Bought a used Streak today.
The battery cover is a little flakey. Sometimes the phone will boot, sometimes not. Sometimes it starts to and then hangs with the Dell splash screen.
Are there any battery cover work-arounds I can employ until a replacement cover arrives?'
edit: n/m I googled.

This damn battery switch is kicking my ass.
Can't get it to stay down properly.

If you're able....
If you're able and willing to do it there are ROMs available which have that disabled...for example, I'm using the simplestreak rom and don't suffer from that inconvenience

Hello all,
I have been flashing a number of ROMs for a while now, and I decided to settle for EWJET ZeamEx V010ex temporarily as it is beautifully well rounded Stable aand has all the features working i.e. Camera, GPS...etc without FCs.
So I had been using EWJET for 2 weeks, when one day I picked it up to check my Whatsapp messages. It was really slow and laggy, which happens sometimes no biggie. Then it got slowwer and sllooowwer and super sluggish. (slow frame rate and you can see the vertical lines as the screen changes) And finally froze...Completely. Waited for a bit with no response then removed batt. Put batt back in, Nothing. plugged in, nothing. I was sad... very very sad as I have got so attached to this thing. With all these excellent Devs and their ROMs in development .
Anywhooo, now a few days later. (I had the battery out ever since it died) I put it back in and tried for the heck of it and guess what it Vibrated! the way it does when you turn it on. It was stuck in a boot loop though. Hit it with PC companion. back to 2.1 stock. flashed a couple of ROMS. Trip's froyo and Iris. was running fine!
BUT it happened a few times already where it dies like it did before with no response what so ever. I have to take out the batt for a lil over a few mins (hard reset). then it responds. Sometimes it goes all the way and loads fine and other it's just stuck in a boot loop and I have to either wipe everything and stock it. Mind you I'm not doing anything crazy on the phone. either texting, browsing..etc
Could it be the undervolting for the EWJET ROM? doesn't make sense but maybe. I did stock it a few times already though.
Sorry for the long post wanted to include as much info as could be helpful.
Any ideas? Any one?
I'm really not ready to give up this phone!
Thanks in advance!
just flash back to stock and exchange it for a new one with your warrenty

Yeah I want to do that but wont be able to for at least a couple of months as I am away from home. So was hoping I can remedy the problem temporarily. Maybe someone had similar issues.
As for getting the phone wet, Negative. It happened out of no where. I started working again n been using it perfectly. Today, it worked the whole day fine then at night I received a call. after I was done I hit end and it Froze there. power button would turn the screen on and off but nothing else. took out the batt and its been dead ever since. I'll check n see if any of my friends might have gotten it wet while using it though.
Anyone have similar issues?
Sounds like a faulty phone to me, when my phone turns itself off and doesn't want to turn on i take the battery out/in and this always solves the problem ._.
you could have a proximity sensor issue. if you get a chance to charge your battery, I recommend you take off your screen protector, sounds weird, but it might help

Thanks for the tip. I'm actually not using a screen protector. Never liked the feel of them.
It's dead now and not even responding to the charger.
Oh well, seems like I'll have to wait a couple of months to see if i can get it fixed/replaced. Dang guess I'm gonna pull my W850i from the darkness temporarily. Hahaha
Thanks for the help all.
it has a stock screen protector, look REALLY close at the corner! :-D use a razor or knife to take it off, TRUST me, you wont scratch it, it is COMPLETELY scratch resistant!

try wall charger, usb charger on computer, wall usb converter, and if all else fails, download flashtools, and in the'drivers' folder, there is 'Gordons Gate drivers' install that on your computer and the usb should work.

Nope, Still no response from phone.
I don't know about the screen protector though. I see it. but I don't feel comfortable removing it. And it seems like I wouldn't be able to put it back.
My brother's vibrant is turning off any time its dropped. It even turns off from a one to two inch test drop onto a table. Does anyone have a clue why? It turns back on after so battery is in contact after the fall. Stock back and battery.

Get a piece of cigarette pack and slide it along the edge of the battery to make the battery sit in snug. Works on all the phones with loose battery problems.

The battery might be lose, There was a thread once about people shaking their phone and it turning off. The general consensus was loose battery and a folded gum wrapper between the case and battery was the fix. That thread prompted me to make a video of me shaking my phone, LOL.
That's what I thought. Thanks for the tips. Worked like a charm.

When I slightly bump my Streak, it reboots. I am quessing that the problem is a loose battery or a loose battery door. To troubleshoot, I would like to run Streak with battery door off. Is there an electrical connection or a mechanical switch that can be by-passed? I know that my problem can be a dozen different things, but I have to start somewhere.
Note: After further searching I finally found a solution to my problem. I removed the battery door and stuck a 2mm thickness of cardboard on top of the battery before closing door.
there are custom roms that have the connection bypassed already, dsc 0.63b being one of them, or you can bypass t using a wire on the two connection points
Or you can look here:

If u take off the cover in the "hole" (on the bottom 2nd in from the left) where one of the hooks on the cover goes into you'll see a little silver lever...that's the sensor that tells the streak the battery cover is on...I've taken my streak apart because I was having the same problem...noticed it was most likely not that and realized it was the ribbon cable of the screen has doublesided tape that becomes non sticky so I replaced them all with a vhb take and its been perfect since.

I think Simplestreak rom also bypass the battery cover problem. If someone can create a flashable patch, this would be way better than dissassembling the phone. Anyone?
Anyone experience this? I noticed when my phone is plugged in and i play a game for 5 mins the top half of my phone gets to 47-48 degrees... Almost too hot to hold. When I leave it alone it stays about 10 degrees cooler. Anyone know what might be causing this?
Sent from my SGH-I717R using XDA
Not sure what might be causing it but mine does the same. It's probably normal.
There are several threads discussing this. Please search first.

The current to your phone and the addition of you doing something causes the processor to get hot. That's it.
Are you using the flip case from Samsung?

I didnt do anything to the phone.. This was a replacement from my original one that was randomly rebooting and freezing.. Im just worried i might damage the internals.. Anyways i called rogers for another replacement. They are sending it as soon as i return my original

Thanks for bringing this up, it's quite relevant to my interests.
Mine also gets hot. I recently upgraded my folks' phones to ATT Galaxy S II's (non Skyrocket) and they both get very hot when surfing on battery power via data. My battery monitor widget said 103'F at one point.
My Note also feels a little laggy (not hugely so) and has crashed a couple of times. The battery life is atrocious (coming from an iPhone 4)... I'm considering exchanging it at ATT as I'm still well within my 30 days. Rooting and freezing all the usual suspect apps hasn't helped.

Whats weird is that my original one didnt get hot but was laggy and freezing up. This ones the exact opposite.. Fast as hell and hot. Now i did a couple tests and the only difference was that the white on my current phone had a slight yellowish tint on the original. Battery life i get 12-17 hours on both.

On a sidenote just took my phone out of my pocket and while writing the last post phone got to 37 degrees and this is while it was off the charger... Anyways once Rogers recieves my original note they will send me a replacement to my replacement lol.. Anyone know if i get three lemons would I be entitled to a new unit? I know carriers used to do that.

Depending on the task mine got hot anywhere between 5 or 10 mins

My first note would her extremely hot between 117f and 130f while idle on a charger from the top half up. Used a thermal temp sensor from my liquid cooling to measure temp. According to a friend of mine manager at an att, said the heat problem is the biggest for return and that from what he's found out talking a Sammy rep that the cpu and memory in some units through shipping and handling have been loosened from their respective heat transfer system.
So basically manufacture defect and if it gets hot replace it. It'll hurt the internals.

feel bad for the ones having all the problems.....its hard for me to get my phone to even reach 40C and thats while watching movies and pausing and making calls. the playing a game. i have to do ALOT to get it that hot.
i have noticed the pocket thing though, if i keep it in my jacket pocket it seem to get hotter faster even though i am not doing anything on it at all. but it goes right back down again after i pull it out for about 3 min.

I've been having this problem for the longest and just been dealing with it but its extremely annoying. Phone will randomly reboot whenever so I can't really get a logcat .. I always need to do a battery pull otherwise it stays on the red M. I've tried SBF'n back to stock and unlocking and re-rooting. It happens on EVERY ROM I try. And only started to happen after I unlocked boot loader. I even tried freezing modem fast dormancy. Idk what else to try. Any suggestions?!

Reflash full sbf and unlock with this sbf - http://d-h.st/BkJ
is using the stock 198_7 fine?
I fixed my random reboots by wedging a thickly (~0.5mm thickness?) folded piece of paper along the side of the battery closest the pins. It's a manufacturing defect in the connector pins versus battery pin contacts where even the slightest of impacts somehow causes one of the four pins to lose contact with the battery contacts, causing a seemingly random reboot/shutdown condition, or a frozen M screen, OR a battery logo with a question mark. Removing the cover and trying to shift the battery side-to-side replicated my problem. I could feel some wiggle in the battery.
I still have reboots with mild impacts (relax, my Photon is in an Otterbox case) on the back or front of the phone. Side impacts no longer cause me anymore reboots.
May not be your issue at all, but my phone was behaving similarly. A slightly loose battery is something I doubt many people look for right away. My phone is root, but bootloader is still locked because I have to use Wimax.

You may have a dud phone. My first photon was all stock and it randomly rebooted for no reason at all. It was mainly after I locked the screen. All of the sudden I would hear the SD card mounting sound. Happened quite often. I took the phone back to radio shack and swapped it out. Have had no problems since. Only reboots are caused by me tweaking and such.
