Hi all ,
I met wifi problem with a dozen roms ... i flashed and wipe ... firstly I think is my phone hardware problem , but after I changed the channel of my rounter to channel 1 ... the problem solved...(so far)... I would like to ask if any razr owner have the same problem also ?
Hi mate,
I'm experiencing some WiFi problems with my RAZR and the home Linksys router as well. Haven't tried your solution with Channel 1 yet, though, but I'm gonna go and switch to it right away and report the outcome.
EDIT: Weird... Now my WiFi connection is almost lightning fast and no data losses. Well, thanks, hiha!
Speaking of Linksys routers... a While ago I changed my Linksys WAG120N router from G mode to N mode. Strangely, my RAZR started to reboot randomly. I switched the router back to G, and everything got back to normal.
Funny things are happening, it appears.
My Linksys E4200 is currently in Mixed mode and set on Channel 1 - this appears to be the optimal configuration for work with RAZR.
I also have problems with wifi. Really bad signal at home, like 5 meter away it drops to zero
I tried channel one, still same problem.
I noticed when u hold the phone and cover the right side wifi drops and dies constantly. Just like the iphone 4

I'm on my 2nd Razr Maxx (first one had a cracked screen), and neither has/had any issues with my Wifi network. My router is on the 2nd floor (FiOS Actiontec, mixed mode G N). I get a good signal throughout my entire house, and have never had a single problem.
I hope ics fixs the wifi signal, its horrible. I am now on 2.3.6

wifi issue
My wife has a droid 3 and I have a razr. I am running netgear routers
with dd-wrt open source software. Both of these phones were unusable
when we first tried them. I logged into my router and set the qos settings
to enable and both phones now work flawlessly. It seems that the wifi chip
in these phones cycles on and off to conserve power. Without the proper handshaking between the two devices ,when the phone chip shuts down the
buffer overflows in the router and it disconnects because the data
is no longer valid. By eneabling the quality of service setting the router and
the wifi chip use a protocol to prevent this buffer overfllow.
If you search the microsoft knowledge base you will find that vista and win 7
had to have a software upgrade to address this same problem when they
first came out.
Some modems have the qos disabled by default to maintain a higher
throughput.
If you go to the dd-wrt wiki and search for qos it goes into more detail
as to how this works.
Wifi issues here too.
Forget low connectivity, my phone blatantly refuses to even connect to a connection secured with 802. 1x EAP. It is embarrassing to say the least.
I have issues where mobile connection and wifi go blue to grey after a while and no longer work. Possibly what the op refers to.
Also, similar to the iphone4 problems, holding my phone reduces both wifi and mobile data signals drastically. Is this a general device issue?
I am wondering if its something the motorola ics release might address.

I'm having issues with connection to wifi, anyone else??
wifi connects & then disconnects before Google.com even loads....then it reconnects again...and then goes around in a circle. Sometimes it last a little longer, but only long enough to keep my hopes up.
as soon as i got my RAZR i rooted it asap ....so now, I am unsure if its the handset, root, MotoBlur or something else?
ive checked and can't find any threads about this. anyone else have any issues or suggestions ....I will be very greatful for any response .. thanks
I 2nd That
You're not alone. I also noticed an issue with WiFi when using it for the first time. My RAZR is not rooted, so it looks like that isn't the issue. It contantly drops its WiFi connection, and can sometimes go several minutes before reconnecting. As far as I can tell at this point, signal strength does not seem to be a factor. I hope this will be corrected in the next patch.
I have also noticed that it randomly drop its LTE connection and reverts to 3G, even though it had great LTE signal... but this happened a lot with my Thunderbolt too, so I doubt its a device issue...
I'm running wpa-personal at home with no issues. What wireless security have you had issues with?

You could kill your encryption for a bit to rule it out as an issue.

Not a bad idea, I will try that later today. Something must be up though, as my Thunderbolt worked just fine on that AP on 11/10. Thanks.
check bluetooth
I noticed wifi issues as well connections would drop or jump from AP to AP, but wouldn't connect. It seemed to be when I had bluetooth enabled at the same time. My connection speeds would drop (if it worked) to ~2Mbps, instead of the usual 13-14 I was getting. Once I turned BT off, no problems, no disconnects. Bluetooth did not effect my 4G/LTE, which is very strong where I live.
AP's:
Buffalo WHR-54GS
Cisco/Linksys E1000 v1
both running DD-WRT, WPA2
hmm... So far so good with Bluetooth off. Looks like we're on to something, thanks for the suggestion.
I started experiencing the wifi dropouts after installing Skype. I downloaded the non Verizon version of Skype and what I noticed is that when I open the app, it kills the wifi connection. It doesn't turn it off, it just appears to disable the wifi connection. It appears that I have to log off Skype and reboot and the wifi works fine.
Do you guys have Skype installed also?

same issue bad wifi connection ,,,, where is MOTO ??? please wake up and correct this fault, i remember the same issue was with SGS2 but it was solved after patch by samsung....
this issue is really teasing me alot,,
I found (on another forum) potential cause:
Turns out the milestone doesn't play well with newer models of wireless routers that use AEP authentication. Apparantly the milestone will sometimes send some inappropriate data to the router, which AEP authentication feels is a nono and so boots the device off the network until you manually reconnect. That's my understanding anyway.
The fix for me was to change my router encryption from WPA2-PSK to WPA-PSK (I have a siemens router supplied by Orcon). Since I've made the changes a few days ago I haven't had a single drop out. Hope it works for you too.

I can confirm that I'm experiencing wifi drops only with WPA2 encryption on AP.
My Razr (XT910) works well at 5 GHz. When I tried to switch to 2.4 GHz frequency I had constant drop. Could be interference i guess! Once i switched back to 5 GHz haven't had a problem. Don't think Droid Razr (XT912) supports 5 GHz frequency though!
I have major WiFi problems. It can only detect my home router if it is in the same room or the room above it!
My three year old HTC Hero can see 7 networks up and down the street.
It's so bad that I could not recommend this phone to anyone who (like me) needs to be able to connect to WiFi on the move.
I have no idea who such a major fault in this otherwise fantastic phone could have been allowed.
I still have a few days left to return it but am not sure what the alternative would be. I had a Sensation XE that was great but like a brick compared to the Razr!
I hope there is a fix on the way.

I wish I had your problem!
Had problem connecting my Droid Razr Maxx to my router at home (Netgear wndr 3300) but it connect almost everwhere else. After much help, and great service from Verizon and Motorola, including a next day replacement from Motorola, I found the problem was probably a conflict with the IP addresses i was using on the router. There is a conflice with base address 192.168.20.1 if it is used. You get connected, get an IP address but do not get any data. Changed to 192.168.0.1, and it worked fine. Have 192.168.16.1 at office it also works fine. Seem sot be conflict with LTE IF address. Love the Droid Razr Maxx. wonderful battery life.
From my experience, I have found that power cycling the router will in most cases resolve connectivity issues like this. But obviously that only works if you have access to said router.
On a side note, how exactly did you successfully perform a battery pull if you say you own a Maxx
I believe it has to do with what frequency range the router is using. I have a very nice VPN Linksys at my parents that I let them keep and it has the same issue with razr, thunderbolt, and Gnex so far. However my moms incredible 2 connects just fine.
I believe if you change it to a more common (off the top of my head, 90mhz) range everything should be just fine. I remember reading this somewhere and it made since, but my expertise is not in networking.
I haven't actually tried the fix because well, its my parents house and they have unlimited data and barely use 0.4 gb a month so no real need.
Hope this helps
Edit: I run a net gear at my house with 9-12 devices on it at a time and there are no issues connecting.

When I had this problem I set up the router as no security, did not correct problem. Set up as 2,4 only no security, did not work. set up as all individual channels, did not work. Obviously powered down router and power up with each new setting, Still did not work. Even rebooted phone each time. Only thing that worked was changing base address. Did not remove battery.
Only question I have is if i run into a wifi network with this base address and I can't change it, I'm out of network connectivity.

WIFI problem
OKay... but how do you fix the wifi problem if you can't access the router? My droid razr maxx is having wifi connectivity problems with the wifi at my school. The phone will connect with the wifi for about 3 minutes, disconnect, and reconnect in an endless cycle. This sucks because I just got the phone a few days ago. I had a droid charge and never had a wifi issue like this. Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated. If I can't get this resolved within a few days I'm going to exchange my phone i hope that something will change.
wifi issues
I have 2 wifi routers at home. My RAZR could only connect to my 802.11N router and not my 802.11G router. It sees but when I try to log on to it, it would not connect.
So, it all depends on the router. It will see the signals from the routers but if it is not the N router, it will not connect.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for this! I had two friends whose LTE phones could connect to my home wifi but did not have Internet access. My Linksys WRT54GL running Tomato 1.28 firmware was configured to the 192.168.20.xxx network. Just changed the subnet to .15 and their phones now work on my wifi.
Seems silly to me that LTE network would have a hard coded conflict with a class C private network address. They should have used a much less commonly seen class A network if it is necessary. Regardless, thanks for the solution!
why do all you guys have your subnets set so high? standard is 192.168.1.1 on linksys, the highest I've ever had to move it to was 192.168.3.1 due to neighboring linksys routers.
Side note, I don't know if this holds true for all android devices, and may be more hassle then its worth but I've read on the samsung galaxy player pages of someone with wifi issues to his belkin router and he solved it by setting a static IP for his player, maybe you could try that with your razr and see if it helps.
@bryan how is tomato? I use DD-wrt on ALL the routers I can flash it to and is why I haven't paid to have internet at my house in like a year and a half (weekend rental house across the street).

I also want to pass on my thanks STEVEAPSEY, The only way to get my Droid Razor to work on my (Belkin) WiFi was setting up a public connection. I was leaning towards protocol settings but did not want to disrupt (and redo) all the other devices hooked to to it. In hind site public does give out a different IP! Well done!

Update, I've had my phone replaced by Samsung tech in Plano TX, that doesn't help, but updating my router to the Apr 2012 eko dd-wrt did make some differences. Also the ota update from att has a new modem apk and that also chg'd the phone functionality. One thing that I have seen is that the phone reports the wifi network signal as being lower than before, and the output signal is slightly higher. I find that I have to occasionally turn the wifi on and off to reset it.
Short list of fixes and things to try:
1 update routers firmware
2 no dual encryption
3 some routers with 300 or greater Mbps settings need to be toned down to 150 or less
4 phone likes mixed protocol network over N only.
5 turn off phone power save
6 un check the carrier hot spot notify.
7 un check open wifi notify
8 pick a single band 2.4 or 5ghz. Note that updates with this can temporarily lock in to that frequency and not allow changes.
9. Dial *#0011# menu button, wifi and turn off the power save setting. This has to be done on every boot, and may cancel the display timeout.
10 On 5Ghz don't use DFS channels
Incorrect since people who have installed some roms and cm 10 are saying that they don't have any problems: I am almost certain now, that the wifi disconnect/connect issue is hardware incompatibility.
I have Linksys wrt-610 v2 -- which has problems
I have Netgear WHR3500L which has problems
I have Linksys wrt-54GL v1.1 which has NO problems (had to dig this out of storage)
If YOURS works or YOURS doesn't work pls visit this thread and post your info so we can find out what routers do and don't: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1752356
-------
I've posted this and then the mod's moved the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722363&goto=newpost to the Sprint version of the forum.
Here's a recap since the guy has a sprint phone and won't recognize my issue there.
Here's the issue I've been having. I'm in a very active 2.4 wifi neighborhood. Even though I had the advanced wifi set to 'Always on' it kept disconnecting (and instantly reconnecting) to my network. The phone is scanning the neighborhood almost every 15 seconds. It's simply WPA-2 with just AES (and I'm not changing to TKIP)
This is a problem for me as I use "Unlock wtih WiFi" to keep from having to enter my PIN when I'm at work/home and "Home Sweet Home" which uploads any photos I have taken to my server when it detects the home wifi network (and deletes them from my phone after 3 months).
Anyway, I was just on the chat with Samsung and in the end we did this,
1. disable the ATT WIFI auto login function (seems there's something similar on the Sprint phones that's a issue).
2. soft reboot the phone (turn off, pull battery, count to 30, boot up)
However this suggested solution doesn't work.
The wifi isn't staying connected though the breaks are very very temporary, but long enough for those apps to kick in.
Update additional things tried:
3. Turned off WiFi power save in the *#0011# service menu
4. Turned off Open WiFi notifications, ATT Autologon.
5. Selected a single wifi band (5Ghz) where there is ONLY one network, mine
FWIW, I like that it connects to my 5Ghz wifi at 150 mbps, the speed is great.
6. I've disabled the Unlock with WiFi and it still occurred.
Here's a video of the issue showing the phone:
http://youtu.be/FBo3NFdcMhs
Here's a videoe of the issue showing the router: http://youtu.be/rRALDc8LZOk
and for those technically inclined here's a dump of the logs which clearly shows the drop and reconnect: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/38266113/SendLog.txt
FWIW. I just got off a 45 minute call with Samsung Help Support, went to level 3 support in Texas. This is newly documented, I've referenced this forum for additional reports of the dual encryption and the wifi connnect/reconnect issue I'm having. My ticket # 2113584507 (just for disconnect/reconnect) which you can mention at level 1 as having the same disconnect/connect issue. I specifically asked if I could post the ticket # so anyone could reference it at Level 1, but they will still take your own experience down.
Level 3 said they expect that they will be getting calls today since it's the first full day after the release. So if you want it fixed, CALL SAMSUNG, they're collecting bug reports.
I was having this same problem yesterday afternoon at work. Last night I set my radio to 5GHz only and today it hasn't happened once.
I am so glad I found this as it was driving me nuts on my new Sprint SIII. I think it's bouncing back and forth when both are available as at work, it stayed solid where we only have 2.4.
Thanks!!!!!!
I had that problem the entire time I had my Captivate. Very short disconnects. Only reason I knew was because of a task I was using in Tasker having problems, and I set a method to track connection.
I fixed the problem with setting a static IP address. I used WiFi Static.
I'm using it on the S3 just to be sure.
Had the same problem. However I set it to connect to 2.4ghz and it stopped doing that. If I put it on auto it will do it. If I leave at 5 it won't connect.
I do however think I might have a wifi dead spot. I notice if I hold it a certain way I lose a signal or two on wifi. Or the speed of wifi decreases. Anyone else having the same issue? It might just be me

I've experienced the same wifi drop issues so glad it is being investigated. Thanks to OP for diligence in tracking this down!

although I've gone to level 3, I need you and everyone else experiencing this to report it so that its corrected. Granted they are certainly going to visit the wifi code for the dual encryption issue and stability with Auto frequency, but fixing this could be done at the same time.
FWIW, since I have two routers and 3 networks, one of them is simply a pure G up to 54mbps default firmware setup (since it's the FCC's) and connecting to that greatly reduces but not entirely eliminates the problem (even in the same room). It's much worse on my "N" only networks. And I have tried static IP that also doesn't fix the problem. This is some sort of software issue in the renegotiable speed setting or timing settings or power savings. Off course it certainly could be some badly (or purposely) behaved app software too.

Interesting. Given that I don't seem to be having any issues, it seems it is not a problem for everyone.

More likely to be a timing issue or protocol issues as the phone scans and tests various networks on different bands and protocols. Many people have n routers that do mixed networks, b, g and n, and they just may not know what they are doing all the time as the phone renegotiates with the router. I have a wrt 610v2 doing only n on 2.4/5ghz and on the the Netgear N300 it drops less doing 2.4 g and at my friends who have a wrt54g and it dropped even less often. The app that I use to enable my lock screen pin makes this more noticeable.

FWIW, I decided to followup on the ticket. Samsung level 1 (not that it matters) says they have never heard of this problem. Level 2 was better, and we in essence setup a new ticket with the videos already linked to it. I offered a sendlog, I offered to install a test app if they have one. I already beta test for a number of app developers as well as some major hardware OEMs.
PLEASE, everyone, call samsung support directly and register a ticket that this is a problem so that they have the information first hand and not via ATT or Sprint, etc which they might ignore.

I just called. They said they would note it 'on my account'. They indicated it would be a Google issue, not Samsung. They only do the hardware (and of course, it can't be a hardware issue, can it? )
I was thumbing through the phone logs from a boot to connection and reconnect. I have to say Chrome has a lot of errors thrown particularly in the bookmark sync. Also it appears that every time the wifi is initially started it checks for authentication for tethering on both the wifi and BT. It almost looks like the phone thinks that the wifi ap is off and restarts wifi scanning.

Yea, I realize I'm the odd ball still running an old wrt54g for his home router but its all I need.
My problem though is that my newly acquired d-inc 4g can't connect to the WiFi at any faster than 12mbps with excellent signal. Now my girlfriends iPhone 4 sitting right near it gets the full 54mbps connection speed. And to further annoy me, my older rooted d-inc 2 gets 54mbps out the front door, no issues,
And to add to the slow speed, when the phone goes to sleep there is no WiFi data after it wakes back up. It remains connected, I just can't use it oddly.
Anyone willing and able to help a guy out?

have you ever updated the firmware on your router?
Yea, I'm running dd-wrt v24-sp2 mini build 14896. No linksys bull stability issues here.
WiFi is running in mixed mode, channel 11, WPA2-PSK AES (TKIP sucks), with slightly boosted tx power (75mW vs default 71mW), no afterburner but frame burst is on with a long preamble

This was solved. It was the routers fault. Apparently due to the recent storms at the time boucing the power, the flash on the router got into a bad state and required a 30-30-30 reset and has been happily working since then.
I constantly drop wifi in my house. Is this just my phone or is it an issue? Tried everything and won't stay connected. Network just disappears and then connects 10-15 second later.
I have some issues also. Just bad firmware on LG side
I'd check your wifi modem, I use my LG V10 on numerous different modems, and have no problems with it. It connects to my home, alone with a few places I go to, and even when tje signal is extremely weak. So I'm not seeing the same thing
Also have issues on Wi-Fi
2.4 seems to hold connection longer than 5ghz. Luckily I have unlimited data. I have almost never used WiFi on this device due to this. The problem is both on my Asus RT router and my brother's Netgear Nighthawk router. Both with latest firmware. I'd like to have the option of a stable WiFi connection though.

I've read a few posts that suggest being sure the MAC address of your phone is registered with your router. I've come from 2 galaxies and I do feel the LG is a little more sensitive to a low or fluctuating signal. I "feel" it, but everytime I actually compare, it doesn't seem to be the case
Thanks for the advice

Tried the registering the Mac on both bands. Tried several device resets. Disconnected all other attached devices from the router. Had much hope for this. But no bueno. Still dropped connection after less the three minutes. Disabled 4G and the other nanny settings for WiFi on the V10. Just hoping for the much needed firmware update (s) for this sweet phone.
Again, thank you for the advice and your time.
