after the note are you still using your tab or ipad? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

So I'm using sprints gs2(epic touch) and a 7.7 galaxy tab samoled+(hk version)... and this Note is taunting me... I'd like to know if people who own the Note have not touched their tablet since.. be it android/ipad. It would be fantastic to eliminate a device and have one badass one. And with that 1280x800 I could imagine it .. but I'd hate to switch over and feel a need for a tablet... any thoughts would be great..

Back in the days when I had a Samsung 10.1 & SGS2, I sold the 10.1 once I upgraded to the N7000. Got the Prime once I was able to find the 64GB version. I use both but it depends where I'm at.

i use my prime while i am at the house.

I'm using my ipad alot less now that i have my Note. Still like the larger screen real estate of the ipad
sent from Galaxy Note using Tapatalk

I own a Lenovo ideapad Y560 and have a desktop. I found no need whatsoever for a tablet considering my laptop can do magnitudes more compared to a tablet. Buying a note just made the gap between smartphone to tablet to laptop almost non-existent.
Then again I expect tablets to perform almost on-par with lower to mid-end laptops. There's no reason a tablet (iPad 3 is like $700 here..) should be running Android or iOS other than ease of use when they could be running Linux or Windows. Why have a four core tablet that can't run my Guitar Pro 6 or have a full on media editor and have no S-PEN input device.
I imagine these dumb-tablets as I like to call them won't stay dumb for very long

Sold my ipad. The note is perfect. I don't feel the need for any tablets at all.

sadly i bought my prime a week before i decided to change carriers where i got my note , i havent touched my prime in over a month. i thought about selling it but being a non apple device i would take a big loss in resell.

Still use both. Asus Transformer for books/games/productivity while I charge my Note at home hehe. On the road, its note all the way.

Yea I have the galaxy tab 10.1 and I don't use it anymore. I keep trying to find a use for it though haha

I'm still using my 10.1....

Same here lol. I watch flash videos sometimes.

thanks for the reply's... guess I'll hold out for a sprint variant.. If it was unanimous on the Note completely replacing your tablet then I'd probably still be on the fence or heading down to AT&T to sign up while my Epic touch 4g is still worth ~$300

Mostly for sitting down on the couch for a quick read.

I came from an LG P990 O2X and used my laptop.
I use the laptop a lot less now, almost everything is more convenient and natural with the Note.
When people see me with it and remark on it's size, I say it's just right, I wouldn't like to go back to the smaller screen.
It's also worth bearing in mind the Note has more pixels 1280 x 800 than the IPad 2 with 1024 x 768.

I have a Amaze 4g, Galaxy Note, HP Touchpad, and Ipad 1st gen, and i have to say, the iPad is neglected (except for my daughter watching Netflix). The touchpad is used in the car for the same purpose, Netflix.
So to answer your questions, yes the Note definitely covers the phone and the tablet world very well. I don't have to carry around a 10" tablet anymore.

I use my kindle fire for games cause it has a little more real-estate screen wise. But other then that and testing some of my development I don't use it that much. I think it is more cause the note has a constant connection where the Kindle I have to make sure I have wifi. That and the note is pretty awesome.

My Nook Tablet looks almost colorless after Note. I think that 7" tablets and e-readers suffer the most since they are close in size and inferior in resolution and color. I decided to use Nook for games and books primarily. So, my Note doesn't have any games since Nook has 933 mgb of free RAM and handles games better.

What tablet everyone use with i777?

Okay I am looking for a tablet to complement/ work with my i777 running CM7. I am looking for a tablet in the 7-8 screen size. Would like one that is heavily supported and would LOVE to run CM7 or CM9. I started looking at the Samsung 7.7 Tab and 8.9 but it has its downfalls from what I see, no ext micros sd slot. Also looking for a wifi only tab. Any thoughts from those that have/use a tab with their phone?
Like I said and i hope this doesnt get closed for being in the wrong section, but I want to make sure it will work flawless with my i777 is why I posted here.

I have a xoom (pretty much the nexus of tablets) and I love it for that reason, but it's 10.1 inches and the hardware has been surpassed. I would go SAMSUNG if anything

I have a Tab 10.1 with a ZAGG combo keyboard/case. So does Task650. It's a bit dated though. No MicroSD slot, but the USB host adapter is $20 and works great.
Don't know about the 8.9.
The Tab 7 Plus had great potential, but Samsung ****ed it up with a closed-source wifi driver that seems to have some nasty bugs. Their attitude towards that (It's BSD-licensed, so they COULD release source and have no reason not to, but they chose not to) has soured me on Samsung to the point where the GS2 might be my last Samsung device if they don't change their attitude. (I don't own a 7 Plus, but I have been giving garyd9 a lot of assistance with it - his experiences were the final evidence that Samsung's attitude towards platform developers is "**** off, go away, we've met our bare minimum legal requirements")
The Tab 7.7 has potential - 1.4 GHz Exynos, the first tablet with an AMOLED display - if it has an AR6000 wifi chipset avoid it though (see above regarding the 7 Plus).
You may want to wait to see what hits the market in the next few months - Asus ****ed up the Prime (locked bootloader, metal body that kills wifi/GPS performance), kind of like they made some stupid mistakes with the Transformer, but other quadcore tablets should follow soon. Honestly even a 10.1" dualcore Exynos with a fully open source kernel would make me drop my current 10.1 in a heartbeat - the Tegra2's media capabilities are pretty crappy.
I only have the HP touchpad with android. Planning to buy the ipad 3 when it's out because i don't have 3G with my touchpad.
Thanks fpr the replies. The xoom and Samsung were what I was thinking about at first. So thanks for the info. On tbat note have you modded your tabs quite a bit? Do the mods use samsung based roms? Can CM7/9 be installed at some point with them? Any other decent ones to look at. Not planning on spending too much, maybe in the 3-400 range unless somethong really gets my attention.

I wish I would have bought the Xoom instead. I have the Toshiba Thrive and development on that tablet is completely dead. But I enjoy the full SD card slot, full HDMI port and full size USB port.

Loving CM9 on my TouchPad. It may be "dead" in terms of sales and marketing, but it sold more units than any Android tablet to date. Don't know what the Fire will do to the numbers, but last data I saw showed the only tablet that sold more units was the iPad/iPad 2.
Its kinda funny that my TouchPad has a solid ICS ROM before my i777. Its not 100% complete, but it covers 95% of my use.
Like the i777, there is a large base of community support. With so many units out there there is a ton of support, and dev activity.

Cyanogen himself is working on that one.
I had an Ipad 2 and recently sold it for the same price I bought it for

Just picked up the Asus TFP on Tuesday. I really like it. Had to drive about an hour to find one. For those looking at Best Buy stores should really look at their stand alone Best Buy Mobile stores (usually in malls) as many already have it. The search on their site does not include the stand alone mobiles FYI. Reading the forums here I was really hesitant to upgrade to ICS but after 2-3hours of solid heavy use everything (except adding favorites on the XDA app) works great. Some have reported poor wifi signal but mine seems great so far.

Who here uses both a Tablet and the Note at home?

Just curious those of you that replaced their Android/iPad or no longer use it since they got the Note.
I am gonna get a Transformer Prime today but wandering if i will be overwhelmed with the Prime and Note. Or figuring if its necessary especially after the 650 i dropped on the Note lol.
I love my Note especially on the go. But its nice to have that extra real estate at home and of course more gadgets. But was debating $650 with the dock is expensive. But i currently have no laptop or netbook and the Prime seems.perfect for my needs.
I basically browse web, play nes and snes emulators. Email, root and Rom hacks. Obviously id take advantage of the Tegra 3 and game more.

the money issue, is not a big deal for me anymore, but i can see how that would make u want to wait or quesiton the want to get one. the Note can suffice for your needs if your strapped thats for sure.

Just about reaching a full day with my Note and I realized today I used my iPad about 1/4 as much as I typically would.
I found the following: 1) Note is always with me, so its more convenient than the iPad 2) I am typically referencing something else on my Note so its faster to continue using it for the next task. 3) Of course right now there is a newness factor to it but overall I still think I find it more convenient to grab than the iPad.
I will have to see what my behaviors are in the future but for now I don't think my iPad is going to get much use.

You might want to look into the PS Vita if you're looking to game on the fly...
IMO, the note can duplicate MUCH of the functionality of the TPrime. All you would need is the MHL adapter to connect to a bigger display (TV/LCD monitor), bluetooth input devices and you're good to go.
I currently have the (not counting computers/laptops) ipad 2, Acer A100 7" tablet, and recently purchased the Vita - specifically because I found smartphone/tablet games lacking in depth.

same , i use ipad at home, but for regular stuff like reading on train "kindle" i use the Note
I almost never use my GNote at home unless it is for phone calls. I use my macbook or if watching netflix my ipad. I mean the GNote screen is great but not when I have 13 and 10 inch screens at home...or a 24 inch desktop
I had an iPad 2 (now sold, maybe getting iPad 3 later) and hardly used it since I bought my Note. Use an iPhone 4s for on the go phone so Note pretty much acts like a mini tab.
Actually ive been reading great reviews on the Acer A200. Especially for the $350 price mark and it just got Android 4.0 ICS. Really pondering going with something like this.
Acer A200 10.1" $350
PS Vita Bundle $300
Also have a BB $30 gift card. So makes it actually $620 total.
Same price as if i got the Transformer Prime & the Dock for $650. Hmmmmm. Honestly Tegra 3 is awesome but i do most of my gaming on Xbox and would rather have a Vita for gaming and use the tablet for NES, SNES & N64 emulation.
Still rocking my Xoom with the Bugless Beast ICS ROM, PS Vita First Edition Bundle and my Note are my main electronic devices.

[Q] should I buy a samsung galaxy tab 10.1 ???

hi everyone
I was going to buy it asus transformer but I found a tab 10.1 16gb for 300 $ new with warranty
my problem is there is no expansion slot on tab 10.1 and keyboard is nothing like asus transformers keyboard also im moving up from ipad 1 I wanna know is the display better in resolution and color.
is it better than the transformer ?
should I buy the tab or no ?
tnx
sure why not?
Sure why not? I like mine!
I would. Why not? Its an awesome tablet with lots for roms to choose from.
Yes, get it. I just got one a few days ago for a similarly good price. You won't regret it. It is an amazing piece of hardware.
I have one, and honestly, I think you would be better off either
A) Buying the "New" iPad
B) Wait for the Galaxy Tab 11.6
$300 is a pretty good price for the Tab, amazing actually, but I have been disappointed owning this Tegra 2 Tab. It's sluggish on transitions, and laggy at times, MANY MANY force closes. People here my say different, but I would wait for that Exynos powered 11.6.
Also, the iPad 3 is a STUNNER. I used one for 2 days before having to give it back :'( and all I can say is wow. The usability is just awesome, although I do prefer some features you get an an Android tab.
Haven't seen a Transformer up close so I can't compare it but I'd put the GT 10.1 display between the iPad 2 and newer iPad. New iPad screen is just fantastic.
Comes down to personal choice really; for me $300 sounds like a great price and I'd drop that with little thought if I was in the market for a new tablet. For others $300 might be a significant amount to spend.
On the flip side, if you check the local used market and aren't seeing things cheaper it might be worth it to buy the tablet, use it for a bit, and then sell it used if you don't like it. I can't see the value of it dropping much lower than $300 with things like the Kindle Fire out there selling for $200.

I was in the same boat as you trying to decide. I even went against everything I believe in and decided to try the iPad and could only take it for 24 hrs and took it back. It was not for me and I wanted to like it so much, I thought I could have the best of both worlds, android and Apple since I have a S2 and original Galaxy Tab. But, I took it back and got the Tab 10.1 even though the Transformer Prime was calling my name, its a beautiful beast of a device and they support their tabs with great update support unlike Samsung, but I chose the Tab because I knew XDA would not let me down, so I bought it 2 days ago, and rooted it last night with some ice cream love.

^ I actually thought of the same thing, The only reason I chose the 10.1 over the Transformer (Not prime) was because they mentioned the transformer wasn't on the chart for getting the ICS update. However Transformer Prime does pike my interest, may add it to the collection over time. Sexy beast indeed. fapfapfapfpafafp
I am looking to change my original iPad, and thinking of the asus prime transformer, new iPad and tab 10.1. After using a galaxy S2 for six months I am really interested in the tab, however it looks a bit outclassed by the new iPad.
What would you guys recommend in my situation?
I got mine for free from Google through work. While I do like it, I would not have purchased one myself. I'd rather take the money and put it towards an ultra book. But it definitely does suffice for just web browsing, music, and as my alarm clock.
Problem is there is no such thing as ultra book, where I felt the 10.1 was at it's prime supremacy, there came the 11.6 and the Transformer Prime, FML.

there is no overkilling tablet .
pro ipad 3: best display and performance, many apps, ebooks, music etc.
contra ipad 3: apple..., expensive
pro transformer prime: best performance on an android tablet, good asus update politics
contra transformer prime: bad availability, expensive, no 3g yet
pro galaxy tab 10.1: good perfomance, stylish design like a well known apple product, open bootloader --> many custom roms, priceless
contra galaxy tab 10.1: bad update politics of samsung, haptics because of the missing gorilla glas aren't sooo good, accessoirs (hdmi, sd card, usb) only via dock connector
i think the galaxy tab 10.1 will be get an enormous speed increase with the upcoming ics firmwares from samsung (hardware acceleration is still missing, release maybe in may '12)
if you have the money take the quad cpu asus transformer prime otherwise the galaxy tab 10.1 will be a solid device for the next 1-2 years.
an 11.6 inch tablet isn't a rival to the ipad 3 i think. the ipad has the optimal size and weight, the galaxy tab 10.1 is the absolute maximum size for me. bigger sizes wouldn't be handy for the couch and a traveling with the tram or train. but that is my own opinion

499 for an iPad is not expensive, it is inline with competition. IMHO, Google and the companies really fudged up with Tablets. It is totally different with phones, you almost have to go Apple with the tablet and Android with phones. That's what I plan on doing.
I somewhat agree, tablet wise Apple would be nice, then again Apple has horrible tablet support, they're more focused on the phones.

Depends on what price your getting it for. I got a 32gb wifi one for £270 which is about $350 I think. If ics is really important and you need it NOW without rooting then it isn't for you, depending on how much you have to spend the tf201 might be better, the tf300 I heard is good but it's not available in the UK so I can't vouch for it. You could consider the tab 2 as well but in reality it probably slightly worse than the og tab sans ics!
Since your on xda I take it you care about the development aspect which probably means that the only real manufacturers you should consider would be Samsung, Asus, Archos and Motorola. Development on the acer, Toshiba, htc tabs etc are not nearly as active as others.

I think it all depends on what your real need/expectation. I had an ASUS Transformer Prime that was far superior in most ways to the Gtab, but did not hold onto the WiFi signal well and the promised GPS, as designed, did not function. Those were two very important factors for me and I replaced the Prime with the Galaxy Tab.
The tab is slower, no ICS (yet), poorer screen touch sensitivity, fingerprints pile up in a hurry, and the cameras are not nearly as nice. BUT, for the need I have, the Prime didn't cut it and I'm much happier with the Samsung.
Just wish ICS would get here. I'm on the AOKP releases but it sure would be nice to have a working camera. (I know, I have a smart phone for that)
Not sure where you live but, in the states the galaxy tab 2 10.1 is out and retails at $400 for the 16gb wifi only version. I am sure that deals can be found for a first generation gtab, but the 16gb wifi version starts at $450.
The new one adds an SD card slot and a universal ir remote. I think the screen is close to the same if the same and the processor is pretty close too. The speakers face forward on the new one. That does seem to make a difference. Of course, the gtab2 comes with ics. The gtab1 will eventually get ics but who knows when.
Asus does have the tf-300 out at $400. Specs on paper are better than the gtab2. Personally, I'd go with a gtab2 but that is because I watch movies on my tab. I believe the Asus does have stereo speakers but they are right next to one another. The Asus does blow away the gtab2 in benchmarks but for my uses I don't see a noticeable difference. IMHO the screens on the gtab's are nicer too.

When I was considering buying my gtab my shortlisted tabs for my pricepoint were:
Archos G9 101
Moto Xoom
Asus TF101
Samsung Gtab
Toshiba Thrive
I ignored the Archos because it looked crap, I ignored the xoom & transformer because they were too heavy, thick & bulky and I ignored the thrive because it was stuck in the legacy boards. That was my reasoning!

I just picked up a mint condition 16GB for $250 on Craigslist locally. I think, at that price point, it's still a very valid option if you're in the market.
Go for the tf300. Its a generation ahead.
Oh and it is out in the UK.

Looking for a tablet. 10.1 been out for 11 months now. Is it outdated? I'm looking at this tablet because I trust Samsung to deliver quality products and 10.1 has been the most popular tablet I've read about.
Screen size, and android version are the most important to me.
What do u guys think. Is there another tablet I should be looking at? And no, I'm not paying $800 for a iPad, etc lol
Thanks

I would not buy again, because of the unbelievable slowness of delivering updates by Samsung.

Nexus 10 or Note 10

I am the owner of a gnex, nex 7, and note 2. I am aware of the the huge difference in th screen resolution. But i can image the features with the s pen on a tablet must great. So i ask you... What would you do? Maybe i can get the apps working on the nexus after a little work. Thoughts?

I had s2, then gnex, then s3 & now a nexus 4. I had a note 10.1 WiFi +3g version (gt-n8000). My fiancé has a nexus 10. I thought I could get past the note's poor screen resolution, but in reality, I really couldn't. I looked at a nexus 4 screen & my fiancé's nexus 10 & then at my note & was pretty bothered by it all.
If you can get past the resolution, my next issue was software/updates. To be honest, having a nexus has spoiled me. I love vanilla android. I do not like manufacturer skins. I love knowing that even if my hardware is a bit out of date, I will still have the newest software... Not the case with the note. Again, these are minor issues that I hoped to not care about but learned that I did.
I have since sold my note in order to pay some deposits that are due for my upcoming wedding. I don't miss it. I have been tossing around picking up a used nexus 7 eventually, but over all the note 10.1 left me wanting more. I spent a nice chunk on it when it was first available & thought I would love it. Sold it for a nice bit of money, as well.
This turned out longer than i thought. Hope this helps.

Hi, sully112277, I am in the same boat as you, but without owning a previous android device. Here is a thread with helpful opinions, features, and a poll about the Nexus 10 and the GNote 10.1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2093177. Hope this helps, and hope you find the right device.
I bought the Note originally. I was moving from an iPad with the retina display. So the difference in resolution was just too much. So, I took it back and got the nexus 10. As much as I enjoyed the pen and related apps, the higher resolution was worth the trade off. I guess it really depends if you want the stylus. In my humble opinion, aside from the stylus, the Nexus is superior in every way.

Getting the latest android updates when released: Priceless
It's gonna make your device feel 'newer'for longer, also open source devices has more Dev support

LOL, The resolution on the 10.1 is not bad...at all. Compared to a retina display or the Nexus 10 display, it's no contest. However, it's not bad on the Note 10.1.
note 10.1 hands down. i choose that one over the nexus 10 just got it last week and i LOVE it! i can do soo many more things on the note than i ever could on the nexus. sometimes..screen's just not everything and mind you the screen display colours and contrast levels on the note 10.1 is very much satisfying!
What killed it for me was getting the Note 10.1 1st then the others. I buy them all and see what I like. Not all at once. I just tried the new Toshiba SE with the Tegra 1.6. Was not faster then my note but almost dead even on allot. I understand its a cheap model. It had awful blacklight bleed, the note had very rich colors. Getting my Win 8 to see it.. never happen.
Asus/Nexus 10 awesome high rez.. For me you take the high rez away whats left. If I wanted high rez I would buy the new Ipad that have more apps/games that support it. And then trying to get a Asus/Nexus 10 with NO blacklightbleed.. should not be that hard. 1st Samsung perfect screen.
Just try them dont just take a reviews word. So Note hands down. Nexus is awesome but just vanilla. Its the silly things I like.. split keyboard, change font look, the white menus etc. Things I am sure you can ADD to the others and some you have to root 1st.
Thanks guys... I love getting the updates first like everyone else but half the time they are buggy and unsupported for months. When i made the switch from my gnex to note i went from 4.2 to 4.1 but surprisingly i didnt miss it at all. The note 2 is an absolutely amazing phone. Never happier with an android purchase since I started all the way back to the t-mob G1. I always unlock and root so i can edit the ui as please if i go for the note 10.
So far i think thats where I am leaning but my decision is not final yet. Thanks for all your advice again and lets not forget... Both are great devices. I am sure i will be happy with my purchase as I always am.

Samsung wins all around wether you have a Note 2 and Note 10.1 or the N10. Samsung made them all lol. I agree the Note 2 is an amazing phone and was one of the reason I chose the N10 over the Note 10.1. I use the N10 for mostly play and Note 2 for productive things. If I need to view a documnet or pdf tho the N10 handles that with no problem. Anything that requires serious work I use my 3 screens connected to my desktop pc as it's best for serious productivity. In the end each person will choose what works best for them in a given situation. Even though the N10 has a very nice screen the 10.1 has a pretty nice one also, even if it's a lower resolution.
My favorite thing to do so far with the N10 is to play emulated games with the controller it's a pretty nice experience. The android games run very well also, so basically I have a pretty big portable gaming device. The PS vita is like $300 plus with no killer games and a lower game resolution. You can basically by a tablet of any size of choosing and turned into a gaming device and still have the abilites to surf the net, stream movies, play music and other apps. My son has a few handheld portables and I after I gave his mother my samsung epic and he saw the games he didn't even wanna play with the portables much.
I do miss not having the extra space a full blown laptop would have but with OTG cable I'm able to hook up my usb thumbdrives or my 1tb external hard drive. So it all works out in the end. Plus I have 50gb dropbox storage and I haven't even used the google drive yet. Plus with my note 2 if I ever need to grab something real quick I can hotspot if no Wifi and download the items. Most likely I will already have the big stuff on a flash drive with me.

Sorry, but hardcore gaming on Android sucks. There are no killer games. And PS Vita running at lower res doesn't matter, its actually good because it can concentrate more on textures, reflections, water effects and so on.

I hardcore game on my pc I built. I never said the word hardcore when describing gaming on the nexus 10. And the Vita still doesn't have a game that's worth the money they are asking for and that's the point I was making in comparison to buying a tablet for all the features they provide.
