[Q] Pic Backups - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

How and what do you guys use to backup your pictures you take with your phone? I was sync'ing them up to dropbox using the titanium media sync, just not sure that is the "best" way to go about it.
Currently running ICS Alpha 2 leak...

I am on an unlimited data plan so I use Dropbox's automated Camera Upload feature to upload pictures I take on my phone. Can be slow sometimes, but it gets the job done. It's nice to have the pictures ready and waiting for me on my computer when I get home.

I'm using Dropbox as well.

I just move any camera pics I want to save to DCIM folder on external sd.

I installed dropbox for a lot of space free offer they had and it started sharing my pictures with my tablet. Nice pleasant surprise.

Picture saving nonlinear?

I would like to save my pictures on my sd card to an online source automatically. Is there any kind of appear or something that allows me to do that. My pics got wiped from my sd and I would like to prevent that from happening again without having to load them on my external hardrive every night.

I know that google has a couple of services for this, Google + is one of them and Picasa Photo Uploader is another. Google + will automatically upload your photos to your profile, if you set it. Picasa Photo Uploader is an app you can download.
I've used this before:

You gotta have a photobucket account, but it can be set to automatically upload images as they appear on the card. Be careful of data and battery life, though.
I use SweetHome to upload my photos to my PC when it's connected to my home Wifi.

Thanks everyone. I just started using Google+ so far I really like it.

New Dropbox Beta = 5GB of space

Anyone using Dropbox? Anyone want to upgrade from their 2GB cap to a 5GB cap while using the newest additions?
All details can be found here.
Checking it out now, I was about to install Dropbox on all the computers at my job for the extra space.
Sugarsync has been nothing but frustration lately. Thanks a bunch!

Never mind need to upload photo/videos to get the space, just uploaded all those roms for nothing. Lol
It seems that if you upload quite a bit of data, then delete it, the new storage cap remains. So Im trying to upload as much as I can to get Dropbox to match it, then remove whatever I dont need and still keep the space.
Some people are reporting the storage isn't getting added yet but the limit is gone.
I myself haven't got anything either and I followed the steps, guess its too much at once for them to handle.
I've just uploaded 2 avi files via the desktop client, I am now at 112% space?????

They said desktop app and Android app do double duty on that limit.

Seeing as how I got an extra 48GB (totaling 51.62GB) by logging into dropbox on an ICS device, don't really need the extra 5gb, but will do so to remove the file size limit .

51gb!
So...Referral, .Edu, Beta, ICS, what else is there?
Read the thread, folks. It says only automatic photo and video uploads count. So sitting there uploading and deleting roms isn't doing you any good.
How can I see if the upload size limit has been removed?
Why wouldn't they put the "Camera Uploads" folder under the "Photos" folder? You can't do gallery view unless they're in the Photos folder...
Oh well, I prefer using Picasa on my computer to rename and organize my pics before I upload them anywhere.

Oh ok, I need to grab myself an edu email to get that double referral MB.
That 48gb would be awesome if it was permanent.
I just copied over 5GB of pictures. It says its going to take 32 hours to upload :-/
It has already told me that its upgraded my Dropbox account to 2.5GB.

The 'Photos' (and 'Public') folders are less private than anything outside these folders. Source
From this another Dropbox help page, it says that "The Photos folder automatically creates online galleries. Any image files you move or copy to your Photos folder are automatically included in an online gallery anyone can view from the Dropbox website.". It means that you don't have to create a public view link, it's automatically created. So anyone who gets your leaked photo gallery link can enjoy them and you can't control that.
For folders outside Public and Photos, everything is private and you can selectively makes things public/private at your discretion.
I think it's good that they are not mixing up the privacy settings of Photos and Camera Uploads.

I'm sitting in my desk recording videos then uploading it since I don't have 5gb of pictures/videos.
So glad my work has some nice upload speeds, taking advantage of it as much as I can.

Cool, thanks for that explanation!
Thanks red for finding this. I found this trick to upload a huge amount of files. In the camera turn the video recording to 1080p. Then press the record button and leave your phone upside down for some time. After 10 minutes the video took up 1 gb.

You can also double your referrals (500 MB each!) with an edu email. And yes, it's retroactive
Anyone else getting a force close if you go into the app, hit "Uploads" at the top, then click "Photos or videos" at the bottom? It still uploads stuff fine so I can get the extra space. I had this FC on stock 2.3.4 and I'm getting it on SHOstock now as well.

[Q] What are you doing to prep?

I am coming from an OG EVE and I am uploading some apps with data that I would like to bring over to google drive.
Besides that what are you doing?
Are you just going to take your sd card out of the current phone and stick it in the new one? Good idea or bad?
I was thinking of just copying over my music/pictures and starting the sd card from scratch so I don't bring over all that garbage I have accumulated.
Thoughts on best practice here?
Good post. I too am a little new to transfer from old android phone to new android phone.
How exactly are people transferring phone numbers on the phone (not gmail) to the LTEvo? Are you just uploading everything to google and transferring?
As far as apps, I am putting faith in appbrain to just redownload all the apps?
This might be a noob question, but I will ask anyway. Once i set up my gmail account on the new phone? Will old evo not work w/ the same email? I read somewhere that you can only use one email with one phone.
I don't use google for contacts, so i exported everything to a VCF file on the sd card.
Most apps let you back up their settings, so I used that function. Not overly concerned about email. Once app is installed (k9 mail), and settings are imported, it's just a matter of refreshing to resync with the imap servers.
I do look forward to having root so I can run titaniumbackup to restore other apps/settings.
Id make sure all ur contacts r connected to Google or backed up somewhere so u don't end up re entering them all. As for my SD card. I'm backing it up then reformating it in the LTE. Gonna wait until I'm done setting it all up then restore some app data and pics/music. That's why I love Android a new phone and all u really need to do is log into Google and u have all ur stuff again

Prep? Funny. It's a phone, not a house. Buy phone, swap sdcard, turn power on. Sync.

I just got myself a new 64 GB microsd card for the new toy. Starting on a clean slate.
Must haves:
64 gb micro sd
Hd media link
Otterbox def
Car dock
I have all but the otter and the car dock but soon will have
I use Google Drive for all my docs, Dropbox for all my pictures and videos, and Play Music for all my music....I literally have nothing important stored on my OG Evo right now......the only thing that's gonna suck is I have to start from scratch on all my games. Though I have Titanium Backup that backs up my my entire phone data to my Box account so whenever I get a chance to root, I'll get all my game data back.... I really do not want to start all over on angry birds lol

[Q] Dropbox camera upload from a different folder?

Hello!
I know Dropbox for Android (and iOS for that matter) will automatically upload pictures you take with the camera. But I want to have it also upload pictures that I save, either from a text message or from a website. Those pictures are saved to the "Downloads" folder, which I don't think Dropbox is watching for pictures. If I move pictures to the "DCIM/Camera" folder, SOMETIMES pictures will upload, but not always.
So is there a way to force Dropbox to auto-upload the pictures I save? I want that to happen so the pictures will be renamed to the date it was taken, which is why simply sharing them to Dropbox won't do.
Thanks!
Bump..also looking for an answer
Don't think so hmm. Maybe try to force a media rescan via one of those apps on the play store?
Alternatively use an app like Dropsync to do one way uploads or 2 way syncing to any folder to Dropbox.

Dropbox does watch the Downloads folder. Actually, it monitors every folder on the USB storage partition of your phone. For example, screenshots I take on my phone get uploaded to my Dropbox as part of the "camera upload" function of the official Dropbox app, even though I don't get those pictures by using the phone's camera nor are they stored in the DCIM folder.
To see this, take a screenshot of any screen on your phone (for my wife's HTC Vivid it's Power + Volume Up, for my SGS2 Skyrocket it's Power + Home). It'll get saved to /storage/Pictures/Screenshots (your exact path name may be different depending on how your phone designates the USB storage partition of your phone - note this is note the SD card, but the accessible storage on your phone when you mount it as a USB drive when plugging it into your computer). You should eventually see that those screenshots are uploaded to the same folder on your Dropbox as all the photos you take with your phone's camera.
If you're not seeing that, I'm not sure what the issue would be. I'd recommend going to system settings > applications > dropbox > force stop > clear cache > clear data > uninstall, then reinstall Dropbox and set up camera upload again, take a few photos with the camera to make sure it works, then retaking some screenshots to make sure that that works as well.
by default, it upload to "Camera Uploads" dropbox, can I change the default folder to other folder in dropbox? sub folder?
Thanks

No feasible solution
I don't think dropbox watch ALL folders. I noticed pictures for Whatsapp / eye-fi / any other apps which stores pictures in their own folder do not get backed up. Please advise if anyone have solution as to enable users as to which folders they want to upload to dropbox from their Android.
I use these two apps to sync additional folders on my phone to Dropbox's Camera Uploads. It may not be the exact solution you're looking for, but it works for me.
DropSync & CloudPipes
Try pasting photos in camera folder and rename similar to photo taken with camera. That may work

Photo Backup + Restore?

Hey guys,
I want to perform a complete DFG fix on my S3 (running SlimBean), so I want to free up as much memory as I possibly can. I have 3.7GB worth of photos and videos - is there a proper way to perform a backup and restore while keeping the date organization?
As a test I transferred my S3's DCIM folder to my Nexus 7's. The result was that the gallery was disorganized, where some of the videos where clumped together in the front, and images taken last year appearing before recent pictures.
So is there a way to restore the gallery while keeping the date organization of the photos and videos?
Thanks for the help!
You should have backed up with Dropbox... but any ways... you can still just copy paste to your computer. it will just change the modify date in your picture cata. Created date will stay untouched...
I have a backup on my PC + Google+. That's not the problem. I am worried that when I restore the images, I will loose the picture's data organization as it is now, sort of by when I took the pictures.
I guess there is no proper way.

Shouldn't this information be stored in the picture itself, talking about date when taken etc.?

Just copy and paste all the data you need to back up on your computer and copy them back afterwards.

I would assume so, but as I said in my original post, when I had transferred all the images on my Nexus 7, as a test, the gallery wasn't organized correctly, where some of the videos where clumped together in the front, along with some old pictures, followed then by the new pictures.
I am assuming I will face the same issue when I restore my pictures on the S3, and that's something I want to avoid.
