome. Chrome is the default in 4.1 anyway.
Does the JB they will improve the wifi?
Increasing the signal?
Because I did not get one accessory that ASUS released.
My wife has a T-Mobile Prism phone and I do not see any mention of it in the forum. I myself have the GS3 which rocks!
Am I missing something? I think the phone has the 2.3 gingerbread or honeycomb...I am not sure (she is not home so I cannot look at the phone right now) about the specs of the phone and operating system.
Anyway if anyone could point me in the right direction as to what I can do with this phone to make it faster for her would be apprecited. If I could root the phone I would like to set her up with tethering so she can use her laptop wherever she is. Also if the phone could handle ICS or a Jelly Bean ROM that would be awesome!
Thanks in advace for any help! This forum rocks!

Check out this guide, it will tell you what you need to do to root the phone, install CWM, and then CM 7.2 (Its gingerbread based but a very solid ROM at that). This should speed up the performance of your wife's phone, and allow for wireless/wired tethering if she wants to use it Wireless Tether. As a side note the phone would be running gingerbread (2.3-2.3.7), honeycomb (3.0-3.2) was meant for tablets . Hope this helps .

Glad I could help man , if you want a guide that might be able to help convince your wife check out this guide. If she's more of the visual learning type of person the official CM 7.2 introduction video might be helpful as well as this video, which even though it's for the Samsung Epic 4g touch it does a good job of showcasing the features of CM 7.2 on a basic and easy to understand level.
Hi all!
Could you be so kind and help me revert back to honeycomb stock?
I know it sounds crazy, but I cant stand anymore how slow and laggy CM 10.1 I currently use is on this device. I've tried a lot of things like factory reset, reflushing lates nightly etc. Still horribly slow and at times totally unresponsive.
My ultimate goal is return back to task650 rom.
However I cannot find any HC stock images. I do not think that I can simply flush HC rom in CM 6.0.3.1 recovery.
I was only able to find hc-3.2_touchwiz_ux-full_sam_tab_10.1.zip from pershoot.
Please advise! Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Not sure where to find an HC-image yet, but what about trying Omni-ROM 4.4.2 KitKat newest build (+ A1-Kernel)?
It still has got some quirks, like bluetooth-audio not working or slow Video-decoding, but the rest is quite good and fluid now.
Thanks for your reply! However we are talking about my wife tablet and she needs video/cameras and BT.
So, unfortunately KK is out consideration at this point.
By the way, is KK Omni really that better? Thought I guess anything is better then touching screen and seeing touch and then waiting a couple of seconds for an action to really happen. I do not know what Google changed in memory management, but it now doesn't hold a candle against older versions. At least for such old device as Tab 10.1 is.
If your wife doesn't need much features, go for Omni 4.3. Its very smooth and stable enough for daily use.

Camera works; Bluetooth works also, just not streaming audio to a bluetooth-audio-device; Videos also work. Lokally stored seem to be better than streamed (YouTube, gameone, etc.)

Then... What about JellyBean3 (Android 4.3.1)?
I think most if not all you need is already compatible on that and it is a lot better in any case, thought.

Even 4.1.2 cm10 was superior,... What do you think you can expect from a Kitkat-Build?
IMHO, yes it is, even with those little quirks...
...and not to be mean, but I really don't think any 4.2-build can be called stable... They all have heavy idle-times/"hangs" up to a minute, if you've got some CPU&IO-Load-Hungry apps installed and running...

Well... May be it is my bad luck... I do not remember any CM build of any version that was smooth as Task650 rom.
So, you suggest to try rollback to 4.1? I though they stopped development.
Wife use BT streaming... I just got her nice LG headphones.
I guess I softened the problem a little bit for now by removing all apps that create background services and account. FB, LinkIn etc.
It helped a little bit.

Nope. I think you should rather try a 4.3.x-based build.
