Wifi tether and ics - Motorola Droid RAZR

How can I get the wifi tether to work on ics? I'm running the vzw leak and had no problems with wifi tether on stock gb. Us it possible yet?

Did you try the mobile hotspot hack using SQL?
I was never able to get the google or barnacle tether to work on GB worth a crap so that's what I resorted to on both my phone and my wife's phone.

I tried to find one all day, none of them worked.

Well I may have to go back to GB just for that. I tether my Tablet when I use it.

Well i heard that if you put the wifi tether app on galaxy nexus settings it should work

I've been using the SQLite editor hack to use the standard mobile hot spot and it works great.

My hacked mobile Hotspot came over from gb fwiw. Didn't have to re-hack.

I had the same issue and tried to go the SQlite way (free) version. I later found that you had to purchase it. So I fastbooted back to .173 and then did the SQlite hack and then installed the leak and it carried over.

After installing the leak (.211) the proper way I had to reapply the SQLite technique to reacquire wifi tethering.

Wouldn't mind flashing....

I wouldn't mind flashing a custom ROM on my X2 if I could keep the factory 3G Hotspot that comes stock on the phone. Does anyone know if Eclipse or any of the other ROMs left this app intact or has it been deemed bloatware and removed?
Eclipse 1.3 has it
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Liberty has it too.
Most ROMs do
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Do you mean you are trying to use the stock app because you pay for the service? Or are you just looking for any tether app? All of the ROM's do in fact have the capability built in to do it without paying.

And without being detected by Verizon?
Just use barnacle from the market it only uses ad-hoc so some devices wont be able to detect the hot spot and it is free

I would love to be able to use Barnacle but it don't seem to play nice with what I need. I have tried several times to get it to work. I am using the stock app with the TBH trick and it works.

Yes but you need to follow this guide :

It works. I had it working on the stock GB X2 ROM but when I flashed Eclipse I had to repeat the work around in the TBH thread above.

Wifi Tether

Using stock rom 2.3.6, is it possible to tether with apps like barancle or wifi tether? Doesn't seem to work for me, the phone is rooted.
If the answer is no, is there a Rom available with the wifi hotspot avail? I miss it from my Tbolt.
thanks for replies.
i got my razr the DAY the stupid update came out. i HATE BLOATWARE!!!
OH but yeaa...
im not even rooted BECAUSE I CANT!
i use pdanet, then click the wifi tether, its guna have you download somthin...
starts wuth like Fox or some****.
it works for me, and like i said IM NOT ROOTED DAMN YOU VERIZON!
(never had this with any sprint phone)
I got it working by deleting the stock Hotspot app and installing Android WiFi Tethering from here: code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether.
You need to be rooted to delete the Hotspot app. I deleted using Titanium Backup.

Will this monitor my data connection and send my accounts and passwords and browsing history to these "FoxFi Software" people? Also, will my carrier somehow know I'm using this?
What is the name of the APK for the hotspot app?

Enable wifi tether on leaked ICS [CDMA]

This is not my work but I found a guide that seems easy to follow and it worked for me. After installing the leaked ICS I could not get any wifi tether app to work
Rumor has it that a simple SQlite edit enables the factory built in mobile hotspot. Again I take no credit for this work, I just found a guide
I'm sure there are others and I will edit this post from my computer when I get home to get credit where its due
linky
Hope this helps

I also can confirm this works. You can actually use the official mobile hotspot app after you edit the entitlement check.

Sometimes, I can totally understand the under-appreciation that the devs must feel from time to time...
80+ views, no one hit thanks.. no replies.. etc..
oh well.. at least we found a way.. I saw this over on droidrzr earlier and figured I'd share so the folks that frequent this forum can be in the loop as well..

This was the first thing I did. Couldn't get any app too work, except FoxFi on Bluetooth DUN. I figured what the heck, and I can verify working. So, even though I did this before you posted, thanks for the others that will be needing this. Some people do appreciate, they just don't know how to show it? Maybe? IDK?

Wow could the instructions be anymore vague? Yes, yes they could. Not "settings" then "Storage" SETTINGS STORAGE!!!! THE ACTUAL APK ON YOUR PHONE.. He could have been specific.. zzz
Works like a champ though! However who in their right mind would burn through their over priced data plans for this?
Wifi Tether is working for me. Actually maybe it's not. It sseems to automatically turn wifi off.
Screw verizon.
The original with video was probably better...

It is supposed to turn wifi off.... It is the router or hotspot or however you see it.
So nobody has gotten the wifi tether app from gb to work?
So this allows you to use the Mobile Hotspot app for free? Or do you mean it just allows you to use it on this phone? Might also want to clarify that before people start getting charged extra tethering charges.
You can use googles wireless tether beta 11 to wireless tether. You have to change the device profile to samsung galaxy nexus lte cdma then change the setup method to netd (master) then you will be able to tether without changing the entitlement value
Snowrider's explanation works perfectly. Thanks!

Does not work on Leaked ICS. Error code 14.
anybody able to get there tether to work??
Easiest method is to use the stock hotspot via the sqlite modifications. I've used wifi tether a million times, but if I can use the stock for free.... Why not?

Mine was working. I recently changed to a different ROM.. the SQlite hack works flawlessly so you can use the stock wifi tether app.
If you go the sqlite way you have to be using version 1.5 or you get that error 14 code. Also the beta 11 version won't work for the nook because its not an lte device. But it does work for leaked ics because that's what I'm running

Does doing the SQL method cause the built in tether to be free just like the wifi tether app?

anyone else having any luck with the wifi tether beta 11? it worked perfectly on gb, cant seem to get it to work... did as what was told, changed to galaxy nexus, and changed method to netd.... no dice though...
Here is a quote from the comments of the article link in the OP :
"You can use aSQLite manager and aShell instead of SQLlite for free in the market (bit of a noob so took me a while to understand any of this). Path is data/data/com.motorola.android.providers.settings to get to it"
I followed this, found the check, changed to 0, will reboot for safety, check and report back. Just trying to save some people some money where possible.
EDIT: worked in open mode, not with WPA2

ICS & Foxfi working?

I was wondering if anyone that has 4.0 can let me know if the app works. There's problems trying to use it on 2.3 on the Rezound at the moment.
I'll be getting the Nexus 7 and I'd like to use my phones 4G over WiFi when I'm out and about.

I'm not sure if FoxFi works, but there is a modified Wifi-Tether that works.
A lot of ICS ROMs have it preinstalled.
If not, it's somewhere around these forums.
(It requires root, though.)

Does FoxFi have any advantage over WiFi Tether or vice versa? I know one is rooted vs non-rooted but is that the only difference? I assume there has to be advantages with rooted tether.

I think rooted tether gives u more options like access control.
However, foxfi also has bluetooth tether, although i think that only works on some devices.

The tether fix turns on Verizon provisioning check, so you can use the built in mobile hotspot app.
