Hello all!
My friend just got ICS on his SGSII and he does not like it at all (I have no clue, why).
He wants to downgrade to Gingerbread or Honeycomb instead. Is that even possible without rooting the phone?
And if I root it, how should I proceed? What is the easiest way? I rooted my SGSII a year back, and I have no recollection on how I did it back then. My phone was Gingerbread / Honeycomb back then, and it took me a while to do.
Any ideas is welcome. Thank you!
Downgrade to GB using ODIN. Read this thread, it contains all required information.
Go to intratech thread and flash xwla4 firmware with odin.

The phone crashes, when trying to flash any of those old firmwares 2.3.5 and 2.3.6 ! :-(
Nevermind - I just flashed it with the Gingerbread files from this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458
Works perfectly now.

Thats all masters.
Do i need to downgrade or there's a way for those things without downgrading.

only the baseband sir?
Do it via KDZ Firmware flasher and research for a tutorial how to flash using it and how to download the old firmware. I can't research for you now because I got things to do

thanks a lot sir..
ill go for downgrading to froyo.
after i downgrade? i will downgrade also the baseband?
Id recommend using LG tools, kdz flasher I here has problems. Than again I've never used it so I can't tell you from experience but I can give you a place to start
Don't use xda's app search function, its useless instead use Google search queries
Go to android development, than to stickies.. the first post is what you need. Its a post by ciaox that night do you justice, also right underneath it is another post with alot of info but I believe its outdated
Also look for sweetnsour's post, I think its under general section stickies..

well, if you still got the warranty then contact lg service centre and tell them to downgrade from Gb to Froyo2.2.2
they may tell you that there is a slight chance of bricking but they will also tell you that not to update after downgrading
And Viola!!
You will get stock froyo on your phone without any hassle, all things working and no chance of bricking your phone by yourself and no baseband problem
Followed it and no problems till yet, currently on Mike's CM7 6.5.8
And to root, just use gingerbreak
2 methods to manually do it.
1. kdz (risky in my view as i briked my phone once with it) (search xda to follow)
2. lgmdp (i feel safe method) ( to flash froyo of your choice follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19006040#post19006040
or
to flash indian froyo v10e 2.2.2 follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1324105)
and once u successfully flashed using any of the above method no need to flash baseband separately, it will be done by the tool while flashing process itself.
if you want to root stock rom 2.3.3 follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1200167

Thanks sirs, Its a big help..Ill try it tomorrow..Then if i bricked my phone. Ill go to LG and let them fix it with pay.
well, i have an GS2 rooted (android 2.3.4) and sim unlocked with Galaxy S Unlocker.
if i upgrade to ICS when its released, do i loose root?
if I loose root, SuperOneClick will still work if my GS2 is ICS or do i need to wait to an update of SUperOneClick (to supor GS2 with ICS) to root my device again?
well, those are my questions.
thanks in advance.

1) Of course you'll lose root if you go back to stock.
2) Ask whomever developed SuperOneClick if it will work with ICS.

Or you can wait for an ICS custom ROM ...
Hi,
I've rooted my S2 with CF-Root 4.1 and I'm using a 2.3.5 SamFirmware ROM.
Can I just update over KIES when ICS comes out? Will the Kernel be replaced and what Files will be erased?

If you have a rooted rom, if I remember well, Kies won't update your firmware... You have to use ODIN...
ok so just to make this 100% clear (i am a complete noob and i always make stupid questions, so flaming is accepted )
I have a Galaxy S2 with just rooted firmware (XWKJ1). I used an insecure version of this firmware to root the phone following the Odin/CF Root guide. Also I am not using any custom made rom like CM for example... If I upgrade my phone through Kies when the ICS update rolls out will I be able to complete the process succesfully?
Also from what I understand if the update procedure is completed succesfully I will lose root and will have to do the whole process all over again... Is there an insecure firmware matching the ICS firmware that will replace my old one?
Thanks in advance for your help...

You may get offered the ICS update via KIES only time will tell .

Unless the ICS firmware you upgrade to is already rooted, then yes. You will lose root.
Just try Resurrectio Remix v9.6 by westcrip. Its the best ics rom right now.

It was never guaranteed to be released worldwide on a single day anyways. Can you imagine the millions of I9100 users all trying to download the official ICS update via Kies at the same time? Their servers would have an aneurysm.
It would surely have been reposted for download though. Also, it was posted in various languages including English speaking Samsung sites.
I know that it is what it is and there's little point now, but I haven't had my ***** about it yet, except to my wife who is fairly confused about why this is such a disappointment for me.
Now I've had my little ***** attack about it not happening and will maintain it to this.
I dont understand why its such a big deal to get the update. Why not just flash a custom rom?

I've been squeamish after many GB ones had serious issues, for example we'd forgotten our camera when my second kid was born by cesarian and I had a sleep of death on the phone - was doing a Nandroid restore of stock 10 minutes prior to entering the operating room. It saved the day.
That said, I flashed a custom ROM right after that last post and it's been really impressive. I haven't yet found an issue with it. Everything seems to be working really well and the battery life might even be a little better than the GB ROM I was using though it's still to early to say.
I get annoyed with all the banners and the immediate back patting when there's a new RoM that hasn't even been tested, but just to answer the question some people might be asking about which one I was impressed with, it was Resurection Remix. It also happens, thogh, to be the first one I flashed that was a Samsung based ROM opposed to AOSP.
It is still annoying though. I suspect Samsung is merely manufacturing their own hype about this, intentionally, and that is irritating.
Hey guys
My S2 was preloaded with ICS 4.0.3 when i bought it. However i have noticed problem with many of the HD games, they run for sometime and crash...
My question is, how can i downgrade to gingerbead 2.3.6.?
I did find my region 2.3.6 firmware on sammobile..so if i follow the flashing steps from odin..the downgrade will be done successfully?
Also how safe is the process?
Also i would like to know how to take a back up my phone in the current state? So if something goes wrong or if i am not satisified with the downgrade, i can go back to ICS 4 i.e. the same condition my phone was when i unboxed it?
Some suggestions and answers would be really appreciated
Thanks
You cant backup your current rom without rooting it. here is a good vid on how to root a galaxy s2 http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s2-i9100-icsandroid-4-0/
You will need to back up your phone using clockwork recovery
You can however download the latest rom using Check Fus you can find it here http://fus.nanzen.se/ This should be safe. this video here will show you how to use odin to flash a stock kernel http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-unroot/how-to-unrootunbrick-your-galaxy-s2-i9100-ics/
you can always go back to ics if you do not like the GB stock rom
Hope this helps

Yea flashing through Odin is safe. Just don't mess with the repartition box or pit files unless you are 100% sure what you're doing. And if you're stock you can backup your device through Kies.

A friend of mine recently updated her Galaxy S2 from the stock GB 2.3.6 to AT&T's ICS update. According to her it's ruined the phone and she wants to go back. I'm assuming it's as simple as flashing a stock GB 2.3.6 ROM with Odin onto the phone but I can't seem to find that ROM anywhere. I flashed the hell out of my old Galaxy and have already flashed my Galaxy S3 a few times, but I've never worked with an S2 before so pardon the noobness

If you wanna go back to stock gingerbread here's the link. Please read the entire post, its very easy to do. I've done it a few times when I've managed to soft-brick my phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313659
Edit: There is a bug in stock ics kernel that seems to mess up the phone. Since you're not rooted double check with a recognized dev or contributor to make sure this will work.
Doing a data wipe or factory reset from within recovery with stock ics kernel can result in a bricked phone as a result of the emmc bug - so avoid doing such as long as the stock ics kernel is on the phone.
First flash back to a gingerbread kernel or a safe ics kernel before doing any wipe or factory reset.

Hello,
has someone have the old stock rom GT-I9100_XEN_I9100CEKI2_I9100XENKH1_I9100XXKI1.rar available and want to share this with me ?
It is the version for the Netherlands.
I'm currently on stock 4.0.4 (no root) but I'm not happy with it and want to go back to GB.
I have searched the net but it seems that the stock Roms for GS2 are not available anymore, they seem to be removed.
Please share this file with me !
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Oh and if possible also both kernels stock and rooted ?
Kernel_I9100CEKI2.tar and CF-Root-SGS2_CE_XEN_KI2-v4.2-CWM4.tar

Just use Google search next time!
1. Rom
2. Original kernel
3. CF-root
BTW, see the sentence beneath (in my signature).
Also be sure that you do not brick your phone since you're on Android version 4.0.4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756242
Thanx ! I did use google but the sites I got back reported only that the file had been removed.
Thank you for the link.
Another question, I am not going to wipe anything as the phone isn't rooted and has no CWM recovery on it. Will it still be dangerous to flash this old rom back using Odin ?
One of the reasons I want to go back is because of the bug which could brick the phone.
Thanx for the heads up
