New HTC EVO 3D, some questions... - HTC EVO 3D

Hello, I've just received my new HTC EVO 3D after a long time with my loved HTC HD2...
Now I'm searching for tips 'n tricks to do on the EVO 3D something similar to what I successful did on the HD2. But before, I have some questions:
- I've seen a lot of ROMs also for the EVO 3D, but all them supports 3D on screen and camera?
- In your experience with custom roms for EVO 3D, what's the best rom without sense?
-What's the requirements to install a custom rom?
Many thanks in advance
Sorry for my bad english.

If the ROM is based on official stock firmware then yes, it will fully support 3D. Leedroid is IMO the best out there.

Uhm I realized that my phone has already installed "something" inside.. it's most likely an used phone:
*** UNLOCKED ***
SHOOTER_U PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.49.0018
eMMC-boot
Oct 3 2011, 15:03:01
This is what I see pressing power button+volume down at phone turned off.
What I should do?
There aren't yet some ICS preview-based ROMs with working 3D due to the HTC announce of an official ICS update for the EVO 3D?

That's not a new phone, somebody has HTCDev unlocked it. However this is actually quite good as you can now install a custom recovery and then either:
Install a custom ROM and kernel image manually or
S-Off the device after a hboot downgrade and install roms easier.
As you are a GSM EVO 3D user you have access to a couple very good ICS roms however none at the moment support the camera or Bluetooth (or playback of 3D media for that matter). As you concluded its because HTC are yet to release official ICS for devs to port the libraries and drivers from.

1. all sense 3.0 roms will support 3d gane/pic
2. the best rom w/a sebse is for me romeos3d
3. that you are s-off and a custom recovery. like 4ext (tha best)
check the sticky threads, i guess, you're italian so u have gsm version http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1230

Understood a thanks+ given for your patience.
I'll wait for official ICS due to the BT+3D support, sad to see that there's not a completely functional MIUI rom for the EVO 3D... I've used many fantastic MIUI based ROMs on the HD2...
I've read about the dangerous HBOOT live CD downgrade procedure that allow EVO 3D users to downgrade from HBOOT 1.50 to 1.40 and switching the flash security to S-OFF (a thing I've never heard on HD2)... what this means in terms of advantages for me? What changes between a phone with S-OFF and another with S-ON?
And I read that if I choose to unlock the flash security (S-OFF), I should before return to an HTCDev lock status... how can I perform this?

I think there is a very good MIUI ROM available but it only supports camera if you have a 5+2 megapixel version instead of the older 5+5 megapixel version.
An HTCDev unlock has already been performed on your phone so that part isn't an issue, have to admit I've never hears of a live cd downgrade for GSM versions.

Isn't this one for both GSM+CDMA Evo 3D versions?
EDIT: I checked, the live CD is in a thread in the CDMA EVO 3D area so no chances to S-OFF my GSM one?

To check what camera you have in your phone, try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1482664
Scroll down a bit to where it says "Camera checking".
If you have S-ON you have to either use an app made by a recognized developer Joeykrim to flash kernels, or you have to use fastboot command (while connected by a USB cable to a computer) in ADB. You cannot use the normal way of flashing kernels in recovery, as that will leave you with an endless bootlooping phone. (And, i dont think S-ON can flash a new splash screen? Someone confirm please)
If you are S-OFF, you can basicly do whatever you want, whatever way you want. No need for USB cables, apps and such. Just boot into recovery and flash what you want.

Very nice, I need the S-OFF lol
I should search a procedure for S-OFF my GSM EVO 3D.
The "Camera Checking" app isn't anymore on the play store, so I can't download it.
No problem, I'll test directly the ROM on my phone to check it after done the S-OFF.
Any suggestion to S-OFF an EVO 3D GSM?
@e3d & @Atomix87: seems that you have a GSM one with S-OFF, which procedure you used?

I'm almost certain the live cd is only for CDMA. To achieve S-Off with my EVO 3D I downgraded my hboot via this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535987 make sure you completely and thoroughly read the entire thread through before attempting any of it.

I'm reading it, but i think some points are useless for me.. my phone has already the bootloader unlocked "HTC way" and root access on stock rom.
So, please confirm this, I need only to follow the third procedure (third post) on thread you linked me: "Downgrading your HBOOT".
Where I can find the CID code?

Flash maniac ( XDA member ) has an downgrade guide so that you will have an hboot version that you can s-off.

s-off hboot 1.5. has it been done yet?

like the title says... is it done yet? been looking and looking for solutions to that question. i'm already rooted using the htc method. but still looking for a way to get s-off.
check the 3D general section, there are a few threads on it with varying info.
short answer though - no
There has been some effort made towards this front, with little success. Whether you think it's a smoke screen, or not, evil devnull, and his team, attempted this around thanksgiving, and couldn't come up with anything. Not sure if revolutionary is quietly working on something, or if they are waiting for the ICS update, or if they are just done with bootloader unlocking, period (I'm not bashing those guys, but they have been eerily quiet since the bootloader changed to 1.5).
The unlocked, non carrier branded GSM guys have found a way to revert back to an eariler bootloader, using the HTC unlock method, and then performing a similar method to what the thunderbolt/evo shift 4g guys did to allow the Hboot to accept a RUU with an earlier hboot.
I think this doesn't get much attention, because the HTC unlock method allows you can do almost everything you could if you had S-OFF. The only thing missing is being able to flash radios.
At this point it wouldn't make sense for devs to come up with a solution now. Not with ICS around the corner
is there a temp root for hboot 1.5?

The only reason why i ask is because, ##data# or what ever it is, i found my midi number using an app in market place, but when i tried to adjust my volume. it doesnt want to work. i was wondering if me having s-on and rooted is affecting it in any way.
Ics is ice cream sandwich new android OS hopefully coming to the EVO 3d early 2012.

New to this phone but not new to android customization

Hi all..I just bought this phone and still in it's box..I had many android phones before and used to root and and flash costume roms regualrily..all I need is a go ahead on how to root and install CWM recovery and the best possible rom in ur opinion cause quite frankly I am lost because of all the threads and tutorials including the version number and all the warnings I read so I am trying to avoid any risk losing this phone since I live in Iraq and it's bad maintainance here and no one knows how to sort things when comes to repair..thanks in advance and really appreciate any help provided.. so happy to get this phone
Usr htcdev to unlock it, flash cwm, then either go s-off and flash your Rom and kernel or stay s-on and flash you ROM, kernel, then fastboot flash the boot.img. Tutorials are in main sections depending on whether you have CDMA or GSM. I personally recommend leedroid or mikrunny.

I can't add the links as I'm on phone but www.htcdev.com has the unlock instructions. As for the rest they are in the forums, try the stickies first. With regards to problems the only ones I would say are the battery life is not particularly stellar on any Rom really, and ics roms don't have functioning camera, but aside from that it is one hell of a good phone with the 3d as a nice bonus .

If you are xdma there is no need to void your warranty with HTC Dec. Look in the cdma Dev section under the stickies and just soff the bad boy. Pretty easy even if you have never run Linux before.

I am lost!!!!alot of talking about frimware and Shooter RUU and stuff...it's complex guys
Shooter, ruu, versions.. your lost?
Hey I would just like to share in part of your confusion and let you know, take it a step at a time! And always READ READ READ , everyone here is very helpful and if you have a question chances are its been answered the only thing is finding the answer hence, "read read read." As for "Shooter" I know HTC phones use code names and Shooter represents our phones the Htc EVO 3d , Supersonic represents Htc EVO 4G, so on and so forth. RUU's I know are the "STOCK" files the completely revert your phone to stock and stand for either "Rom update utility" or something of that nature I am still unsure but Have used before to update my radios through hboot as I am on HBoot 1.5 and wanted the new 2.17 base. As the versions and radios/hboot, software all of the above , on your phone go menu/settings/about phone and read about your versions of software, baseband represents your radio and software info will be something like 2.17.651.5 "build number" is exactly stated in that menu of the phone. Good luck !

Thankful..but still!
I can't thank u enough..u and the whole HTC forum family are really helpful and great..so I am going to read about what I'm gonna do..and then ask if I am right or not..first thing I registered in HTCdev site to unlock bootloader but there are minimum choices of countries..so I chose US and hence they asked me to choose my phone but they only give a list of Evo 3D with carriers(Sprint and T-mobile and soon)so I am afraid I may do anything wrong..mine is GSM version and not carrier specific and I live in Iraq..what shoould I do now??

[Q] 3VO ROOT for GSM's

Hello good people of XDA
As of June 29th my EVO 3D is bangin with ICS 4.0.3 and Sense 3.6
Now as much as i like it, i would like to see more ICS and less Sense, as 3.6 brings minor changes and i feel like its a futile update that took 6 month for HTC to bring! I was expecting it to talk to me and ask, how my day went! :S
I would like to Root the phone, but there is just so much info about ROOT, MOD's, KERNEL's, H-BOOT, S-OFF and all the necessary things to know a little about before ROOTING, that i just feel confused and lost, and cant seem to find the right info for me :S
So my Q's are:
What's the most up to date ROOTING guide for the EVO 3D?
What's the point of a KERNEL, why is it flashable? Do i even need one when ROOTING?
I would like to Backup my existing "Stock Rom" is Titanium Backup the way to go ?
Is there an Official ICS ROM for the EVO 3D without Sense ? That is not tweaked or edited ? Just vanilla ?
What about the CamMod & MusicMod's for the CDMA devices ? Are there any for the GSM ones as well ? Panorama and all the goodies implemented..
What should i use to flash MOD's or KERNEL's onto the phone ? PC or an APP ?
If i missed something, please be so kind and bring it to my attention!
THX
Ok to root I would use revolutionary to root and s-off if it not hboot 1.5 kernels are for permorfance increase and they are flashable in recovery also there are stock ics roms in the development section and vanilla told as welll to download and also to backup stock Rom I would root and backup in a custom.recovery pm me if u need more help

My HBOOT is on 1.53.0007 "HBOOT-1.53.0007"
Revolutionary has 1.49.0008 as their latest HBOOT for the EVO 3D GSM
What am i to do ?

Question! But you knew that already...

For those who are helpers with only the Sprint or GSM 3D, please ignore this post.
I repeat, this is about the Virgin Mobile Evo V 4G, if you know nothing about it, please don't try to help, you'll waste both of our time.
So let me begin, I'm going to root my Evo V 4G. But I've noticed quite a lot of things that tell you to do things with that tell you to downgrade the S-Off. Wonderful. But to downgrade, they say you should be unrooted, and locked.
So I have a couple of questions. First off, "What is S-Off and HBoot and all that."
Second, is there a point to downgrading the HBoot (because I believe it is a higher version on the V 4G).
And third, should I root it first, or do the HBoot downgrade, or both?
(And yes I understand I'm a noob, but coming from the Motorola Triumph, all you had to do was use Terminal Emulator to root, and then get a custom recovery and you were good.)
Please explain, from one dev to a noob. Thank you very much.
First off I'm no developer, but I've dealt enough w/ HTC phones to know most of what you ask. I could be mistaken a bit but from my understanding here is what you are asking about:
S-Off/S-On is basically a setting that tells the bootloader (HBOOT) if it should verify the stuff it is flashing has been signed by HTC.
HBOOT is the bootloader for HTC phones, it is responsible for booting the ROM or Recovery, it's also used for fastboot commands.
Downgrading your HBOOT may be necessary in order to get true S-OFF
an example would be the Evo 3D HBOOT 1.4 can be S-OFF'd with revolutionary (maintaining your warranty and giving true S-OFF), but 1.5 needs the HTC Dev Unlock method which doesn't give true S-OFF but allows flashing of some unsigned content. In this instance it's better to downgrade your HBOOT and get a real S-OFF.
As for which to do first, if S-OFF can be gotten on your current HBOOT version, I dont see a need to downgrade it at all. If you HAVE TO downgrade I'd do that first, get S-OFF then flash a recovery and rom that has root access already.
Anyone who reads this and sees a mistake, please correct it
For those who are helpers with only the Sprint or GSM 3D, please ignore this post.

Unfortunately there is no method for gaining s-off without having to unlock first. However with this guide that ramjet73 put together you can have your phone s-off with "locked" bootloader by the time you finish performing the wire trick. You will have to have to unlock your phone and gain root first before you perform the wire trick. A lot of people have said that using a paper clip works the best. Well here you go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438
Dont forget to hit the thank you button if I helped you in anyway and don't forget to drop a thank you for ramjet either.
Thanks for the referral jsparta26, but he's got a GSM model and my guide is specifically for Sprint S-ON phones.
If you had the CDMA version you could do the hboot 1.4 downgrade for S-OFF that requires bricking the phone but doesn't need HTC unlock. There was a "quick root" utility posted in the General Forum a few weeks ago that didn't work on the CDMA model with the Sprint ICS build installed but I don't know if it's been tested on the GSM model yet. Post #5 in that thread says it requires HTC unlock, but the OP never confirmed that in that thread or the original version he linked.
Maybe a GSM user knows of a way to get S-OFF on your model without the HTC unlock. Are you aware that the JuopunutBear wire trick resets your bootloader status to "locked" (at least on CDMA) even though you have to do the HTC unlock as a prerequisite? There is no indication on your phone afterwards that you were ever unlocked. Once you are S-OFF you can flash whatever hboot you want.
ramjet73
