Last night, I installed TW 4.5/TW Manager. I did a ClockworkMod backup first. I decided to restore it.
However, after restoration, the phone is in a factory state. Save for my lock pattern, which it remembered, the phone is in first-run setup mode, all my home screen layouts are gone, all my apps are not in the aop drawer except those the G2 ships with. Contents of the virtual SD card like photos are still there.
I tried restoring my only other CWM backup (a November backup that previously *restored ok* to undo a MIUI test, for example), but this, too, now boots in to the same state.
What has gone wrong here?
And is there any way of getting back the system that I assume/d is/was in the CWM backup files?
If I can't guarantee I can restore a CWM backup, it makes the world a very scary place to be.
Did you wipe before restoring? Sound to me you did not.
1. Full wipe
2. Restore again.
If that does not work, wipe again and use advanced restore.
Don't use rom manager but do everything manually from the recovery.
Wipe what?
You mean, choose Wipe Data and/or Wipe Cache?

Wiped data, Wiped cache, Restored backup - still doesn't retrieve the actual backup.
Now wiped again. In Advanced Restore, what should I do?

This doesn't work either.
I had the same trouble early last month; even after a restore it was pretty much factory settings and I had to put everything back myself.
It was very irritating as I'd taken the precaution of making a backup but it still didn't work. I've pretty much recovered everything I needed to since then, though.
What excactly did you do prior to the restoring? Did you flash a new rom? If yes, what was your previous rom? Or is TW4.5 an app of some kind?

I did this... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365605
That is...
Installed TouchWiz 4.5, a modified TouchWiz launcher (left it alongside TouchWiz, set no default - home button press asked for confirmation of home screen each time)
TW4.5 comes with the TW4Manager app for controlling settings.
I downloaded the Suava theme for use with TW 4.5.
Before any of that, I made a CWM backup. Then I did the above. Now the backup (and even a backup which restored perfectly a month ago) will not restore to anything but factory new state.
And you are not getting an error message of any kind? How long does it take to restore? What is the size of the backup?

The last thing I can think of is flashing an old stock rom and then rooting it with CF-Root. Then you have an older version of CWM.
A stock rom like KE2. Then try to restore.
If that does not work find a rom which has the latest CMW. Version 5 I believe. Then try restoring it.

Hmm, are you talking about kernel?
If I'm correctly reading my rough notes from my rooting and tinkering, then my original kernel was KF3, I rooted in mid-October with an insecure equivalent (KF3) (CF-Root method), but quickly upgraded through Kies... I now have kernel XWKI4 (baseband XXKI1, build KI4).
So I moved from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4.
BUT - the backup and restore I did with CWM under the current system as recently as two weeks ago in November worked fine.

So, you're saying there - you think a newer version of CWM might have eliminated a bug or something?
Might I find any FURTHER problems by changing the ROM and trying to restore?
Thanks for your help.
ClockworkMod - merry effing Christmas.
I really don't know. But I think it's worth the effort determining of your CWM is still functioning properly.
You can also try just flashing the KI4 CF-root kernel, then boot in recovery and then try to restore.
Make sure you have important stuff backuped of course
If you can boot to working phone backup data and copy clockwork mod folder to PC .
Then try posted below . boots to working phone root it with CWM and root copy clockwork folder back then try restore nandroid backup .#
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .

JJElgan, thanks,
So let me clarify what you're essentially suggesting...
Store my ClockworkMod safely on the PC
Wipe cache, data, system and SD card in Recovery Mode
"Install correct firmware"
Then put the backup file back and try restoring
What do you mean by "correct firmware"?...
I currently have Baseband XXKI1, Kernel XWKI4, Build XWKI4. That is the firmware with which I made the backup. (I guess that's KI4?)
But the firmware I originally rooted with CWM was PDA: KF3, PHONE: KE7, CSC: KD1 (XEU). (I guess that was KF3?)
What's the aim of this here and what's the source of the info?
Thanks very much.

Ever?
How about after?
And how about in the advice the previous correspondent gave, to reinstall kernel/firmware?
Rite,
İ am new to ROMs and everything. İ downloaded FOXHOUND Sniper Wolf ROM. İ followed the instructions which are:
1. Boot into recovery mode
2. Format System / Factory Data Wipe
3. Wipe cache and also wipe dalvik cache
4. Install the zip file and you will get the CWM install completed message.
5. Select Reboot Now and let the phone boot up to an Android setup screen.
6. Setup the phone as requested
7. Reboot the phone into recovery mode again and wipe cache and dalvik cache again
8. Reboot phone and everything should be working...
On stage 5. my phone loads up to the android setup screen but a message comes up saying:
'Select and application for the USB device' and below that it says 'no application can perform this action' and another message below that ' %1$s is not responding. would you like to close it'.
İf İ try to do anything the phone just reboots and the same process keeps repeating. İ have searched but cannot find anything relating to this problem. Please help me....
reflash the ROM,

Any other solutions?
save your important data from sd card(internal card) , copy to computer , make a hard reset(erase all internal data) flash a new rom via odin , root with cf-root via odin(i recomand xila 2 witch cf-root that u find here on xda,and xila2 room too, and then download the rom you wanted put it on your sd card,go to recovery wipe cache dalvik, wipe data factory reset, install the rom u want. after u may pasye the data you saved before on computer. good luck. for example u can save all your data witch titanium backup.
Download again the rom
Make a full wipe, factory reset,
Reinstall the rom
If that doesn't work
Install via Odin a CF root rom, and use other rom, like cm9

if you dont want to make that steps you may do this : go to recovery, mounts&storage, format cache , format data , format system , them reflash your rom from recovery , after this wipe cache wipe dalvik wipe data , and the fix permissions.

well do what i say in the first post, install that rom via odin, root, and after download the rom u want in your phone and flash it.
flash this http://hotfile.com/dl/146503450/02dbdd0/I9100XILA2_I9100OXIKK1_ITV.zip.html then flash this http://download.chainfire.eu/137/CF-Root/SGS2/CF-Root-SGS2_XI_ITV_LA2-v5.0-CWM5.zip and then install the rom u want...remember to do a hard reset..and all i posted in first post.
just found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1449771
İs it ok if İ follow the instructions?
Is it possible? I currently do not have an SD card and was curious in trying a Rom.
Also I am backing up my phone with Titanium Backup, but where is that backup saved? Should I move the backup to my PC? If so how?
Yes.
On internal card where else could it be. See in app settings or use a file explorer.
Flashing process doesn't touch internal card but it's safer to have an external card in case of bug.
But do not put rom on sd card and then wipe sd card .

Boot to download mode flash stock/saved rom via Odin .

You did the only thing that you shouldn't have done. I've never used super wipe, totally unnecessary to flash a Rom. Classic wipe data/cache/dalvick is enough.
Use Odin to flash again a Rom and download again the room.

However, I rooted my phone with autoroot which apparently doesn't come with CWM? The rom instructions of Android Rev. tell me to use superwipe which the above user said NOT to do? So then what instructions do I follow?
sometimes it doesn't trigger restart to recovery. you just jave to restart the phone into recovery to have it install cwm properly
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
i myself am an AHRD user.first im confused as to how you were able to install superwipe without CWM recovery.so im assuming you might actually have it and what you mean by CWM is the app itself.now since you already wiped your phone, only way for you to get it working again is EITHER to restore your NANDROID if you made one before attempting flash OR flash stock ROM,root it and then try to flash ARHD again without using superwipe.instead go to cwm recovery(up volume+power+home) and do "wipe cache", "wipe data/factory reset" then advanced>wipe dalvik.
Flashing without SD card
Are there instructions on flashing customs roms with just Odin. I don't have an SD card. Phone is I9305 rooted and with latest CWM Touch
Thanks
Hey guys.
Basically I put on CM10.1 and then MIUI, but I read that when you upgrade to CM10.1 your files go into a folder called 0?
Well basically I wanna go back to standard by doing a restore, but I go onto CWM and it says after I click "restore" - "no files found"
So where have my restore files gone?
Or how can I get it back to standard? Will I be able to do it on mobile ODIN at all?
Thanks in advance.
Oli
If it helps guys
I have gone through file explorer
0\clockwordmod\backup\ has my restore in it, just how can I restore it in CWM?

This is most likely because you have just flashed 4.1.2 without wiping old rom data. Its advised on just about every single rom thread to wipe before flash. If you dont want to lose apps/appdata then use Titanium Backup Pro.

1) Put ur phone into dwnld mode and flash a stock ICS 4.0.3 firmware using ODIN to make ur phone up and running.
2) after that root ur phone by flashing the tar file of Siyah kernel v5.0.1 vide ODIN.
3) then reboot to siyah kernel recovery and wipe Data/factory reset and the wipe cache partition.
4)Dwnld the stock JB firmware from that link u provided and flash the same using ODIN
that way u will have a clean install of stock JB on ur phone
but if by dalal recovery without installing the 4.0.3 and do the wipe, and then install the 4.1.2 is not good?

He has no need to do what you said and install rom twice. All he needs to do is flash kernel like Siyah v6 beta4, reboot into download mode, wipe data and then flash his stock rom via download. No need to install 4.0.3 first its just waste of time.
and where can I download the file of Siyah kernel v5.0.1?you say the kernel?
I installed the 4.1.2 doing the wipe, and everything went ok.
so every time I install a new firmware should I do the wipe right?
and then I do not have siyah kernel but everything went well from recovery
