Will HTC be officially rolling out Android (4.0) ICS for HTC Explorer?
If not would there be any other way to install it on the device?
Unfortunately, HTC Explorer won't get any ICS update. ICS is a power hungry OS. Although phones like Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Neo V, Neo, Xperia Pro etc are getting the update but the Explorer won't have them.
And as for custom ROM I doubt if anyone would port it. I recently bought one. Although it can be overclocked but I'm not sure if anyone would be porting it. There are a few HTC Explorer users.
Still I hope that some dev do something about it.

Would be nice to see ICS in HTC Explorer. I will keep an eye on this
Nope , if you go on the HTC support website , it has a post that tells you what HTC devices will be updated HTC listed that ICS needs more than 512 RAM ....
What about HTC Desire C, the specs are virtually the same and its running ICS??

well they probably customized ICS much to work on it, but im sure it would lag here and there.
Why not port that ICS to Explorer. so that we(HTC Explorer/pico users) can experience the ICS OS & features..
I see in other threads some developers are putting their great efforts in making this happen.
I hope some day someone will make it..All the best and hats up to developers

The problem with the Explorer is a lack of internal storage. It has 512MB in total I think (across all partitions). The Desire C has 4GB. Much more space for storing the larger OS (ICS takes more space).

Hey guys,
I'm changing my phone in just a month or so. So i'd like to get some opinions on what phone to choose.
So my criterias are:
I want a phone that has tweaking options (i mean not bootloader locked or stuff like that), with either a dual-core processor or a sliding full qwerty keyboard (both would be brilliant, but i'm not sure it's possible to find some right now).
Other than that, i really don't care, nor about the manufacturer nor about the price (keep cool on this one though, if we could stay under 600$ it would be better ^^)
Thanks for your help, and thanks for having been helping me with a phone i love (HTC Desire HD) for more than one year now!
See you in the comments~
Droid 3 ou 4 seems to fit better your wants, but I see lots of users complaining about bad support and slow updates. There is Xperia Pro, wich isn't dual core, but it's great phone and have a lot of tweaks, unlocked bootloader and will get ICS in May or June, maybe a bit earlier. It have a full team of devs working on CM7/9 for it.
FreeXperiaTeam is a great team, who dev CM7/9 for Xperia 2011 devices, and hopefully, as soon as possible, to 2012 line too.

Thanks, i tought about the droid 4. But i think the bootloader is locked on the droid series, ain't they?
The SE XPERIA Pro seems like a good choice, maybe not as powerful as i'd like it though... sorry for being so precise again...

I don't know too much about Droid devices. I am a SE owner and fan, so it may change my minda bit...
But I don't know any other modern QWERTY Android phones. They seems to be a little forgotten by manufacturers.
Oh, there is a Samsung one. I think it's Infuse, Captive, or something like that, I can't remember the name. Try going to gsmarena.com and search for Droid 4, then there should be something like ''related phones''.
Do the same for SE Xperia Pro (wich is a awesome phone. Hadn't the opportunity to play with it more than I wanted, but everything is really nice.).
And then go to Samsung, and look for the first keyboard phone you see, and let me know the name.

why not HTC One V, it has similar but better hardware and ICS 4.0.
most important, it is cheap.

Cyanogen Mod 9?
In answer to your question yes ICS is available for the desire S in the form of Cyanogen Mod 9.
Whilst I know other roms are available such as Ice Cold Sandwich they all appear to be at least loosely based on CM9.
Although it is described as alpha I have installed it on both my desire s as well as a friends and it works without issue on both devices perfectly all of the hardware is now functional with the exception of the FM radio but there are plenty of online radio apps, or you could just use the MP3 player.
The only small issue you may encounter were problems with games such as temple run although this has been fixed in the latest release (09/05/2012)
I have owned the desire s for just under a year now, it is my first android phone but from experience of viewing friends phones it is still one of the superior android devices on the market. Whilst it does not have the dual core processor or huge amounts of ram of the current flagship phones there is a large community behind the device as there is the desire HD and Z. Therefore there are regular roms available for it. On another note in terms of the phones power, I have not found a single app or game my phone cannot run well including full 3d games such as the pocket version of Minecraft.
In terms of battery life after a year of use I can still manage about 2 days with sparing use and a sense based rom or a whole day with heavy use on a sense rom.
With the new CM9 I am managing 2 days of medium to heavy use and 4 days of sparing use. I believe this is due to the lack of the sense ui.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
Hi,
As subject says.
I am having right now white xperia mini pro But i am planning to buy Xperia U. Should I buy???
would u suggest to buy? if not may u would lik to tell my why
I will be really thankful if u help me, i m really confused
The only real differences are the Software and the design.
My mom got an Xperia U and it's really awesome, the only downsides are the camera (bad in darkness) and no MicroSD card slot.
The Xperia U has a very beautiful design and a camera shutter button. The One V is thin and simple but the chin is very ugly and so unneccesary.
On the software you'll have to tell yourself, I personally like the Sony UI and Sony has some great apps, but also a lot of bloatware, I've only had Xperia Phones so I haven't had a TouchWiz or Sense phone, but from what I've seen I think that Sense is really ugly EXCEPT for Sense 4 (I think the One V has Sense 4) which is actually really beautiful and ICS optimized, also the Xperia U won't get ICS for a few months but if that doesn't concern you then I recommend the Xperia U.

I won't recommend xperia U.Personally I don't have it.My friend recently bought it and he regrets it.The main draw backs are no support of Devs(atleast for now).No ICS out of the box.Although sony promised an update we don't know when(correct me if I'm wrong)
So a better choice would be (according to me) Galaxy Nexus. It has got the best dev support. You get "instant" updates. And stock experience is what I like.So add a few bucks get Gnex.Only down side is bit a lag in 3d games but better than Xperia U.And other alternative is keep your xperia mini and get the Nexus 7 tablet if u aren't committed to a phone .
Hope I helped You.Think twice before buying

I was gonna recommend Galaxy Nexus too but it's a little more expensive.
You're right, Xperia U has a small community, but it's still pretty new and Sony Mobile isn't that big in the US, mostly sold in Sweden and Japan. Also Gingerbread SUCKS but if you're patient you can wait for ICS, and this guy just got ICS for his Xperia Mini so he's used to GB.

I think Gnex is not in India i guess, correct if i am wrong.
The phones just launched and the dev support will be there slowly i think.

I already got dell streak with 5inch screen and ipad. so i guess i wont go for gnex7 tab

Well you could always hope for a direct Jelly Bean upgrade, but Sony are so lazy with skinning Jelly Bean so I wouldn't think so.
But Jelly beans on Xperia U .......eehhhhh
wen Ics update decreases the RAM then i think JB will kill it. i mean JB will be requireing alot space.
btw, any1 know eta for ics on U
Hi guys, seems sony is not going to support us and not going to update our phones to the latest Jelly bean android os. Looking around the thread i see the only problem with sony not updating to jb is with the drivers for jelly bean for our phones, i also found out that making the drivers is not a impossible task but a very hard one ( seems X8 has no problem running JB as devstaff said ). I on behalf of all the owners of 2011 xperia devices kindly request all the great developers here in this forum to join togeather to develope drivers for these devices, pls guys help us keep our great phone RAY up-to date.
As far as I know it's NOT an impossible task (because nothing is impossible), but our developers have to deal with reverse engineering and believe me concerning drivers it's a very complicated thing. Too much effort and time put with minimal or no gain at all.
I remember WM 6.5 ROMS for HTC Touch HD whose support was so quickly dropped by HTC and we, simple folk, didn't get the desired 6.5 update. So there were cooks and lot's of 6.5 Blackstone ROMS but, as genius as they were, developers didn't manage to get them work full throttle because, guess what, of them blasted drivers!
So the answer to your question is probably "no"..
am i missing the point of this thread?
there is CyanogenMod 10 jb which supports well most 2011 handsets - CyanogenMod the best you can have on the xperia ray.
i too have an xperia ray and was very unhappy with the original Sony bloat - the phone constantly crashed, rebooted, froze up - you name it, it made no fun at all. after throwing it around out of anger, i put myself together and installed CyanogenMod 9 at first, all previous errors were gone spontaneously. now a month or two ago i started to move to CyanogenMod 10 and guess what, it works great - running android 4.1.2. i'm anxious to install the latest fxp146 which will be online soon.

Xperia X8 support stopped with 2.1, but they have jelly bean, so it's not impossible as you say. If the developers wish they could do it for ray too.

Ya man CM is awesome, but it dosen't contain the awesome picture quality of the sony ics camera, there was a picture preview glitch in CM. I'm saying that it would be great if developers could make the drivers for ray and make a debrand engine of sony jb version it will be fuc**in awesome thats all mate.
Well. Only sony has to do this. No developer is able to build drivers. We can port ones as FXP do. And see what is haappening. You dont ahve a full working and cool JB. SO you will never will. There is no engineer that knows sonys hardware and would like to be part of xda and share. No possible way

Then can you tell me how xperia x8 having only 600mhz processor runs jelly bean so smoothly, with its software support stopped by sony in android 2.1 foryo. There is a way, the devolpoers could do it, i personally think if the FXP,AOKP,PA join hands they could do it

It seems you do not fully understand how drivers are developed. And with x8 devs were just lucky to get hands on something similar which they adapted for this xperia model. Hell, you can have legendary HTC HD2 running Android and WP7 smoothly but you won't find not a single driver created from the ground up by our XDA tech gurus! So I repeat, what you suggest is very complex and most likely impossible.

We need good devs, like Nobodyatall to help us port drivers and more.
Maybe we should start a donation to Naa to help us? Cuz nAa is a superior dev, he made 2.2, 2.3, 4.0, 4.1 for the X8, and the X8 only runs eclair on stock.
Is my idea good? Should we ask nAa for help?
Another idea is to port DesireHD roms because the HW is almost the same, or maybe Xperia J?
Nothing is impossible, we just need good developers thats good at working with drivers.

This thread is about the actual functionality of the New Jelly Bean update for the Desire X
and not whether you have it or not. Thats discussed on other threads.
I have come from Froyo on the Wildfire to the DX with ICS...well i can still do all what i have done in the past, but much better.
What improvements will JB bring to the DX. Can some one explain what we should see.
I have seen some one already explain, but it would be nice to get another point of view.
Some have issues and some dont, it confusing for us noobs:silly:
What is the hype behind it.
The reason why i am concerned is that some guys want to revert back to ICS, and thats not what it should be. JB should be an improvement.
lastly, the few hicups people have with the latest JB, could it be to an app or user related issue.

Same as you I have came from Froyo to Jelly Bean itself first of all the update was great Speed improvements were there (example is scrolling wallpapers in personalize its feels like the HTC One. Second the new software We all know Beats audio got screwed up by the OTA but HTC fixed it with anothe OTA and now bass is back This Update also enables us to test new software and to discover new things with Sense 4+ and also a feel of Jelly Bean, remember not all devices could get an update from their own manufacturers so were lucky enough to get this lol now we just need to deodex the stock JB ROM and custom ROMs would be all over the forum (I could do one now just no time to deodex the JB Stock ROM).
Wow, this is a positive post. Positive info that i expected.

See it this way,
Jelly bean is the LATEST android OS (although 4.2 > 4.1) but still, the CURRENT SUPER PHONE (HTC ONE) which gives Galaxy IV a scare, was also on 4.1.2 and will get 4.2.2 in a few days. So technically, after JB update, we are having one of the most updated devices around for such money.
Think again what happens to similarly priced samsung n sony phones, (believe me, most are stuck at ICS officially forever).
ON-TOPIC:
JB Sense4+ might not be what you expect, BUT the kernel source code, and libs will enable atis112 and others to port FULLY WORKING CM10 ROMS with Project Butter.
We'll soon get kernel 3.4 source which will be a platform for YEARS to come and keep this device alive. believe me.
My cousins with xperia U/sola, galaxy duos, etc will be stuck @ ICS officially.

Although i dont understand your last sentence, but it does sound good any way.
I said yesterday that Jelly bean is not so cool..i was stupid, its f....n awesome. Its faster than ICS, web browser and downaloading too. Right now my download speed is 2,5mb/s. With ICS it was hardly reach 1mb/s. Google Now is really good, i can search the nearest restaurent with my voice and it supports hungarian so its good for those who dont speak english (like me )

I'd like to say something on this thing since Yasir already mentioned it(sorry op kind of off-topic)
the 3.4 kernel is actually very exciting because currently barring HTC jb devices this is present on only the latest nexus devices(4, 10) only even nexus 7 is on 3.1 and Samsung devices(yes even s3) is on 3.0 .Thus we are currently on the latest version (officially not true android on 3.8 but we are one of the top few and latest currently) . Also this proves that HTC put a lot of effort (yeah was a Samsung Guy so I know what I'm talking about) thus according to me we should get 4.2 also(surity of about 83%) the real question will be if we get 5.0 or not.
PS I like the stripped down sense.
Htc One X JB kernel : 3.1
Wow, Desire X has a newer kernel, awesome.
