Hello, I have a little problem there. I'm a neewbie Hydrogen ROM and TouchPal swype app user and I can't change SMS alphabet to GSM one. It's probably possible in default rom but I can't find the option in this one. Any help? TIA
i have a similar problem.
i found this thread and hopefully it will help us
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290466
i used go sms long time ago, but got used to miui stock. but i'll give it a try one more time as i really like using dictionary, but i hate the limitations of characters in unicode.
Yeah, I've found this one a while ago, but then it would require me to change the theme since I'd have to install the core of GO apps, wouldn't it?
what do you mean by the core of GO apps? if the Go launcher - then no,
if you meant their app itself, probably yes. but the good news is, there is a miui theme, which looks really nice.
on the other hand i wasn't able to make this work, but i guess i'm doing something wrong.
god. all i want is to use the dictionary, and then have in somehow converted to ascii (so no silly characters) ;p there must be a way...
Seems you're right, apparently installation of Go launcher is not required.
I wonder whether it's possible to replace Go sms pro icon with the theme's default one?

Hi guys!
So still learning my tablet to know and at the moment I have managed to make different wallpapers for each screen and downloaded some funny games.
So now I'm hungry for new experince! (Can you even say this in english? )
All the time people are talking about rooting their devices, is it the same thing when you jailbreak an iPhone? And when you do it, what does it to your device?
I'm really carefull about doing anything stupid since I'm from Europe and bought my Galaxy 10.1 in US.
Then people are talking about asus widgets and they have to push them to certain folders. I'm like
Something i'm really curious about, how do I get some new icons for my stuff? I would like to change some of them, but where do I get them? I have the Desktop Visualizer but need the icons.
What is honeycumb? Touchwiz is the interface we use navigate within our tablet, right?
I really want to learn this stuff, but when I read about it, i'm lost from the start. Everything I can tell me, so I can understand you guys in the forum would really be appreciated!
So, I'm by no means any techie who dares to compare myself to any of the geniuses in here.
But I can help you out a little bit..!
Rooting is nothing more than giving yourself full control over your tablet. When you're NOT rootet, certain aspects of controlling the tab is "locked", so to speak. And that goes for the apps, you install to. Certain files can not be changed, over-written, deleted or even just "watched", if you're not rooted. It's kinda like giving admin-rights on a PC..
Honeycomb is nothing more than the name of the Android-version for tablets, and Touchwiz is the interface and framework Samsung uses for all its Android-product - a way to differ from the other android-products. This tab was first sold without Touchwiz in some parts of the world (running barebone Honeycomb) and then got a touchwiz-update later on. Many of Samsungs own apps will not work on even Samsung-devices, if they do not have TW installed, as they're based on TW-framework.
Pushing something to a given directory basically means copying/moving it to that directory. However, as these directories are mostly "locked" folders, you will need to be have rooted your tab to do this. The "pushing"-term comes from using ADB, where you use a command that says to push the given file to the given directory. Most times off, though, you can do this with a simple file manager (with root-rights ) on your tab.
The only way I know to get new icons is to either
a) Use another Launcher or
b) flash a custom rom with other icons.
However, I'm sure there are other way to do this, that I'm not aware of myself
Hope this helps a bit. Tried not to make it too long and confusing, but I'm not so sure that went too well
Launchers like ADW EX allow you to download "theme" packs, which usually contain a lot of different and new icons.
How did you get a different wallpaper on each screen? Edit: Multipicture Live Wallpaper lets you do this.

Ok, that I get. Also what I thought, so almost the same thing jailbreaking and iPhone, but people with the galaxy have many more options afterwards.

If I'm not tottaly wrong we are using Android 3.2 / 3.1 and that is what we call Honeycomb? Simply the name of the Android version. And as I thought, Touchwiz is the interface. I read somewhere it was sold without Touchwiz, but what difference does Touchwiz make? As I wrote, I bought in the US but I have no idea whether I had touchwiz or not. There came some new things after the update, "Indstillinger (Its on danish, dont know the word in english, but maybe "options"?) was completely change from black to white.

Ok, so when people are talking about pushing something, that probably 'cause they have rooted their device? Not when I simply move a picture from one place to another?

Another launcher, you mean another thing then Touchwiz?
Flash a custom rom? I'm lost again
That helped a lot! If you can explain me what "flash a custom rom" means, and simply "flash" and "rom".
Thank you !!

A Launcher is basically the the desktop of your tablet/phone. It is what displays the shortcuts, application list, widgets etc. that you are using. It is used to 'launch' all other applications on your device. So if you don't like the default launcher on your phone or Tablet, you can use one from the marketplace. there are lots of different options but so far I only know for sure that ADW EX supports honeycomb (Android 3.x)
If you have ADW EX, you can download ADW Themes from the market, and those will change up the appearance of your device, including icons.
Hello... Im on the search for a 3d or scrollable or animated sms widget. to give you an idea of what im looking for look at the one on SPB or some of the ones on HTC like rosie6 sms. so far all the ones i find are just a single screen or are part of something else. I want to be able to use it on whatever im runing on my phone... I have a Droid 3 and rooted.
GO SMS has an sms widget that is fairly customizable. Unfortunately, to use it, you'll hafta install and run GO Launcher. Not sure if thats an option for you or not, but still, something to look into, it might fit for you...

That one of the ones I was talking about that you have to use it with Go launcher. Im looking for an actual Widget I can use on anything...
Is it me or has the development slowed down to a crawl. Not many new launchers or other utilities to customize the phones and anything you do find isnt customizable at all and all the new phones are being locked down more and more so its harder to do things with them.

I feel you to an extent. I mean i'm no where near a dev, but i would think with ICS coming out and so many new devices, they've shifted their developing skills else where for the time being? That's the nature of being a developer I guess, you always need to be on top of and tweaking the next big thing to keep the hacking community happy. Not sure if this is the case or not, just my $0.02
try launcher pro plus, fast and has scrollable widgets ,not 3d though
Android pro widgets include a scrolable message widget too.
go sms widget
Go sms widget does not require go launcher
Nice. Its working on it's own. It doesn't even require GO SMS Pro to work.
So far I love the phone. This is the only phone I've had in a long time where I haven't wanted to load a custom rom the day I got it. There's just one thing I don't know if there's an option for, and something else I'd like to change that I hope it easy being rooted.
1. Is there a way to make the vibrate patterns apply to text messages? So far they only seem to apply to incoming calls.
2. The little dots on the bottom that show what page I'm on. Can I get rid of those or move them to the top of the screen?
ok, there's a 3rd I guess. The green phone icon, is there an EASY way to change that? Not thrilled about a couple others either like the contacts one. Don't know if there's a simple way to go in and swap out the image file for a different one or not. On my Galaxy tablet I was able to go in and create custom icons on the computer and use a program on the tab to select what program I wanted it to open, but that was a long time ago and I forgot how to do it, or what programs I used. If that's what it comes down too though, guess that's what I'll have to do. Just wanted to know if there was an easier way. I don't mind the icons themselves, just the colors. Not a fan of green or orange. Blue would be nice.
Thanks in advance for any help on these. Besides this stuff, absolutely LOVE the phone...
hope this helps...
1. I don't see any place in the touchwiz messaging app's settings to customize the vibrate pattern for texts... some possible solutions would be a custom ROM with the stock google messaging app rather than the touchwiz app, or somewhat less extreme would be to install a 3rd party texting client from the play store and see if that setting is present in that app.
2. I'm not sure if the touchwiz launcher allows you to hide or remove those little indicator dots, but you can open up a million options for homescreen launcher settings by installing a 3rd party launcher from the play store like Nova Launcher or Apex Launcher. Currently I'm using Apex and it is great (still rocking the stock experience until CM9 gets a stable release).
3. As for changing icons like the phone, calendar, calculator, etc. This is another thing that can be customized using a launcher like Apex.

1. Have heard others complain of this issue, so I don't believe that there a way to do it. Don't use that feature myself so...
2. Again, I'm not sure, but I think you're stuck with them. You could use a launcher that allows more customization. I like apex.
3. Download an app called "icon changer" and a icon pack or theme with the icons you would like to use. You can then open the application and select the app you want to change the icon of and pick a new icon. It will create a shortcut of the app with the custom icon on your home screen. Great for changing icons on your home screen if you want to remain using TW. If you decide to use an alternate launcher like apex this feature is already integrated and you have the ability to switch the icons within the app drawer as well.

Thanks for the quick replies. Trying to stay away from a custom rom on this phone. There's just nothing I'm really unhappy with that much. There's always something that goes wrong when I load one. Not saying there's ANYTHING wrong with the roms themselves, there's just not that much on this phone I'm not happy with, unlike phones I've had in the past. I'm coming from a Desire.
Thanks for the Icon Changer app also. Changing them on my tablet was a pain in the butt, this was nice and simple. Any way you know the dimensions of the icons though so I can create some of my own?
Hello, I searched but didn't find an answer to this one. So here goes.
I'm not a fan of the TouchWiz dialer app in the standard ICS ROM. I've tried out some dialers from the Play Store and find that I can use them... but once a number is dialed the ancient 2.x-looking dialer reappears for the duration. Any solution?

Is your phone rooted? If it is you could probably flash a .zip for a different dialer.
Hope this helps
Thanks!

Thanks for the response, I haven't rooted yet; I'm not a total newbie when it comes to rooting as I've done it for some previous phones. I haven't taken the leap because I'm wary of losing the ability to upgrade when the official JB ROM arrives (fingers crossed).
That being said.... Perhaps I'll go for it and permanently lose the 2009-looking dialer once and for all!
Thanks again!
Hey
I would re-commend using, dialer one. It's a great surprisingly for a third party app
the dialer and the phone are two seperate things. no matter what dialer you use after dialing it is always going to go back to stock phone. third party apps take the place of contacts.apk but calls are handled by phone.apk. you will have to flash a rom with a themed phone.apk or aosp based to get the change you want.
Good to know. I'm really puzzled by how dated parts of the UI are. When my Note arrived back in August I had to do a double take. From the dark background behind shortcut names on the homescreen to the green and grey dialer I thought Gingerbread was still lurking about somewhere. I use Nova Launcher pro to make most things look like ICS but it looks like I'll have to root and flash to finish the job. For some reason it really me.
Thanks to all for the help.

Hello,
I am fairy new to android scene and I really enjoyed personalizing my jail broken iPhone. I switched to android cause of the ability to personalize it however I am a little confused I am looking for a way to change some text strings. For instance on the iPhone I was able to change the message that appeared when you entered the wrong passcode. Same as the power off message saying "never" instead. I would like to know how to do this as well as change the icons on the phone I due know how to do this on the iPhone but am really lost on android any help would be great sorry that I don't know a lot of the correct terms.
Well I'm not particularly sure how to change the text on the things you described because I believe you would have to change the framework of the ROM...
As for theme... That's easy, you just need to install an alternative launcher as golauncher, nova or apex... These ha e separate theme packs you can download which will theme the icons and give you ability to change them yourself... But the icons packs won't work with stock launcher if that's what you are using
I use go launcher and what I would like to do is make my own compete theme is there software out there that I could use and I would like to learn how to possible write or understand the code but don't know where to start any suggestions would be great thanks again for the reply
